I had her class today and it was great, then I read her 1 bad review from Ted A. and had to respond: Information sticks in people's heads when the information is embedded in example stories. Stories from the instructor and from the experiences of the students. It's up to the student's if they want to share their experiences, it's not forced. Many students have worked a childcare profession for years and need to renew every 2 years. Which means they have stories of emergencies that happen to them and they can relate to the serious lessons being taught. I am sorry Ted A. with the one star review doesn't normally learn through conversation and other's experiences. It sounds like Ted wanted a straight forward list and then to leave. That's my guess. But, for me it was a 2.5 hour class and it was all encompassing. She covered all the material and she had added advice and stories to back up her lessons. For example, I needed my CPR cert because I am applying to be a Nanny. Since she asked me what job I needed the CPR cert for, she was able to give me advice about knowing for sure what addresses I am at in case I need to call 911, because she knows as a Nanny, I won't always be stationary. I am grateful she brought that to my attention and would recommend her class to anyone needing their CPR cert. She has a great attitude and is highly knowledgeable. Will probably go back in 2 years. read more

The main issue with the training was that while the instructor is friendly, the training consisted of too many intrusive personal questions, random unrelated stories and unsolicited advice. I found this distracting and did not feel comfortable being interviewed about my life as part of the training. A very small portion of the time was the actual training. I would not recommend this company. read more

I missed my CPR training and found Carrie online - she was a godsend, really. She taught each of us in the class (physician in training, nursing students and ski patrol) for our respected fields of study. For example, she pointed out to me that I would need to press the mask more on the face as I would most likely be dealing with snow. On top of that, she has top-of-the-line mannequins that, when I asked if my ski patrol study group could use for bandaging practice, she was 100% open to! Who does that?! This woman clearly is committed to helping the general public, period, and is not in it for anything but the greater good. I liked her straightforward approach and memory tricks that when I was tested on later, immediately popped to mind. Definitely will continue to revisit this academy. read more

I really enjoyed this class! My teacher, Carrie, taught efficiently and thoroughly. She made class interesting and comfortable with conversation. Another thing I really loved was her attention to each individual person's reason for taking the class. She gave us each tips for the environments we'd be using our skills in. It's also super easy to sign up online through the American Heart Association. Lots of available times and classes. read more

Wish I could give six stars. The medical field is blessed to have Carrie Walker as a CPR/First Aid instructor. I'm a student that's preparing to go into an LPN program and needed to refresh my BLS card.I took the online Heartsaver portion on AHA's website and went to go to class the next day. Carrie honestly told me that it wasn't the right class, but told me that she would help me in my situation and gave me the correct training without having me pay extra. She's incredibly patient, virtuous, dedicated, friendly, humorous, and engaging; by far the most interesting and fun BLS class I've ever taken. She seems to genuinely cares about every single individual that walks in and wants only the best for every single person. If you need/would like to learn more about CPR, I would highly recommend anyone to stop by. If you do, you're in for a wonderful treat. :) read more

I'm surprised that others have given this instructor such high marks. I've taken many CPR/AED/FA classes over the years, and I definitely can't recommend this one. The instructor was confusing, dismissive of questions, spent more time off-topic than on-topic, cited statistics inaccurately, and gave outdated, incorrect, or incomplete instruction on multiple topics. Although AED trainers were available, we weren't given the chance to use them. I took this class as part of a group, and all 5 of the people I talked to after the class felt the same way. As a former nursing student, we were required to go out and get our CPR/BLS card as part of the point system needed for our applications (or in my case as part of the many things to put on my resumé for UW's application. I got linked up to Carrie's organization here at Y-CPR Academy a few years back. Needless to say, Carrie was so easy to work with when doing the training. She's so friendly, engaging, understanding, and has the restore to WANT YOU to succeed. She's also very patient and makes sure you understand your role as a future HCP in the medical field. I've held onto her number and have even continued to make the drive to go see her when I've needed to renew my card because she has made this whole process a lot less stressful and only wants the best for you. I still remember a time that she catered to my needs in such a giving way. I'm barely 5ft and only weigh just under a buck, so pushing on the mannequins are HARD since I don't have a lot of weight to rely on...and her caring instinct automatically showed me a more effective way to do life-saving measures that worked for my small stature. I'd recommend her to anyone who needs a CPR card and are going into the healthcare field requiring it. She'll even give you her direct number to contact her AT ANY TIME should you have questions. My awesome new job as a Certified Medical Marijuana Consultant required CPR/AED certification. The owner of this new business wanted to do an online course to save time, with just a quick visit to some office to show what you learned on a dummy and to pick up the certificates. But I'm much more drawn to personal experiences when that option exists (I spend enough time on my computer!), and by choosing Y-CPR Academy, I got exactly the experience I would have wanted if someone had asked me to describe what I wanted. :) It was a very small class (6 students, including my boss and my boyfriend, so it was fun), and the 2-1/2 hours flew by while I learned lots information that I thought I knew, but didn't, or hadn't even thought of at all. We got to do chest compressions & attach AED pads to a dummy, which was much more difficult and detail-intensive than I thought it would be. And Carrie & the instructor could not have been friendlier, more fun, or more professional. It's extremely affordable with the very fair price of $47, and the classes are offered at very convenient times for the busy full-time worker. The best part of the class was when I learned that there would be no test! I'm confident that if I'm ever faced with a situation that might require some quick CPR action, I'll be able to recall the key pieces of information that I learned from Y-CPR Academy, mainly because it was such a pleasant experience. I can't recommend them enough. Don't waste your time trying to save time with an online course. That's no fun! read more
