Quite new restaurant in Viaduct. firstly bit cheaper than other cafe or restaurant in that area. I went there late morning on Saturday for brunch. Not super fancy but reasonable area. Staffs were friendly. We ordered Egg Benedict and Big breakfast. Meal was good and coffee was not bad. Actually I can't complain about food with that price range. Because I know some restaurants around Viaduct are worse and much expensive. That cafe doesn't have nice scenery, so if you want to have something rather than have wine with sea though the window, then probably good choice.

Works burger. Fine except for over cooked (hyper crispy) bacon.

3.5 stars overall, if Yelp allowed (and 4 for the food). My wife purchased a grab one dinner for two (entree and dinner for $49) and I called to make a booking for 6pm Wednesday but they were fully booked until Sunday. So, 6:30pm Sunday we made the booking and although less than half full it looked like there were plenty of other grab one customers. I am not sure if they would have been fully booked on the Wednesday because it generally feels quiet, but you never know, and will give the benefit of the doubt here. Service was not so great but not shocking. There was just the one waiter who was a little busy and we found ourselves waiting a little. My wife ordered the ribs but they had run out of the ribs. It's a little disappointing. Because it's early evening I think they simply did not have them, for whatever reason. The did not advise us of that and I also don't remember being advised of the pasta of the day. Food was not so quick to come out. Food was generally good, except... I ordered a burger and fries, and there was no sauce for the fries - I am not sure if it's my job to go and find it or ask for it, but usually there is tomato sauce and a good restaurant would make sure it was easily available, and in my opinion it should be on the plate - not a big deal. What is a bigger deal is the bacon on my burger - some of that was cooked to be so dark and crispy it hurt my teeth to crunch through it. Because burgers are assembled, the chef must have known it was like that when they assembled the burger. Not very good. Because we had a pre-paid voucher, all we had to do was pay for one drink we had extra, but surprisingly when my wife was presented with the eftpos terminal it had $102 on the display. Two final things, we were seated towards the back, and the bass of the music is all that we could hear back there. At the front the music sounds ok, but at the back it's just the very deep bass sound ONLY. And the final thing - our table was constructed of wooden boards on top, and there is a 2mm gap between those planks and inbetween you can see little tiny bits of food and who knows what else. I don't know if that is their look but I just think when you accumulate crumbs and sauce and other things which fall into those cracks, over time it will look worse and possibly not smell nice. I would give 3.5 stars if Yelp allowed, and probably a 4 for the food, because overall it's not too bad. But with standard pricing set on the higher end, I expect a little better. One or two things not perfect is ok, but the details add up, with service and speed being important, so that even with a voucher I would rather not return and visit the fish and chip shop in Wynyard instead, or one of the restaurants that gets the sun. I'd just rather try somewhere else. Grab one was a great chance for this place to get some exposure but I feel like they are not doing enough to make the place a memorable part of the Wynyard destination like the other restaurants in the area.

Been here for lunch a few times, menus has changed, mainly pub food now. Good seating, average food and long waiting time. Make sure you come before 12 for lunch if you are ordering from their menu and not their cabinet food. Otherwise prepare to wait for at least half and hour! Good coffee by one of the staff...but not the same quality by the other staffs...

Was here yesterday for brunch with work colleagues. Unfortunately they dont have a lot of veg / vegan options. Ended up having an almond / chocolate milkshake but the service was good. My colleagues seemed to enjoy their meaty meals however. Oh and they gave us a discount as we were from a local business. Way to go !

As an American living in Auckland, I come to miss some good old-fashioned homecooking from time to time. Johnny Barr's always fits the bill! The gourmet mac & cheese menu was originally what brought me through the door, but the super friendly staff, delicious craft cider and tasty food keeps me coming back every time. The Chicken & Waffles is the most satisfying thing ever. The chicken pieces are juicy on the inside yet crunchy on the outside and breaded to perfection, and waffles have just the right amount of maple syrup. If you haven't had it before, you are missing out on life! You must give it a try. Thank me later. ;) The assortment of tasty mac & cheese entrees are a delightful treat. The brie and chives is my personal favorite, but the chorizo and chedder is a close second. Among the sides, the tater tots and wedges are absolutely delicious. Yum! The location is great. It's right in the heart of Wynyard Quarter, so perfect for taking a stroll over in Silo Park after your lunch or walking down the wharf and enjoying the nice breeze. After finishing writing this review, I'm already dying to go back haha. Seriously though, this place is great.

Just checked in the hotel and came here before it got too late. The Depot had good reviews on Yelp…read moreso I tried it. It's about 15-20 min walk from the warf. It was busy so I was seated outside. They had overhead heat lamps so I was comfortable without a jacket one (this is in June). The menu is geared for sharing dishes so ordering for one is a challenge. I had the local Lagar on tap, 1 of each of the 2 oysters offered, and the NZ green-lipped mussels with chiriso. They also gave me a complementary pita triangles with hummus. Overall, everything was delicious. I could have gone for more oysters, but didn't want to overdo it. The mussel dish had 7 good size mussels so I was satisfied without feeling stuffed. Glad I came to the Depot.

The ambiance was still so chill and not as packed because it was early afternoon, which was nice. The staff again were super friendly and answered any questions we had. Sadly, we didn't get the fish sliders because they were sold out! But we did get some of the same dishes I had ordered before but got oysters as well. The oysters were fresh and tasty, especially with their vinegar sauce. My friends also loved the charred eggplant and a couple of them don't really eat eggplant. The crispy potatoes were so good! The truffle wasn't too overpowering and they were perfectly crisp. The steak was super tender and juicy and the wedge salad helps cut the fat and compliments the steak as well. Can't wait to come back to Depot. Already miss it so much!

I knew the location of our post-cruise hotel and looked up several nearby eateries and convenience stores in the CBD. I was fortunate to find Odettes Eatery, among other restaurants and businesses, across the street from our hotel at the City Works Depot. We had an early breakfast on board before disembarking. Still, when I mentioned eating lunch across the street at Odettes Eatery to my sisters and husband, they heartily agreed to the restaurant's Mediterranean and North African menu. It was peak lunch hour, but we managed to walk in, where we were welcomed and seated by a cheery hostess. Within a few minutes, our friendly and happy server, Jacob, came by to introduce himself, suggest thirst-quenching beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), and describe menu items we weren't sure about, given the menu's limited descriptions. It took us a few minutes to decide on our meals while Jacob piqued our interest with his suggestion of their thirst-quenching Honey and Ginger Lemonade, along with glasses of iced water, giving us a little more time to decide. FOOD: -Flatbread Lunch Special (Gurnard with Romesco): two large strips of golden-fried panko-coated cod-like textured topped a wood-fired flatbread slathered with smoky, nutty, and slightly spicy Romesco sauce. The crisp, fried, panko-coated fish was complemented by lightly dressed, fresh, shredded cabbage and herbs. I asked Jacob to identify the type of fish used in this dish, as my family and I thought it might have been cod or monkfish, but Jacob said it was locally caught gurnard fish. My older sister practically single-handedly devoured this lunch special, but I was happy to have tasted a bit of the crisp fried panko-coated fish. NZ$29/NZ$39 incl beverage -Seared Snapper, Greens, Wild Rice, and Soy Green Goddess: The grilled pieces of fish were "buttery" moist, delicately sweet, and their firm white flesh flaked well. The mild-tasting fish was enhanced by a squeeze of freshly grilled lemon and lightly dressed greens. I preferred the grilled preparation to the deep-fried gurnard. NZ$46 -Chips: My husband and eldest sister zeroed in on the chips, AKA thick-cut, deep-fried potatoes, after reading their accompaniments of berbère, honey mustard, and curry leaves. Although I shared my seared snapper with them, I barely got two pieces of the crispy, on the outside and soft, fluffy, interior, deep-fried chips before my husband and eldest sister stuffed themselves. NZ$16 -Chargrilled Chicken Skewers: The three skewers of chargrilled, juicy, and tender chicken had been seasoned with paprika and turmeric. The chicken skewers were accompanied by toum, a Lebanese garlic sauce, and a few guindillas (Basque Spanish pickled chili peppers). My husband and eldest sister shared the chicken skewers and chips as their meals, exclaiming they'd return for more during our additional 3-day post-cruise stay. NZ$45 -Green Salad: This simple family-sized green salad of green leaf lettuce leaves, radicchio, and sliced cucumbers and radishes was lightly dressed with a semi-sweet, floral, and rich-tasting muscat vinegar and olive oil. This green salad was refreshing, healthy-tasting, and very shareable. NZ$16 Everything about Odettes Eatery from its flavors, food presentation, excellent and friendly service, comfortable ambiance, and value, to me, warrants a 5-star rating from me. There was only one other party there and we got some little quinoa salad appetizers care of the chef which were fresh and light. The pulled oxtail was big and impressive for a starter, and quite tender and juicy. The ricotta and spinach ravioli was much smaller and the purees were light and dampened the strongish ricotta flavor to make the whole dish more subtle. I personally would've preferred something a bit tangy to counter the ricotta, rather just make it less ricotta-y. For mains, the Akaroa king salmon was seasoned and cooked PERFECTLY (crispy skin but still deep pink and juicy on the inside and the whole thing flaked apart)... I love the taste and texture of salmon and the chef really brought out the best of the fish. The large amount of lemon potato that came with it looked like a sauce or soup, but had the texture of thick potato puree and tasted pretty creamy. I liked it, but it was heavy because of the cream and felt like a lot more than an equivalent amount of mashed potatoes (good if you're hungry, but didn't make the dish feel very balanced). The Hawkes Bay lamb scotch fillet was cooked not quite consistently, as a few pieces were medium and some were medium-well. We prefer medium-rare. The stack of cooked veggies that came with it was juicy and flavorful, though. For desserts, the crème brulee was PERFECT and using manuka honey instead of sugar meant it was less sweet, which we preferred. The jasmine infused pineapple with coconut three ways was really nice to eat slowly and enjoy all the different flavors and textures... I quite liked the chewy coconut biscuits, especially when soaked in the juice at the bottom. Overall, really enjoyed our dining experience there. The waitress and chef were really nice to have a chat with on the quiet evening. The dishes were really well priced for the quality, even without a voucher. We'll definitely head back at some point. I want to give them a 4.5, but will round up in this case.

I typically shy away from restaurants that are in the hotel because they tend to be pricey. We felt, for Americans, that this was decently priced and that each time we ate here, we got a different meal FOOD WE TRIED: - Chicken and vegetable dumplings - Prawn and chive Gyoza - Arancini - 55 day aged beef brisket sliders - Seafood Risotto - Spaghetti with mussels, snapper and prawns The sliders, gyoza and spaghetti with seafood was VERY good. I wouldn't order the dumplings again, but I always forget that chicken dumplings just aren't the same as pork and/or shrimp. The Arancini was a bit disappointing in flavor, maybe just a touch more salt would have been helpful and same thing with the flavor of the Risotto. The seafood was cooked perfectly, but the sauce on it just wasn't as flavorful as I would have liked, for a risotto. Service was always great with the staff always helpful with recommendations.
