My sister treated me to some birthday takeout. The meat dishes are ample, but I'm meatless, so I opted for the curry shrimp over callaloo rice. The portion size to price ratio is great! You get a good amount of food. Street parking can be challenging, depending on the day & time. But the service was pretty quick. I believe they offer specials on certain days of the week. They also have limited outdoor dining. I had a good amount of shrimp in my serving, but I was so into the rice which was amazing, that I didn't have many shrimp. But the texture and flavor was great. Lunch delivery from Yard Jerk is always something to look forward to. In particular, the standard "small" Jerk chicken portion size is huge and satisfying. What is not satisfying is the side choices that come with the jerk chicken. The rice side can be white rice, rice and peas, or chicken fried rice (+$2.50). I tried to order the chicken fried rice on two separate occasions, only for the restaurant to send rice and peas. Not exactly sure what's going on here. They are, however, able to honor the other 2 choices - either plantains or cabbage, and either jerk sauce or sweet sauce. My go-to order happens to be a jerk chicken (small is $7), with rice and peas, cabbage (need at least some greens!), and jerk sauce. See pictures! Finally, if you order through Uber Eats, there 2 restaurant selections that come up: Yard Jerk and Yard Jerk 2. The menu is exactly the same, but the prices are different! Yard Jerk (Jerk Chicken Small normal price +$0, Large +$2) vs. Yard Jerk 2 (Jerk Chicken Small +$15, Large +$3 - this is NOT a typo). See pictures again. Very confusing! The food is the best Caribbean food in Bridgeport!! Spices are on point! Variety of meats offered with great side dishes. You can eat-in, but it is noisey because of the crowd. There is an outside seating area also. I find the service to be slow paced. If you're on lunch break, you may want to skip this place. Curry chicken, ribs, seafood stew are great!! My husband an I love Jamaican food. However this place was not the place to go to. They discriminate and are very racist. There was Sign on window that said $6 lunch special. My husband went in and ordered the jerk chicken lunch special. When he confirmed how much it was, the employee goes on to say $12. when my husband questioned and asked why does it say $6 on the sign outside, the employee said " that's not a price for you man ". My husband confused but still goes on to say it says $6 on the window lunch special, the employee just continues to say " yeah and I just told you that's not your price man"! Decent Jamaican food. I usually opt for the jerk chicken. They offer white meat as option which is rare for most Jamaican restaurants. The jerk sauce is more a BBQ than classic pepper sauce. Make sure to ask for a little extra. The menu is pretty expansive. They serve breakfast and have daily specials that even includes different types of seafood. There is no indoor seating. The prices are ridiculously affordable, a vast selection of good food choices and they give out generous portion sizes. $25 for 2 platters that can easily serve 3, 2 if your extremely hungry. I have been eating here for years. Great food, but recently I went to get my usual oxtails and the food didn't taste like it normally does. It needed seasoning and they barely put any gravy. I did notice that there were different people in the back. I guess that's when I should've left. The worse part about all of this is that there was something that resembled a worm in my food. I picked this out of the food and let it sit out and it definitely became hard and shriveled like a dried worm in the sun. I an opportunity to visit this restaurant and OMG!!! I understand before coming to this restaurant I had an opportunity to try out five other restaurants throughout Connecticut from New York City all the way to New Haven, but this restaurant right here, is the truth! I could tell from when the food came out of the store and they handed food to me, it was hot and fresh and you could eat the food with your eyes before you even start to eat it. You could smell the flavors of the food and it seems like it was made with love. Now, I can't recommend very many restaurants but I must tell you that if you want to try Jamaican Food for the first time, try this place! I am just disappointed with the service of YARDJERK..I went there today and again during busy time of the day 11:30-12:30 lunch time for most people/customers, one person taken orders, same person taking order serving food, same person still using the gloves to share now about settle the bill, no other persons helping and you have about 5 people in the line already waiting and more entering to join the line. Just a turn off of your restaurant operation. I have been here many times and have lessened the times I support because either lack of professionalism and organization, including getting orders WRONG. When I first discovered this place last summer - on a Saturday, which happens to be their day for Seafood Saturdayz - I instantly fell in love. I remembered ordering a Salmon and Shrimp Fried Rice, after salivating over their seafood platter for approximately 15 minutes; which appeared in their display case. Much to my amazement, my food taste just as good as it looked. Shortly after that, I became one of their most loyal customers. It wasn't until two months ago, that I began to see a drastic change in their food and staff. Their staff became less friendly, and their food became less flavorful(reasons for the two stars). They used to make the best Salmon, Brown Stew Fish and Curry Shrimp in town. Now, they don't even try to make it half way decent (I won't even comment on their other dishes or their rice & peas). I am very disappointed at what they have become. They have so much potential, and I'm still rooting for them - but they have to stop serving leftover food from a few days ago to their customers. This review is solely for the Jerk Pork!! As my mouth flamed with heat and spice I was pleasantly surprised! This was no watered down bbq sauce cover up jerk sauce. This is the best jamaican food in town. Always a line out the door and the staff is moving non stop. They work hard here. They take pride in their food and you can taste it!!! I made an order on Grubhub and waited for about 40 minutes before I called to see if the order had left. The woman that answered said the order was cancelled. They had no cabbage. No Mac and cheese. I must say that I am extremely disappointed with this restaurant. I'd initially discovered this place by accident and although it does not have an inviting appearance (it is has sort of a hole-in-the-wall look), its interior appeared to be relatively clean, so I decided to give it a try. To their credit, I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of their ackee dish (it was seasoned well and had the right proportion of saltfish to ackee) and found myself going back several times to purchase it. However, on my last visit to the restaurant I found myself caught up in a dispute regarding the price of the ackee breakfast. Let me state that, the price for the small ackee was $8.00, as per the menu - and that is the price I had paid previously. On this occasion, I was told surly that the small ackee was $10.00. I mentioned to the guy that was serving me, that I thought the small ackee was $8.00. He stated that the ackee was $10.00 and the price on the menu was a "mistake"; and he WASN'T selling the small ackee for $8.00. He apparently thought that it was my first visit to the restaurant and it would be easy to pull this flimflam nonsense. I had never seen him before on my previous visits - the person who served me on the prior occasions was a cordial young lady. Rather than get into debate regarding the legal precedence that the printed menu price has over the quoted price, I decided to cancel my order and leave. This type of bush-league, unscrupulous behavior is definitely a turn-off; and if customers feel that they are being ripped-off, then this may certainly contribute to the failure of a business. That said, I will NOT support this restaurant going forward - my parents did NOT raise an idiot. BTW - I had also ordered a mackerel breakfast on this visit, as well. So rather than make a sale of roughly $15.00, the total I would have paid for my order, he would rather give it up for $2.00. Not a very prudent business decision - not at all. The food is good plus their customers service is great and that's rare for Jamacain restaurants their attitude really suck at OTHER ESTABLISHMENTS .I usually order take out at least once or twice a week .The lines out the door in the evening so I think it's best to just call and skip the waiting . As a person who prides themselves on knowing about the majority of restaurants in Bridgeport, I can't believe I didn't know about this place. It's closer to home than my usual Jamaican spot so I thought I'd give it a chance. I ordered the jerk pork, rice and peas with oxtail gravy and plantains (the same thing I order at any other Jamaican restaurant). The pork had a smoky quality that took away from the jerk flavoring. It tasted more like bbq. Still, it was tender and very good. The rice was too mushy, as were the plantains. The restaurant is small and clean (with two large flat screens - one showing cable and the other displaying the day's menu) with bench seating so most orders are take outs. When I went in to order, the place was packed and it was extremely hot. I saw they had an ac but for some reason it wasn't on. Bottom line is the food was okay but I'd still rather travel to get better quality. read more
