I've always thought Yalla's offerings were tasty, but now that I've actually been to Israel, I like them even more now that I know they're also authentic! A bit of their falafel, salatim, or fried eggplant here tastes just like the street food I ordered in Jerusalem. Yum! I appreciate that they've simplified their menu since opening, and now you basically pick your protein (falafel, chicken shwarma, lamb kabob, minute steak, etc) and your preparation (pita, laffa flatbread, or bowl) and the various toppings that go best with that protein are pre-selected and detailed on the menu for you. The bowl option is my favorite, because then I can convince myself my meal is low carb and thus healthy (please don't try and persuade me with the facts!). The lamb kabob is very flavorful, but it is actually ground lamb formed into balls rather than chunks of "whole" meat. My favorite bowl filling is the falafel, particularly with some extra fried eggplant on the side. Yalla is a little pricey, like all things inside of Krog, but still a good value when you look at the taste, quantity, and quality of the food. read more

My fiance and I frequent Yalla and is my go to when I am at Krog Market. I have had Shwarma all over Israel and this is the closest in U.S I have tasted to match the flavor profile of the stalls in Israel. Being a food stall they are very fast and everything is always fresh with amazing Israeli flavors. A little pro tip for those who have never been or want to try a little different spin, get the shwarma or shuuk bowl with a side of a laffa. A late night dinner at Yalla, thanks to raving Yelp reviews, had me excited. But, all it did was test my patience. After waiting over a half hour in a line when I literally only had 10 people in front of me was really irritating. The only reason why I stayed in line was because of the power of the Yelpers. haha The menu is up for all to see, but there's no description on the board. That meant the employees had to describe every item they offered to the customers. I mean literally every sauce, side, etc was explained. Maybe that's why it took so long? It was ridiculous. When I finally made it through to the end of the line, I saw there were menus that described their dishes....I seriously wanted to scream. There needs to be a better system! I ordered the Falafel Bowl. I love me some falafel and this was good falafel, but not the best I've ever had. I really enjoyed the falafel with their yogurt sauce, hummus and their jalapeno/ cilantro sauce. Other than the sauces, I basically got everything else they offered. Marinated mushrooms, cabbage, pickles, peppers, etc. And they weren't bad, but I don't see myself craving it again in the near future. The awesome thing about Yalla is that it offers speciality house-made sodas. I got the Lavender Lemon soda and it was good and refreshing. The prices are pretty inexpensive. Not my first pick in Krog, but wow. The foods good, the food is expensive, the service is friendly, and the handcrafted sodas are love. As far as quality, I think they at least don't skimp on flavor and quality. Portions are also pretty big. I've tried the falafel bowl and have also carried a laffa from krog to midtown via taxi and on foot... kinda a mistake (It wasn't even an order for myself). I didn't realize this thing weights the same as a small baby. By the end of the journey my arm actually was aching. The food is middle eastern food. You basically go at it Chipotle style and you pick a bowl or a laffa/burrito looking thing and a protein then a bunch of veggies, sauces, marinated veggies, or meats. They also have premade choices/combinations they've deemed super tasty themselves. My favorite thing is the marinated eggplant and the food is really refreshing and fresh. Most of what I got with mine was the vegetables and didn't really bother with the meat but I was told the shawarma laffa I picked up was very good. One of the things I come here most for is the handmade sodas though. I'm not entirely sure if it's something Yalla does or just has an independent offering/partnership because I've seen the lovely lady who makes the sodas at the Grant Park farmer's market selling sodas a few times unrelated to Yalla. Regardless, sooo good and so worth the money. I'm not really into drinking soda anymore so it's extremely rare treat for me, however, these handmade concoctions are soda water and handmade syrups garnished with lemon/limes/oranges and fragrant herbs. The sodas are also not super carbonated so if you like that fizzle against your tongue then it might be weak, but I don't really mind, it's enough fizzle for me and I am not a fan of flat sodas. Flavor isn't overly sweet too and each one is really unique. They often seem to change it up with whatever is available or seasonal. If you're looking for something more substantial in the Krog Market definitely give Yalla a look, the bowls are huge and so are the burrito looking things (laffa--expensive but really good) and so, so tasty. read more

This place needs a lot of help if it is going to survive. My takeaway from this place was this: "Overpriced, marginal food with TERRIBLE service." Seriously, I waited 30 minutes to get food. During this time I watched Todd Ginsberg flail about in the back kitchen, completely unaware of the mess of his Front of House. There were multiple problems in the process at Yalla: 1. The girl taking orders also occasional started serving food, thus slowing down the process because orders weren't being taken. 2. Why do you have to individually cook the shawarma in a pan? It's already cooked on the spit and hot. This slowed orders down. 3. The menu did not explain what items were, or what combos were. Slowing down the process of ordering greatly. 4. There was no automation to creating the meals. The employees were stepping all over each other, unsure who they needed to serve, and I watched several mistakes be made. This place is WAY overpriced. The "Platter" was actually a tiny bowl with not much food for $15. The quality of the food is okay, but in no way merits the price or inconvenience of getting it. My lunch mates were a bit happier as one is a big fan of pickled veggies and the other had a chicken sandwich he enjoyed to some degree. Excellent shawarma laffa. Large, tasty, and filling. Yalla is amidst of a bunch of tasty food options in Krog Street Market - located in between Fred's Meat and Bread and down the hallway from Jeni's. "Todd's Shawarma" laffa is basically a super-size flatbread wrap filled with well marinated meat, vegetables, and delicious sauces. You can also put kebab, falafel, or vegetables on your laffa instead of shawarma. I also ordered another special called "Layla's Falafel Bowl". The falafels themselves were very good. Each piece was crispy, but soft in the inside, as falafels should be. The platter came with hummus and a bunch of vegetables. The vegetables were fresh and the hummus was creamy. In my opinion, the dish could have been optimized more with a slightly different set of vegetables or toppings. Still good though. I just liked the shawarma laffa a little better than the falafel bowl. This is a nice addition to the large assortment of Mediterranean restaurants in Atlanta. Went on a date with a guy who is new to Atlanta. I suggested KSM and PCM as options to meet up for lunch. As we walked around, we were both most interested in Yalla. There was no line when we were ready to order. In contrast, there were lines at quite a few other places. I picked up the minute steak laffa. Comes with ribeye, hummus, israeli salad, fried eggplant, sumac onions, zhug, tahini. I was hesitant to get a laffa because it is so big, but the wrap looked so very good and I figured I could always eat the rest later in the day if I didn't finish. He ordered the lamb kebab laffa. Comes baba ganoush, israeli salad, fried eggplant, zhug, ranch labne. What is it with the fried eggplant? Almost all the wraps had it. Is that a usually thing? Not from what I've seen. The steak wrap is much thicker than the lamb wrap. If you want more food, get the steak. The cashier said that the shwarma is the most popular wrap fyi, but her fave was the steak. That's what helped solidify my choice. The steak laffa was really good. The laffa wrap is so tasty. Nice hummus. And the eggplant was pretty good, too! It was a bit oily. I couldn't finish up the wrap so I ended up eating some of the insides with a fork. There was no way I could take the rest home. It seemed all the grease would settle at the bottom and it would be a mess to eat later. The lamb laffa was OK. I much preferred mine. I think the hummus made a big difference. We got the Shawarma bowl and the Fafafel pita, but they erred and served it a bowl, but did give us two pitas on the side. Not sure if you can get 'simpler' dishes to get their falafel in pita with a side of something, but beware unless you really like spicy chipped up pickles, get whatever you order without them because they over power the dish and there is so much crap piled into the bowl, you can't hardly even get to their hummus which is actually really good. They don't serve any pita's with their bowls so you basically are eating it all in one scoop of pickle, falafel or shawarma and other unknown addins with a little bit of hummus you scoop of the bottom of the bowl. If you get the wrap it is all in one giant two handed roll. The shawarma was very salty. At first I thought it was the yellow salty spicy mustard ilke sauce they put all ove r the top, but then eating it separate, decided it was the meat that was salty and the pickles that were the spicy. The olive dish is really 1/3 sliced pickles, 1/3 variety pitted olives, and 1/3 pickled okra and two slices of pickled tomatoes for $6. The Baba ganoush was very good. The falafels in and of themselves were good. I'm sure you can get things special order with just falafels and hummus or something, but as our first time, we went with the standard menu option thinking the owner would know the best way to present their lovingly prepared food. read more

I'm a regular and got sick here last night. Be careful now that it is under new ownership. Since the owners changed, the staff is horribly rude (except for two gentlemen named Justin) and the falafel recipe is different. It now contains MSG in it, which I am allergic to. I've been eating at Fred's Yalla for years. Now things are completely different and it's more fast-food like. We went with a large group of regulars and we all swore we'd never go back again. First, we paid and dealt with the friendly gentleman at the register. Then, a woman started making our orders and complained that one of use asked her to hold the yogurt due to lactose intolerance. She complained about us under her breath in Spanish that we wanted a customized order, but all we wanted was one thing omitted from one wrap. I've never been dissatisfied with my experience/meal, but I do think it's sometimes difficult to order and figure out what everything is. The employees have always been helpful making sure that my meal remains dairy-free. Just tried Yalla for the first time the other day and I don't know how I haven't tried it sooner. I love Mediterranean food and this did not disappoint. Their falafel bowl was absolutely amazing. I tried Yalla on my first visit to Krog Street Market, and the food was fresh and delicious. I had the falafel bowl with hummus, israeli salad, and a handful of spices. The hummus was really tasty, and they didn't go overboard on the tahini like the store bought kind. The falafels were super crispy on the outside, but flavorful and light in the middle. I also tried one of the laffa wraps with shwarma, onions, hummus, and a few other fillings. The laffa bread was awesome and WAY more food than you could eat in one sitting. As the other reviews mention, I gave Yalla 4 stars simply because the service was SO slow. We waited more than 30 minutes to get through the line. Granted, it was a Saturday afternoon and Krog Street Market was crowded, but there's no reason their assembly line operation should move so slowly. They only offer a handful of items and seemed to have more than enough hands on deck. I'll definitely be back for seconds, but maybe during a less-peak time until they get the service going a bit faster. I'm a falafel snob. I have had the best of the best on the streets of Israel, and this stands up to the best. I got the falafel bowl which is filled with Israeli salad, hummus, this yummy green pesto stuff, pickles and more! The flavor was amazing and the portion was huge. I would fully endorse this place for a great Option if you are looking to expand your food horizons. There shawarma was absolutely delicious. The meat was perfectly tender, the seasoning was done well and the use of segmented the food in the bowl added a great aesthetic to the dish that I loved. After mixing the food in my bowl I was pleasantly surprised by pops of flavor in bite. They also have delicious specialty lemonades, and would encourage you to try it as it goes well with the rest of the dish. My girlfriend is a vegetarian so I love the fact they have great vegetarian, gluten free and vegan options. Mediterranean food isn't something I normally crave but I go out of my way to eat Yalla! This is my go-to if I am anywhere near Krog Street Market!! Food: The Israeli/Mediterranean fast-ish-food joint is delicious!! Each plate is like a paint pallet, colorful, with a variety of flavors to match it. I got the shouk and it was amazing!! But warning, the dark orange part is really spicy so either avoid it or ask to have it without the spicy stuff. It ranges from $11-$14 and is absolutely worth it. They give you plenty to eat- sufficient portion for my husband and enough for me that I can eat half and save the other half for later. Drinks: Yes, drinks. They sodas are delicious and so worth the $3!! I always get the Elder Flower Rose Lemonade. It literally tastes like flowers and they put a little flower on top :) I go out of my way just to get a drink here, not even food sometimes. There's also a licorice-tasting one that is good if you like licorice. You must get a soda if you go here! Staff is friendly and fast. This is the place to go if you're at Krog Street Market! This place was just okay to me. I didn't find the food all that amazing. I ordered the Sabich Bowl, which came with: hummus, fried eggplant, boiled eggs, and a few other ingredients. The bowl definitely left a lot to be desired. It lacked a lot of flavor to me. The presentation of my bowl made the food seem like it would taste amazing. But sadly, the food looked better than it tasted! However, the ingredients used all tasted very fresh, and that to me is a big deal. I would come back to this place, but I would definitely order something different. One of my co-workers had the Falafel, and it looked so good! I may try that if I decide to come back. We went to Yalla with our pals on Friday afternoon for lunch. They really love this place and we wanted to love it too, but as Israelis, we found it to be only OK. The first thing that annoyed us was confusion about ordering. One of us got the Sabich, which of course only ever comes as a sandwich, but since they have various options here (laffa, bowl, or sandwich), the woman had to redo the order when it was clarified that we did indeed want it as a traditional sandwich. So if a customer just says "Sabich", then why doesn't the cashier ask "laffa, sandwich, or bowl?" They just presume that you want the bowl because it's the most expensive? Customer service, please. We also got the salatim bowl. The sabich was great--nice pita, lots of textures and flavors. Kudos. The salatim bowl, while a really generous portion with a ton of veggies in it, was a bit bland. Most of the items were just hanging out in some vinegar before finding their way to the plate, and the dressings for the salatim themselves lacked vim. It did taste fresh. We'd be pretty surprised if Yalla was run by actual Israelis because the flavors just lacked the je ne sais quai that someone from the Motherland would know how to execute. It's more like this is a Mediterranean-themed stall that wants to serve Atlantans healthy food for a decent price. And that they do well. Side note: Krog Street Market is awesome! I tried Yalla last weekend and loved it. It my first time visiting Krog Street Market since it's been officially opened, too. What an awesome place and Yalla is a wonderful addition. My partner and I arrived around 4:05 and were kinda bummed to find that they close from 4 to 5 because we were hungry, but luckily Hop City was open and it's easy to kill an hour drinking a beer. When Yalla re-opened, the line was about 15 people long. Luckily we were in the front of it. The menu was a bit confusing to me at first so I asked a couple of questions and learned that you pay for either a bowl, laffa (flatbread), or pita and the price varies based on your meat choice, or lack thereof. I opted for a falafel yalla (say that 5x fast) and went down the line and the was asked what kind of toppings I wanted. Everything you add is included in the base price- so pile it on! I added hummus, red cabbage, sweet potato, broccoli, olives and probably some other delectables I cant recall. The end result was a massive rolled up flat bread that I had to eat with two hands. Yum! I also ordered a side of hummus, which was a huge portion that I didn't need. The laffa was more than enough. But, I have a hard time passing on hummus. Since I had already had beer- I skipped the handmade sodas that I have read so much about. I will have to save that experience for next time. I will definitely return to Yalla and I have to give them props for having a menu that also caters to non meat eaters. The other options in the market aren't so veggie friendly. Yalla is one of the best values in Krog Street Market, as the prices are reasonable, food is delicious, and portions are large. I see people ordering the slightly more expensive, larger portioned laffas (like a greek burrito) all the time - but for me the pita plus a side is usually plenty of food. Basically you can think of this place as a Greek Moe's, although the quality of food and flavor is far above Moe's. I'm a big fan of the falafel pita here. The bowls are also good - they coat the bottom of the bowl in baba ganoush and hummus, then load in the veggies and meat, so you have a nice mix as you eat. The line here goes fast and the food comes out quickly. This is one of my go-to spots in Krog Street Market. Definitely check it out. read more

One word: falafelaffa. (Okay, so it's not a word, but that's how I ordered during my last visit.) The falafel laffa is the way to go for a girl like me. For starters, they form and deep fry the falafels when you order, so there's no chance you're getting stale falafel. Additionally, you can customize your laffa (which ends up being a big ole happy Mediterranean burrito by the time you're done) with loads of fresh accoutrements. Hummus, check. Baba ghanoush, check. Other pickles, veggies, sauces, and slathers will fortify your selection and elevate your laffa to near perfection. The setup is very much like a chain burrito restaurant, wherein choices are offered as you scoot down the make line with your eyes fixed on your food. I really like the way they do things. Kinks are being worked out, and it seemed to go much more smoothly on our second visit. Notably, the house mixed sodas are to DIE for. Pick one, it will blow your mind and fill your heart with joy (or something like that). Plus, Yalla, like neighbor Fred's, is a Todd Ginsberg concept, so you know it's been thought through and has staying power. 3.5 stars. This ended up being a #YEFit2015 review for me not on purpose. I was having a healthy day and I didn't want to ruin it (yet) so as I was walking around Krog Street Market I looked for something healthy to eat. I found myself at Yalla eye-ing down the Salatim bowl which is a seasonal entree with chef's choice of vegetables. I am not sure all the vegetables that came on my bowl, but my favorites were the beets and radishes. I don't even usually like radishes, but they were so good in this bowl. The onions and tomatoes tasted really lemon-y fresh also. However, some of the vegetables in the top left corner of the picture had a weird after-taste to me. I'm not sure if it was a vinegarette that they put or the vegetables themselves. The vegetables also had fava beans which were crunchy. The bowl itself had a hummus layer all around. The hummus had a lack in flavor, but when mixed with the vegetables it added a nice element to it. My favorite part about this place though was the soda. The cilantro & lime soda was so good it added a star! I saw that their falafel is on the Creative Loafing Top 100 Dishes list too, so I want to try that sometime. read more
