I have been on well over 50 rollercoasters in my lifetime, and I have never feared for my life on a rollercoaster before this one. The vest restraints on X-Flight are unique in that they never stop getting tighter throughout the ride. Every time you are pinned to the back of your seat by the forces of the ride, that harness gets a little bit tighter. By the end of the ride, I could not breathe. My vision started to go blurry, and then black. I did not fully pass out, because I was able to get out of my seat and exit the ride platform without any assistance, but I was so lightheaded that I was running into people, and I could not see clearly for quite some time afterward. I have never been constricted by an anaconda, but I imagine that this is exactly what it would feel like. Depending on your body proportions, this ride can be outright dangerous, and I am shocked that no one has ever died on it. If I were to get stuck on this ride (technical difficulties, e-stop, etc), I do not think I would live to tell the tale. It is not only dizzying, but excruciatingly painful to have your rib cage constricted like it's in a vice. This displays a terrifying lack of awareness of human anatomy. Our rib cage is designed to expand and contract. If the restraint gets tighter every time we exhale, we will no longer have room to INHALE, and breathing is a vital, life-sustaining function. New vest restraints are snug, but they do not progressively get tighter throughout the ride. Take, for example, the vest restraints on Valravn, Banshee, Gatekeeper, or even Wrath of Rakshasha right at this very park. I think it is criminal that Six Flags has not had X-Flight updated with the updated, safer, vest restraints that the manufacturer is now using. I urge you not to ride if you have a lot of soft tissue on your chest. If you are a woman with a larger cup size (as in, above a D), and a small stomach, this may very well be the last ride of your life. Six Flags, please update these restraints and in the meantime, consider changing the name to something more appropriate like "Boob Buster" or "Anaconda," Or add a cup size limitation to the ride rules and restrictions. This was a ride I was very intrigued the most. Mainly the fact that I tried to get on Gatekeeper back in June and the chain snapped the day I arrived on property so missed out on that. Thankfully I got to ride this back in September and had an absolute blast. Fun to ride and also fun to take pictures and videos on. X but not an X2 fly through wile still super awesome one can only imagine some of the small spaces this coaster goes through! This coaster is definitely one of the best ones Great America has to offer as it is just super fun as well as totally thrilling as your sent on this wing coaster to spin through some really small structures on your adventure through it's track! Just by seeing that layout I knew that this would be an amazing coaster from start to finish as it just has what's good to give you that unique experience that only these types of coasters can give you as it's one of the better ones in the park so don't miss it! Six Flags with their X names generally won't let you down as they are always some of their best rides no matter what park you visit! X-Flight is located in the back of the park so don't miss it as it might take you a bit to get there as there's just soo many awesome things to do here on your Six Flags Great America Day! Growing up, Batman was always my favorite roller coaster at Great America. Now that I've been on X-Flight, it's been slightly edged out and X-Flight has taken the coveted top spot on my list! Similarly to Batman, your feet dangle down --- I think that's such a cool feeling on a coaster. It's set up in such a funny way with 2 seats on each side of a center area so there is nothing above or below you - you feel like you're suspended in mid air kind of. Technically it's called a"Wing Coaster" and was the 4th in the world debuting in 2012.The seats are like one of those couches you just sink back into. It's great with spins, a big drop, narrow misses of structures as you go through small openings, a few smaller drops but overall, it doesn't seem to be going quite as fast as some other coasters (55 mph)...it's just a very smooth ride! It's 1 minute 15 seconds of thrills and fun. read more

WINGS OVER (GREAT) AMERICA This time through, I'm going to do away with all the clever proverbs and quirky pun-laden bullsh*t and cut straight to the chase: X-Flight is the best roller coaster in the park. Others will tell you Goliath or Raging Bull are the best rides @ SFGAm, but I strongly beg to differ. True coaster enthusiasts are likely to agree with meow on this..... .....because X-Flight is 1 of only 4 "wing" coasters in the USA and the fourth one ever built by the legendary firm of Bolliger & Mabillard. It occupies the space that used to be Splashwater Falls, the park's tidal wave flume attraction and sits just outside of the County Fair foodcourt. At 120ft tall and 3,000ft in length, X-Flight is a stellar fit for this Six Flags, and there's a LOT that's crammed into a relatively small space: ~Special ride elements~ *Dive drop *Zero-G roll *Immelman *Zero-G roll *In-Line twist The inversions are packed together tightly but not at the expense of smoothness. In fact, X-Flight delivers an experience that floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee. It's like Muhammad Ali : The Ride. The dive drop is unique, depending on where you're seated on the train (left side or right side, front row or back row). The in-line twist travels through an air traffic control tower which - !!roller coaster fun fact!! - was actually retrieved and brought over from nearby O'Hare International Airport. So that spinning radar thingy on top? Yep, that's more than just an elaborate prop, apparently it had functionality at one point in time. Also, the coaster's final inversion delivers a substantial amount of 'hang time' where those soft, padded vest-style restraints are the only thing keeping your butt from falling into the pond below. The in-line twist is traversed juuuuuust slow enough and looks as though your legs will get clipped from the supporting beams. It's the best kind of scare, intensity based on a rider's depth perception with a nice, fat, built-in factor of safety. Waits can get long (45 minutes to an hour plus) but I've found X-Flight to be well worth the wait, time and time again. You can ride in the outside seat on the front left, front right, back left, and back right......and enjoy a different, thrilling sensation each time! Station crews appeared in good spirits and dispatch times were relatively fast. Between the awesome headchopper/footchopper moments, the graceful transition of elements and overall endorphin rush, I definitely believe X-Flight to be the hands down winner for Great America's best coaster. Feel free to fight me on this one, but I can guarantee you'll lose ;) read more

OK, Folks! Forget about Superman or Batman. Head directly to XFlight. You won't regret a bit if you love riding the roller coasters My DH probably regretted a lot as he lost his prescription class during the ride after I kind of forced him to try this out. He has been taken care our little ones for a few hours. I thought I gave him a treat in the end. Well. We were fortunately at a company event so the park was closed to the general admission. I basically had no wait for the first ride. It was fantastic. Smoother than any other rides. Totally agree with Anthony M. And the best part was your head is no where near the handle or anything. If you ride the Demon, you know what I'm talking about. Your head would be a ball between tow handles on both sides. The rubber vest was tight but comfortable. Superman makes your neck hurt after a few rides. Batman was, sorry, a bit boring. XFlight has great speed, super smooth, fancy turns and I love they put the two and other structure to give you addition thrill when your seat turns and pass the impossible narrow space. Then I was calling my friends to come over and ride on it. Everyone loved this. But somehow, there were quite a few times they stopped/delayed the operation due to issues which basically created long lines. We almost could not make the last ride. They loaded one ride which left only 2 people in front of line of us. The flight moved a bit they stopped. After a few technician looking guys came and did something, the flight slooooowly moved up the slop. Then it stopped entirely on the slope for 5 minutes. I could not imagine the people thinking when sitting in there half way up the slope. Finally it moved up and finished the ride. And we still went on the ride despite the earlier episode. So you know how much fun this could be. I'm totally nuts about this. Yes, go early and go many times as you can on this newest addition to Six Flags. read more

With its Dive Loop from the lift hill, Zero-G Roll, Immelmann maneuver, Corkscrew, and Inline Twist through a fly-through element, the first B&M Wing Rider to open in the United States is one of the best. The only downside is that the wheels are starting to deteriorate, causing the ride trains (a.k.a. Aircrafts) to shake madly as they travel their course. This aging is normal for a B&M, but the longer you leave those wheels on there, the more the shaking becomes permanent over time due to train structural damage. If simply replacing the wheels doesn't fix it, they may want to order new trains. Otherwise, great ride. Just make sure you're between 54 and 78 inches. Otherwise, you won't be able to ride. read more

This is the B&M winged coaster and I felt this was a good ride. This was the first winged coaster I rode and then I rode the one at Cedar Point and Dollywood and Thunderbird at Holiday World. I felt this one was in the middle of the pack. It is fun though as you twist and turn. It does get crowded though as we waited for 30 minutes and it was our 2nd ride of the day. read more

READY FOR TAKEOFF This is the newest roller coaster at Six Flags Great America and probably the smoothest. The first time I rode this ride it was not my favorite and that was because I was sitting in the wrong seat! Yes this roller coaster is a different experience depending on where you sit. Now I'm not gonna give up the secret because that's for you to find out. Plus I don't need to wait any longer to sit in my favorite seat. The best part of the ride is the first drop at the top. I also enjoy the spin through the air traffic control tower. The lines are typically long for this ride. I suggest you get to the park when it opens and head directly here. My wife & I did that last time and rode it two times in a row rather quickly. Also being first in line we had time to talk to the X-Flight employee and get some great stories. He even remembered us later in the day on our third ride. He was talking to us from the ride controls, which was cool and creates a great customer experience. One of the sad things is that this ride took out the Six Flags motorized cars track. These have been here since I was a kid. It makes me kind of sad. Yeah the ride wasn't exciting but it was part of a traditional day at the park. I love that the park left up part of the old track with a few old cars. It can be seen when you are getting on to the American Eagle Roller Coaster, just look below the bridge almost immediately after you enter the ride. A part of history still exists. So if you're a coater nut then this is the newest coaster at 6 Flags. It is amazing to see how technology has advanced. Ride the Demon here and you will see how far we've come. For years, Raging Bull has been my favorite coaster at Six Flags. When X Flight opened, my husband and I longingly walked by with kids in tow wishing we could go! So we chose a weekday and played hooky. While the kids were at summer camp for the day, we ran to Six Flags to try out the ride. Oh my goodness it was AWESOME! Sorry Raging Bull but you have been replaced. X Flight is like a Top Gun knock off as far as themes go. You're going on a serious speed test flight. This rollercoaster twists you, turns you and spins you in ways I hadn't experienced before. If you get an outside seat, you'll get more torque on the turns -- loved it! read more

One of my favorite rides in the park because it has a focus on fun over intensity. The loops and corkscrews give a good feeling of weightlessness but are never disorienting. The dive drop at the start and the numerous near-misses are exciting and brought a huge smile to my face. The keyhole moment is really special, and the fact they used a salvaged flight tower from O'Hare to make it is pretty cool. You really do feel like you're flying an X-Wing or something. Fast, nimble, but always in control. A must-ride attraction for anyone visiting, especially since the wing style seating makes the ride a little different depending on which side you're on. It's not the most intense, but the level of fun and excitement it offers makes it appealing to everyone, even riders new to coasters. read more

The kids love this place so i end up here three times a year, i guess i can only ride certain things because it make me a little light headed to ride most rides, they definitely received five stars for the cleanliness. The food is a bit pricey though just a heads up so you can be prepared to spend more money. read more

Looks ain't everything, and if you want proof of this adage, compare Six Flags Great America's winged coaster to the winged coaster at Cedar Point, Gatekeeper. Gatekeeper is a spectacular sight to behold, rolling past the park entrance and diving through concrete keyholes, gleaming in azure blue with snazzy gold trains. The views from on board are even better, especially if you ride on the left side of the train, as you can gaze upon Lake Erie while you ascend the lift hill. X-Flight's red track with black supports and red, black and silver trains aren't anywhere near as attractive, nor the views it affords, from near to, but not all the way at the back of the park much in the way of sightseeing. That doesn't much matter though, as X-Flight's tightly packed course, with relentless element after element, doesn't give you much time to gaze off fondly into space. With the exception of the first drop X-Flight is an all around better ride than Gatekeeper. I was surprised to see Gatekeeper is 12mph faster the way X-Flight hauls ass through its course. Must be the momentum from the significantly taller first drop. Gatekeeper loses a lot of that momentum though, the way it's elements are gracefully spaced apart. Gatekeeper is like a series of giant but slow ocean waves while X-Flight is a tightly wound red maelstrom. Its near miss element, a flight control tower, is also a much better threading of the needle than Gatekeeper's twin keyholes, though they do make an iconic pair of exclamation points for the Point's entrance. I only took one spin on X-Flight so I can't give you a proper run down on all its maneuvers like, say, Eric S., but suffice it to say it keeps it moving. Even the brake run is intense, bringing you to a jarring stop in a very short amount of space. About the only bad thing I can say about X-Flight is the piped-in message from the drill sargaent that plays repeatedly in the station, ad nauseam, is a major drag. Way too schticky to be taken seriously, I tried my best to tune it out and it ended up becoming the equivalent of a more gruff version of the sounds they use for the adults on Peanuts. Goliath was the aces high at SFGA for me, but X-Flight soars, too. read more

I think this is the smoothest ride in the park. If you like the sensation of going upside down, without actually going upside down, this is the ride for you. Well built, it gives the feeling of doing a sideways flip and is just plain a lot of fun. This is the kind of coaster that you are going to want seconds on, take my word for it! read more

Today I discovered that each ride has it's own yelp page but I rode this over the Summer and wow this ride is nothing but thrills. You're going really fast and going through tight turns as well. The only thing that's annoying is when your close to riding the ride when you're in line is the introductory audio you hear before the ride starts. You'll hear this 50 times but don't let that kill the fun. read more

I love this coaster - it's smooth, fun, and wickedly fun. I look forward to riding this every time I go to the park. I attended the media day and was able to ride this in virtually every seat and to me the 'Money Seat" is in the back row on the left side. But if you want the visuals, go to the exact opposite and sit in the front row on the right side. read more

First time on today and my new favorite for sure. The fly thru features are awesome and the initial dive as they call it is unlike any coaster I've ever been on. Smooth ride and had my adrenaline pumping so good that when we finally reached the end I could hardly breathe with the restraints in place. Best costed by far... well other then the Raging bull. The drop the best and going over the pond when the mister are on is pretty cool.

Went on this as a part of our "Music in the Parks" band trip. Line was not that bad, and was flowing well, considering the amount of people who were at the park. Unfortunately, a person threw up in the seat we were waiting for, but the staff were right on to cleaning it up. Very awesome ride! Will defiantly ride this one again when we come back. read more
