What a lovely oasis in the desert! Miles and Uta are a husband-and-wife team who run this operation…read moreevery day with their own bare hands. One visit and you'll feel immediate immersion within this uplifting community of pickleballers. There are 21 pickleball courts, a tennis court, and some nice grandstand-style outdoor seating that offers a great view of the action. For open play, one side is 2.5-3.0 and the other is 3.5-4.0. Yesterday morning, the higher-level side had about two courts of advanced-level players. There's even a water and ice machine, plus a misting fan. A portable WC and hand wash station are on-site. There's also a small selection of Selkirk gear, and I was happy to come away with a nice bag along with some merch to remember my visit. There are excellent membership options as well--great value that I would absolutely recommend for anyone in the area. I'll definitely be back once Miles and Uta return from their well-deserved summer break on 10/16/25! I had the pleasure of speaking with Miles quite a bit; he mentioned that February and March tend to be especially busy. All of the folks I played with were incredibly welcoming and friendly, with Miles on hand for much of it. The ever-present sense of camaraderie and positivity makes this place a rare gem in the pickleball landscape.

My husband and I are pretty new to pickleball, and The Hub has been such a great place to start. A…read morefriend brought us for the first time and we were honestly a little nervous walking in, but we ended up having so much fun. The courts are always clean and well kept, which makes a big difference when you're still learning and just trying not to trip over your own feet. I also really like that you can reserve your time. No awkward hovering, no pressure, just show up and play. We noticed they offer coaching too, which we're really excited about. Definitely planning to sign up for some classes and level up our game. If you're new to the sport or just looking for solid courts with a great setup, this is a great spot.

First time playing at The Hub, and it will definitely be our last…read more When we arrived, we let staff know it was our first visit and signed the required paperwork. However, nobody explained how the facility was laid out or how open play was supposed to work. We eventually found the courts for our skill level, but there was nobody there at 8:30am on a Saturday. Thankfully, a friendly couple on another court invited us to play a few games while we waited for more players to arrive. Once people started showing up, we put our paddles up in the queue to join the next game. Both courts were occupied, and when the first group of four finished, we stepped up expecting to rotate in. Instead, they looked annoyed that we wanted to play and acted like they were leaving. We said "no worries" to avoid any conflict, but after standing around with the court empty for five minutes, all four of them casually walked back on and played another game themselves. We let it go and waited for the second court to finish. When that game ended, the same thing happened again--they immediately started another game despite there being four paddles waiting in the queue. At that point, we left to find games elsewhere. When we came back, four paddles were literally leaned against the net to "reserve" the court. We asked if we could join and were told, "We don't really want to split up." I pointed out that this was supposed to be open play, and the response was basically, "Yeah, kind of." That sums up the problem with this place. There were no moderators, no enforcement of open-play rules, and apparently no expectation that players actually rotate in. A handful of regulars were able to hog the courts while everyone else waited around. If this is what The Hub calls open play, then open play doesn't actually exist here. Extremely disappointing experience, poorly managed, and not somewhere we'll ever return.

He walked me through every phase of buying a paddle, and we discussed everything including thickness, weight, material, grit, grip, etc.. After demoing a number of options I bought my paddle and he even wrapped the grip for me and added some protective tape. I was so pleased with his exceptional service and knowledge that I purchased a pair of shoes. I could not be happier with my purchases, and I am grateful to David for his wonderful customer service.

The thing I didn't like was that David kept giving me back the same paddle that HE thought was the one I should purchase... instead of letting me make that decision. Every time I asked to try a different paddle, he would just say oh that one isn't good, or plays just like this other one you tried... this is the one you should get! It's perfect for you. Well I ended up taking his advice, paid $150 for a paddle that I could have purchased from the manufacturer for $120... played with it once, hate it! He talked it up like it was the best and newest technology in paddles... turns out it was two year old technology, probably the last paddle he had in stock and wanted to get rid of it. Won't be going back to this place for any future purchases.

10/10 amazing experience!…read more We've completed a few lessons (intro, novice, doubles) all with Coach Yael and couldn't be more happy with what we're learning, how she teaches and also how good we're getting. She makes the sessions so fun even when you mess up and reminds people it's not that serious. It takes away from the pressure of learning all the rules. She's able to adapt her style to teach people of all ages and physical agilities. She provides the paddles for the first classes and after you take one session, you'll likely want to get your own paddle and she does offer suggestions. I've already recommended a few of my friends to take her courses so we can play in the leagues together. I know there's a bunch of leagues out there but I wouldn't want to play on any others after learning with Coach Yael. In terms of parking, the courts are at Mission Bay resort so leave yourself enough time in case street parking is busy from the beach goers. Also, make sure to wear sunscreen and bring water with you to classes since it can get hot depending on the month and time of day. No complaints other than I'd love more available classes from her and have them be closer to Chula Vista.

She is a wonderful teacher who transmits the love of the game through her teaching and is also fun to be around. That was a year and a half ago and it got me hooked and I've been coming back for more ever since, that includes clinics, leagues, events and open plays. Open play is a good price at $8/hr for 4 hours and lots of folks tend to stay the whole time, fitting in lots of game play on the 8 open courts. Mostly everyone I've encountered has been pickleball-loving, fun-loving people who have really helped elevate my game. Lastly, they recently resurfaced the courts so there are now permanent pickleball lines with a nice "new" feeling. It's at Mission Bay so expect some breezes and parking is mostly on the street and in the small parking lots by the tennis courts. Highly recommend and hope to see you on the courts!
