Excellent martial arts school. Great blend of traditional and practical. My experience is with their kids programs. Both my boys have been going for a while. Phenomenal family environment for kids, with classes divided by age and experience and a very clear, balanced promotion system. Superb instructors who do a great job balancing learning and discipline with fun. Sifu Charles is a gifted teacher of children. We're very blessed that xiaolin martial arts is part of our kid's lives. read more

Love the staff. Any questions or limitations you have are answered promptly and they care about you! They have lots of different hours for your changing lifestyle and the workouts are amazing. You never get bored with their workouts! I have been in the best shape of my life and gained strength I never knew I could get at my age! I am able to recover faster and regain my strength quicker with tai chi not to mention feeling calmer with today's stressors! Thank you Sifu Charles & the team! read more

This martial arts studio is great. The classes are very fun for the kids and they learn a lot. The instructors are great and are very supportive of the kids. The schedules are convenient for parents and the cost is reasonable. We are very happy to be a part of these classes and community. read more

History

Established in 2004.

Sifu Charles Bigham first entered martial arts at age 6. After training for eight years in Japanese Goju, Sifu found his true calling in Kung Fu once he joined Shaolin Kung Fu Temple. Years of rigorous daily practice under the guidance of Sifu Paula Wong and Grandmaster Tak Wah Eng along with cross training in many other systems prepared Sifu Charles to become the manager as well as the Chief instructor of Shaolin Kung Fu Temple. In 2005, Sifu Charles was granted the Title of Sifu and 4th degree black belt by Grandmaster Tak Wah Eng and subsequently opened Xiaolin Marital Arts in 2006. Along with years of experience in the martial arts, Sifu is also an experienced artist having instructed children's art classes at the Children's Workshop and designed all the artwork for Xiaolin Martial Arts.

Sifu Charles started his journey in martial arts with Karate at the age of 6. After moving on to Kung Fu as a teen and spending his entire adult life instructing he opened Xiaolin Martial Arts. Ten years later Xiaolin Martial Arts is going strong! With a wonderful staff of instructors that grew up in Xiaolin, amazing, dedicated students and a constantly evolving approach to his own training Sifu Charles does what he loves every day!

Many of the families that returned each year were multi-generational. The special part of being a resident were the activities each day run by a hired camp counselor team. We had an orchestra from NYC play every Saturday night starting at 6 PM for the little kids, teenagers danced to records, then the band came back at 10 PM for the adults. We participated in all sports. My first kiss, first beer, first dance all happened at Cedar Grove. We lost our house in 1992 to a strong storm, and I understand the entire beach was decimated during hurricane Sandy. Of all my life long memories, Cedar Grove Beach Club is my most favorite, sacred of all others. I cherish those summers.

I know there are nicer beaches, Jersey Coast and such, but this one is local.

I am also so happy that Wheeler park welcomes everyone from all over NJ (and elsewhere). Coming from out of the county will cost you a bit more, but not much. If you live outside of Union County it is $4.00 for kids ($2.00 in county) and $6.00 for adults ($3.00 in county). This splash pad has every water feature a kid could ever need - from bigger twisty water slides, to a small dragon water slide. Also, water guns that you can shoot each other with, a pirate boat, water shooting up from the ground, and much more. My kids spent a little over 2 hours here and had an absolute blast. We've been here about 3 times and it never disappoints. Just be sure to bring some sort of shade covering. There isn't much cover at the splash pad so we usually bring our small beach tent with us. There is also a dry playground in the splash pad gated area where kids can play too. They have staff who help keep the kids safe and to make sure everyone goes down the water slides safe and sound. I highly recommend Wheeler Spray Park on a hot summer day.
