So the mere concept of Gainesville once again having a Russian grocery store was very exciting to me. However, while I admire their spirit, the store is very small and the inventory--at least for now--is rather limited. I worry that they won't make it because they have a much smaller inventory than the "Europe" grocery that occupied two local locations prior to apparently going under. While Russian Food--as this store is plainly named--has some non-Russian Slavic foods, it's mostly Russian. Moreover, it's lacking on some expected Eastern European goods like high-quality Hungarian paprika. Its strength is on Russian candies and other sweets and they have a good selection of Russian loose-leaf teas, too, though they were lacking a brand I really wanted. Still, they only opened I think a month or two ago and while their space is small, maybe they'll get more goods in soon. The tea and chocolate I bought was good, too: fresh, authentic, and tasty. The grocery offers most everything you'd want from a pan-Middle Eastern grocer: dry goods, teas, frozen food, fragrant waters, syrups, canned goods, et cetera. They also have a good selection of baklava and other treats by the front counter worth checking out: they get different sweets in sometimes--always baklava but sometimes also namoura cake and other things. When they have sari burma it's normally excellent, so look for that as well. They also have a good spice selection and try to include a lot of Turkish and Persian speciality items as well (this include Turkish frozen goods and yes, the pudding mixes also). The restaurant portion is a buffet and they have a hot bar and cold bar. The hot bar has traditional Egyptian foods and was very good when I tried it while the cold bar has things that could also be taken away like hummus, salads, and babaganoush. You can get the hot bar to-go as well, but having things like hummus is a big deal because you can purchase enough to have on hand for the week. I hope the restaurant continues to work out for them: buffets only make money if they have a lot of customers, so I really hope the community supports this fine establish and wonderful people who own and run it.

They have fresh baked goods such as pita, sesame bagel (huge), cookies and starting after Thanksgiving from Fri.-Sun. their grill section is suppose to start offering hot foods like shawarma (like a stuffed pita pocket). Thru out the store are imported items (canned, jarred and packages) you would be hard pressed to find else where! I have bought fresh spinach pies, dried spices, dried bulgar wheat (for tabouli), cookies here. English is spoken but you may need to slow it down..lol (not louder)! They have expanded into other shops that had closed so they be getting a following! It seems there are regulars who come and they speak their native language which is cool as far as I'm concerned!

I'm surprised the owners are sleeping on such an easy revenue stream: the broth bags go next to the hot pot meat, maybe above them. Then you grab meat, broth, and pop over to produce to grab your veggie pack. Dinner is basically done, or in your back pocket. H-mart and Tokyo Central both have almost that exact setup. Overall though, pretty good spot for Korean or Indian supplies. The checkout lady was kind of rude. Her friend wasn't done bagging our groceries and she went ahead and started the next person, so their groceries were flowing right down to ours. Just wait the 1 minute for the current customer's transaction to actually be finished, they will leave I promise.

You really have to come and check it out yourself. Walk slowly, read the labels, have a good time. It is very busy in the afternoon, so I suggest the mornings, if you can. Also, some products don't have English on them, but iPhones have (not sure about other cell phones) an easy translation method. Just take a picture of the text, highlight it, and choose "translate"!
