I had some very simple work for Arthur which took him a week to do, which is extremely odd for some shining. I received one item done correctly of 5. my rope chain jewelry broken, excess glue from a replaced stone and a ring not shined thoroughly at all. In addition he cracked the opal that fell out when he put it back in and "didn't charge me" . Asked him to properly redo and he said 4 days!! Wtf I then texted the morning I wanted to come pick up to confirm and showed up to no one (2nd time) no answer, no text back. 4 people came and left to a closed shop @ 5pm I'm now waiting for my stuff 30 min and he's still not here. SHOP HOURS 10-7pm totally false ALWAYS CALL he's never there before noon and leaves whenever. read more

The person who attended to my needs was Arthur, who has built reputation for giving impeccable service to customers. Initially I was told that the bracelet due to its design flaws can be difficult to adjust, and on rare occasions can be damaged. But with due diligence, he effortlessly adjusted it without issues and did it all--free of charge. I guess I came in on a good day, but he deserves more than 5 stars. Unprofessional, manipulative liar. Went to local jeweler to have my one-of-a-kind engagement ring resized. He broke the main turquoise stone while tightening the prongs. He was agreeable to covering the fee to exchange the irreplaceable stone. While I was frantically crying, he promised me and my fiancé he would contact the makers (KING AND CURATED NY) and pay for three turquoise stones (one to replace the original, and two to make into matching earrings) as well as turn the original stone into a necklace. He also proceeded to tell me as a nurse I should worry about the bigger things in life. For example his wife had a bad surgical experience so I should not worry about the little things. So on top of breaking my ring he tried to make me feel badly about my being upset and stated this would have happened to anyone/would eventually happen. He paid for two stones as three was too many for K and C to part with. While discussing the process extensively with K and C they stated they could make the necklace for me. Arthur, said he would not cover this additional cost. When asked if he did not want pay the invoice for the new necklace and instead do it himself, like originally agreed upon, he said he would not cover this in full and would turn my original ring into a necklace but make me responsible for the charges. He also stated that he would not be responsible for any potential further damage it incurred. He also proceeded to deny everything he offered previously (even contradicted himself in text) and said he had done more than his share already. In person he was understanding, apologetic, and accommodating but here we are and it was just a farce. I would be more understanding if he had initially not offered the extra necklace/coverage. He casually stated he would just put it on his "Amex." He was clearly just trying to calm me in the moment and may have been fearful of legal action which we will look into as well. Do Not Use Him. Get everything in writing. Beware of shoddy, sketchy business. read more

I came here to have my ring sized and couldn't be more pleased. I found this place via Yelp by way of local web search, and entrusted them to re-size my engagement ring due to their glowing reviews. Boy, was that 100% the correct thing to do! When I first arrived, I was concerned it was a seedy pawn shop a bunch of hipsters decided was cool. (It's also worth mentioning I popped in without an appointment right around closing, so I was half expecting to be asked to come back at literally any other time that wasn't then...) However, I was greeted warmly and professionally by the gentleman working there. He furnished a rough appraisal of the ring, gave me relevant info about the stones, tested the gold, let me take the time to size my finger, and gave me an accurate quote/time frame for the sizing & repair. Within a couple days I got a call it was ready, and had a repaired, beautifully fit ring for $60. I have been living in this neighborhood since 2004 and chose this place for convenience mostly, and because I prefer to support local businesses. As a chef, I tend to have a healthy, skeptical opinion about Yelp, but also recognize it as a helpful tool when searching for places and services. Grand Street Jewelers is not where I'll go if I need a gemologist to issue a formal appraisal for insurance purposes, but I am certainly sending my future husband there to figure out what ring size he is. And it will be the first place we stop to look at wedding bands. Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with the courteous service and flawless repair. I'll be fine if life doesn't bless me with a pile of broken jewelry, but am thankful I now know exactly where to go. Waited a while to write my review as it was for a necklace repair and wanted to make sure it would hold up. Its now been a year and its still around my neck (wear daily). Backing up a year, I went in with a broken clasp on an 18k gold chain. Arthur didn't have a spare around, but instead of turning me away, he found a similar necklace that was for sale and removed the clasp and placed it on mine. I had a wonderful experience at this store a few months ago when I came in to get my engagement ring sized. The jeweler (it was a while ago, can't remember his name!) looked at my ring, told me a bit about the process, and set the price at $45. My ring has a half-eternity diamond band, so is a really good price. When I returned to pick up the ring, it looked perfect but I was concerned it was still a bit big, even though it was made to my exact specifications. I was advised to wear the ring for a couple of days and let the jeweler know it still felt big, and if so, he would have it resized again with no additional charge. I deeply appreciated that offer!
