Russ runs an experience unlike those you'll find on the larger whale watching vessels. Sure it'll cost you a bit more if you're a couple...but it'd still be worth it in my opinion. If you have a family or are traveling with a larger group, the answer is easy...call Xplore Offshore first. Comparable to a general admission vs. "meet & greet" at a concert. Only caution would be for those with infants or who are elderly. There is no cabin to escape from the elements if/when it gets cold, windy, etc.

I booked a half day trip for 7 of my family and friends and I through a deal on living social. Pros - Friendly and funny captain - Captain Russell is one of the most knowledgeable and laid back people I've ever met. He's been doing this for five summers now and it shows in his trips. He has a keen eye and spots things out in the ocean easily. He's patient, very flexible, and brings you great food! Amazing ride out there - just to be out in nature and out away from the land is an experience in itself Wildlife - We saw a sunfish and hundreds, I mean HUNDREDS of dolphins! Both common and bottlenose. No one got seasick - the boat travels like a jetski, so it kind of feels like you're on a roller coaster if the waves are choppy - REALLY entertaining though! Freshly made food is provided - We all ate wraps, fruit, pita chips, cookies, chicken, peanut butter filled pretzels, and sesame almonds till we all couldn't eat anymore The boat! - My friends we're shocked with how small the boat was, but I told them not to worry. After boarding it we we're shown all the features of the boat. It has a bathroom, pretty good sound system, a warm water shower, an intense navigation system, and storage to keep all of your stuff dry. Cons Nothing on Captain Russell's part but the weather was a little foggy and the algae bloom made us not want to go snorkeling :( In Short I would definitely recommend taking this trip with some adventurous friends. Listen to the captain and head out there when the weather is good. Bring your cameras, warm clothes, binoculars, and an appetite. Nature, food, spontaneity, it's all there.

How many people are able to go on a boat tour?

My USCG license allows for 12. I tell my guests that 8 is a better maximum. Sizes vary from big adults to small kids. Every group is a little different.

I Had checked prices on line & saw tickets were $49 for 1-day passes. Looked great! However when we arrived in person at the ticket booth on April 9th & wanted to purchase 4 tickets, it was $85 per ticket for 1-day passes! $340 for 4 people I thought I had misread the on-line price. But we hadn't. Prices are NOT consistent. Most dates are $45. Some days were $53. For whatever reason 4/9 was $85. It made zero sense & I felt scammed! It would have been cheaper to drive ourselves & pay for parking & skip sites we had no little interest in. Or, get on the actual red San Diego Trolley & explore that way. Our driving "J" seemed nice, but commentary was a mix of really cheesy jokes & facts. When we got off & re-boarded again hours later, we were a bit bummed to have the same driver again. He seemed a bit..frazzled cause we were running a little late, traffic was building up around 4pm & some kids on the trolley were loud, which required him to talk over them. He frequently stopped & asked us all to lower our voices, even though it was 2 parents 3 unruly kids doing ALL the yapping disrupting the tour. Listening to them made me regret even more we paid $320 for this experience. IF you do this activity check/get tickets on-line so you can actually see the prices that specific day & avoid paying double & feeling ripped off. The overall experience wasnt work $320 & I'll never take visiting guest in this tour again

Whether you're a local or visiting San Diego this is a really fun activity on the weekend with yummy drinks and good vibes. Originally we were booked for a 10:30am tour that goes out to watch the sea lions out on the bay, unfortunately not enough people booked that one so it was cancelled. Even though our original plan was cancelled Tiki Time Tours went above and beyond to make sure we had a good experience and not only complimentary upgraded our tickets to a more expensive tour, they also gave our party a free round of drinks for the inconvenience! I think this speaks a lot about a company; anyone can be happy with customer service when everything goes according to plan, but the most important times to step up is when plans get cancelled/changed and that's exactly what they did for us! Instead of the sea lion tour we ended up doing the Tiki Live! tour at 3pm. This tour is about 2 hours and while you're out on the water you mingle with everyone else and play games that can win prizes for yourself, your party or the whole boat! The games were fun, interactive and silly. At some points we got close enough to shore and made people on land be a part of our games! Donny was our tiki tour master and he was really funny during the whole tour. In between games he just let the music play so we could enjoy the atmosphere and drinks. My entire group left with nothing but great things to say about the whole experience. My friend even won a free tour for another time so we will definitely be returning for more tiki fun.

RANDOM SUNDAY -…read moreStunning Views - Drinks + shots - Stunning views - chances to win money and prizes My friends randomly saw this boat and said we should do it for fun. Tickets were around $47 per person for a 2hr water tour around the Bay in a boat decorated in tiki decor. For tourist this tour is great with a ton of fun information about San Diego and stunning views in the water. Minimum 8 people on the boat or there may be cancellation of the tour. PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS. The guide will have some friendly trivia for a chance to win good cash prices, free drinks, gift cards, etc I think that was pretty fun to include in while getting a tour. If you are sensitive to getting seasick, I would recommend a Dramamine beforehand. Although the boat was spacious, it still felt the wakes from the other boats and you can go rocking. In addition there were slow times of moving and turning. Or you can just chuck down a few drinks and feel numb to it all! They have a Tiki Bar with a drink menu (no food) to purchase from and if you bring snacks to eat - you can't eat it on the boat. Drinks were good but their "house" made shots were pretty good! We had a couple rounds of those while on tour - paid round by a passenger or a free shot in the house by the staff. The awkward but not so awkward would be mingling with other folks on the boat that you don't know. One of my friends kept interjecting with another party and while they seem to not mind I could tell they were being polite but if it were me I'd probs be annoyed if someone kept interjecting while I'm having a good time with my friends. Although we all got along and occasionally shared cheers with shots. Luckily the boat was near empty with just a few of us to have some space to do your thing. Overall, nice little 2hr time in the water. Would highly recommend the later session to catch the sunset. Until the next review....

We started out at the Our Lady of the Rosary Church for the history of the Italians coming to San Diego. It was stunning the day after Christmas and some of the Pastors were there too. Then we went through The Piazza to Davanti's where we had a cocktail, Pizza, Bruschetta and Ricotta cheese toast with honey ... SO YUMMY!!! We stayed here a bit long for all this food but they accommodate me having a pine nut allergy which was very nice. Then onward to Landini's (the upstairs restaurant) where we had meatballs and pancetta with mozzarella with a little red wine ... again incredible!! We were late for our last stop before dessert so he improvised in the best way possible and Monello's accommodated our party of 11 with a liqueur, bread with shaved amazing cheese then the mist heavenly lemon cheese homemade pasta stirred together in a cheese wheel. We were stuffed by this point but then we had dessert. Salunto bakery and gelato. I had coconut gelato. What a great night. We got history, a beautiful walk and the most food I've ever had on a food tour. Excellent job!!!
