just now **WARNING** Do not go to this place if you have natural curly hair, thin hair, fragile hair, or want to keep your curl pattern. It seems like they only know how to use excessive heat & chemicals to straighten your hair. I went in for coloring service with Mohammad. My hair was beautifully colored with high and low lights. But overall it was a brassy blonde. I wanted ONE shade cooler and for any colorist this is a fairly simple process. I was initially excited because he has good reviews and recently he created his own blonde hair dye. Upon arriving he sat me down and asked me what I wanted. I told him just a shade cooler which would put me at a light golden blonde. He said ok and was eager to get started. Red flag #1 We did a strand test to see how my hair would respond. He let the strain sit for about 30 mins. The strand was platinum blonde. I specifically told him. I do not want my hair this light. So let's leave it on for less time. He He goes on to explain that he has to lift my hair up in order to deposit the color. This would be true if I had virgin hair or dark hair. My hair had already been bleached so I certainly didn't not 30 minutes of bleach. Red flag #2 I questioned his technique when he began parting my hair without detangling first. He did not detangle my hair before applying the color so as he was applying the color he's tearing my hair apart. His hair dye he created is very drying so I could hear my hair tearing and snapping from my scalp. I asked him if he was going to detangle and he said no it would take too long. Red flag #3 As he is dying my hair he is also dying someone else's hair. I was a bit nervous because he was dying her platinum blonde. And I told him again. I do not want my hair that color. He assured me that it wouldn't be. Despite my requests he leaves the bleach on for 30 minutes. He rinses my hair and it feels like hay. So dry & brittle! I was highly disappointed because my hair was platinum blonde with a green tint. So then he puts a toner on my hair and get this black toner on my roots because he wanted it to match my brows ‍. I had just had my brows microshaded so they were super dark. But I did not ask him to keep my roots dark. I went in for a touch up why wouldn't I want my roots touched up??!! After all the dying was done, my hair was coming out in chunks. I've always had pretty thick hair but after that, I could feel and see my scalp. I was so upset, I began to cry. He keep telling me this is what I asked for. After I said more than once I do not want to be platinum. Even after applying the toner my hair was an ugly platinum blonde with a green hue and black roots. I looked a hot ass mess. He took absolutely no accountability and didn't even express the slightest bit of remorse. Black women, we have to stop letting other people experiment with us. They really think we all have the same hair texture. They have no clue of the difference in textures, curl patterns, porosity. They don't care if our hair is fried or unhealthy afterwards. They don't protect the curl pattern, the actually ruin it. I stopped going to them before when they burned my hair using that blow dryer too close and too long. You're hair will be thin and fragile if you continue to let these people do your hair. I take accountability for not going to an actual colorist who has experience coloring curly hair. read more

I previously went to this Yehia and had a wonderful experience. Lionell gave me a touch up, wash and style and did a great job. I had a sat appt. July 2011and was seated quickly. A family member came to visit him while he was working on my hair, but that was not a problem. Fast forward to Sept 2011. I made an appt. with Lionell for 10 am, showed up at 9:30 am because i was in the area. I finally left that place at 11:30 am because, apparently, the stylists were too busy to keep my appt. I understand things get busy but why take appointments if they take 1 1/5 hours to keep them??? Ridiculous! at 11 am, 1 hour after my appointment time, i finally asked them to just sit me with anyone that was available. 30 minutes after that, I finally left. I could understand waiting forever as a walk in, but this appointment was scheduled well in advance. I'm never going to this place again. read more

I wanted to like this place so bad. The people at the front desk were so nice. The girl that washed, detangled and blowdried my hair was amazing... The "stylist" Ashley though???? Please don't go here for a sew in. Why did they tell me that they could help me (braid my hair down so I can put my wig on) and then do the most BOGUS braids?!?? What a long overdue review. I have been coming here for over 10 years. This salon has a professional yet family oriented environment. Every stylist is courteous, genuine and professional. I have never had to deal with any confusion while working with the stylist here. The main person I got to is Aymen, he takes the time to listen to what your concerns are and makes sure to understand exactly what you want. He is a GURU with color and natural hair. I won't be returning to this salon. I came here as a last resort because I couldn't decide on a reasonably-priced salon that specializes in natural hair, so I came to this location close to my house. I specified that I have natural hair when I called the shop to come in. All they asked was, "who is your stylist?" to which I replied, "I don't have one, this is my first time." The experience was horrible because they were way too rough with my hair and it was clear they know nothing about how to treat natural hair. The man who washed my hair (unfortunately I didn't catch his name but he was older, very short grey hair and grey eyes) was sooo rough and started the wash process by combing my hair... From the roots. Natural ladies, STAY AWAY!! Also, for the conditioning process my shoulder length curls were not covered with a plastic cap or anything, I was just put under a hot dryer so my roots and forehead were hot (almost too hot! I had to keep moving around) and the rest was untouched. Lastly, the man who blow dried and straightened my hair (his name was Aymen) was slightly better, but that's not saying much. He seemed confident that he could do natural hair, and I liked the result (hence the 1 star), but it was not as gentle as it could have been and the heat was very high! My hair is bone straight (for those of you that do hair typing, I have 4b hair), but it still has a burnt smell. NEVER. AGAIN. I will gladly play more money for a natural hair salon in the future. read more

Came in to see hair stylist, Aymen who also specializes in color. He was very professional and welcoming. My hair was dyed and styled for a very reasonable price. (Especially for my hair type: thick and long). The salon itself was very clean and neat. They also offer a variety of products for hair in order to further maintain hair, they will handpick products to ensure your hair last longer which most salons will not do. The salon is definitely a relaxing environment that I wouldn't hesitate to return to. I would easily recommend this salon to my natural hair girls! read more

She put it on my hair and threw the tiny unmarked bottle away. after my hair was styled and blow-dried I noticed 2 huge bald spots near the temples of my head. I am so disappointed with the work that was done on my hair. I went there for the first time to get a sew-in weave because their prices were slightly cheaper than the person I usually go to. I got there at 1:00 for my appointment, but wasn't seen until 1:50 p.m. The stylist I saw was sooo slow; not only was she talking and texting on her cell phone while doing my hair, she decided to take a lunch break once she was half way done. I was just so shocked that she thought this was OK, she told me to have a seat while she took a lunch. Umm shouldn't you plan your appointments around you lunch break? If the work that was done on my hair wasn't so bad, all would have been forgiven, but i wouldn't be writing if it was. It's been only two week and my tracks are falling down? WTF?.. I've gotten weaves since I was in HS and some of them done by relatives and I have NEVER EVER seen a track fall down. Yehia.. i want my money back!!! read more

Zero stars is what I would rank this salon. I was referred to this salon by a good friend of mine because she has had the same stylist there for over 5 years and her hair always looks amazing. She told me the type of treatment she gets, which was a keratin at the price of $250. After doing a little research about a keratin I thought it would be beneficial to my hair. I went in, and the lead stylist asked me when was the last time I had a relaxer, and I told him about 7-8 months and he stated it might be too soon, and I asked was it going to be ok to still get it and he said yes. He would put it heavy on top and light at the bottom and I said it was cool. After blow drying my hair I asked him how did it turn out and he said good. I was like ok cool. Next, I got my hair flat ironed and was told to come back in 3 days to get my hair rinsed and styled again. when I left I noticed my hair felt a little funny and my roots and edges weren't quite straight, so I told myself maybe after I get it styled it would look better in 3 days.. When I returned I still wasn't content, and I left not knowing that same day as I sweated at the gym my hair would puff up. When I returned in two weeks I complained about my edges and the stylist told me to get some edge control (Black Jamaican edge control), and I complained about my roots and he said its going to take a while for my hair to be trained with the keratin. I returned at least two more times to get my hair styled and it was a complete mess and I complained every time, and there was always a horrible excuse. So as in expert, I feel like he really failed at providing me a proper consultation and being honest. In June I went to the salon to talk to the lead stylist and complained telling him I wanted a relaxer because that will probably respond better in my hair, I am use to relaxers and I would prefer that over the keratin. He told me that I probably have a lot of new growth and that the keratin should have lasted way He told me to wait at least 2-3 weeks more weeks before he could do the relaxer and he recommended me getting braids. After complaining about the price I paid for the treatment He said when I came back he would take care of the treatment and the style when I returned and I stated cool. When I returned 4 weeks later, I asked him how much would I have to pay and he said the relaxer is 30 and the style is 50 its gonna be 80. I said the last time I talked to you, you said you were going to take care of me. He said well if its 80 do you want to pay 75. Yes, I looked at him like he was crazy and I said... thats not what you told me you would take care of me. He said when I say I am going to take of someone I mean I'll give them a discount but if you get a service here you have to pay..He asked me how much did I want to pay and what will make me happy? I said well I paid 250 for a service that didn't work in my head but whatever, so we negotiated a little and he said he wouldn't charge me for the relaxer. I told him it was cool if I have to pay for the entire service I didn't care I just wanted my hair done correctly. he began to tell me that "you have to remember that your hair is thicker and your hair was in a different condition than most people's." I said as a hair stylist you should have said that before I got the treatment. If I wasn't a good candidate say something.But to continue I get a relaxer in my hair, get it blow dried and styles. Wasn't completely satisfied but I was just happy my hair would freeze up. (mind you this is on a Thursday). I wasn't satisfied because he put so much oil in my hair and I was confused on why he did that because now my hair is stiff not even exaggerating. Wash my hair on Thursday and noticed I only had relaxer on the roots and tips of my hair, he didn't go down far enough to get all of my new growth and natural hair. Talk about being pissssssssed.... I am so freaking pissed off Because as an expert he should have realized that when he rinsed the relaxer out of my hair or while he was blow drying it and said something, like hey I didn't go far down enough, I'll have to do it again in a few weeks. No instead he tried to cover it up and by straightening it as much as he could but applying more grease. I am 100% over this place and I would never recommend anyone to this stylish Jacking people heads up and won't even take the fault for his wrong doings. I've been going to this salon for at least 10 years. Lately customer service has been horrible!!!!! Twice I've made an appointment with the same stylist and both times he was not there when I showed up. They asked me did I make an appointment......of course!!!! Today I get there an my stylist has left. I told them not only did I make an appointment a week ago, but my stylist took the call. I was told that they would call him. After a few minutes I asked did they call. I was told that they called him and he should be here in a while. After about 20 minutes someone comes over and tells me that they could not reach him. Why I asked was I not told that when I asked the first time. I am PISSED!!!!!!!!!! No apologies or any care about me waiting. Then they tell me I was in the book for 4pm. I NEVER make a 4pm appointment. It's always at 5 because I don't get off until 4. Of course no one will call to apologize for the inconvenience because they could care less!!! I'm sure this will be spelled wrong, but my stylist name is maamdule and that is ridiculous!!!! Don't waste your time here because they clearly don't care about their customers!!!! read more

I've been coming to this place off and on for 20 years. I've seen various hair dressers be groomed from shampoo guys to stylists and they all had a lot of talent. It's been changing quite a bit and my last few visits have been less than superior because they don't seem to be good managers of their time. What used to be a place that was not only known for quality hair care or styling but also not being tied up all day in the shop, is now a thief of people's valuable time. I am so disappointed in the fact that when they try to be accommodating they don't know to be honest and tell you they're overbooked and you might be waiting. I think it's only fair to communicate that to your customers so they can know what they've signed up for, whether they have an appointment or a walk in, the best thing you can do for your customers is communicate properly and tell them what to expect! There have been a few times I have given in and gone with someone more novice that I didn't have an appointment with because I needed to maintain my schedule. Sometimes it is ok to wait when you know that's what you signed up for, but again the shop should tell you that instead of just assuming you've got nothing but time just because they're good or popular or tied up. Also it is advised never to tell a customer they should be ok with waiting just because you're overbooked or because of how the customer obtained their appointment. Overbooking and lack of communication is the problem, not how the customer made the appointment. You owe it to valued and paying customers to be upfront with them even if you want to be accommodating so they can decide what will work for them. I would think a client whose family has paid for service from this establishment since 1996 and referred several dozen clients would be considering valued. Again when you can finally get in their chair they do great work but don't plan on having a life that day. read more
