I've had disabling double vision for a decade due to a neuromuscular issue. I've had the big names in neuro-ophthalmology tell me surgery wouldn't help because of my diagnosis. I had surgery a few years ago at UCLA that failed and they didn't seem to care about that at all. A few opthamologists recommended Dr Wright and he fixed me! I see some reviews here that I can't comprehend. My experience has been great from day one. His staff are fantastic- always kind and always providing me information immediately. Dr Wright is certainly a different kind of human being- maybe even on the spectrum- which could explain some folks being put off by his demeanor. (I found him to be delightful, but I get that not everyone has the same experience.) Or maybe they got him on a bad day? It just doesn't seem possible that he mistreated anyone. My experience was wonderful every time I went to the office and after my surgery. Dr Wright was always kind, funny, and engaged and I could tell he wanted to fix my double vision because he loves helping people. After surgery he called me at home to make sure I was ok. I have never had a surgeon do that. He's definitely different; but in my experience he's different in a wonderful and refreshing way. I've never had a surgeon spend so much time talking to me. (And sadly, I've had many surgeries). But enough about his personality... the bottom line is that HE FIXED ME. If you have a difficult case, you have to see this Dr. He's brilliant and he literally wrote the book on eye muscle surgery. We had a great experience with Dr. Kenneth Wright in Torrance. He was professional, attentive, and explained everything clearly. The office staff were also very nice and welcoming, which made the whole visit smooth and comfortable. It was also very clear that he truly enjoys his work and has a real passion for helping children with their eye conditions, which made me feel even more confident in his care. My daughter's appointment started right on time, which I really appreciated. The office itself was clean and well-maintained. Overall, a very positive experience--I would definitely recommend Dr. Wright and his team. My only suggestion would be to have stickers or give a small trinket at the end of an appointment. Just five days post-surgery and I am so grateful to see without double vision or major headaches for the first time in nearly 25 years! A couple of months ago, I was putting my contacts in when I noticed that one of my eyes had drifted downward and would not come back in line with the other. This was distressing, as you might imagine--suddenly, at 35, I had a lazy eye. It only goes out of whack when I look up in a certain way, but I worried that it would get worse, and my kid's friends would think of his mom as the one with the scary eye. I freaked out and talked to friends and found my way to Dr. Wright, who is like the leading guy for weird eye shit (apparently also known as strabismus). He writes the textbooks for this stuff, and had treated my friend's daughter and done surgery on another friend with adult onset strabismus. I booked a consultation online and went in a couple weeks ago (the first time slot available when I booked, about a month earlier). I was the first patient of the day and everyone in the office was super nice at seven in the morning, including Dr. Wright, who saw me right away. He was chipper and chatty (a lot of his patients are kids, and I'll bet he's amazing with them) and extraordinarily helpful. He asked questions and took me through a few vision tests (at one point, I got my pupils dilated--a strange, minorly sci-fi-feeling experience I'd never had before) and told me what was up. Bottom line: my eyes have always been wonky. I tilt my head slightly in one direction, which is something I've vaguely known for many years, but had always blamed on my garbage posture. Turns out my right eye is higher in my head than my left, and I do various things to correct for that freakish deformity. I was pretty sure the actual drifting eye was new, but Dr. Wright said I've probably had it for a while, and that it might just be getting worse with age. He wrote me a referral for an MRI just in case my brain is to blame, so I have that to look forward to, but he laid my worst fears to rest. He told me that if the drifting gets worse and really bothers me, he can fix it with a simple surgery. It still sucks that my eyes are fucked up, but I feel much better now that I have good information and a game plan should they truly go rogue. My little guy Jack (6) had strabismus surgery today. I was so worried, so many emotions, so much trust placed in things that were completely out of my control. He was a champ. He was brave. He cried coming off anesthesia but was sucking on lolipops after a few hours and playing with the neighbors dog in the afternoon. Kids are so resilient. The next day he could see straight. No more double vision. I am so grateful for Dr. Wright and his entire team. Top notch Eye Doctor-Best of the best when it comes to Strabismus surgery. My daughter had the first surgery done by a mentor of Dr Wright 25 years ago and the results turned out ok but still noticeable. I consulted with Top Opthtomologist in San Francisco and Texas Children's Houston to ask about a touch up surgury to get her eyes straighter. Both said the current result was the best possible and did not want to attempt another surgery. I was referred to Dr Wright from another ophthalmologist and glad we made a consultation. I want to begin my review by stating that I'm writing to share my experience with Dr. Wright, because I didn't see any reviews about him that mirrored my own situation, and it is my hope that someone in the position that I was in can read this and have confidence in the care he gives his patients. I first learned about Dr. Wright from my optometrist after I was diagnosed with adult strabismus. I went to meet with him and had a pleasant, standard first visit with a specialist doctor in 2016 where he recommended surgery. I opted not to have surgery at the time, and I returned to him only in late 2019 when my diagnosis had gotten rapidly worse to the point where surgery was unavoidable for me to maintain a good quality of life. I felt comfortable with Dr. Wright. He is a friendly, yet somewhat intimidating man who commands respect when he enters the room. Visits with him can be brief, but he is able to cover a lot of information in a short amount of time. He understood how terrified I was to have eye surgery, and he assuaged my fears as best he could. He has been performing eye surgery longer than I've been alive (almost 4 decades) and wrote the textbook on it. At some point, you just have to take the leap and trust him to repair your eyes and get the surgery correct. Prior to my surgery, he cautioned me that I *may* need a repeat surgery to truly correct my eyes. Fortunately, he got my strabismus adjustment perfectly correct on the first try and he gave me my life and confidence back. I could drive again, and my eyes appeared as normal as everyone else in the world. I can see how his demeanor might put off a nervous parent of a young child, as some of the reviews below seem to indicate. This guy is the real deal, and you need to trust him to do a world-class job on yours or your child's eyes. The front office staff are great too. Irena and Sharon were both terrific, but my single complaint is with the third-party billing office, which does not have a website to make a payment to. I struggled with adult strasbismus my entire life. I had surgery when I was 5 then it came back as an adult and has gotten more and more difficult for me to hide. It's been very embarrassing and has taken a toll on my life and my confidence. After a lot of research I found Dr. Deitz. He is an incredible doctor and surgeon. I had surgery on both on my eyes this morning and I am completely cured. He is professional, calm, takes his job seriously is very, very smart and really is an expert in strabismus surgery. I have a pretty low threshold for pain so I watched countless videos on YouTube of other adults expierences with strabismus surgery to learn what to expect and no one I saw had a better outcome as far as pain, complications and aligning of the eyes as I am having. The front desk and nurses were very nice and Sharon really took a driver seat on my case making sure I was very well informed and comfortable throughout the entire process and made me feel important and honestly made me like family. The staff and nurses at the surgery center were great and the Anesthesiologist (which I was really scared and very nervous about) was really calming. I experienced no pain or waking up during the surgery. He gives you medicine though your IV that takes away anxiety and makes you sleepy so when he put me under I didn't even notice. Not sure if he made me count or not. It's only day one but I I have some mild soreness and dullness on my eyes and throat. Pain scale 1-10 is about a 2 or 3. The stitches are a bit scratchy, if you get your lashes done it feels like a lash flipped into the eye. My eyes are very red which is to be expected. I had double vision on the car ride home but it's back to normal that I'm home, things are a bit blurry from the eye ointment but it's not too bad. I have no nausea. I'm very overwhelmed and emotional with how happy I am with the result:) I hope this review has been informative. Thank you!!! read more

I was referred to this doctor by my pediatrician. I cannot even understand how this man is a pediatric ophthalmologist. I do not know if he was having a bad day or if this guy is an asshole. I will never ever return to this office. Not even if someone paid me. He has no patience. No bedside manner. Not friendly. I have been taking my children to Dr. Wright for years, so I obviously think he is good at what he does. I was told my daughter needed to patch her eye (she was three years old at the time), and it was a constant battle. She would "peak" out from the patch, and flat out take it off most of the time. It was getting to be a real problem. I took her to Dr Wright, who helped us come up with a solution that worked for us both. She had to wear her glasses all of the time. And then we could skip the patching. It was something that worked. My daughter is now 14. She still wears glasses. I am so grateful we found Dr. Wright. read more

I can't speak to Dr. Wright's surgical acumen but I can say without equivocation that he is the nastiest Doctor it has ever been my displeasure to encounter. And I am a physician. It may well be that this is because I'm an adult (perhaps he does better with pediatric patients) or because, as an older adult, I have Medicare which, he bitterly complained, would not pay him what he deserved should I elect to have surgery with him. Whatever it was, without provocation, the man shouted at me (I informed him that I'd been told I had a condition which he felt I didn't have - which is fine - then proceeded to yell at me for absolutely no apparent reason), was hostile from the moment he walked through the door until he waltzed out having failed to discuss treatment recommendations 10 minutes later. I had to trot after him to ask what he recommended. His behavior so embarrassed the fellow/trainee who was with him (and whom he never introduced) that the poor man felt compelled to quietly apologize to me on my way out of the office. On a positive note, the office staff seem very nice and the optometrist who did the initial evaluation seemed excellent and knowledgable and was very personable. I have never written a review on Yelp - even when disappointed. But I'm afraid this was the worst encounter I have ever had in the 4 years of raising my son with any medical professional who is supposed to be treating children. My pediatrician referred me here. I walked in to Dr Kenneth Wright's political propaganda. Apparently he is a Republican running for Congress. I'm going to a pediatric ophthalmologist - it was weird that there was propaganda (flyers, cards, banners) but I thought it would be fine as we were referred here and I don't care what his politics are if he is a good doctor. Apparently Dr Wright wasn't seeing patients so Luke Dietz saw our son. He said our 4 year old was moving his head too much and he couldn't examine him. I talked to my son and said he needed to hold absolutely still and my son agreed but Luke Dietz who had balled up and thrown away the diagnosis from the machine refused to give him another chance. My son failed his vision test at his pediatrician - his teachers have said he has problems seeing. But this supposed professional wouldn't give my 4 year old an eye exam because he wiggled. He said his eyes were fine. When we asked him about this his tone became combative and rude and he told us we were wasting his time - with our 4 year old now sitting still in the room. He said we could come back in 3 weeks but there is no way I will go back here. I'm going to seek a pediatric ophthalmologist who has patience to diagnose a child. read more

He allowed us to wait 2 hours while he finally spent 5 minutes with us and barely remembered our pertinent information. He did NOT correct our situation and his initial surgery cost us a lot of money. We will not be back to further correct our situation. I found truth in all the negative reviews posted here. I don't trust him or his referrals, (I was injured with his referral for a retinal detachment and then he denied knowing those doctors). I found him evasive with my questions: he gave me non-answers, which furthered my confusion and anxiety about the surgery. He has no bedside manner, no patience, no kindness, no authenticity. I took my child to Dr. Wright upon a referral from our pediatrician because of some possible issues with my child's vision. Dr. Wright was: kind, professional, thorough and engaging (both with my child and my wife and me). His is what I hoped for in a doctor. He did not exhibit one single negative trait mentioned in his bad yelp reviews. Fortunately I did not read his yelp reviews before we went to our office visit. I saw the bad reviews after I decided to check on his credentials because I was so impressed with him and his office. Do not believe the bad yelp reviews!!! This man is the sort of doctor you want taking care of your child. Rely on your pediatrician's referral and his credentials not bad yelp reviews. Loved him. We were referred from our Local ophthalmologist. We drove two hours out to see him. His office staff was super nice and they booked us in appointment fairly quickly. Once we are at the office we are taking right back into the room. My son has amylopia (sp?) and we were worried he was going to go blind. Before Dr. Wright created his foundation, he paid for underprivileged children to have their eye surgery because he would never turn away a child because the parents had no insurance or couldn't afford to pay for their child's surgery. His sister was born with an eye condition that caused her to be teased. Right then, when he was a child, he vowed to become an ophthalmologist so that other children would not be teased. As an adult, my own ophthalmologist referred me to Dr. Wright for correction of my strabismus and double vision. He corrected my condition and is an amazing doctor. As a social worker, I referred multiple children to him for correction of their crossed eyes. He accepts MediCal for underprivileged children. Dr. Wright always spent an appropriate amount of time with me and always answered my questions. He has also responded to my e-mails. He is internationally renowned and always has doctors from other countries, as well as the U.S., doing fellowships in his office. He has written books on strabismus and is highly respected for his knowledge and skill. His office is very welcoming and there are many wonderful toys in the waiting room for children. read more

Poorly ran office. Office manager needs to take a customer service course, she either just does not want to answer her phone or just yells without provocation. She does not want to correct anything or do anything for patients or customers. Office does not know how to bill insurance, does not want to correct its mistakes even if it is done wrong. Billing office told me that this is how they are instructed to bill even if insurance tells them otherwise. Office does not care if they get pay because they just collect from patients. Unless you are prepared just pay cash for entire visit even for the doctor who is network; stay away from this office! I am glad we did not schedule surgery with this office! read more

Dr.Wright is AMAZING! I brought my 2 year old in to see him for a second opinion this summer. Her previous doctor had her patching SIX HOURS a day and wanted her to have surgery for her Intermittent Exotropia. My gut feeling was that she was controlling the condition pretty well and that having surgery this soon would be 'jumping the gun.' Dr.Wright did a full exam and agreed that although he pretty much came to the same diagnosis as the previous doctor, he agreed with me. He strenghtened her prescription for her glasses (she has astigmatism) told me to patch her for TWO hours a day (what a relief!) and to bring her back in a month and a half. (The other doctor had us coming in once a month by the way...which was adding up!$) A month and a half later she did better on her eye exam and Dr.Wright said she would not require surgery until she was at least 4 years old, if ever! He said that sometimes all it takes is strengthening the glasses~something that simple that her other doctor never even thought of! It is my opinion that Dr.Wright is always trying to find new ways to treat his patients instead of just going through the motions. We don't have to go back for SIX months! Trust me...he is NOT trying to get your money! Quite the opposite, actually! PLEASE do not listen to the negative comments...I almost did and let me tell you~I am so happy that I went ahead and took my daughter in to see him! He saved us from going down the path of multiple surgeries on a toddler! He listens to me and is so sweet with my little girl! I will be forever grateful that this man came into our lives! He's good, he's dang good. This man is the leader in the field of strabismus. He is the most caring, delicate surgeon for eye muscles you will meet. By far the absolute worst experience I have ever had with any physician in my life and certainly since we have had a family... I was shocked at this guys lack of decency and respect, I actually don't even have the words to describe how terrible it went tbh. Our primary recommended him I guess cuz at some point he had his "hay day" and was a big rockstar with pediatric opthomalogy but wow... his diagnosis of our child flip flopped and mean time I invested so much time and energy as did our child in his glasses to correct an apparent huge prob with his one eye...my son, 12, was getting burnt out in the process and a bit uncompliant so I asked "the doctor" in our appointment to help my son understand how important it is for him to be on board...and while mostly he was just taking cell phone calls (he is running for republican congressman position, and is a VERY busy man) he responded to my plea by saying the polar opposite, and doing a 180 of his original diagnosis and just saying "oh he can just get laser when he is 18. And his vision isn't as bad as I thought." And when I called him on this, in front of his mortified stafff person who got emotional and began to break down and cry a bit as I was leaving, he said "just telling the facts...thank you" and left the room.... like he truly did not give AF.... this guy needs to retire. He is exactly the kind of old white cruddy dying breed of a man that we need to not let anywhere near congress/medicine/children and just really people in general. I find it utterly hilarious that he is treating his patients like crap while running for Congress where...I guess he is gonna turn it around and become.... congressmanlike? Lol... sounds familiar. Kenneth wright for congress! Ha! I plan to request a refund for all of our visits and I wish I could get back my time/gas money and also just the air I had to breathe with this guy. I'm 34yo and went to see Dr. Wright for myself! He is completely amazing. Yes he is abrupt, but he is the best. A week after surgery I am feeling great and most importantly seeing great! I will take the top rated surgeon and a little gruffness over a mediocre surgeon with a warm and fuzzy beside manner any day. His office staff is professional and friendly, and the office manager is extremely competent. I highly recommend Dr. Kenneth Wright for Strabismus surgery. He's absolutely the very BEST surgeon in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas. My teen daughter had been suffering for the past 10 months with terrible complications that were a result of a prior Strabismus surgery that was botched up. As a result of the poor outcome, she had no peripheral vision in that eye and her binocular, 3D vision was also lost. We realized, when her grades started falling, that she was seeing double and everything was blurry. We didn't know where to turn. We interviewed numerous specialists for 2nd and 3rd opinions who examined her and told us that they were unsure that another operation would solve the problem. We asked everyone we know in the medical community if they had any suggestions. Finally, after months of looking, we heard about Dr. Wright. I wish that we would have known about him in the first place. We met with him 2 weeks ago and he assured us that he could undo the damage caused by the prior surgeon who operated on my daughter last November. We had no doubt about his ability once we spoke with him and he examined my daughter. He wrote text books that other surgeons use to learn about Strabismus surgical techniques. We found him to be patient and kind and KNOWLEDGEABLE. We decided to go ahead and have him operate on my daughter. She had the surgery 3 days ago and it was a success. She actually woke up from the general anesthesia asking for Sprinkles Cupcakes! What a difference this has been in comparison with her awful experience last November with another surgeon. Her eye is now 100% straight and aligned with her other eye that didn't need surgery. He's the Wright surgeon (pardon the pun) who is able to work miracles. This review is solely about the staff, specifically the office manager. When I called to make an appointment with doctor Wright, I explained that he was out of network and I asked how much the visit was. The lady on the phone said I would be charged $80 some dollars. I went to see the doctor, paid $88 for the visit and a few months later I got a bill for $206. When i called the billing department, they made an inquiry and told me that I had to contact the office directly. When I called the office, I was transferred to the office manager, who was rude, and told me that "her office" would have never said that (she basically called me a liar) and said that the only discount she could give me was for me to pay an extra $91. I said that her answer was unacceptable since the only reason I went to see him was because it would only be $80 some dollars, and that I wanted to speak to the doctor himself, to which she replied "he doesn't handle finances" and when I mentioned I could sue (I'm an attorney), she said that I can do whatever I wanted. She was rude, condescending, and even called me a liar. I will be filing a lawsuit. I think the doctor should have people working there, especially his office manager, who are at least cordial. I was his patient myself and he performed surgery on me 15 years ago. This completely changed my view of doctor Wright. I will never recommend anyone to go see him again. She defended her staff, without even consulting anyone about this. read more
