We went the day after the grand opening and decided to go at 10 a.m., hoping to beat the crowd; the joke was on us. The splash pad is a good size and has a lot of fountains; it was just busier than expected given the timing of our visit. There is an area for younger kids, but it is not clearly marked, so keep an eye out for that. I will add that there are large rocks in the splash pad; I assume they are meant as a slip-and-slide type feature, but I personally saw a few accidents, so use caution with your little ones. As it got more crowded, we made our way to the park area, and it did not disappoint. There is a zip line, jungle gym, ropes, slides...there truly is something for every age. Plenty of shade and seating all around, which, as a parent, I really appreciated, and parking was great. We will be back, and it has been added to our list of things to do!

My opinion is that they crammed too many fields together. Think about it nine fields in section A and hundreds of family members squeezing in- one little set of bleachers and this year they have advertising across the fences to block the view. They put most of the parking in the woods no where near the fields. They also do monitor the handicap parking so first come first serve and no display of handicap plates or anything. So I have seen wheels having to park in the woods. I mean people are parking on the grass at the fields so why don't they tear out the muddy grass and make more parking up near the fields? And when you have to park at fields B you have get in line of all the cars from A. Please put a exit out the back of the complex oh that would be to smart or at least have two lanes in and out with a traffic light.

Avoid Midlothian Kids Academy at all costs…read more This daycare has extremely high staff turnover and poor supervision of the children. When my son moved to the two-year-old classroom, we were told they would help with potty training -- but within a week they began complaining about accidents and even suggested we bring in Pampers. It was clear they just didn't want to do their job. I refused, and ironically, my son's potty training improved right after that. The food they serve is subpar -- my son comes home hungry every day. Classrooms are often combined because they're short-staffed, creating chaos and disorganization. When incidents happen, they rarely communicate unless you call to ask what happened. One of the most concerning experiences was when my son came home with his face visibly swollen from crying. We were told he had a hard time going to sleep at nap time -- but we picked him up at 5 p.m., which means he was left crying unattended for an extended period of time. That's completely unacceptable and heartbreaking for any parent to hear. Worst of all, the director is dismissive and gaslights parents instead of being transparent or taking accountability. If you care about your child's safety, nutrition, and emotional well-being, run far away from this place.

The director and assistant director were very welcoming, friendly and helpful in addressing all of our questions and concerns. Although my daughter wishes she could come home afterschool, Midlothian Kids Academy has provided a safe place for her with age-appropriate activities. This is a review for Captain Mike's private eagle tour…read more My fiancee's family and I booked a 2 hour private eagle tour this recent week and it was one of the most fantastic experiences I've had in Richmond! Our tour started bright and early at 7:30 AM out of a private yacht club dock on Captain Mike's pontoon boat. He provides everything you'll need for the trip from water for hydration, binoculars for avian viewing, and blankets if you decide to not dress warm enough. There is easily seating for at least 6 on the boat itself. There are restrooms right by the dock as well. Mike as a tour guide was fantastic. There's a difference between simply knowing what you're talking about versus being truly passionate about it, and Mike is absolutely the latter. Our tour brought us through 5 resident eagle territories (eagle pairs are extremely territorial and rarely cross boundaries), and Mike knew the names, history, boundaries, and interesting quirks about each pair. We saw at least one eagle from all of the pairs, and half of the time both the male and the female. He is also very knowledgeable about many of the other birds on the river like osprey, herons, cormorants, and kingfishers. Mike also keeps a stash of fish on the boat to feed the eagles and bring them in close. I knew we would see eagles on the tour, but I no idea that we'd be maybe 20 feet from them. There's a big difference between seeing one in a tree or a zoo versus seeing one swooping down in front you scooping up a fish to bring back to a tree or their nearby nest. It's really quite a breathtaking experience. The stretch of river itself is nice in its own right as well. If for some weird (and wrong) reason that you're not interested in learning about the majestic birds of the river, you could just sit back and enjoy a nice boat ride down the James. The site lists the details and cost of the tour if you wanted to read more about it. The private tour is about $300 for two hours for up to a group of six people. In my opinion it is absolutely worth it. There's a wealth of knowledge to learn about from Captain Mike, and everything was just a great experience. Absolutely recommend.
