I've used Nick in the past, one of the jobs being to reinforce an old wood deck. He did a really nice job on it, so when we recently decided to stain and seal that deck, I reached out to see if he was available. His bid was in line with the decking companies I had already contacted, so once I knew he had the time to take it on I knew I had to go with him. Nick did an awesome job setting up a custom shelf for my window AC. I had an AC, an AC bracket, and an unusual window, and none of these were compatible with each other, so I was stuck. I was also getting tired of suffering through heat waves with the windows shut (bad AQI) when I had an AC right. there. taking up space in my living room. Nick enthusiastically worked with me to come up with a custom solution from start to finish, and clearly relished the challenge. He texted with me the night before to learn what model AC and AC bracket I had. He promised he wouldn't charge me if he came by and couldn't solve my problem, which I appreciated, although I would've paid him anyway for his time. Nick communicated clearly with me about his arrival times, and wore a mask at all times inside the house. He identified rotting wood in the window frame, thought ahead about how to take the AC down in the winter, made sure to check up on the AC's water collection and drainage, and measured and built the custom AC shelf quickly, precisely, and sturdily. He also sought my opinion at every step and gave me informed choices. The whole experience working with Nick was a lot of fun for a nerd like me, and I'm also thrilled to be enjoying cool, dehumidified air at home now. Given his professionalism, reasonable rates, quality work, and preparedness, I'm not surprised he's plenty busy. Nick fixed the shower door quickly but noticed the larger issue was that the tile flooring had areas of missing grout so he came back another day to re-grout and clean things up in our master bedroom shower stall. He was very professional and did a detailed job as the job took about a half a day. He cleaned up nicely and now we can take a nice shower for years to come without worrying that the tile flooring leaks water underneath. Before starting, he warned me about problems bricks sometime give, and positioned the rail base to minimize the chance of trouble (there was none). The Chinese masonry bit supplied with the rail did not fit his hammer drill, so I went out to find a compatible bit and anchors while Nick worked on other jobs. This review took far too long to post and I apologize. Anyway I just wanted to give a glowing review to this most excellent handyman who went above and beyond during his visit. Because I have bad arthritis and my wife has MS we can't really do all of the tasks around the house we used to. So every now and then we have to hire a handyman which hasn't always had the greatest result. However this time we were very pleased with the service and anticipate calling him back again soon to a couple more things. We specifically called in order to get help in installing a wall TV mount and also mounting a wall lamp. We also needed to tall bookcases earthquake strapped 2 wall studs. The main issue with our apartment being that the studs are very strange and not always where you would expect them to be based on any reasonable kind of construction normals. He was able to find studs for our mounts and get everything installed in very short order as well as attaching the earthquake straps to our bookshelves. While he was doing this he actually went to the trouble of showing how I could figure out using a tape measure in particular measurements to find the studs in our weirdo apartment. So we would like to give a great recommendation to this most excellent jack of all trades. His costs were also very reasonable and actually less than the last handyperson we used who was a complete disaster. They were up in Seattle though so you don't have to worry about them. read more

Couldn't be better! Nick fixed and/or diagnosed almost 10 different issues while in the house, ranging from handyman to plumbing to electrical. The best part about hiring him are his license in both electrical and plumbing (for depth of knowledge and my peace of mind) and the fact that he came incredibly prepared, with spare/replacement parts of common items like screws of various specifications and electrical outlets, as well as long tool to install bulbs at 20' height - in his incredibly well equipped truck. In the past when I called handymen, I always wished they could be a 'one stop shop' with the knowledge and tools/parts to fix almost anything - which I could never quite get - this is what you get if you call Nick since he's an excellent general contractor. Super happy that the house is back up to smoothly running thanks to Nick being at the top of his craft. Of course, he was also punctual, professional, friendly, and easy to work with, and very honest and fair with pricing, even though its understandably bit on the higher side compared to a less skilled handyman. Nick is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to knowledge in the construction field and know-how. Over the years he has fixed many things for me. I have referred him to my neighbor, and he currently is working at my mother's house, which is a 60 year old home. He is doing electrical work, dishwasher repairs, new door installation, handicap grab bars in the shower and at the toilet. He has fixed cabinet doors in her RV too. Nick repaired the front door and fire door going from the kitchen to the garage in my mom's house. I submitted a quote request on Yelp to 4-5 handymen, and Nick was the first to respond. Both doors in my mom's house are quite old and did not close properly. Nick did an amazing job and gave me options we could take along the way. Our Andersen bathroom window, awning type, needed a new crank operator. Besides the parts which we were able to order, there was a tricky operation involving a 36 in. piece of trim wood. Nick was familiar with the problem we were facing and was able to remove and replace this fragile piece of wood as part of exchanging the old operator parts with the new ones. Nick is not just a handyman, he is a licensed electrician and plumber. Having all this knowledge and years of experience in a single contractor makes him a time saver and unique professional in this business. Everything that's sometimes wrong with contractors he got it right: 1) He communicates by txt and is very responsive. 2) Once you're on his schedule you can count that he will be at your home by the time he promised or you will get a txt in advance if his prior job is taking a bit longer. 3) Although he charges by the hour he is super good at estimating how long it would take and therefore you won't run into surprises at the time of paying him. 4) He drives a big van full of supplies, so he is not one of those that either use time during the job to buy what he needs or requires you to provide it unless you want to. 5) He is very thorough and pays a lot of attention to details. He will clean everything after he finishes and he will ensure you're happy with the job before he leaves. If not, he will rework it until you're happy. At my house he fixed leaking toilets, fixed patio doors that were misaligned and stuck, patched and re-attached a towel rack, fixed a back yard gate, sealed a bath tub and a shower and finally re-grouted a bathroom floor. It's nice to finally find someone who I can depend on for household maintenance issues. I requested an estimate to clear our dryer vents. Nick was quick to respond. Even though his schedule was full for over a month, he squeezed in an after-hours appointment knowing that I haven't cleared our vent for over 5 years so as to avoid a possible fire hazard. While discussing my dryer concerns, he requested detailed information so that he could be well-prepared and bring the appropriate equipment and tools. I got an estimated arrival time within a short 30 minute window. Nick texted when he was on the way and arrived on time. He got the job done efficiently and resolved an additional issue that I didn't even anticipate (there was a kink in the dryer duct that created a tear). He charges by the hour and since he didn't take up an entire hour, he offered to do other mini-jobs. I asked him to balance my washer and clear my shower drain too. He finished the hour and I started to ask him to do other mini-jobs but he was honest about his after-hours rates and advised that I reschedule with him during regular hours so that I'm not paying too much for such simple jobs. We were without hot water until we could get some drywall up in our external water heater closet. I contacted Ye Old Handyman for a quote and I got a response minutes later from Nick. Compared to the several others I reached out to, his cost was more reasonable, and I also appreciate his expertise. He was able to schedule us even with his busy schedule, knowing we were without hot water and have a newborn! Nick arrived on time. Again, since we have a newborn, I had to be precise about how to contact us upon his arrival because didn't want to wake the baby! He was extra considerate on that point. After looking at what we needed, he even recognized what the restoration people missed (more mold in the wall) and removed it. He also straightened and cleaned up the work the restoration people did (they did a poor job).
