The ownership should feel free to contact me. While in town on 9/20 and 9/21 I stopped in twice as I've been a fan from afar, I'm supportive of LGBTQ inclusive nightlife in Wichita.
While I no longer live in Wichita I think it's great that there's a dance space for the cimmunity, and you have the perfect location.
While XY was virtually empty on both nights, I was more baffled by the fact that someone would invest money to open a venue resembling a 90's college bar. The decor was uninspired, and the country music seemed an odd choice considering you could get that at 10 other clubs. Not differentiating XY from the run of the Mill is extremely shortsighted, 'because people can drink for a lot less at home,' if you want them to come out then give them a Sexy reason.
Additionally, I know that high caliber, attractive, intelligent bar staff is very difficult to come by in some market, but you may want re-evaluate the criteria you are using during the interview process for your customer facing employees.
After leaving XY on 9/21 I posted my disappointment to the XY FB page. Shortly thereafter the bartender/bareback from XY (A round faced middle aged gender nonconfirming person with a beard and Slightly thinning, frayed but long hair (Colored with a fantastic shade of Smoke) pulled into the Parking lot of The Rain bar & buffett, jumped from his vehicle and confronted me about my Short and Respectful FB post. His hands were visibly shaking while he paced between me and the back door of the Rain Buffett & Club. He proceeded to yell, "Just because you're from New York City doesn't mean you're better than us!(I am from Wichita btw) You were disrespectful to us and you are rude!!" A woman who may have been his grandmother began yelling something unintelligible yet belligerent for the passenger side of the vehicle.
I calmly explained my post and asked the rotund and slightly unhinged man, " If you can't address the issues with XY, why are you here talking to me? Why are you stalking me?"
I want my LGBTQIA friends to have a beautiful and safe place to party in Wichita, XY could be that place. However, allowing your employees to stalk tourists off your premises to verbally assault them on your behalf is antithetical to what a customer dependent bar/club should be about.
I do hope that you have a heart to heart with this gender non-conforming employee and his grandmother about the danger and Liability of accosting paying customers on your behalf.
