Truly one of the best coffee shops around! It's the perfect place to relax, get some work done, or simply enjoy a great cup of coffee. They serve delicious meals, quality coffee, pastries, and desserts, making it a great spot any time of day. I've been coming to this location for years. Back when it was open 24 hours, it was an amazing place for students and anyone needing a quiet spot to study or work late. While the hours have changed, it still offers the same welcoming atmosphere that keeps me coming back. The staff is phenomenal--always friendly, professional, and happy to help. I have no problem with a coffee shop that does black coffee well. I don't do any special just black. I want a good cup of quality coffee quickly. They delivered that. Not that any of the more complex drinks are bad in any way. But some shops grind to a standstill preparing 4 or 5 of them at a time. Service was alright and it could have used to be cleaned up a bit. So . . . figured I should update my review for one of THE BEST coffee shops in AZ in my humble opinion. I've been "a regular" for over 20 years. I used to frequent this intersection a lot more about 15 years ago and stopped in here quite often for years. Then I found myself not in the neighborhood and kind of "forgot" how great it was. For the past 2 years I've been much more of a regular again. The coffee is always consistent ~ the beans are roasted in house and are top notch. Some places tend to over roast and the coffee can be bitter. But NOT HERE! I love that they use a local bakery for their pastries which are always fresh and the perfect complement to any coffee, smoothie or beverage of your choice! The staff is super friendly and always cheerful. I love that this used to be a bank that's been converted. The old vault is now a room for gaming or just to meet up with friends. I stopped in at xtreme bean for a few hours to get some work done in the area. Last time I was here was probably 10 years ago and they're still kicking. The barista was cheerful and I ordered a breakfast sandwich, which was good and a vanilla latte - also good. The sandwich gets a little messy with cream cheese and fillings but it was good. There were power outlets with USB-A sockets all around which is nice. Lots of tables to get work/studying done. However, the longer I stayed and looked around, I noticed minor things that I think could be improved. firstly; it's loud. Even with modern ANC headphones there was a lot of noise coming through. There aren't many soft surfaces and the kitchen area has a lot of banging going on. Second, the more I looked up, the more I noticed strands of cobwebs and dust on the many fixtures hanging from the ceiling. Someone needs to get up there with a dusting pole. Last, and least, the decor just kinda feels dated. Colored acrylic panels hanging from the ceiling, purple walls, big drywall openings up behind the suspended ventilation ducts. Overall it was an ok place to work or study if you need some background noise. They've been there for decades. It's kinda cozy but a few refreshes could go a long way. read more

This coffee shop is alright. We were in town with a couple of friends who cannot function without coffee. We were looking for a coffee shop near where we were staying and settled on this one. We ordered our drinks and breakfast items individually. They have all sorts of drinks, some breakfast sandwiches, and pastries. I ordered the Fire in the Hole sandwich, and I wish I could tell you how it was but they messed up my order. There were a lot of people and the staff looked like they were in a rush, so I kept to myself. The bagel I got was fine. Overall, decent experience. Coffee shop that gets the job done. read more

Xtreme Bean has a lovely space that is great for getting work done or reading a book. The coffee shop is split into several different spaces such as a quiet individual working area behind a vault door, covered outdoor seating, comfortable chairs near a piano, and tables near windows letting in light. The menu offers many different types of drinks from basic iced coffees to more elaborate flavors. Xtreme Bean also sells great bagel sandwiches that are fairly priced and hit the spot. The coffee shop has plenty of parking spaces as it's in/near a large strip mall. There is also great drive-thru service with friendly staff that always seems to ask about your day! Hey Susan, the reason why I know these things are because I was a former employee, correct. Which backs up my statement even more. I quit for a reason. You are NOT inspected by the health department regularly. I vividly remember one night closing with one other employee who also had a fear of bugs and major anxiety, and she almost had a panic attack after pulling the refrigerated prep table away from the wall to clean it. Huge roaches ran out. When cleaning the espresso machine by the drive thru window, I was told by other employees who had been there longer than me to not remove the entire back wall to clean inside because there were bugs inside of the machine. That back room where all the syrups are? Gross. Try again. And tell me I'm wrong about the bagels I dare you. Sorry, forgot one more thing. Be careful in the bathrooms. We were instructed to take extreme caution when taking out the trash because used needles had been found poking out of them. Nasty. When I started working here, management was amazing- no wonder they left a month or two in. read more

I have been coming here for 20 plus years. Best Customer Service, beverages and food of any coffee shop in Tempe IMHO. They have a piano for any of you percussionist who want to tickle the Ivories. Large outdoor patio and lots of free parking. This is also a great place to spend some time while waiting for tires to be installed or rotated at the local tire shop in the same plaza. Live music occasionally in the evenings. This also a great place to meet a friend, study or for a casual business meeting. The Vault is a nice quiet spot to spend time when you want a little more privacy or quiet while you study. read more

The coffee is pretty alright they seem to put a lot of effort into it. The barista was super confused when I asked for a decaf latte which we were able to get over but did leave me with slight "did i get caffeinated" anxiety. We ordered two bagel sandwiches and were given two plain cream cheese bagels. with different cream cheese since they were out. Then we had to bring it back to get the actual sandwich in it. Then there was a very small sausage and the majority of my sandwich was bagel, cheese, cream cheese, egg, which is as weird as you'd expect. They got the wrong size of drink as well adding to confusion. Overall, I've heard they're usually more consistent but this was a kinda disappointing trip. Lots of breakfast food and drink options. A whole lot of different syrups. They also have a drive thru. I got an everything bagel sandwich with bacon, egg, and cheese and a cold brew. Decent pricing in my opinion. The food and coffee were fine. I felt the sandwich could have used more seasoning, which is funny since you'd think the everything bagel would help with that, but it really didn't. The staff was friendly enough, but not very engaging. Nothing completely bad or would keep me away next time, just didn't make me feel very welcomed like other local spots do. read more

I had to wait for my boyfriend's car to get fixed over at discount tire, so while I waited I wandered over to this little coffee shop. First off LOVED listening to someone play the piano in the corner. There was this man inside who was disturbing the peace and making inappropriate comments, and eventually moseyed his way over to me. I didn't even want to deal with it, but I also didn't want to be confrontational or rude so O responded kindly. I didn't even have to say a word before the staff approached him and asked him politely to leave. The moment I made eye contact with the barista behind the counter I knew I would be safe. Good product! Poor service and very unfriendly staff. My then BF ( now husband) used to come here often in college. Today we came and re- visited the ambiance and customer experience has totally changed. Back then it mostly catered to the hipster crowd but now the two employees serving us were totally RBF and didn't seem engaged. When we got our order the blond barista did not even say your drinks are ready, she just put them on the end table and did not even label the cups to help distinguish which drink is what. XBC is a nice independent coffee shop which gets points off the bat in my book. Plusses are it's larger than average with plenty of comfy lounge seating and also a work/study room and patio area. Baristas are professional. I enjoyed my coffees and large mug mocha. Negatives are prices are higher than chains and evening hours could be later(closed at 8pm). read more
