We watched the head rooster chase around the others in the pen. Inside the small farm store, they had seasonal local vegetables and eggs. The eggs were dated to indicate that they were laid that day, and they are $5.50 a dozen or $10.50 for two dozen. Can't get any fresher than that! Their website indicated that they sell chicken twice a year, although there was no indication inside the store regarding that. Most items are marked, but there were several variety of tomatoes that were not specifically priced. I wanted some tomatoes but I didn't get any because I didn't know the price. It is a self service honor system, with a cash box. Make a stop here if you are in the area!

This year, I ordered my Thanksgiving Turkey from them. The turkey was not cheap, and sure I could have bought a 99c/pound turkey at Costco, but what's in that turkey? I really wanted to serve something I knew would not be full of hormones. Let me tell you, 20 people at my table agreed without a doubt that it was the best tasting turkey they have ever had. Even the shape of the turkey was different. It walked around happily all summer long. There was no oversized breast weighting it down. Lots of tasty dark meat. The turkey was butchered and cleaned very nicely I would say. The ease of ordering and pick up was unparalleled. I chatted with the owner, who is very sweat and cares so much about what she puts out on the farm. Thank you Milk House Farm! Your first year raising turkeys was a huge success!!

In its prime, Sterling Farm had the sweetest Silver & Gold Corn around. Close enough to walk there from home, we would get there in late morning just after he had harvested the crop that morning. $5 a dozen ears of the crispest, sweetest niblets I ever tasted. 8 minutes in boiling water for a delicious eye rolling delicacy that one was never enough of. Never needed melted butter or salt shaker. If fact, didn't really need boiling, as it was perfect right after stripping off the protective husk. One of those things that represented the best Bucks County had to offer, and right over the ridge from home. The farm is still there. Wish that little market was, too.

Their distribution channels are still rather meager, but Organon the health food store on Route 413, Wrightstown, PA, has a selection in their back room frozen foods department. I picked up the Vegetarian Vietnamese Pho and Roasted Butternut Squash to sample a couple of flavors I normally love. Each plastic package was 12 ounces, enough for one meal. Stovetop or microwave for a few minutes and recycle the sleeve container. I slurped the pho today after shoveling the heavy fresh wet white precip that fell from early this morning. While it lacked the rich spicy lemongrass base of long time pot simmered stock found in Pho 75 and other good VN restaurants, and the thick nest of noodles and fresh pinched Thai basil leaves, it was pretty good for what it was - healthy nearly instant soup with only wholesome ingredients. A squirt of Sriracha for an extra kick and it was bowl rim to lips; bottoms up! Who had time for a spoon? BowlFace! I'll be back here after trying the Butternut Squash, but wanted to review the Pho while it was still warming my stomach. My favorite soups are the Thai Butternut and the Vietnamese Vegetable Pho. The Thai Butternut warms you up on a cold day with the ginger. The Pho is full of mushrooms and herbs. I wish they were available all year around. The good thing about the packaging is that it freezes well! So I recommend stocking up on your seasonal favorites. Besides soup, they offer dips and macaroni and cheese. And most recently they have added salad dressing. So far I have only tried the Pickle Sriracha Dip but I have the Buffalo Cauliflower Dip in my fridge. The Pickle Dip was amazing, I can't wait to grab some more next time I'm at Organnons.
