    Welcome to Yale
    Anrana S.

Stopped in to take a campus tour. As of December 218, tours are at 1:30 AM and 2:00 PM daily. You first watch a video. Then your tour guide shows up. You walk around the campus seeing a lot of what you saw in the video. You see the Freshman quad, a residential college, the classroom quad, Sterling library, the rare book library, and then end at the bookstore. You get a 15% discount in the bookstore by mentioning that you took a campus tour. Spencer was our tour guide. He was fabulous. He obviously loves Yale and made me love Yale too!

Ok...I really don't know where exactly this is, but if you are going north toward Bear Mountain on…read morethe Palisades Interstate Parkway (if you cross the GWB go towards NJ and you'll see a sign toward the PIP..you'll start at exit 2 so keep goin!), you cannot miss this sign. Its the only "visitor center" posted on some wood or something on that parkway. I know I shouldn't share this with random readers, but I have to explain it for you guys to understand why I reviewed it. I have a weird thing for rest stops and 24/7 gas stations no matter where it is. I have no idea why. Maybe its b/c time seems to fall back at rest stops, or the fact that you stop there in transit and it becomes a community of drivers in one, creepy location. Whatever the reason, I love stopping at these places. So anyone as odd as myself, I had to share. Okay this is no ordinary rest stop. First, if you need to use the john don't bother going here b/c they have port-a-pottys and they do not smell "potty". This is for the sheer enjoyment of going to a random linkin log place in the middle of Rockland County, and saying "hey, I could use a shiny rock." Also, this place closes early. I think 6. Alright so there is the most RANDOM load of fun filled crap here. It's like a local street fair from 1987 threw up here and nobody bothered to clean it up. Finger traps, rock shiners, an assortment of rocks, camoflage toilet paper on a ROLL, candy that belongs in a museum..It's awesome here. It's bizarre and so creepy, but it was friggin super. I think I even bought a couple of rocks (I'm a science nut; what do you want from me?). Anyway, everytime I pass that place I feel like I'm hitting the twilight zone because it sure as hell isn't 2007 over at that joint. CHECK IT OUT!!!!!!

I didn't throw the dart which always brings me places, I wanted to be sure I was in the mountains, we went North East topside of the Catskills, we wanted to walk Washington Irving's books takes, to see the greens from Douglas Fir to mighty oaks, the silvertip mountain tops and the changing of the leaves. Inside the visitors center, there was Rip, staff in hand, hand me down galligasketts, good natured smile and his walking stick -- there to greet as were Heather and Nancy. Taking bowls of fresh water to the big dog who slipped down like a ranch horse nose deep in the trough they doted upon him, giving love with meaningful strokes and words of tenderness - the big mush was loving it so. Spinny spinny spinny, they spun the brochure carousel like a spinning top, plucking out appropriate endeavors for me. Clicking the pen and put to paper, they wrote and edited to reflect current days and times and where it's shaking out come the weekend. As many miles big road hound and I have traveled, to where the road never ends, these two fine ladies were the watermark set above and beyond all prior - to be sure.

Turns out, it was the home of 26th President, Theodore Roosevelt, from 1885 until his death in 1919. The house and its surrounding farmland became the primary residence of Theodore and Edith Roosevelt for the rest of their lives. Sagamore Hill became known as the "Summer White House" during the seven summers (1902-1908) Roosevelt spent there as President. Turns out, Sagamore Hill is also an animal preserve, too. "Teddy," being quite the lover of animals, stated that forever and ever, animals are ALWAYS welcome on his 83 acres of property. Yours, mine, anybody's. FOREVER. That is a really cool thing. Sadly, we arrived after 5 p.m., so the buildings were closed, but there were plenty of things to see outdoors. Beautiful, well kept grounds. Next time I'm in town, especially if my husband is around, we'll return, and maybe within the hours to see the interior of his house. Too bad our little doggies won't be. They'd love it here !!

There are also domestic turkeys poking around... and those suckers sure can run if you try to chase them, which we did... all in all a pretty fun day!
