If you have anxiety or don't know what to expect with acupuncture I don't recommend. This felt like fast food acupuncture. The treatment rooms are open air like cubicles so nearby patients will overhear you. They've apparently added white noise machines but I'm skeptical that it helps. My first appointment was okay, second felt rushed and with less one on one care, which is probably why a needle was left in my ankle, had I not noticed then could have been painful when putting pants on... I mistakenly signed up for membership, and it was still unclear to me what you actually get... and after signing up nothing changed at the front desk except what I should be charged, and I was double charged at next session, didn't feel comfortable going the next month and cancelled. Somehow I've been charged two more times but they would only remove one and I don't have the time to explain why the other month is screwed up and they agreed to not charge me again, so I'll eat the cost. This could be really good, it's too bad there is a lack of attention to detail. The online booking system needs some work too. read more

I had a fantastic experience at WTHN. It was my first experience with acupuncture and I enjoyed it so much that I decided to become a member! My practitioner was Kristen, and she began my session by asking me in detail about the issues I was there to treat--she was extremely kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. The acupuncture treatment itself was wonderful. WTHN has heated tables, memory foam pillows, eye pillows, and lightweight thermal blankets to keep you warm and comfortable after the needles are inserted. You have the choice of listening to relaxing binaural beats starting with a guided meditation or just music on its own during the treatment. I enjoyed every minute of it. The space itself is gorgeous and clean, and the staff is extremely kind, welcoming, and informative. After checking in I was given a brief tour of the space and offered a delicious cup of tea. The lobby shop offers a variety of herbal products to sample, and the beautiful locker/vanity area has products to sample as well, including rose water spray, lotion, and face wipes. Also, for someone who plans to return and can use my HSA to pay for acupuncture, the membership was a no-brainer, as it only requires that you book a treatment at least once per month at a discounted rate of $75 for 6 months (normally $85 per session), and allows you to add LED or cupping at no extra charge (normally $20)--the total savings is $30 per session if you plan to get add-ons. My only suggestion is that it would be nice to be able to view and manage membership/account details and see past and future appointments on the website. I was looking forward to my fourth appointment out of a recommended ten, and I'm SO glad I did not buy a package because of how I was treated tonight. I was scheduled for 5:30 this evening and I emailed them from the train to inform them that I was running 10 minutes behind. The train was running late and out of my control. I've taken the same train previously and made it on time. When I arrived, at 5:38, they had slid someone else into my time slot so they informed me that they could no longer take me unless I waited an additional hour, which I couldn't do. They should not charge me for this session since they replaced me with someone else, but I'll update this review if they try to be that greedy and unethical. Anyway, I told the front desk I had let them know I was running late and that I take the train in from Long Island just for these appointments. They were passive aggressive and did not make any attempt to slide me into the remainder of my slot before my accupuncturist's next client arrived at 5:45. I understand that there are policies in place but when I abide by them to the best of my ability given the circumstances by informing them that I'm running late and then they opt to slide someone into my slot instead of holding it for me, that's really a poor way to treat a client, especially a repeat client. They've lost about $510 of my business by doing this, and I will not be recommending them to friends. I'll be going to my mom's acupuncturist on Long Island who she loves and started seeing after I'd already begun with WTHN. Because I was a accupuncture newbie, I didn't realize that they're supposed to treat both sides of your body in a session according to her acupuncturist. WTHN only would do one side of my body during my three sessions with them and they'd ask me to pick which side I wanted, and their freebie cupping promo was lousy - I've had that done before when I lived elsewhere and WTHN's attempt at it was laughable with barely any suction. In conclusion, I'll go where the acupuncturist actually treats both sides of your body in one session and is also a licensed massage therapist who gives a ten minute massage at the end of the session for less than one of these one-side-of-the-body rip offs they've done to me here. Don't let yourself get ripped off by the palatable pricing they advertise; you're getting half the price because it's half the treatment apparently. Oh and also, at the end of my first session, they'd left two needles in my thighs at the end of my session. When I told them, they said "oh that sometimes happens." I'd given them a free pass on that and the cupping/one sided treatment because I was enjoying coming into the city for accupuncture on Thursday nights and then going out to dinner with friends afterwards, it was a nice little ritual, but tonight was strike three so they've lost my business. read more

I never post reviews but this experience was such a turnoff I had to say something, especially when folks are spending a lot of money for these types of treatments. I booked an appointment with Shari, the owner/founder. The experience felt incredibly rushed. As someone familiar with acupuncture I know that you need to spend a good amount of time understanding each specific patient before you can make a recommendation. While Shari had taken time to read my history and made some notes, there was almost no discussion during the appointment itself. She asked me some quick questions, made a snap diagnosis (after cutting me off), and generally seemed very rushed. What really ticked me off was her condescending tone. On multiple occasions when I asked her a question (what was behind her diagnosis? how does the new treatment work?) she said that she "can't really explain it without using TCM [Traditional Chinese Medicine] terms." Um, you are building an entire business around bringing acupuncture to the mainstream - it's your job to explain it in terms a layperson can understand! The "just trust me" approach doesn't work when you're prescribing pills and sticking needles in me. On top of that, she tried to upsell me several times on the membership program, telling me that I'd need 3-4 sessions a month. Regardless of whether that is true, pushing me to spend additional money with you before you have verified that I'm actually having a good experience makes this feel even more transactional and impersonal, and my trust was all but depleted after that. I love the idea of more accessible acupuncture, but if your business model only works by rushing patients through sessions, then maybe this model isn't meant to work. Maybe consider a rebrand as just an express beauty treatment and don't market yourself as offering a "healing" solution - healing requires a much better patient relationship than what you're currently providing. read more

TL;DR: Gamechanger, highly recommend. I'm a bit late in writing this review, but after seeing a glowing review of WTHN in the NYT a little while back, and, being frustrated by massages, chiropractor visits and experiences with other acupuncturists to relieve my ongoing back issues, I was in a pinch (literally) and so I gave WTHN a shot and they worked me in asap (walk-ins are welcome-yay!). Based on my previous experiences with acupuncture at the price they offer, I figured I'd have to share an open room with several patients and acupuncturists at work, with maybe just a curtain separating me from others (no bueno). I had a private room that felt comfortable, upscale and well-designed. I had Shari (she's actually one of the co-owners) as my acupuncturist. I talked, she patiently listened and then went to work on my back and other issues (mostly sinus-related). I found her to be very empathetic to my needs. I woke up refreshed and relaxed like I'd been asleep for several years, even though it was probably maybe 20-30 minutes. They're priced just right so that you can go for "maintenance" visits, rather than only going there when your body is completely out of whack-I expect this to come in handy during stressful times and when my sinuses go haywire. This was my first ever acupuncture experience. I had heard of it, but never thought to try it until I saw WTHN. It was very close to work for me, so I took the time to walk and schedule my first appointment. Scheduling was very easy. The ladies at the front desk, who checked me in for my appointment--I scheduled for my day off--were so kind and helpful. Caitlin, my healer for my appointment, was incredible. After the appointment, my shoulder muscles (which we identified as a major issue) was much looser. Most importantly I haven't had a headache since my last session which is amazing! BUYER BEWARE. They hire amazing healers (Itorye, Qihui) but the admin/front desk/customer service is the WORST. So bad that as much as I want to come here, their policies made me more stressed and anxious and undid the point of the acupuncture. They have a draconian late policy, even for longtime members, which I was. They start manically calling you at 5 min to appointment time, grilling you about whether you'll be there on the strike of the clock when the appointment starts. Annoying. If you get there five minutes late, not even 6, but 5 minutes precisely, they charge you a penalty fee of $50 (on top of the hundreds of dollars you pay each month as a subscription based member) and won't let you do the appointment!! This is insane and it causes enormous stress leading up the the treatment and after. The exec who enacted this policy is completely out of touch with how NYC works (ie, sh*t happens with public transportation and sometimes you're not exactly on time) and more importantly, out of touch with the alleged point of the business, which is to help clients relax and heal. Why not have a policy where you pay for the full treatment but just have less time? Or just don't charge the penalty, since the monthly membership fee already covers the cost of the treatment. Also, I guarantee that no client cares if you only have 40 min instead of 50 when the alternative is to have no treatment at all and pay a penalty. Why would anyone want to travel all the way to the treatment, be five min late due to traffic/random watch differences...and then be rudely turned away...and charged an arm and a leg, and spoken to condescendingly by a front desk receptionist when there are so many other acupuncture studios to choose from in NYC? The policy is like what banks do - charge a bunch of hidden fees even though you're giving them your money already. Also, I have been kept waiting for 10+ min on many occasions by the healer (due to any number of reasons) or have had a long conversation with the healer and a shorter treatment and I still pay full freight even with a shortened treatment time. I think they have very very poor business and customer service practices here, and by the way, their amazing healers work at other studios in NYC (just google them), so I say find a healer, and then give them your money directly - don't give it to the bank of WTHN and cause your blood pressure to skyrocket and wallet to hemorrhage. I also need to mention that they tried to double charge me my membership fees and not permit me use of my credits for monthly sessions due to their poor record keeping. I had to spend time with the front desk walking them through thru records before they 'discovered' through my prompting that they had been charging me extra. So not only are they disorganized on their own side when it comes to keeping track of membership credits, (which only works to their advantage bc they can make more money this way), but they penalize their paying clients for being five min late. It also takes a full month to cancel, so they bilk you for more fees that way. Sorry, but that is the definition of bad customer service and reads like an old skool gym scammer business. I decided to try acupuncture for some self care as I had been struggling with low mood, burnout and some shoulder pain. Wthn's studio space definitely intrigued me along with their prices. Very affordable for the space and different treatment options. I booked with Gaby and she was great. She asked me a few questions about what brought me in and explained the process. I'm not really afraid of needles but when she placed the first one I didn't even notice she had done so. If that's any indication of what to expect . She placed them on my shoulder, neck, stomach, hands, knee and feet. Once placed they leave you alone for about 25-30 mins to really relax and let the needles do their work. They provide guided or unguided meditation music and heated beds. The experience was amazing and I was actually able to allow myself to relax. Some of the points "jumped" a bit (aka my neck and shoulder where I have most of blockage) but nothing painful. Gaby recommended some of their products for me to checkout when I left and even gave me some samples to try. As an artist I get tension in my neck and shoulders and pain in my hands and wrists. Acupuncture has also been very helpful, but I could never go regularly because it was so expensive. WTHN is amazing because not only is the acupuncture amazing, I can now go regularly thanks to their membership which makes it $75. I go once a month (but would love to go every week!) I've been getting acupuncture for years. I now live outside the city and it's so convenient to pop into WTHN to help with stress, anxiety and my digestive issues. The space is beautifully designed and the headphones with music and meditation during session are so relaxing. The staff is amazing and I always feel cared for. I've seen many of the practitioners (acupuncturists) and feel confident that I can literally see anyone at WTHN and have a great experience. (Allyson and Shari are favorites!) Wow is all I can say --from the way the space is beautifully designed, to the helpful staff and incredibly trained acupuncturists. I received one of their standard treatments which came with a guided meditation on noise cancelling headphones. 45 minutes later (after I slightly drifted to sleep) I felt relaxed and rejuvenated. On the way out I spent a bit of time perusing their expansive retail space. Picked up a selection of their own herbal supplements. I am someone who has never been into alternative remedies or things like that. If I'm having a problem, I'll go to the doctor, have he or she write the prescription, and be done with it. So this was an entirely new thing for me. I have to say, I was blown away by the experience. I was told beforehand about the many applications of acupuncture, and while I don't know how it could clear up your sinuses, I do know it helped tremendously with my tendonitis. This is a condition in which the tissue connecting muscle to bone becomes inflamed (as per google :) ). Usually I am limited in my running pace because I've have this issue in my right leg since high school. Within 24 hours of my treatment I went for a run, and to my surprise, no pain! Having done months of physical therapy, and taking nothing away from the awesome people that are physical therapists, I see acupuncture as a better alternative to physical therapy. But like pt, it requires a consistent follow up to heal and grow stronger. 5 out of 5 for the friendliness, fun experience, and the results! read more
