Cinnamon French Toast and a London Fog
    Julie D.

The french toast was delicious! The piece of bread was HUGE and fluffy, and the mascarpone on top and maple syrup on the side were tasty additions. I also got a london fog that was really good. It was pretty busy when I was there around 11:30 on a Sunday, but there was one open table that my friend and I were able to grab. Our food didn't take too long to come out despite it being pretty busy. I really liked the atmosphere of Mediterra Cafe, and the surrounding area is really cute too! I'd like to come back to try some more of their menu. The pizzas looked awesome!

30 min drive from Pittsburgh to give this a try in a snowy/wet Saturday ... and it did not disappoint! Not always a fan of French toast - have to really be in the mood .. but this was fantastic! We got there .. parked (street parking -meter) and went inside.. as sooN as you walk in you can smell and feel this is going to be good. There was a line and the cafe had a lot of people in itt but we found a table for two nestled in the corner rand took out chai latte and sat down to await the yummies we were in store for. I loved the presentation when it Finally arrived - a wood board with a small cast I iron skillet that had the yummies piece of French toast I have ever had. It was made with a raisin bread - syrup on the side and a doollip of mascarpone in top This little cafe hits it out of the park! Thanks for hosting an elite event to remember and keep folks coming Bacchae to!

I'm going to preface this by saying I'm not a huge fan of French toast. I feel that it is usually flat, soggy, and lacks flavor; however, this is not the case for the French Toast at Mediterra Cafe! My French toast came out in a little cast iron skillet and was as thick as could be! The inside was fluffy and delicious, while the outside has a carmalized crunch to it! In addition to the unbelievable French toast, the staff was so kind! They were very welcoming and quick to help out whenever needed! When ordering my latte, the cashier was quick to recommend the oat milk alternative which tasted as gold as the almond milk I'm used to!! I will definitely return to Mediterra Cafe, and I will probably bring some friends with me next time! I loved the ambiance, and am eager to try their other food options (esp. the quiche)! Thank you Yelp for introducing me to this hidden gem, and thank you Mediterra Cafe for the superior experience!

The French Toast was so good! A very generous portion of bread, with mascarpone on top and delicious maple syrup. I also had a tasty gingerbread latte. I appreciate that all their espresso-based drinks can be made decaf. Mediterra has expanded their seating area since I was here last, and it definitely helped!

January was full of individual Yelp events, including this one! This time, Elite Yelpers had the opportunity to enjoy a complimentary french toast dish at this charming cafe. I hadn't been here since Yelp's 2018 holiday event, so I was happy to come back and see how they're doing. And they are doing quite well - even after expanding their business into a neighboring space, the cafe was PACKED for Saturday brunch as couples, families, and friends made their way in. I braved the line and showed the team my Yelp offer for French Toast, purchased some cake pops to-go while I was there, and then managed to find a tiny table in a corner of the bustling cafe. Understandably, I waited (not an unreasonable amount of time!) to receive my breakfast of Challah toast with mascarpone and local maple syrup. It arrived in a personal cast iron skillet that I had to be careful not to touch! Possibly unpopular opinion here: I thought the toast was a little bland. I was very happy I got to sample it, but I remember thinking that I really couldn't taste any cinnamon or anything like that. More spices like that would definitely have better balanced out the Challah and syrup. As it was, my very sweet breakfast was closer to average than amazing in taste. And admittedly, the table and chair I sat at wasn't the most comfortable in the world; but given the size of Mediterra's space, I get why they chose their furnishings to maximize capacity. I ended up leaving right after I ate my french toast, as I didn't feel like waiting in Mediterra's long line a second time. I'll have to come back though! Mediterra is still a charming cafe with a wonderful grocery area, and I know from personal experience how savory some of their other menu offerings are. Not only do I need to sample more at Mediterra; I need to stroll through the area when it's not a miserable winter day in Pittsburgh. Overall, a very solid addition to the Yelp experience. My thanks to our community managers and to Mediterra for their work and hospitality!

I haven't been to Mediterra Cafe since the last Elite event held here over a year ago but believe me it did not disappoint! The first thing I noticed upon entering was that they expanded their seating area into another room. I wanted to interview the founder and owner Nick A but learned he was off this week. The counter lady explained to me that about a month or so ago they expanded their business into the site that formerly housed the "B cafe." Although the venue is still small, I didn't get that cramped in feeling I used to when I was here before. The imported cheeses and charcuterie meats are in that room. The cheeses come from Europe and are high end but they are truly worth an investment. My perk entitled me to the baked French toast which was made with challah bread, pears, cranberries, mascarpone, and a side of local maple syrup. After ordering I was given a number and sat anywhere. While I was waiting for my meal I was glancing around. They still have the imported olive oils and pasta for sale as well as honeys and other quality grocery items for purchase. My French toast was served in a cast iron skillet with a big dollop of mascarpone cheese on top. It was very hot but not to the point that I couldn't enjoy every bit of it. the challah was thick and the cranberries and pears inside were delicious!! Needless to say it was a meal in itself! When I was finished I decided to order takeout. Since the business is family oriented everything here is made in house. The pizza was tempting but instead I decided to get the sprouted grain salad for next meal. Made with sweet potatoes and various grains, it can be dressed up with various meats or upon request made vegan if you let them know ahead of time. The pizzas are handcrafted by Nick's son who works in their Bakehouse. I asked about my favorite bread which is chocolate cherry and learned that it is a seasonal bread and will probably be available next month. They have gluten free options which include desserts both made in house and also supplied by Gluten free goat bakery. As far as their spectacular desserts goes, they are by far huge and full of made from scratch goodness. The expansion of the cafe was really an added touch and I want to thank YELP as always for giving me the opportunity to try one of their breakfast entrees. Mediterra baked goods are sold at different venues and can be purchased in some grocery stores. Their breads can be ordered both here and at their main bakehouse. Their main bakehouse is located on the outskirts of Crafton, PA on Parkway View Dr. Online ordering for both places is available. Mediterra cafe is located on Beaver St in the heart of the Sewickley business district. Metered street parking is available.

Fantastic food and experience! This restaurant is along the cute stretch of shops in Sewickley. Obviously a beloved stop for coffee, tea, breakfast, and snacks by the crowd of happy customers entering and sitting inside the restaurant. The cinnamon french toast was delicious! It was make fresh, served on a hot skillet with a side of syrup and scoop of mascarpone. The bread itself was incredibly fresh and melted in my mouth, yet held up its structure to not fall apart after pouring syrup on top. It was a very thick slice and contained raisins inside the dough that nicely complemented the sugar and cinnamon topping. Left me feeling full and happy! Service was quick, especially for Sunday brunch, the tables were clean, and the atmosphere was welcoming to stay and enjoy a conversation after your meal. Definitely a wonderful spot to grab brunch.

We absolutely love going to Mediterra Cafe ever since we went to their Yelp Elite event around a year ago! This time we noticed they expabded out their seating area and have a new counterspace to showcase their wonderful array of meats and cheeses. One of the workers there said that eventually they will condense the meat and cheese cases and provide a spot for quick and go type foods! We arrived on a snowy and rainy Saturday morning surprised to find the cafe was packed, despite being so, we were able to grab a table shortly after ordering. We course ordered the Cinnamon French Toast, along with a hefty slice of Pepperoni pizza, and a matcha latte, and a regular latte. The lattes were absolutely beautiful and incredibly delicious! The beans are from Parlor Coffee in NY and I believe you can buy them from Mediterra Cafe as well. I also saw that they had beans from Sant Eustachio which was one of my favorite espresso bars to visit in Rome (nice now I won't have to travel across the Atlantic to get some delicious beans). Our pizza and french toast arrived shortly afterwards, and wow were they incredible! Cinnamon and raisins spread throughout a giant piece of toasted challah bread topped with a deliciously whipped marscapone. The syrup they gave was amazing as well, runny and sweet with almost a slight ginger kick! The pizza was something else, a thick slice with a light airy dough and just the perfect amount of tangy sauce - it'll be hard to not order a slice each visit from now on! Can't wait to come back, they are definitely a local favorite and I'm glad to see them doing so well. Their attention to detail, providing the absolute best quality ingredients, and broad range of options makes this a fantastic place for breakfast and lunch!

I attended this event with two friends. It was my first trip to Mediterra. We shared the free cinnamon French toast (which was amazing by the way). The bread was super thick and has raisins in it. It came with butter on top and a little side of honey. They both got the avocado toast and raved about it! I purchased the eggplant brunch sandwich. It was a lot bigger than I expected! It was a bit to much bread for my taste. I think it would have been perfect as a toast or an open faced sandwich. The peppermint matcha was very nice! A hint of honey would have made it perfect! They could use a bit more seating. Overall a good experience! Definitely would like to go back.

Maple Latte and Jasmine Pearls Tea
    Caitie Z.

My husband and I had not been to Mediterra since the last Yelp Elite event. I was excited to come back as I knew they had expanded and many of my patients were raving about their products. We came on Saturday around lunchtime and the place was packed! We hopped in line right away and surveyed the new space. The cheese counter was now located in the new half of the cafe, with a huge display case and a section with cheese that you can grab and go. They had more seating options ranging from booths and tables to a hightop option. Their baked goods, pizza and breads were displayed behind the main counter where you ordered. Shelves around the cafe were filled with small business products and their own products. Several items on the menu were sold out, however that did not bother us as we knew we were having the cinnamon french toast. We each ordered a drink to go along with our meal - I had Jasmine Pearls loose leaf tea and my husband had the Maple Latte, a special for the day. After ordering, we were able to snag a table as people were leaving. The drinks came out first- my steeping tea in a cute teapot on a tray that could be refilled with hot water if asked. The french toast came out in a small, hot cast iron skillet with maple syrup in a small mason jar all placed on a wooden tray. I absolutely loved the presentation! As for the french toast itself, it was deceivingly a huge, thick piece of bread filled with spices and fruit. It was topped with marscarpone which melted as you ate. It was so yummy and filling. I was very pleased. Everything in the cafe is a bit pricey but I do not have a problem supporting a local, small business. The owners son was working the cash register and he was very patient, calmly answering all of our questions despite the length of the line. I was impressed with his demeanor. He even came out checked on people, making sure they enjoyed their meals, asking if they need anything, and taking away empty mugs/plates. I was just as impressed with this place as I was at the last event. The food, products, service, and new space make me want to come back in the future!

What a cute place! It made me feel like I was in Boston. It has that urban and eccentric vibe. I love that you can tell your baked French toast was baked from scratch! My chai latte was a bit too foamy and not flavorful enough for my taste. So glad we stopped by, definitely wouldn't have known this place if not for the yelp event. Would definitely come back next time I'm in the area.

Mediterra is a cute café that I wouldn't have known about, had it not been for Yelp. I ordered at the counter and found a seat, and the French toast was brought to me. I thought it was delicious. I liked the taste of the bread by itself as well as with their toppings. They dress it up with mascarpone, dusted sugar, and put the maple syrup on the side. I used about a quarter of the maple syrup; I think less could have been offered so there isn't so much waste. The French toast is not as sweet as I thought it might be, a good thing. What intrigues me about the café is their bread menu. I really wanted to try the "Red Fife" which is made with Mediterra's own wheat, milled by them into flour. I give them major kudos for doing something so high effort in order to put out a quality product. They were sold out, so I decided to get my second choice, the pecan cranberry loaf. I was amazed to read that the levain (sourdough) starter used to make this loaf -- and many of their others -- came from a bakery in Paris 60 years ago! You can taste the sour flavor in the bread boosted by tart cranberries. The bread is dense, chewy, yet moist. It's really addictive. I'm coming back here to try more bread!

I stopped by here two Thursdays ago by myself for lunch. The reason that I decided to come to Mediterra is that it was Yelp Elite there and so they were offering a free cinnamon French toast. I had been to Mediterra once before as part of a Yelp elite event but haven't been back since. The main restaurant/store hasn't really changed much since then still having a ton of luxury grocery items for sale along with a bunch of prepared food items, coffee and breads. The floor is a tiled black and white pattern and they have a number of display cases with lots of baked goods. Their menu is hanging on a couple of different walls and so you can prepare what to order while waiting in line. Mediterra is the type of place where you place your order at the register and then take your number to a table where your food is delivered to you. What was different about the restaurant this time is that I was able to see a second room which wasn't open during our Yelp event. This room had a lot more seating in it as well as some more dry goods as well as a display case full of imported meats and cheeses. On the day that I was there the place was packed and I was lucky to get the last available table in this room which was a small two-top. For lunch on this day I decided to go with the complimentary cinnamon French toast as well as a piece of Calabrian sausage pizza. Since this is for the Yelp Elite week page, I will only write about the cinnamon french toast here and will write about the pizza on their normal page. Whenever the French toast came out I was impressed by the thick slab of bread that composed it as well as the fun presentation in the mini cast iron skillet which was still hot. The bread had a nice and crispy exterior while the interior was soft and full of delicious cinnamon and raisins. It also came topped with whipped cream and a side of syrup. The whipped cream was nice and light but had a good flavor and when combined with the French toast made it taste almost like a cinnamon bun. Then the syrup is what you would expect of a maple syrup which is very sweet. Due to that I didn't really use much of it on my French toast but I could see those sweet lovers really enjoying it on top. The bottom line for me is that I would come back here again in the future. The food was good and this was a nice Elite Event Week. Possibly the best part about it is that it reminded me of Mediterra and got me talking about it with my wife.

But what really got me jazzed was the next morning as I was commuting to work, I heard Randy Baumann, host of the DVE Morning Show on WDVE, talk about attending a fund raiser the previous night at Scratch. He went on and on about how great everything tasted and how the owners locally sourced their ingredients and did wonderful things for the community. Then he dropped a bomb, more like a cricket and mealworm bomb. He explained that they use crickets and mealworms as a protein supplement and they are organic and he raved they tasted great. To most people, including myself I don't have an interest in eating bugs. However, I thought, if picked to participate in this event, as they say when in Rome, I would eat some bugs. To my pleasant surprise all samples offered that evening were bug free! Speaking of samples, they were all delicious. All but the third sample was vegetarian. I noticed, as the owner pointed out when he delivered his speech, that they offer a lot of vegetarian options. We has a fried risotto ball, a mushroom goat cheese crostini, a cracker with pulled pork, and a shortbread cookie at the end for dessert. We were also given two cocktails that were invented specifically for this occasion. I liked the first one best, finding the latter to be a little on the sweet side. I had a great time seeing some Yelp friends and I was so happy to hear Don, the owner, explain the concept behind his establishment and how passionate they are about the community. Best part about Elite Events in my opinion. We also heard from the chef, and bartender. Really fantastic event, I look forward to going back. Thanks Scratch, Rachel C, and Yelp, awesome event!

First impressions were the space was small and intimate, with a lovely outdoor seating area and a modern looking downstairs where we yelpers gathered to enjoy the evening. Since that area was a tad small we were pretty packed in there, sardine like. Wait times for drinks was a tad on the excessive side since only one bartender was serving the masses. She was very nice though and well deserving of the tip we gave. The complimentary drinks were not my favorite though and I wouldn't order them again. The one drink I did purchase wasn't bad but more on the meh side. Strong though so that's a plus. My favorite food samples were the wild Columbian river salmon Nigiri, the edamame hummus, and the fried tofu. The Salmon topped this list as it was fresh and satisfying. I could have just eaten a plate of that and I would have been good. The hummus was very tasty, but they dished a big spoon of hummus and only supplied a few plantains chips. So there was a lot of wasted hummus. The bit of fried tofu was a nice sweet way of ending the samples. Since I am not into fried or sweet things this small portion worked. I have to agree with others that with the space constraint and the way everything was managed it was a bit clumsy. The samples, like the drinks came slowly, but I am not one to kick a gift horse in the mouth. I enjoyed most of the food, and may make a return trip probably for brunch. However, I would have preferred to hear it during the event, since it is always nice to hear about a business and what they have to offer, in order to encourage me to want to come back. The food industry is quite competitive, so it always helps to make yourself stand-out. Yelp events are a great way to meet-up with fellow yelpers and try new places. This event succeeded in this regard. I had a great time, the staff worked very hard to keep us going. Unfortunately, interaction between the staff and their yelper guests were at a bare minimum. PAN looks like it has a lot to offer, and I am glad I had the opportunity to be part of the night. I have attended a handful of yelp events, and they were superior in every way, so I have to admit that this event cannot compare to these past experiences. Confusion and the lack of communication interferes with the flow of an event this size. Many thanks to the organizers and staff for a night out with fellow yelpers, and for providing some very tasteful dishes. The fried tofu and edamame hummus were my two favorites.

I could go on and on about how well this event went. Certainly a well-planned night with the right amount of energy, flow and excitement. I always considered Bonefish Grill a classy, relaxing place to dine, so I was really surprised to see how many Yelpers have never been here until tonight. I never realized they originated in Florida, nor did I know they have a nice selection of inhouse infused cocktails. Their passion for their food and drink creations are on-going and certainly makes the invitation to return even more exciting. Thank you Yelp, and an even bigger thank you to the Bonefish Grill team for making this night one of the best events yet!

I was super excited to try burgers! The first sample that I received was the jalapeno burger. WOW. Delicious! The sauce was incredible! I definitely want to go back there and order one asap. I was lucky enough to receive two of the sample burgers and they were definitely the star of all of the samples in my eyes. I was also impressed how well the mini burgers were cooked. A tiny bit of pink and really juicy! Delish! Next, I tried their crab cake on a bun. Considering I am not the biggest fan of seafood and this was literally my first time trying a crab cake, I had nothing to compare it to. I liked it- but couldn't finish it because I thought it tasted a little fishy. The shrimp and grits was awesome! I recently visited the Outer Banks and saw shrimp and grits at basically every restaurant- but did not order it. I was excited to see they serve it at Benjamins! It was delicious- the shrimp was prepared right and wasn't fishy at all. The grits were really tasty too. Antny's ice cream.... omg the ice cream! Thick, cream cheese consistency almost, real apple pieces... apple pie in ice cream form. WOW. I was obsessed. I need to visit Antny's ASAP before they close for the season! It was awesome! Drinks! The Avery Brewery IPA was hoppy but also had a malty undertone that I wasn't a huge fan of. I enjoyed it though, I love trying new beers! The sangria was awesome! I agree with Kimberly B. in saying that a buffet style would have been awesome and a little easier, rather than the wait staff having to hand deliver each item while they were busy in the restaurant- which is why I took off one star. There was plenty of food for everyone though and the food was delivered hot and fresh- which is definitely better than the potential of cold food in a buffet. It was an AWESOME event! Thank you Rachel C for setting it all up! I defintely plan on returning to Benjamins soon! I know my boyfriend is going to love their burgers! The restaurant staff was awesome and very professional as well! Can't wait to go back! P.S The chapstick is awesome! I love the passion fruit flavor!

Scoping Benjamin's I was assured we would be able to mingle, eat, and enjoy what I was hoping to be a Pirate victory all in the same night... Two out of three ain't bad right Meatloaf? Yes I would have much preferred the trifecta for the night but sadly it ended with a loss, at least at the stadium nearby... Moving on. This was our first visit to Benjamin's. The streets were packed with fans attending said game so parking was more challenging than I am certain almost any other night of the year. However we, as other pointed out, just had to circle the streets of the North Side a few times to find a spot. We arrived early and sat at the bar to enjoy some drinks and comradery with local Pirate fans. When it was time to start we made our way up the steps to the semi-private area where the other yelpers flocked to. We grabbed a couple drinks and made our way toward a back area since the area where the couches were located were occupied. We met up with Tim W. a well-known Elitist and had the opportunity to actually meet and chat. One of my favorite things about the events are meeting all the great yelpers in the community and enjoying the events with them. We also got to see Aj S and share several laughs as he is always a blast to be around. I think the major thing that the event lacked was the restraint of the vulture yelpers that hovered near the pool table and cleared out the sample trays before they made their way about the room. I have read the suggestions of other yelpers that a buffet may have helped this dilemma. I honestly don't think so. Free buffets bring out the worst in some people.. We were given tickets for drinks, so why not for food? Ah ha! Now we are talking... Anyhow that was the main drawback, since many trays were devoured right at their beginning destination we did miss some of the initial samplings. However, what eventually made its way around ended up being pretty darn scrumptious. The first thing that came our way was a smoked salmon with, capers and aioli, on a crostini. It was very good reminiscent of a lox and bagel. The next tray that came about was Shrimp and Grits served on a spoon for one bit sample. The corn grits had a habanero cheese in them and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. Such a balance of heat and flavor this was one of my favorite things, the perfect bite! I will order it when I visit again. A Veggie Slider tray made with Balsamic-Rosemary Goat Cheese & Granny Smith Apple chickpeas, and veggies made its way to us next. It was ok, had some good flavor, just wouldn't see me ever ordering it, but great option for those who are not carnivorous. Unlike the others at my table I did get to sample one of the pulled pork sliders with slaw, very good. We also got a crab cake slider, which was not my favorite, however I heard others signing praises so again just a personal palate opinion. I think like many others our favorite and winner of the evenings offerings was the candied jalapeno slider with candied jalapeno cream cheese & apple wood smoked bacon, taste buds were in awe. So, so very good. Definitely will pair well with the grits upon return visit. Lastly we got a bowl of Anthony's ice cream with three flavors, apple pie, ginger and one of pumpkin. I tasted each but opted to give them to Matt as he has a sweet tooth that won't stop and honestly I was feeling full only after single samples, so I can only image how the folks that attacked the waiters were feeling. We had a really nice time here, up to that Pirate loss when we packed up our ball and went home. Thanks Rachel for organizing the event and Benjamin's for all your tasty treats, see you at the next event

The store is on the small side but has a great selection. They have cupcakes, candy truffles and ice cream among other things. Everything looked amazing. The gal behind the counter was super friendly and extremely helpful. I would definitely go back again for some more chocolate. The only negative is he parking, If you are already downtown defiantly stop in and check it out. It can be hard to find a parking spot anywhere around except in a lot which is not cheap if you are only coming for chocolate. Overall service was fantastic store has a great selection and chocolate was delicious.

I circled around the area many times and ended up setting for a spot that wasn't exactly a spot while I ran in to avoid the $15 fee at the parking garages. When I entered, I told the woman I was there for my Yelp truffles. She redeemed my offer and handed me the premade panic of 4 truffles. I immediately asked her if any of them were peanut butter and she said, "oh no none of them are." When I got to the car, I immediately opened my truffles because like I said earlier, I really love chocolate. I smelled the first piece and knew it was peanut butter. I then found the "menu" on the back of the package. The truffles consisted of: peanut butter, espresso, fudge, and Guinness stout. I knew the only one I'd like would be the fudge, so I chose to eat it in the car. It was good, but the chocolate was not milky enough for my liking. Knowing your product is a very big deal, especially in today's day and age because of all of the food allergies. If I would've know the assortment, I definitely would've purchased other truffles that I know I would've liked to try and give a fair trial. I would rate this event a 3.5/5.
