I tried contacting the Genealogy Society several times (4) and they dont respond. Where has it all gone? And not a friendly place.

The thing I don't like is they rarely offer programs for older teens at the Miamisburg branch. I'd love to see a poll out for our Miamisburg community each season to see what works around school and sports. I also find that a lot of the cool library programs are ran at libraries in the north vs anywhere close to home. It seems like the library staff doesn't really want to host events for families in their area.

The DML Miamisburg Branch is a quiet little library somewhat off the beaten path. When you walk in,…read moreyou'll notice the vaulted ceiling surrounding the middle of the library with lots of windows allowing plenty of natural light. Group spaces include two quads with space for up to 4 people, two group rooms for up to 8 people, one conference room for up to 10 people and a community room for up to 45 people. They also have a quiet reading room with two 4-person tables and several reading chairs. My first time visiting I had trouble finding where to park, as there is not a lot attached to the building. The Miamisburg Board of Education building is directly north of the library and has some parking on its' south end, but I wasn't sure if library patrons were allowed to park there. I drove around the block and ended up parking in a street spot on 6th St. Once inside, I learned the lot used for the library is actually across 6th St, just northeast of the library. Although, signs for this would have been helpful. Overall though, another great DML branch!

I have been at the new library several times now, and each experience has been great. Admittedly I…read morehave not been there for the books but for the environment. I currently telecommute for work but working at home can be a little isolating. So I go to the library to work in a quiet environment that allows me to focus yet is open and bright(lots of windows). The furniture is comfortable, there is free WiFi, the librarians are pleasant and helpful, and as a town resident I can reserve a meeting room for times that I need to talk on the phone with my co-workers. I know that this is not the traditional use of the library but since we pay taxes to support it, as long as I don't disturb anyone else in the process, I feel perfectly good about it. I wrote my dissertation in a public library years ago and came to appreciate them not only for this sort of thing but as a continuing center of the community. They are a hive of activity that we should maintain. And for me, when I take breaks from work, I enjoy the magazines and books available to me. Support your local library!

The building is open and bright, with plenty of seating spread throughout the space and I had no trouble finding a table with power nearby so that I could settle in and send a few emails. It's the kind of place where you can get a lot done without feeling crowded and the overall atmosphere is calm in a way that makes focusing pretty easy. The only real bummer is the study room policy. They only allow library card holders (i.e., residents) to use them, which meant that I had to leave before my Zoom meeting so that I wasn't disturbing other patrons. I would have stayed longer otherwise, because everything else about the visit was great. I've been to a number of similar national monuments including the President Taft home not terribly…read morefar away in Cincinnati. The National Park Service has done a fabulous job of keeping to the structure of the home and still managing to tell the story of a great man. At a time when the nation and the military was still divided along racial lines, Charles Young graduated from the US Military Academy (the third African-American to do so). He was the first black US National Park superintendent and the first black man to achieve the rank of colonel in the US Army. And in fact was the highest-ranking black officer in the Army until his death in 1922. In 1894, he was assigned to Wilberforce College here, one of the Historically Black Colleges, to lead the new military sciences department. When the Spanish-American War broke out, he was promoted to major and commanded the 9th Ohio Infantry Regiment. He went on to serve as the superintendent of Sequoia and General Grant national parks. The museum goes into much depth for Young's 1912 assignment as military attaché to Liberia, the first African-American to hold that post. However when the United States was to enter World War I, he was removed from service due to a "medical issue." In 1919, Young was reassigned as military attaché to Liberia. The Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers National Monument recently went through a multi-year renovation…read morebefore reopening the house, Youngsholm, to the public. This building was the home of Brigadier General Charles Young, whose story is fascinating. He was one of the first African American graduates of West Point and had a storied military career, which intersected very closely with the history of the National Park Service itself, as it turns out the army used to be responsible for maintenance of the national parks in their early years. This is how Young became the first African American national park superintendent - out at Sequoia. All of this information and more were introduced to visitors here. There is a good introduction film, "A Triumph of Tragedy: The Life of Charles Young," shown in an upstairs room. The lower floor has a couple of rooms full of displays on both Charles Young's life and the Buffalo Soldiers, of whom Young served as their commander. There is a small gift shop in a back room, as well. The rangers are very friendly and helpful. They were offering a program during our visit, and the hosting ranger was really great with the kids who were participating. Parking is available in a lot to the side of the house. Hopefully, they'll continue to grow this site!

As many times as Ive been coming to Dayton for family in my relatively new marriage of 4 years, it…read moreis nice to start going to places that my wife has never been to despite growing up in this area. The Wright Brothers constructed a launch pad for their aircraft and managed to circle this field for up-to 30 minutes. The site adjacent is now a gun range, and an airport where aeronautical engineering has become classified. However, it's pretty amazing to come here and soak up the history. The flowers and fields are also beautiful, but don't go around picking them. That will get you fined.

This site is officially part of the air force base but also a part of the National Parks system…read more It is where aviation literally took off - where they tested flyers and trained future pilots. One of the signs says it is the world's first airport and I liked that description. It is a beautiful meadow filled with a wide variety of wild flowers. There is a parking area with a trail, or you can follow the road to get to where the majority of the placards with historic information are located. (although there isn't really a place to park in that area). The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is that it can really use some TLC. The signage is a bit faded and the replica structure could use some tidying up and some pieces painted or replaced.

It's a city within a city. Churches, grocery, airport, restaurants, gas stations, gyms, hospital,…read more and even a "Mayor" in the form of a base commander. It's also Ohio's largest single site employer. And the economic impact is huge. Having the Air Force Materiel Command MAJCOM is a bonus as well. Missions encompass Science and Technology, foreign military sales, security,. Acquisition and so much more. Even education at the Air Force Institute of Technology. Several times it's been voted the number one military base in the country. I agree. So do many others which makes the Dayron Region a favorite place to retire with so much support here and a great economic level of living. Be both respectful and grateful to have WPAFB as a member of this great community. This would be a great place to start the cheesy patriotic music....

Take in the physical space and nearby terrain. It is a beautiful place for a mound! I wonder where the nearest water is. That could be more clearly illustrated in the exhibit. Perhaps speculate as to where the dirt was pulled from. Then climb the stairs and take in the fantastic views! This is a short trip and worth the stop between Cincinnati and Dayton for travelers.
