The other kids would come up to me during pick up time and tell me how he's been "bad all day." He was placed in a class room where I was told "five minutes of reading or dancing at the carpet" was age appropriate for circle time. Then he moved up to a classroom where he'd be expected to sometimes sit at the table with no toys or activities for 15-20mins while teachers put away cots. Of course he's going to struggle and not control himself as well as the 4-4.5 year olds. He's a fresh three year old coming from a room with no established routine.

This is also the only place that I trust my child to go during the pandemic. they already cleaned and sanitized more than any place I've ever seen. Now that's even amplified. Not only does the whole staff love my little boy, and he loves them... Not only have they helped him grow socially and emotionally... Not only does he love going to school everyday... Not only is it's a collaborative team where teachers are actually valued, respected, and listened to... But. I will never forget the night my mother-in-law passed suddenly. Because of the team's responsiveness, I never worried about if I would be able to get ahold of him during a constantly changing situation. It's not only that. I actually felt comfort knowing that I could reach out to them at any point, get a response, and that response would be to fully support my child and my family in any way possible. Our child attended Gardner for four years, preschool through first grade. We loved this school for…read morea long time and still think highly of many teachers, families and kids. Unfortunately, we completely lost confidence in its leadership. First grade was a disaster. An inexperienced teacher was put in charge with inadequate oversight. Parents raised concerns about classroom management, kids not having enough time to eat, cleanliness, bullying, an angry and intimidating environment, physical handling/restraint of students and academics. There wasn't even a clearly established curriculum until parents began demanding answers about what our kids were being taught and how progress was being measured. Our child went from loving school to having sleep problems, anxiety and major behavioral changes. At one point our child was hiding behind a classroom door and under desks crying during an activity involving sewing and hot irons because they were afraid of being poked or burned. We raised serious concerns directly with Head of School Courtney Tomlinson and told her in writing that the problems were affecting our child at home and were "increasing intensity quickly." Other parents were raising concerns too. It took parents organizing, demanding answers, discussing withholding tuition and pulling our kids before the teacher was finally placed on leave and removed. What happened afterward destroyed our remaining confidence. Getting straight answers was difficult. Communications were long on words and short on information. Parents asked for an open community discussion that never happened, while the Board publicly backed Courtney. Less than half of the students are returning next year. Families leave for different reasons, but that level of turnover speaks volumes. Gardner has wonderful teachers and families. They aren't why we left. We told the Board we would not return with Courtney as Head of School and would reconsider if leadership changed. If you're considering Gardner, talk privately to current AND former parents. We wish we had.

After his class they gave him ribbons that said he was ready for the next class and one for completing his 1st swim class. He was so thrilled! They have so much to offer. Swimming, gymnastics is, preschool, huge indoor climbing gym for rainy days and holiday themed events. They have easy sign ups online as well. This place is AWESOME!
