They serve great pizza, calzone and wings. We dropped by on the way to Vancouver from Kelowna. This place came highly recommended from a friend, who grew up in Merritt. It was a great experience to have pizza straight from the oven and dine in an outdoor, picnic-style setting. The establishment beside the Yaki Jones's Puzza is a heritage home, and a visitor center that's run by the city, which provides a free picnic area for visitors. They even serve free lemonades for the kids. I think this place is a must try, when you're in Merritt. read more

Ordered a 3 topping Large with mushrooms, onion and Italian Sausage. Decent price at $15.00. Too bad the pizza didn't have much flavor. Even the Red sauce was bland. Interesting place was recommended there by a friend from our city. Does mainly take out and we got calzones and sandwiches vs the pizza. From someone who doesn't care for it. It was very enjoyable. Long wait. 20mins maybe. The classic calzone for a traditional taste. Very mild flavour profile. The tank sandwich and the meatball calzone for the tomato and meat forward flavours. After a long day of driving I heard this place was one of the best in town so I put in a order for delivery. I was told it was going to be a 1.5 hr wait which wasn't ideal but I was in the mood for pizza. 1.5 hr goes by and no food so I called in. By this time it's 8:30 pm and they tell me that it's the next order to go into the oven and that it's going to be another 1/2hr. I asked to cancel my order and all the guy on the phone said was "sorry bout that" in a who cares way and immediately hung up so crappy service gets a crappy review. read more

Travelling from Okanagan to Vancouver, normally I go to the gas station district where all the highways converge near the northeast side of Merritt. Anyhow. we wound up downtown Merritt looking for a Subway and found the Subway with this "Gourmet Pizza and Sub" place next door. I ordered a Subway sub, my wife ordered a Tropical Chicken (chicken, bacon, pineapple and white pizza sauce) personal sized pizza for $9. We gobbled down the pizza and ordered a second one it was surprisingly good! Pizza is pizza, but these guys are a cut about the rest, a decent amount of topping, especially when you factor in the decent price. Oh yeah, my Subway sub wound up riding with us the rest of the way on the floor. Will definitely be back everytime we travel through Merritt. UPDATE: * (one star) May 2017 got served by a lady who made the pizza ultra skimpy. Crappier than a grocery store DIY discount box pizza. Pissed me right off. I wish I could give this place no stars. My girlfriend and I stopped in town for the night, and after a long day of driving...nothing sounded better than delivery. We ordered a salad and a meatball sub (requested extra marinara on the sub) to share, and after the delivery fee, the bill was $20. A little pricey for what we ordered, but we hoped it would be worth it... It wasn't. After a pretty long wait, a rude and indignant delivery guy showed up at our hotel, and was mad that I wanted to pay with a card. Starving, we open our food to find a tiny salad and a miserable looking sub. We asked for extra sauce, and we got almost none. Beyond the almost complete absence of sauce, the meatballs were brutally dry, the cheese some weird congealed mess, and the bread was both burnt and soggy at the same time. It was so bad we tossed it in the trash after just a few bites. Normally I am not one to call and complain, but something had to be said about this experience. I called in and spoke with the manager, who said she didn't know how to do refunds, and that if I wanted my money back, that I would have to make it to the restaurant in the next 10 minutes, or wait until after 1130 the following day. I don't know where the good reviews came from, but I'm assuming they are by employees or friends. Horrible food, unhelpful staff, waste of money. A little advice... If you're hungry and want to eat here, you are better off lighting 20 dollars on fire, then rummaging through the dumpster behind McDonald's. read more

Girlfriend picked up a Pizza and a Calzone to go...Calzone was "Meat Lovers"...more like "Meatless Loser"...disgustingly cheap amount of toppings. The foods great! However... it can take a while. Let me illustrate this with a short narrative. Enjoy my fellow calzone lovers. You can order a gyro - classic butter chicken donair combo. You get piss drunk at the empty keg with your lads. What a night! You laugh and catch up, drinking over 10 pints each. , go home, sleep, wake - what a hangover! You enjoy the rest of the weekend and head home, back to work, that sucks. Go on a tinder date weeks later that leads to a loving relationship. You propose on a beach. She says yes! You spend the next five years making a life, buying a house, settling in. She lost her job at the marketing firm due to the recession. She gets on the booze hard, yet your love is strong. She does rehab and together you overcome this. She studied for a CPA and gets a job at a law firm doing their books. You decide the time is right to have kids. You try for a year and succeed! Ten years later you are teaching your son how to tie flies, patting him on the head, looking at your twin girls running in the backyard. You look your wife in the eyes "we finally made it". The years wear on, your career at the mill takes you through a number of increasing positions of responsibility, you build equity and eventually buy into the company. Your adult son is drafted into the army and is injured by an IED in Afghanistan. He finds a wonderful woman at the VA and starts his own life. Your daughters also find a set of twins that they date. Your dog, old yeller , is at your side on every fishing trip you take your family on. You sign, contended that everything worked out, despite the odds. The diagnosis was unexpected, your wife passed so quickly. As you fade into old age, your kids visit less and less. Dementia ridden and scared, you are checked into an old folks home and slowly fade into obscurity. Your funeral is well attended, old friends, your adult kids and their families, advanced in their years now too. Someone tells a story about old yeller and the time down at Lake Winnichako. They have a toast in your honour, gin, your favourite drink. They casket bearers lower you into the ground, and later that evening the graveyard shift covers your coffin in the earth of your birthplace. You may rest now. The following evening, a hoar frost clings to the tombstone. "Here lies a father, husband and a giver to the community". A hand, scarred as only a line cooks can be, reaches down to place a bouquet of flowers. Beside this the young cook places your order, carefully folding the wrapping over the still hot donair. One of the best pizza places it has ever been my pleasure to salivate about. Yaki's is a local institution; deservedly so. I've only had the pizzas and calzones, but when I lived here, I got a lot of them. Today I was visiting from out of town and called from the highway to take out a pair of Super Dave Phillys. I was told they were out of turkey, but when I asked if they could make it with chicken, I was advised that they only had breast meat, which was fine with me. They were spectacular as always. I was surprised to see a pizza and sub place right next door to a Subway restaurant. I wondered how they survived. Well, I always prefer the mom & pop places over multinational chains so I gave it a try. Wow! The food is so good!! My son had a kids' size pepperoni and bacon calzone and I had a large Greek chicken sundried tomato and pesto calzone. Both of ours were enormous and FULL of great ingredients. Took a little extra time to make them, but as I watched them work, it became apparent why things took a bit longer there. The woman who assembled our calzones was also mixing dough using scratch ingredients. The bathrooms were immaculate and the restaurant was very clean. When it arrived, the calzones were amazing. Juicy and full (I mean FULL) of high quality ingredients. The only reason I didn't give this place a full 5 stars is because they had wifi but not available for customers. This may not be a big deal but, when you think about the fully-justified longer wait times, it would be very easy (and should be obvious) that sharing a wifi password with patrons is an easy (and cost free) way to help us be more patient. Again, 5-stars for flavor, quality, and service. C'mon guys... add the wifi and get a 100% score. ;-) Seriously though, give this place a try. You'll be glad you did. read more

We were overnight in Merritt in a hotel next door to Boston Pizza but we were with our dog, who was agitated about being in a strange place. So, instead of going out, we called next door to Boston. Incredibly, on a weekend in mid-July (high tourist season), they weren't delivering (!) ... So we went for the next one on the web. Yaki Joe's. I like pizza in the restaurant, but avoid it for takeout, because it always turns out cardboard-y or cold. This was possibly the finest pizza I've ever eaten.
