Scottish Salmon with Seaweed and Yuzu Jelly Carpaccio
    Nathan G.

We had dinner reservations today at Yashin Ocean House. We ended up ordering the Omakase nigiri, Scottish Salmon Carpaccio, Wagyu Sukiyaki, and the Sukiyaki Roll. The food was pretty great! Some items were definitely better than others, such as the two beef dishes. The Sirloin Hida Wagyu Sukiyaki was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the candy floss on top added a sweetness that complemented the sukiyaki flavour very nicely. The Sukiyaki Roll with a raw egg yolk as dipping sauce was also very tasty. I really enjoyed these two dishes. In terms of the Omakase, most of the pieces were also very nice, but I would definitely prefer if it were served in a more traditional piece-by-piece style as I have grown accustomed to. Serving the entire omakase at once on one plate detracts from the individual pieces a bit, as it gets difficult to remember what each item is. You also end up missing the experience of the sushi chef guiding you through the courses in order of lighter to heavier pieces. However, we did find the toro with truffle was a standout, as was the yellowtail with gorgonzola. The Scottish Salmon Carpaccio was decent, but not amazing. Service was extremely attentive! We were checked on multiple times, with the waiter continuously asking us if we were enjoying the meal, needed anything, or even providing recommendations on what to order. The restaurant itself also has a very nice look and feel (good ambiance). All in all, a really enjoyable meal at Yashin Ocean House!

Yashin Sushi is no ordinary Japanese restaurant but one that is evolving, traditional dishes with a modern twist without taking too much of its heritage away. The food was exquisite, challenging pairings of foods with superior creativity. Having ingredients cooked in a way you have never had before made each dish feel unique. Dishes weren't just tasty but visually stunning. Miso cappuccino. A creative twist on miso soup having tofu pieces replaced with a coating of ginger silken tofu foam instead. Similar to milk foam but slightly more firmer. It was just as light and airy though breaking away into a full bodied miso soup with wakame. Very warming to the soul. Amuse Bouche of the evening: Deep fried salmon on cucumber top with shredded carrots and daikon. Dinner starts with a small dish complimentary from the chef and it was great. The salmon was delicately crisp on the outside but flakey on in the inside. Very nice light seasoning to allow the sweetness of the salmon to shine and cucumber to balance any residue effects of it being deep fried left on the palate. Himalayan Salt Bowl Grouper. Fresh grouper fish in a lovely mix of tomatoes and an appetising citrus sauce, unseasoned. Such a creative idea to serve it in a 100% Himalayan salt bowl so you stir the fish and tomatoes to season it as salty as you like it. The grouper had a lovely texture bring more firmer and denser compared to most fish although very bouncy. The flavour was more similar to sea bass. Yaki yose tofu This had the consistency and texture of melted marshmallow without the hot temperature. Instead it was cooled down, almost like a dessert. Consisting of a layer of tofu with sweet wasabi soy sauce. The wasabi was very very mild so there was no interruptions to the extreme creaminess and silkiness of the tofu. Sashimi island. The most visually appealing dish of the evening. A glass vase like container that flattens out to a dish consisting a variety of fresh sashimi on top. It starts with hot water being poured into the middle of the dish into the container with sits a solution of dried ice mixed with yuzu sake. By heating the solution it steams up which travelling upwards towards the plate of sashimi leaving hints of the yuzu flavour onto the sashimi. The sashimi were incredibly fresh, all topped with individual pairing of sauces and jellies to uplift its flavour. Omakase eight The freshest selection of the day and on that evening it was fatty tuna, salmon, seabass and yellowfish. We were told that the different accompanied sauces on top of the nigiri had all been aged for two years to give the purest and richness in flavour. There was no need for soy sauce or in any part of the meal as attention to detail has gone into each fish to have its own accompanied sauce made to be paired with it. The flavour were all very balanced, none to overpowering so the fresh fish can be enjoyed to the fullest in terms of its natural sweetness and textures. Sushi roll of the day- Prawn tempura with soy spaghetti and soy flakes. This dish was okay but I felt it needed a softer texture to balance out the crispy tempura as the prawn itself felt lost in there with the firm textures of the spaghetti. Cod cheeks in chilli amazu. A nice delicate dish of incredibly soft flakey pieces of deep fried cod in a lovely appetising sweet rice vinegary sauce. It was perfectly balance with cod, being a more bland fish and the sauce helping lift its flavour. Head-to-prawn tempura. They told us that it will be one of the sweetest prawn we've yet to have and she was right. It was gigantic, plump, batter very light and crispy with taking the tenderness and softness of the prawns. The sweet soy tempura sauce came in a test tube that was thick in texture but light in taste. It clung well to the prawn adding moisture and a boost of flavour. Chargrilled saikyo. Lovely flakey buttery cobia fish, cooked similar to black cod is usually, of sweet miso. The texture and flavour was sublime with the addition of aubergine purée giving that extra creaminess, moisture and depth of flavour. Chargrilled eel with sweet soy and Maldon salt. It's refreshing to not have the same generic flavours for the eel every time I order it. The flavours were more subtle so the taste of the eel were more apparent and fresh. However some of the salt was not equally sprinkled so I was unlucky enough to have one piece of eel incredibly salty. Green tea sorbet, azuki ice cream and sesame ice cream. The ice cream were all incredibly smooth, sesame being more rich because of its richer nutty flavour. The azuki was light, creamy and sweet whilst the green tea sorbet was a lovely palate cleanser, refreshing without the heaviness of the cream. The experience at Yashin sushi was a meal to remember. Our staff was friendly, funny and knowledgable. The selection of cocktails were good too. I highly recommend Yashin for anyone looking for an excellent Japanese restaurant to splash out on.

Tuna with truffle infused ponzu jelly (£12)

I came in at 12 pm which is when they open, and was seated immediately. It is a gorgeous space in a beautiful area, felt very Parisian. You can either sit at the counter and watch the chefs prepare the fish right in front of you, or have a table. The tuna with truffle infused ponzu jelly and hone kawa senbei which is umami mackerel bone and fish skin are beyond what words can describe - they were both so delicious. The tuna was very fresh, the truffle infused ponzu jelly is nothing like I've ever tasted before and was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved it. The hone kawa senbei is deliciously salty and enjoyed every piece. Service was professional and fast, I felt very cared for here. Bathrooms are located downstairs and are kept clean. Overall I had a wonderful experience and can't wait to try out the rest of the menu!

I cannot find a word but great. All the staffs are very attentive, especially Mr. Oda, a great wine expert, was so impressive that we could enjoy red wine and Japanese craft beer. Food dishes were excellent, urchin, big prawn tempura, and sushi were unforgettable. I will be back soon.

Words can not explain the culinary journey I just had the pleasure to experience. We went somewhat blind, searching through Yelp, this was amazing, pushing standards and adhering to traditions at other times. It was great! The Hajimento Share Course is the way to go for two people. It just keeps blowing you away. First subtly then with wild flavor combinations and a couple of flavors I couldn't place my finger on. Then they get to what would be considered "standard sushi" and it's wonderfully traditional with hints of flavors that will make sure you don't need soy anywhere near this delicacy. If you love sushi you are in for an experience, if you don't like sushi you might learn to love this.

Delicious food, reasonably priced and excellent service! They kindly welcomed us even though their kitchen had just closed.

One thing is for certain is they are extremely consistent. There is something to appreciate about seeing a Wasabi, walking in and grabbing a small box and drink for a few pounds and it being exactly the same as the one you were at yesterday several kilometers away. It's the McDonalds of Japanese. I sure will miss them the most. I even dropped in on one in Birmingham Bullring and it was exactly the same as the first one I visited here in Knightsbridge. I can't wait to try one when I get back to LA and see if it's the same or not. That would be just something short of amazing if the consistency was the same as here in London. Honestly, if I walked by one back home before this trip, I probably wouldn't even look twice or think about out. But now, for bits n pieces, this is a must snack-a-roni for me. I'll be happy to report back if and when I do.

It is located in the Japan House which has a shop and museum on the lower floors and this restaurant upstairs. We booked for afternoon tea on OneTable and they came out with the lunch menu which looked kind of pricy but we ordered the large tea platter which was full of tasty sushi and delicious snacks as well as a choice of tea or other drinks. I ordered the matcha and my wife ordered the sencha tea which were probably the best tea we have ever had. The service was pretty good but they forgot to give my wife a birthday desert (which was one matcha cake and one sponge cake with a candle) while they celebrated a birthday next to us. Not sure if it was a mix up since the booking said it was for a birthday or if she had a birthday twin next to us. Anyways, they felt bad and didn't charge for the birthday desert which was nice. We recommend this place for an authentic Japanese experience as well as their afternoon tea and to check out the free museum downstairs as it has rotating exhibits.

The place is owned by a Japanese family of six, all working together. I also tried a bit of their sushi, and it was tasty and unfussy. But I think the highlight of the meal was trying new flavours, such as deep fried shrimp wrapped in perilla leaf. They also have a very nice sake and shochu selection. Try the red bean ice cream. Very subtle and a lovely texture with mashed beans included. Our hostess/waitress was a one woman wonder, and she made sure we loved everything. Don't be afriad to ask if you don't know what a sauce or side dish is. I learned I really like the yellow pickled radish called takuan that came with my partner's meal. and it made the hostess super happy too boot, as apparently, according to her, many younger Japanese don't like the flavour. Ah well, I know I did.
