Most older Volvos can have their keys programmed by a third-party locksmith--it's hit or miss depending on the model. Newer Volvos, typically 2015 and up, absolutely require dealership access to program keys, which can cost several hundred dollars. I called around to about 10 other locksmiths, and none of them wanted to touch the Volvo. Eli, on the other hand, immediately said, "I'll give it a shot. I'll cut the key, and if it doesn't work, I won't charge you." He showed up on time, was communicative, polite, and professional. Although the key couldn't be programmed to the car (a known challenge with some Volvos), he still managed to cut the exact key I needed--and left a great impression. True story, I tried a "verified" business on one of the apps, only to get completely scammed by a locksmith. Since that time I have been asking around and a few of my friends said "Pierre on Sunbeam" and that was the right answer. From the time I first spoke to them on the phone, they made me aware of what the maximum cost would be to get me a new key FOB. There was a caveat that they needed to see the car to make sure, which is exactly what I did. And from the time I entered, to the time my parts were ready, they were professional, proficient and honest. Want to know something else, the price they quoted me was more than what they charged. The owner simply said, "it did not take me as long as I thought". But that is not even the best part - I had a latch on my center console he fixed and later texted me the repair part I needed with the caption "when it comes in, I will put it in for you". Also, they have a cool in store set up with lanyards, hidden key boxes, fake rocks to hide hidden keys, color coded keys and lots other cool gadgets.
