Pearl River Mart is…read morebasically a curated treasure chest of Asian-inspired trinkets, home goods, and "I didn't know I needed this" objects all in one place. You'll find the classics: chopsticks, ceramics, Lucky Cat statues, loose leaf teas alongside nostalgic snacks, fans, patterned paper, clothes/ qi paos, purses, and other beautifully designed everyday items. Everything is just so well curated, this is one of the best places to find a gift for someone when you don't know what you're looking for. Some of my favorite things to pick up here: Tiger Balm, lanterns, fans, incense sticks, tea sets, slippers. It's also still family owned and has been in operation for 55 years now (since 1971!). They also have a small location in Chelsea market but the SoHo location has a significantly larger footprint.

Nice place just to browse Chinese decors, knick knacks, clothes, snacks and condiments. I bought some nice pens and a beautiful silk scarf. Prices are reasonable. I happen to chance on their little art exhibit at the back. The Red Envelop show for Lunar New Year. Very interesting. Over all, i like this place, feels like it instantly transports me to China with out leaving NYc.

I have never visited this store in person. I discovered it on Instagram when I fell through a…read morerabbit hole. The aesthetic of the shop and the product offering (great fifty items, a lot of local products, fun greeting cards, plants!) is what drew me to follow them. Having a "Visit Ridgewood Day" and and shop and Stay Forever was on my to-do list this spring, but now we're all grounded. I was so happy to see that the owners took a creative way to drum up some business during a very uncertain time but selling all types of care packages. I decided to buy a surprise box for my friend, and she loved it. It included a candle and a gorgeous spring green journal. I ended up buying three more boxes for my friends' children; I cannot wait to see the pics of their loot from Stay Forever. I will definitely be visiting this local women-owned business when things get better.

However, I had a really frustrating experience recently regarding their return policy. A high-end item was placed in a bucket on the floor, where the price was not visible and the price sign of a neighboring item was visible instead of that particular item. Because the store was crowded, and they don't print receipts, I didn't catch the massive price jump at the register until after I paid. When I immediately went back inside to return the item and explain the misleading signage setup, I was told they only offer store credit or gift cards- No refunds. For an independent local boutique, a completely inflexible 'No refund' policy for an honest, immediate mistake leaves a really bad taste in your mouth. If you shop here, just be sure to double-check the price of absolutely everything at the register before you hand over your payment, because once they have your money, you are stuck with it. UPDATE: The owner publicly responded with a smooth, passive-aggressive spin claiming they are 'totally flexible' and that returns are always allowed. However, she then privately messaged me a completely different story, admitting: 'While we do have a no refund policy... we do issue refunds for same day returns.'So, my original review was entirely accurate. The owner lied publicly to save face while admitting the truth in my DMs. She also condescendingly noted that the 'great thing about shopping small' is that the owners are 'one short email away.' But who should have to track down an owner's email inbox just to get basic, standard customer service? A customer shouldn't have to do extra labor to bypass an untrained staff member. The owner privately admitted she left two completely brand-new employees working totally solo during a hectic weekend shift. Leaving untrained staff alone to run a busy store isn't 'flexibility'--it's a massive management failure that directly results in misleading pricing and stressed-out customers and employees. While she privately apologized, the fact remains that their system is broken. It is not convenient for me to travel back to Ridgewood to fix a store error. I am keeping the item, but the review stays up as a historical record of terrible management.
