Ok, moving on... Emi was super friendly and didn't make any of us feel like we were too stiff to be there (thank God, I saw bullets streaming down hubby's face when we pulled into the parking lot). The event we attended was called Elites Get Coupled, which was appropriate given that it was almost Valentine's Day. Though my guy was totally nervous about this, I'm so glad we went! Emi, along with Lorien, taught us some merengue moves, and it turns out almost anyone can learn to dance. We felt pretty good about our abilities by the end of the event! Lorien brought in her all-girl hip-hop group (I think they're part of the Pin-Up Troupe?), and they were SO COOL... and talented, obviously. I could have watched these ladies perform all day!! Though they may have had me feeling like my new merengue moves were a little lame, at least now I know I have something to work towards... right? One of the best parts about Dancefx is the fact that they're a non-profit and donate to all kinds of local charities that support causes like fighting AIDS, helping the homeless and people with disabilities, and so on. I think it'd be such a thoughtful date idea to bring someone here and learn a couples dance! I shared with her that I had no experience but was looking to learn in a fun environment. She recommended Mr.C's Beginners Ballet. I mentioned that I read the description and that the class was not a 101 class. She was friendly and encouraged me so I thought I would give it a shot. When I arrived I shared with the woman wearing glasses at the check in desk that this was my first time. She was short with me and I had to ask where to go until the class started. I came out before class started and mentioned it looked as though everyone had quite a bit of experience. The three women at the front including Sarah assured me that it would be uncomfortable but to give it a try. I even asked if Mr.C would yell and they all said no. I had and eerily similar experience to the other reviewers with no experience. I was berated throughout the entire class. Even while I cried Mr. C persisted on critiquing me. He moved my head and forced me to look at him. I also lost the will to continue when everyone had to dance across the room. As he was shouting that I had to do it I calmly said I had enough. I went to gather my thing and he thrust his hands at me and shouted, "NEVER COME BACK!" As I put my shoes on in the lobby not one of the three women said a word. I would not recommend TADA. My goal was to learn, not be humiliated. This is not ok for anyone. I have read the review responses on Mr.C's background and I don't think this serves as an excuse for rude and unprofessional behavior. Perhaps just be direct and let adult beginners know that this isn't the place to learn. What I did take away was a reminder that when you are an expert and someone is a novice to always be patient and encouraging. The world could use more patience and kindness.

When you see all the trophies on the shelves you see it did not come from cracking a whip, but from loving guidance and direction (which may include some whip cracking but they whip you gently so you welcome it). I have never seen so many healthy ppl in my life. The men and women at Dance 411 have redefined humanity for me. While there are different personalities there is a cohesion among the ppl running the place that is really noteworthy. I wanted to check them out before bringing my kid. Now my child has started and Im addicted to going. When I saw how much my social skills improved I wanted the same for my child. Ill go as long as she is happy going. It's really easy to spot the location as you approach the shopping plaza from the south, and it took me less than 5 minutes to get here from I-285. The studio is nicely decorated, giving a comfy, welcoming feeling when you enter. This is in stark contrast to some studios I've gone to that are basic and drab. There is only space for one class at a time, but the floor is huge! I'm thinking there would be more than enough room for a class of 30 people. There are barres (the portable kind) for hosting ballet classes, and weights of all sizes for fitness classes. The floor is kind of slippery, so if you tend to dance barefoot a lot and have soft feet (like me - definitely slipped a couple times lol) I'd suggest to at least wear some jazz footies with a grip bottom. There is ample cubbie space to store your belongings during class. There's even a good amount of waiting room for parents if you're looking to hold a class for children. Also there is a dressing room in addition to one unisex bathroom. On my way out, I spoke to the owner who was extremely friendly and mentioned that the studio has several time slots open for rentals at the moment. Dance instructors - check this place out!

Come get your dopamine fix, you won't regret it. Also, for the first year I just came to the classes. They did not pressure me to do any of the special community events, I was busy with work anyway. I did one when I felt good and ready, I'm grown. So if you want to just go to a class or two, do it! It's changed how I show up at home, work, and my friends even joined me, joy is contagious. And the main reason we wont let our child participate in recitals / parades, etc., is bc she's not that GOOD! YET!!! But recitals n stuff is a scam to just get more money out of you! But the straw that broke the camel's back is coming right off Thanksgiving they shoved a pack of raffle tickets in my face neatly wrapped with my childs name on it - I asked what if we don't want to participate in that (SCAM) the unprofessional said you have to pay $50. You already know - DECLINE!!!! Next class the coach only let my child practice a few routines. Towards the end the coach left my child standing in line waiting for her turn. The ignored my baby! Finally, my child just left and got her STICKER and belongings and we left. After I witnessed that as I watched from outside through the glass window, I decided to finish the course and w/draw my child. There is no way I will allow them to bully my child ALL bc I declined to sell or pay them $50 for some RAFFLE TICKETS!!! So this Wednesday, they paid my child no attention ! My baby got little practice and was told the training was for kids in the parade (which the coach denied saying it when I confronted her about it). But this week not only did the coach limit my child practice she wudnt even let her get a STICKER - NOPE! THE COACH TOOK THE STICKERS AND STARTED TAPPING MY CHILD ON HER HEAD WITH THEM!!!!! Coming in with practically zero dance experience--and not much natural rhythm--I initially felt self-conscious and intimidated, but the incredibly kind and welcoming staff put me at ease right away. We've had lessons with Oscar, Tristen, and Olga, and every single session has been an absolute joy. They are not only skilled instructors, but also patient, encouraging, and so much fun to work with. Tay has also been amazing, always helping us with scheduling and making us feel right at home. It's been so exciting to see how much we've improved with each lesson. We genuinely look forward to every class, and learning to dance together has turned out to be such a fun and romantic experience. I only wish we had started sooner! The studio itself is stunning--warmly furnished, immaculately kept, and located in a convenient spot behind the mall with its own easy-to-access parking lot. Not only am I more confident, I'm more outgoing, I'm more willing to try new things, and my anxiety over social situations have decreased drastically. The Sunday after my introductory lesson, my Pastor noticed I was carrying myself differently and made a comment about it. When I say this specific Dance With Me location has the most inviting, friendly, encouraging staff, I mean it! Everyone is welcome, and taking classes here has shown me that anybody can be a dancer. I was concerned because I'm plus sized, and I thought I might experience some limitations, but being here taught me that I was the only thing holding me back. The instructors have so much faith in us students and gently push us out of our comfort zones. If you're hesitant, I really think you should give it a try!
