From previous visits found the food average, prices were also average. Other than one or two waitresses service is average. Today was special. No hostess to greet us, but as well not one staff member made any attempt to acknowledge anyone or let people know how long a wait it was going to be or anything. We dropped by for an easy dinner as we were staying next door. Cream pies on special for $3.99! We got the lemon meringue and it was pretty darn good, with the exception of the crust which was a bit soggy and watery (maybe it had been sitting all day and would be better in the morning)? I got the Kentucky beef melt with jalapenos on the side with a side of clam chowder. Both the chowder and the beef melt were pretty good. The sweetness from the bourbon sauce really shone through and I was happy with the portions (not overly filling). Our server (Shane I think) came by regularly to top up drinks and checked in on us. I keep trying to give this restaurant a chance because my family and I absolutely loved it 8 years ago. But every location seems to disappoint. I would say go for pie and nothing else. Fries were undercooked in old stale oil. My bbq chicken burger was an absolute sloppy mess. The bun was so soggy and the flavour was just not good. Waitress never even asked if we wanted a refill of our fountain pops and they were almost 8.00 for two! That's an absolute joke. Won't be giving them anymore chances. It's a shame. read more

I ordered the senior breakfast it was perfect. I asked for honey for the toast and they had it. I asked for Water to go. And they had it. Hubby ordered the ham and eggs and it was real ham two slices and he loved every bite. Homemade pies looked wonderful. We did not try them, but I'm sure y'all can try next time. If you are driving by or need some decent food than Fast food Check this place out in Hope! Ordered for take out, friendly service when making the call and picking up the food. The ambiance inside the restaurant is family friendly and looked like a local favourite restaurant! We ordered: * Braised Beef Dip Sandwich (recommend) $18.70 Subbed with a Clam Chowder $1 Extra (recommend) * Clubhouse sandwich $19 Subbed with a Poutine Extra $3.50 * Strawberry Peach Pie Slice $6.29 I loved the flavours of the Braised beef dip sandwich, the au jus was delicious and very flavourful with a nice buttered bun. The clam chowder was creamy and tasty and I like how they gave some crackers. As for the turkey club nothing to special about the deli turkey meat, was quite dry over sour dough thin bread. The poutine is new York style russet cut potatoes but they barely added any cheese curds, so I wouldn't recommend to order these but friendly service and not to bad food. As for the strawberry peach pie, wasn't to sour but fresh. Probably wouldn't get that flavour again and I'll try the apple pie but flaky crust! Overall, Would come back to try other food! read more

Home Restaurant - the name says it all, it is the type of food you will get from your Mom or Grandma! After diving in from Vancouver, we decided to get a simple meal before going back to the hotel. Ordered their Home Style Clam Chowder & two dinner entrees and both were done very well: Hunter Chicken : Breast of Chicken Pan Fried and topped with Mushrooms and Gravy, the chicken was tender and still juicy inside without being dried out. The mushroom slices mixed with the gravy made the chicken even more tasty! A fan of Beef or Calf's Liver, this is a dish I would automatically order if its on the menu. I am glad I did, the portion is HUGE, it came with 2 very big slices of liver, bacon and fried onion! The liver was drenched in flour before pan fried, it has a very rich flavour only fans of this dish would appreciate, both slices of liver were very tender without being over cooked and become rubbery. The gravy and the bacon is what makes this dish, and they both delivered. Love the crispy bacon! This is a no-nonsense kind of restaurant, all the servers are friendly and fast, this would be a good stop over for anyone who wants to have a family style meal while travelling on the highway! read more

Had a quick lunch at this place over the long weekend and our experienced was good. The restaurant was busy but we were able to sit right away from the table with drippings/leaking from the roof. We were not happy with the overall service and experienced but the food we ordered was really good, I love the freshness of the Club Sandwich and Clam Chowder soup was a winner. read more

I used to love going here as a kid... what happened? I visited the Merritt location this Thanksgiving weekend. The service... not good, until we were paying the bill of course, which I notice so often, time to tip? Time to bring on the charm at last. The food was awful. We had a BLT with fries and a cup of White Clam Chowder. BLT was nothing special, I can make it better myself. The fries were actually awful. How do you mess up fries? The chowder was horrible, not edible at all, we left it untouched and of course the server never even acknowledged that. The only good thing was the lemon meringue pie that we got to-go. Very good food, service is fairly fast, and the staff is extremely friendly. If you are in the hotel, definitely check it out for your discounted breakfast, but they do a great job with other meals as well. My friends and I often spend a good long while here after a game of golf, and we are never dissatisfied. The prices may unfortunately be a little high for some. read more

Back in June and July I was here doing some rally stuff. And what do rally guys who do rally stuff eat? Well, they eat at Home of course! Same meal as the other location in Hope BC but here, they don't offer you soya sauce with your Schnitzel. You just get loads and loads of artery cloggin fried meat and gravy!!! Yummy, for the tummy but bad bad bad for the heart. Which I have recently come to learn of late that eating at home isn't always healthy for you. But if you are more healthy concious you can order the salad or the veggie burger or sub out the fries with veggies. There are options here. read more

If you've ever road tripped through southern British Columbia and not stopped in at a Home Restaurant then you're not doing it right! Large portions and overall great food. Over the years I've had the spaghetti, sandwiches, liver and onions, eggs, you name it. This trip I had the Schnitzel Champignon with mashed potatoes... win! Speaking of liver and onions though, they're one of the only places outside of a handful of pubs around that consistently have this on the menu at all locations. Liver and onions fans will understand this, it's seriously so hard to come by! They're also known for their pies. They're big slices, they have six kinds, always great. I've stopped in at the Merritt Home Restaurant and only ordered pie. Sometimes it's just enough to get me on to my next destination. Ultimately, stop in, you won't regret it! read more

I don't set out not to like places, really I don't. I was looking forward to going to Home restaurant, having heard from many a roadtripper how they made it their regular pitstop in Hope, yada yada yada. When we entered the one in Merritt, we were greeted by Ms. Monotone, who loped off through the restaurant when taking us to our table, and then before we even sat down wanted to take the drink order. I said "Coke?" she mumbled "Pepsi" my husband asked me "Pepsi?" because I hadn't heard the low-talking, and before I could reply, she drifted off like a fart in the wind, only to bring back two Pepsis, both of which were flat and watery. Even though she mumbled she was fairly screaming "I hate my job." Fortunately, our server seemed a little more with it than the hostess. Still I had hope for some rib-sticking eats after perusing a menu with selctions like burgers, bangers and mash, milkshakes, pie, bacon n' eggs, and a seniors' menu too. You gotta love a restaurant where you can order a pot roast! But as homemade and heartwarming as all that sounded, my food (chicken fingers and fries, don't judge me) tasted like it came out of a box. On the upside, the husband's milkshake was not bad, not bad at all. But I had to get out of there as soon as possible, because eating here was just bad roadtrip juju. While leaving from Kelowna vacay We missed to take left lane turn to go to Mac Donald's and pick up our tea and breakfast and were too lazy to take a u turn and just wanted to keep going to get Home. Both of us - me and my hubby just couldn't think of any place to stop before hope. I drive was going just fine till our stomach and soul needed food. Handy yelp gave me couple of options just included usual macdonals and we choose 'Home'. So glad we did, our breakfast was outstandingly amazing and needless to mention delicious. First time in a long time I had clam chowder without pork which reminds of England and true authentic one where they dnt use pork in it. My cube potatoes was perfectly cooked too. The cauliflower on the meatloaf dish was extremely overcooked. The spinach was rubbery and tasted like it was at least 2 weeks old. Stayed at adjacent Super8 hotel with a work crew. Went to the Home restaurant for dinner one night, ordered the special that evening which was a spinach lasagna... Back in the hotel room, within an hour I was feeling stomach cramps and nausea. An hour after that I vomiting relentlessly. This continued from roughly 9pm to 4am, leaving me unable to leave the room or work the next day. Then I am told a second guy on our crew had to return from work that same night, as he was so sick he was unable to finish his night shift and had to drive to the hospital. He also are there, and yep, had the spinach lasagna... 5 days later and we are both still feeling the effects. With recurring nausea, loss of appetite, and diarrhea. Will never eat at any of their locations again, and will simply be happy to recover from this HORRIBLE experience with my guts somewhat intact. read more

The fires are awful, they are cold and mushy, unless you count the burnt crispy ones, they are kind of a grey old color and smell as if they have been using the same oil to fry them in for a month. It was a little late in the day for me to have coffee, but I bet that would have been good too! This restaurant has one of the best breakfast menus. I had an early supper. I ordered the "Jack and Mushroom Burger" since their lunch/supper menu's breakfast options were uninteresting. Very busy restaurant tonight. Hockey teams in town. We waited and waited and waited in this super noisy place! When I finally asked the waitress who took our order what was up, she came back defensive, making excuses, even trying to argue! Really??? Stopped here for an early dinner tonite. Fabulous friendly servers, great great superb service and the food was fantastic. Nice selection of food choices, but I ordered a burger which was massive with fresh hot crisp fries. Hubby had liver & onions which was also very good with mashed potatoes. Coffee was fresh & cups stayed full. Previous reviews made me want to skip this one, but it was the most convenient for us, so we gave it a try. Very glad we did.
