I asked the dispatcher if she could give me a fixed rate or minimally a quote: She wouldn't. For me, a woman coming from out of town, it did not give me the assurance I needed that, things would go well, if I couldn't be given the courtesy of a fixed rate or minimally, a quote up front. That lack of transparency was a big red flag. I crossed them off my list. I then called Coastal Cab and spoke with Adam, the dispatcher. I asked him for a fixed rate and he said, "Of course," and guaranteed the ride would cost $50 from the Del Cerro neighborhood to the airport. I made the reservation and called about 30 minutes before my pick-up time, just to ensure I was on their list for a ride at that time and he assured me I was and the driver showed up exactly at the requested time. The cab (a Prius) was clean and the driver (Jamal) was friendly, a good listener and most importantly, reliable and safe. It seems to me that it's rare these days to have such an experience of competence and ease with making arrangements with a new business, but Adam and Jamal made things seamless for me. I will absolutely call Coastal Cab in the future, next time I'm in San Diego and need a lift.

I used the mobile app because that's how I like to book a reservation for a cab. It is simple easy and has a "repeat ride" option that I use almost 90% of the time. Back to the reason for this negative review. So I made the reservation at 6:45ish. Within 5minutes a cab driver called me to tell me he was on his way, which was peculiar because that hasn't happened before. 6 minutes after that I received a tex message from the company saying my car was arriving. I picked up my purse made it to the door and my phone rang it was the cab driver for car 4169 again telling me he was pulling in I said ok and continued to walk out the door. The stairs are immediately in front of my door, I didn't get half way down the stairs and the cab driver of car #4169 called me again. I could see the parking lot and the car had not yet arrived. I walked down the stairs to the parking lot as he started to pull in my phone rang again for the 4th time in under 10 minutes it was very excessive. I didn't answer because I was approaching the car. I got in and immediately he asked where are you going twice before I could answer. I said "Walmart please and then I need you to wait 5-6 minutes and then take me back to my room." While I was answering his question he was ignoring me and fooling with his Bluetooth ear piece. He asks again I tell him again and he proceeds telling me "I know where to go" as we continue I notice he was in the wrong lane and we needed to turn right. He couldn't get over even though he tried again and again until I felt uneasy and said "just go up to the third light and turn right". Now he had raised my fare since we didn't take the fastest route. We got to Walmart he pulled up across from the front doors of Walmart and tells me to pay my fare. I said "I told you I needed you to wait while I go inside and come back out so I can get a ride back" he replied in an irritable anxious voice "how long how long!" I told him 5 minutes and went into Walmart I was at the counter 2 minutes and he called me. "When are you coming when are you coming" he said. "I have been here 2 minutes I will be out asap"I replied. I hung the phone up continued my transaction and he kept calling and calling. I came out 5 minutes just like I had said originally and he started shouting out the window "where is my money where is my money!!! angrily at that. I asked him " aren't you taking me back?" He replied "get in" When I got in he started to chastise me. He says I need to tell him exactly how long I will be if he has to wait. I became so uncomfortable I tossed the money on the seat and got out. As I walked away he shouted "F@!& you" and drove away. So please people take heed and do not ride in Yellow Cab #4169.
