    Awesome spot to get street-style snack foods! Their portions are pretty good and their food is tasty! Prices are very reasonable for their sizes! The street-style snack foods are very quickly prepared for you as they're all ready to go. Don't forget to get some chili oil for your meal! Their house-made chili oil is delicious! Definitely recommend for that good old comfort food!

    Yan Can Cook is a food stall in First Markham Place's food court, serving delicious Cantonese-style dishes. This stall is one of the oldest in FMP; it has been around for over 20 years. They have an impressively extensive menu item, considering that this is in a food court... comparable to the menus in many Chinese restaurants. The food is not only delicious, but also very affordable, non-greasy, and not too salty (the opposite of what you'd expect in a fast-food style Chinese food or dishes found in a food court). The Buddha's Delight Vegetables dish consists of a good variety of vegetables: gai lan, broccoli, green pepper, onion, carrot, and a few others. They're nicely tender without being overcooked, and the seasoning is tasty without being too salty and oily. Perfect accompaniment to any rice dish. They offer combo menu items that include 1-2 main dishes with rice and soup / drink for below $12. One of their signature items is the Fish Shiu Mai (a good divergent from the traditional Shiu Mai that's usually made of pork). There is always a big pot of it steaming right in the front counter. Yan Can Cook is definitely one of my favourite stalls at First Markham Place.

    I ordered a Satay Beef Chow Mein and it was seriously delicious. At $10, it was slightly more expensive that most other options in the food court (most things are around the $8 mark), but it was well worth it. They really gave a generous amount of beef and vegetables, and the sauce to noodle ratio was perfect. Like any good chow mein, the noodles were crispy, softening up as they soaked up the savoury sauce. Honestly the chow mein here is better than a lot of proper sit-down restaurants I've been to. The portion was also quite generous, definitely enough for even the hungriest person. As a bonus, the food comes with a complimentary drink and I selected the iced lemon tea which was nice and refreshing. Overall this place is truly a gem, and I wish I lived closer so I could try the rest of their extensive menu.

    My fave food court stand in FMP. We always get their fish siaomay, curry fishball, and the soysauce noodle. The pan fried noodle is also good and this is just my always go to everytime we are in the Markham area. Its just simple typical Cantonese style cooking. The service always very efficient. And the food court ambiance has always busy but there is always plent of seats available.

    This is my go to spot for noodles/rice dishes when I visit FMP. Food is cheap, portions are nice and big and the food isnt too oily. They also dont cheap out on the ingredients. Just be mindful when you want sauce you will need to DIY and I dont like that the chilli oil is exposed to all elements meaning its self serve with a container and a spoon with no lid?

    This dish was so tasty! It is packed with protein and the flavour is extremely strong. Make sure you request the boneless fish version if you do not like bones in your meat. Even though the prices have gone up to $12 a dish it is very reasonable for the amount of food you get

    We ordered take out, it was quite busy that evening but the line was moving fast. We were given a number, and the order camequite fast. We ordered Cantonese Chow Mien and Salt and Pepper Pork Chop on Rice. Bith were delicious, i especially like the Salt and Pepper Pork Chop, it wasn't over salty nor spicy, just right. Overall, as a fast food place it's quite good woth lots of varieties. Will try other items next time.

    Cantonese Chow Mein $7.50 comes with a free iced tea.

    This place used to be called Yan's Cook, but now it's called Yan Can Cook (maybe Yan's Cook taught Yan how to cook, so now Yan can cook, haha). The menu is the same and the staff I think are the same, so I think it was just a name change. Anyway, it's one of the places to eat at the First Markham Place food court. It's pretty cheap and the portions are large. They are also really really fast. You get a free iced tea with each plate. I've had the Cantonese Chow Mein there ($7.50) and the portion is huge and full of meat and vegetables (BBQ pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, carrots, broccoli and shiitake mushrooms). The noodles are deep fried, so they are really crispy. My only complaint is that some parts were really salty and some parts were "normal" - although still verging on the too salty side. They just need to be more even-handed with the salt (and they can afford be to more light-handed with the salt too). Overall though a good cheap meal that will definitely fill you up.

    Their handmade Siu mai is soooooo big and al dente. I went at around 5 pm and they have a tea set 6 siu mai and a chrysanthemum tea for $5. The tea is very refreshing and taste natural. To be honest I am pretty filling. I am definitely coming back again for the siu mai.

    Although this might not be Martin or cousin Stephen Yan's (both stars of their own cooking shows "Yan Can Cook" and the Canadian version "Wok with Yan" respectively) quality of restaurant, it is fast food after all. For under 6 bucks, it's a decent deal. The crispy chicken dish was on par with some of the better places I've been (see my pic). Had a decent serving of veg and the combo with the hot and sour soup. As long as you stay away from the battered deep fried meat with gloopy sauce (i.e. fake chinese food), I think you'll be okay. My buddies curried brisket was decent, and I've had the soup noodles with brisket which was right on par with any other congee type place. Love being to get some decent Chrysanthemum tea that's not from a box or can, as you can't get it brewed everywhere (though admittedly it's probably instant). It's one of the busier stalls at First Markham place food court, so get here before the noon rush.

    Yan Can Cook is a located in the popular First Markham Place food court. I'm pretty sure it has no relation to Chef Martin Yan of the famed PBS series "Yan Can Cook" but they share the same name. Btw I've met and dealt with Chef Yan before in the past...super nice guy and down to earth! The food here is good, portions large and cheap. They serve your typical Cantonese rice and noodle dishes but where they shine is the ready to serve dim sum snacks, especially their Fish Siu Mai. They are the BEST in the GTA! Huge, tasty and only $3! You will not get fish siu mai that is better. Pair that up with their chili garlic oil and you have a match made in heaven! Definitely also try some of their other dim sum fare like the soya sauce rice noodles and curry fish balls as the dim sum fare are all $3-$5 each. It takes a certain skill to make fried rice cleanly without an excessive oily coating on each grain of rice. This was one of the best fried rices I've ever had! The deep-fried tofu was bland and forgettable. The stir-fried shrimp was acceptable but nothing special. The biggest disappointment was the sweet and sour pork. I specifically asked the server to make sure the pork was crispy, but it arrived soft and lumpy rather than light and crunchy. Even the complimentary red bean dessert soup was watery and lacked flavor. Our bill came to about $104 for two people. For the quality of the food, I didn't feel it offered good value. Sadly, after several disappointing visits, I don't think we'll be returning.

Our group was in town for an eight-day conference with more than 3,000 attendees. Because of this experience, this restaurant has unfortunately been added to the "not recommended" list for this annual event. When restaurants host business travelers, the way guests are treated matters just as much as the quality of the food. Unprofessional treatment of customers and business partners can damage relationships and cost businesses significant opportunities. To anyone considering this restaurant: the food is excellent, but if you're planning an important business dinner or any special occasion, be aware that the wrong interaction at the front desk could ruin your evening. Great food alone cannot make up for poor management and unprofessional customer service.

I ordered these items: - Pork and chive steamed dumplings (large has 14 dumplings) - Tea eggs - Shredded potato salad On Fantuan, when you purchase $15 worth of food, you get the shredded potato salad for a cent. Deal! After placing my order near my home, I drove over to this eatery. The drive was ten minutes. I was given an estimated time of fifteen minutes. It was ready in ten minutes. I had no problem finding this eatery. There was plenty of parking. I pulled into a spot and walked in. I saw the Yubu sign. My heart sank, as I loved the Korean tofu pockets from this joint. I liked seeing places to sit down and eat at He Bei. Nice! A woman behind the counter came over. I said that I had a Fantuan order. She talked to me in Mandarin. I don't understand it, but we were fine communicating with each other in our languages. She pointed out the blue Fantuan bag on the table behind me. I thanked her and wished her a nice day. She said thanks right back. I put my food in my insulated bag. With the leak, I managed to launder the Fantuan bag and clean my insulated bag. After I cleaned up, I had dinner at home. The food was amazing and filling! I loved the shredded potato salad. Sure, a lot of the sesame-soy sauce was gone. However, it tasted yummy. It was worth the cent! The steamed pork and chive dumplings were so good. I didn't dunk them in soy sauce. The filling had so much moisture that I felt like I was eating soup dumplings. The filling had yummy flavour and the dumplings were steamed to perfection. Excellent! You can buy frozen dumplings from this place. I'll need to do it. The tea eggs were the perfect snack while streaming hockey games. I peeled the shells off both of them. The eggs were cracked to allow the amazing soy-based sauce to marinate and get into the eggs. They were generous with the amount of beef and was well marinated. The cut wasn't that great, but that is to be expected. I don't think they added much MSG or at least used good quality ones, as we did not feel overly thirsty later in the evening. They give free daily soup and dessert. What we were most impressive was with the service. The waiters were very attentive, changing our plates twice during our 1ish hour meal. The also gave us wet wipes and more napkins without us requesting it. They even offered us additional soup, which we declined as we were quite full.

The restaurant was surrounded in tanks full of lobster, crab, seafood and then a ton of dry aged steaks. Definitely something you don't see in California. Clean and spacious. Service was what you would expect from a Chinese seafood restaurant. Overall the meal was good, for me and a few others at the table the star of the show was actually the fish. The lobster while impressive when they brought it out was not as flavorful as one would have expected. And same with the king crab legs - my favorite have been the ones I've had in SF. Was interesting to come and experience it but I wouldn't come back. I prefer quality food over an IG-moment.

The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

They have different special offers each day from Monday to Friday. We ordered the special Linyi Style Stir Fried Chicken on Friday. And we also ordered Boiled Basa Fish with pickled Cabbage & Green Pepper. They were pretty traditional Chinese styles. The white rice or brown rice both can have as much as we could. That's good for men. We both like here, but they don't offer specials during the weekends. But they do have other special packages, just a bit different. And they also have the membership that we could collect points and then we could use the points to get drinks or different snacks or dishes.

Wait list is old school...someone writes your name and number in a notebook and you are called when your table is ready. The interior is reminiscent of the old school taverns you see in those old Chinese movies where the traveller has spent days walking or on a horse and comes upon a tavern where the interior is all wooden tables and benches. Dining style and dishes are all family style. You order a couple of dishes and then add rice. Spice level can be adjusted and even at 'less' the heat level was high. Definitely generous use of Szechwan peppercorns! Food is very flavourful and depending on preference some might find the oil level high. The clientele is mainly Mandarin speaking and if you are Asian they will immediately communicate in Mandarin with you but I did see the staff switch to English where needed. Double Cooked Pork Slices: Classic Sichuan-style dish. The pork belly is first boiled, then stir-fried again with chili bean paste and green bell pepper. Very flavorful and savoury, another great dish to go with rice. Soy Sauce Fried Rice: One of my fav childhood dishes, and they delivered very well. It's such a huge portion that we could only finish it in two days. Service was great, considerate and friendly. They even pour water for you before you sit down and pack up the leftovers for you after you finish. You might have to wait if you don't have a reservation, but the turnaround is pretty fast.
