No complaints, one of the better curry houses I've had in the area. Reasonable prices and portions. Has become my curry go-to.

I've tried ordering at other Nepali restaurants, but it just wasn't right.

I also ordered the poppadom, which I had never seen before so I wanted to give it a shot. I'm not sure if it's just how it is, but I wasn't really a fan of it. But it was still interesting to try something new! I can't speak for the staff or the restaurant since I ordered to-go.

As Indians, we're shamelessly inexperienced with Nepalese dining so on our recent jaunt to Oxford,…read moremy husband and I decided to stop by Kadai & Naan for a bite to eat to see what all the fuss was about. Kadai & Naan is NOT in the city centre, so if you're hoping to walk there, you are going to be in for an extended walk and tired feet. We drove and it was easy to find. Thank goodness. Parking is available on the street, but it isn't plentiful - go a bit early and park with that in mind. It took a while for us to get seated and there was no where for us to sit in the meantime so we very awkwardly watched others eat but of course, they seemed to be enjoying themselves, so no worries. We were happy to wait. Once seated, it took a while to get a drink order in but we ordered two Gurkhas (without realizing the size) as we are very inexperienced with Nepali beer. Yum! We ordered the momos (vegetarian) and the veg puree. Let me say, the momos were nice and the sauce was bright and refreshing. The veg puree is a sweet and sour thing and very hard to eat properly. The mixed veg is poured into the puree (a fried bread) and it makes it soggy and messy to eat. Yes it was tasty but nothing special - it's not something I'd order again but it was new for us, so we wanted to give it a shot. We ordered a paneer dish, tadka daal (totally bland!), lemon rice (poor choice on our part, it fought too much with the daal to taste lovely. Both are better on their own) and thick, fluffy garlic naan. The portions were plentiful - more than enough for two people. I do wish the tadka daal was more flavorful, it's always one of my favorite things to order, even if it's shamelessly easy to make at home. The service was great but we skipped dessert. Tons of vegetarian options, so we'd go back...perhaps with a bit more thought (on our part) when ordering next time.

Kathmandu, opposite Colston Hall, offers diners an authentic Nepali/Indian experience. On entering the venue, your senses are immediately indulged: subtle aromas of burning incense, infused with rich spices, create a mystical vibe, in addition to the warm candle light and captivating Indian art, making you feel as if you are actually in India. Run by a Nepalese family who import indigenous spices from a village in their home country, the restaurant produces a diverse range of curries. My favourite is the chicken Pasanda, a dish simply oozing with creamy, yogurty goodness and unique blends of spices. You can expect to pay more than is usual for Indian cuisine, but your experience is guaranteed to make those extra pennies seem worthwhile.

They must polish these things day and night, because I was totally convinced, until I noticed one of the join lines a good few minutes later (and it wasn't just me, to note, I heard another couple say exactly the same thing as we were leaving). I must recommend the vegetable tikka massala - I know, I'm not very adventurous - but I have a policy of always judging a place by its massala. Once that test's been passed, I'm willing to come back and try something a little more exciting. I expect the staff at Kathmandu will be seeing a fair bit more of me in the coming months, then.

As you enter down the stairs to the entrance, pause and take a deep breath. As you enter in, you are greeted warmly, enveloped in warm decor, gentle Nepalese music, and a sense of someplace exotic and relaxing. There are a few rooms for dining inside and a garden patio area for enjoying the outdoors. My husband and I have never had Nepalese food before. We thought this would be an interesting taste amid our British journey. And indeed it was! The flavors were so tasty, ranging from subtle to vibrant. There were flavors I could not identify and yet wanted to continue eating because they were so unique and flavorful. I don't believe we left a crumb on our plates! And then there was the dessert. I have truly fallen in love with the flavor of the marinated oranges and yogurt that I had for dessert. I've never tasted anything like it before. I literally closed my eyes to block out all else so I could simply savor the delicate flavors. What a treat! When back home, I am definitely going to see if I can find a Nepalese restaurant to enjoy, but doubt it can replicate the deliciousness of this dining experience.

They played Nepalese music softly in the background. We each ordered the house dish: I got chicken and my husband got beef. You can choose mild, medium, hot, or very hot spices. We got medium and it was perfect. My husband had ale, and I had a limeade that is offered to thirsty pilgrims. Delicious! We would definitely recommend it!
