Year Round Tax Service has closed and people did not get their documents back and in reviews are also reporting that they were having problems with false tax returns being filed. They are also apparently H&M tax preparation. Heather McTavish's CPA license is inactive as of June 30th. She claims to be an Enrolled Agent but she is not currently authorized by the IRS as a CPA or Enrolled Agent. You should consider filing a police report and a complaint with the Better Business Bureau based on the experiences you have had. Absolutely deplorable tax accountant, we used Heather for years and then came back to her in 2018. My husband and I thought all of our taxes were being filed correctly and on time, only to receive letters from the IRS and FTB starting in December of 2022 that our corporate taxes were filed incorrectly for 2018 & 2019 AND 2021 corporate taxes were filed 7 months late. We tried to contact Heather and her staff by email and phone to no avail and no resolution. After 2 trips to her office in an attempt to get the specific requirements by the IRS and the FTB resolved, we are now sitting in her office (for the 3rd time this week) for 2 plus hours and the clock is still ticking, AND we are still waiting for all of the documents to address all of the misfiled tax documents by Heather. We incurred over $1750 in interest and penalties for the incorrect computation on taxes and for filing taxes 7 months late. She refuses to refund us for the penalty's and interest, although we submitted the tax paperwork on time, paid the taxes on time and paid her fees for work performed on time. If I could give zero stars I would. I was told after they did my tax return that I owed both federal and state so I paid and they e-filed the returns. to my surprise, I received a refund from the IRS. After contacting them, it seems as if what they filed is different than what they gave me, leaving me with trying to sort everything out. On top of that, I was told by the IRS that the refund they said I was due went to an account that is not mine and that I know nothing about so I don't know where the money is. Heather McTavish prepared my taxes the past several years. This year, when she e-filed them, my social security number was stolen and someone else used it to file a fraudulent return. I understand that these things can happen, but what angered me was that Heather did nothing to help me after it happened. She even incorrectly filed an amended return that made things worse. She never called the IRS to try and resolve the situation and she stopped taking my calls or answering my emails. She has subsequently closed her office and is now operating out of her home. Everyone from the receptionist to the support staff to Heather's advice was most professional. I decided to do my Corporate returns along with my personal returns since the SIP has given me some extra time. Years ago my husband and I went to H&R Block - what a disaster. It was our first year of marriage and our tax liabilities were twice as high as we had anticipated, I was literally ill. A friend suggested I get a second opinion from Year Round Tax Service. They saved us a bundle way back then, and we have been with them ever since. Heather and Marcus took over the practice in 2008, we could not be more pleased. They are on it, professional, responsive, and very knowledgeable. Marcus reviewed our files and found some obscure allowable credits from prior years that had been overlooked. I honestly did not believe it at first, had to go do my own research. Do not bring your taxes to this office!! There is something seriously wrong with this woman. She kept my paperwork for two months and did nothing, then "accidentally" shredded my whole file. When I took my taxes in, I explained that I had just gotten them back from an accountant who had them for 2 months and had also done nothing. I gave a copy of the final demand before a lien on over 200k was going to be done by the IRS. I never heard anything from Heather and would stop by the office to see what was up. A month or so ago I dropped off some other paperwork that supposedly would get my taxes finished. Then no word and office closed due to Covid quarantine. Then I'm calling and get no response. Stopping by and the assistant doesn't know where my paperwork is. So no communication, doesn't remember anything about my case and shredded everything. These were documents that should never had been shredded but returned. Such dysfunction reeks of alcoholism or substance abuse. My life us ruined and she needs to stop taking customers and get help. read more

I love the personal service at Year Round Tax. Heather has been my accountant since Jack Bennett retired years ago. I was pleasantly surprised to find her just as personable with a task I justifiably loathe... but year after year Heather does a terrific job, even reminding me of deductions that I might have missed. Horrible service, response time, and you don't get the services you paid for. I had my taxes prepared for several years and each year went downhill. My first year Heather met with me, I had all the paperwork together and it was seamless. The last couple years you receive an email from YRTS stating "office procedures" for them to prepare your taxes. It always struck me odd the demands they make on the paying customer, especially for a simple return and the service fee is $250.00+. I followed the instructions for my 2018 taxes, dropped everything off in an envelope, a week or so later rec'd a call that my taxes were ready and come at a certain time. I arrived, the woman at the desk found my forms, asked me to sign, and I wrote her a check. At the time I thought, that is odd, nobody sits down with you to review how they came up with your return etc. my mistake, I should've asked, but the office was chaotic and several people were waiting. For my 2019 taxes I rec'd the same email, but it stated please reply if you have any questions. I did so within minutes, this was on 01/02/20, no reply back. I kept receiving reminder emails and again replied back on 01/16/20, still no reply, but their instructions indicate please reply if you have any questions. I finally called the office and asked for Heather's email, sent her an email and rec'd a reply not from Heather but her office manager, apparently Heather is too busy to reply to a simple email from a current client asking what is going on with her office. After several email exchanges Heather finally responded, but never really answered why I was not provided the services I paid for, although she had no problem taking the money, some would call this fraud. The last straw was her list of excuses, she said you've been replying to "staff@yrts.net, the email they provided me and said to reply to if you have any questions, but the person sending the emails has been out. If that is the case, one would think they would have someone cover that email address in the event people do have questions, plus it's odd that they keep sending me emails from that address, yet "nobody" can answer them. She also tried to say it was the "windows reinstall" excuse, windows expired at the end of 2019, as a tax professional you would think they would've been on top of any software changes/updates well before they expire, remember the emails I rec'd were on 01/02/20 and windows expired at the end of 2019. The last excuse which to me was the PG&E power outages, I thought really, you had power to send out emails, we hadn't had any recent outages that I know about, but why not blame someone else versus yourself for your lack of ethics and professionalism. I'm sure they will reply with their side, so if you need to see the emails, please message me on yelp and I'll send them to you. Do yourself a favor, find someone else! This office does not have their act together and clearly charge me for services they did not provide. You would think in such a small community they would appreciate the fact that I would rather keep my business local. read more

Chose this place based on Yelp reviews. Totally regret it... Called them on March 23 or 24th (can't remember the exact date). Spoke to the woman on the phone and explained that my partner was unexpectedly in the hospital and could not complete his taxes which he usually does on his own. They were fairly simple (only w2) but with some basic needs around HoH and dependents etc. She assured me that they could take them. Brought them in that day and spoke to Marcus and explained my questions. He also said he was confident they could help but would take a few days. I informed them there were very few days that I would be able to take my partner the documents to be signed or get any further info. A week later I called to check and was told they were waiting for info from me. Never received a call from them requesting any info. I kept asking the woman who answered the phone for details and reiterating what I had told them when I dropped the paper work off...was repeatedly put on hold so she could try to translate to someone. Finally Denise got on the phone. I told her again the information. And we made an agreement she would file based on what we knew and the paper work would be done in a couple days. This was on April 3rd. Once again I explained he was in the hospital and we just needed to get them filed. April 7th I still had not heard so I called again. I was AGAIN told they were waiting for info from me (the same info). And I explained I had given the info I had to Denise and she had told me she would file as is and let me know when it was complete. Again I was put on hold and the woman kept trying to be translator between my asking questions and who ever she was talking to. I politely asked to speak to someone and she pretty rudely told me no one was available and asked me what I wanted to do. I told her I wanted to speak to someone and she rudely told me someone would call me. I AGAIN told her that I was running out of time to have my partner sign as he was in the HOSPITAL. She also informed me I owed them $125. When I asked for what reason she couldn't tell me. So I asked her to please have someone call me. It is now April 13th and I have received no call back. To summarize: Called and explained the situation - that he is in the hospital and I have limited info. Simple taxes with some basic questions. Assured it would be done One week passes - no call. I reach out and am told they are waiting for info yet no call asking. Agreement is made to file as is Another week passes - no call. I reach out and am told they are waiting for info from me again (same info) yet no call asking. Am told we owe $125. Can't explain why or when it will be complete. So I ask for return call, still waiting. And now I will not be able to get them signed even if they are complete. Fortunately I found a reputable CPA yesterday who will assist and is caring and empathetic to the situation, knowing I am just trying to help a loved one who is in a traumatic situation. I know it's tax season and people are slammed but this to me is unacceptable. Further the lack of empathy and the rudeness is just wrong. Each time I have called I have been polite. Bummer this went so badly as my own taxes are complex and require quite a bit of work. If this experience had gone well, would have been glad to bring you my business as well. She worked some magic, with some direct communication to State and Fed last year, and saved us some significant money. Overall just excellent people here. My husband and I had our taxes done by Marcus at YRTS for 2015 and 2016. We found him to be nice, sociable, and he did a great job of finding us some extra money on our return; all good things. However, last year we received an audit letter from the IRS, saying they were withholding $2,600 of our federal return. Panicked, we e-mailed and called Marcus, but heard nothing back from him for 10-days. Granted, everyone needs a vacation in life; no big deal, but he didn't seemed too concerned about helping us with the audit. From there on out, we were on our own dealing with it: pages and pages of documents, hours on the phone on hold, all dealing with something that we weren't ultimately responsible for. It was stressful and time-consuming. After nine months of the IRS dealing with our case, we were finally paid our $2,600 return plus interest. No one from YRTS ever followed up with us to ask how things were going during this time. Maybe it was because we don't make a lot of money; maybe they have bigger fish to fry. Whatever the case, it was clear that our audit wasn't of great importance to YRTS, which is why we'll be using a new company for our 2017 taxes. read more

When my previous accountant retired, she recommended Year Round Tax Service. Best recommendation I ever received! Heather has saved me thousands of dollars in taxes over the years since then. She is always friendly, meticulous about detail, and highly informed about tax law. My taxes are already complicated, with a mixture of self employment in three businesses along with a salaried job. Heather negotiates this complexity like a champ and is always prepared to take the time to explain things. She recently spent 90 minutes explaining the details of moving from a sole proprietorship to a corporation, all for a change that will net her a grand total of 15 dollars per quarter. I had my taxes done here last year. First of all, after giving me an appointment time, they screwed that up and I received an e-mail, with no consultation, telling me that my appt. time had been cancelled. I had to call and get an appointment all over again, and the lame apology I got had something to do with "we're using new software for scheduling appointments". Fine. I had my appointment, and found the tax consultant with whom I met to be brusque, unfriendly and unresponsive to the one question which I e-mailed her later. I never got a response--I think that is pretty unprofessional, don't you? She also made an error on my state tax return. This year, being a reasonable sort, I signed up again to have them do my taxes. I was given an appointment time, and guess what? This morning, I got an e-mail telling me that my appointment time had been cancelled, except that the additional mistake was that it was an appointment time with a different tax consultant--not the one I was to meet with there. I called the office, and was told that the appointment they had originally scheduled for me DIDN'T EXIST. This means that when they gave it to me, in December, they DIDN'T PUT IT IN THEIR OWN APPOINTMENT SCHEDULE. And then, guess what? I was given the same lame apology about having new software for scheduling. Really? Two years in a row? Soooo, I'm done. I see that some reviewers think this place is fantastic. Well, that's Yelp for ya. Whatever, I would suggest that you take your business elsewhere. read more

I waited until my father's taxes were e-filed before writing this review. YETS did his estate taxes and his personal taxes. The experience was not good. The estate taxes had to be re-done because of an error; Heather asked me questions that she, as the tax expert, should have known, they asked multiple times for things that I had already given them, and didn't seem to communicate with each other. I do not feel confident that the returns I filed are accurate. I guess I'll find out soon enough. Unless you are a current, satisfied customer, I would suggest going elsewhere. read more

I received an ominous letter from the IRS after a recent home purchase. I couldn't make heads or tails of it and so decided to get in touch with YRTS (for the first time). Went in and met Marcus who decoded the letter and provided guidance. All done within 15 minutes, and because it was such a short conversation it was done at no-charge!
