Such a hidden gem close to Louisville! Visiting the gardens has been on my list for a bit and I finally took the trip out there for the night farmers market. I loved everything about this place! There were beautiful trees, flowers wildlife (birds and butterflies). There is an adorable fairy village that's perfect for all ages to see. I loved the bright flowers and lush green plants. There was a small cafe and covered eating area along with a gift shop in the front. There is also a decent size parking lot that's easy to navigate. Worth the visit and I'll be back again! read more

Horticulture is important. This little piece of recently added to the national conservation historic site. It is a nonprofit dedicated to saving Americas most unique garden spaces . Originally a self sufficient farm space owned by Theodore Klein and his wife. It was a farm stead, now a whimsical garden with designated spaces for all sorts of horticultural plants and flowers. Many original flowers and plants that are native to Kentucky grow wild here. As a visitor to the park the flowers gardens and trees are labeled. Admission was free, though I'd absolutely pay the $12 to visit again and spend more time wandering. Everything is really well maintained and labeled. This is a beautiful place! There's a fairy garden, perfect for kids and anyone else to walk through. There's a cafe with a great balcony overlooking lots of greenery. There's such a lovely variety of trees and flowers. I feel so lucky that I visited Yew Dell Botanical Gardens on the last Friday of September. I arrived around 4 p.m. without knowing that every last Friday of the month from 4-7 p.m. is their Happy Hour with free admission. It usually is $12 per adult. My wife and I could walk the trails and enjoy the beautifully landscaped flowers and trees at no cost. The atmosphere was fantastic, peaceful, refreshing, and uplifting. There was also live music outdoors, where people could enjoy food, wine, and beer in a lovely setting. This place is truly charming and relaxing. Now I know I've found a hidden jam. I'll look forward to visiting here on the Last friday of each month (April through October). read more

This botanical garden was absolutely beautiful. I took my mother and a mother daughter day. They seem to offer a lot of different events. And I plan to attend some in the future. Lots of plants for sale. I loved being able to go all over. Even into their greenhouses to see how they operate. The variety of plants is amazing. And they even have things to do for children. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This a lovely place tucked in the sleepy city of Crestwood. It is worth the drive to Oldham County, especially in the springtime. This botanical garden boasts a large variety of plants, trees, and flowers. There is a quaint fairy garden to explore and a scavenger hunt to occupy the young ones. They have a covered patio for group events along with a pavilion. It is always clean and very well maintained. Don't forget to visit the gift shop and plant sale! My husband surprised me for my very first Mother's Day, with tickets to the Mother's Day event at the botanical gardens! Upon arrival we were told we cannot bring my very small, ESA dog into the event despite it being an animal friendly establishment. We were also told we are not allowed to leave him in the car, that we essentially needed to leave. Again, my first Mother's Day, refused because I require a service dog. This is a prime example, of a human being, failing to have human kindness or understanding. read more

Have you ever wondered why you waited so long to visit a place that ends up giving you great joy? That's how I felt during my visit to Yew Dell. It is a peaceful and serene spot that makes you forget suburbia and daily stressors. The entrance to the gardens is through an old tobacco barn, which also includes a small, but very nice gift area. When we visited, many potted plants that were grown on site in the nurseries were also for sale immediately outside the barn where you entered the gardens. There were also plant pots, garden decor, wind chimes, birdhouse and much more. In addition to the flowers, shrubs and trees, Yew Dell has a beautiful stone castle, a log cabin, a more modern barn that is used as a small eatery (Martha Lee's Kitchen) with an attached covered patio for sitting and viewing the grounds), sculptures, and so much more. There is a large pavilion for weddings, private events and ceremonies. There are many areas within the gardens that are perfect for engagement or family photos. The venue holds many children's events as well as adult classes and events. I never dreamed that I would enjoy the Fairy Garden as much as I did. Perhaps I'm still a child at heart? Hounds of the Ground is the name given to Sundays when leashed dogs are allowed (see website for blackout dates when dogs are not allowed). A large part of the grounds is wheelchair accessible as well as the large and very clean and modern restrooms. Parking is plentiful in a designated lot. I know that my husband and I will be frequent flyers as the entry fee is so reasonable and each season would have different blooms and features. read more

We recently paid our first visit to Yew Del Botanical Gardens. It was Father's day and my did some research to find on outdoor place not far from home and ended up here. I had no idea it existed, but I don't get out this way very often. The entry way is through the Tobacco barn, and it's a nifty way to enter such a unique place. The admission price is very reasonable ($9 for adults, and veterans (like myself) are free). Walk through the Tobacco Barn / Gift Shop and there you are, surrounded by all kinds of colourful, natural beauty. We meandered through a large part of the Botanical Gardens in roughly and hour-and-a-half at a very relaxed pace. I particularly liked the Castle Terrace, looking very medieval and stately shortly after you enter the Gardens. The Fairy Forest is a quaint little area with miniature fairy houses and a well-shaded area and plenty of places to sit. The Pollinator Meadow has a nice, very visible, flat walking path that's a nice stroll on a Sunday afternoon. Yew Dell is a nicely sized Botanical Garden. It's not so large that you feel like you're missing something, but comfortable enough to feel like you got to see it in all its natural splendor. If you haven't been, I recommend it. It's a very pleasant visit to a quiet, relaxing outdoor experience...and who couldn't use more of that? read more

We enjoyed a wonderful visit this year during Boo Dell at Yew Dell in October, entrance fee $9, which is a great annual event, especially for families. It's less than a half-hour drive from the city and we could easily spend several hours here exploring. There are many activities for kids of all ages, crafts, music, candy stations, costumes, decorations, fairy gardens, and a fire truck to explore. This is all in addition to the every day offerings at Yew Dell with an astronomical amount of plant varieties, outdoor art installations, and beautiful buildings. I hope to return soon for one of the weekends prior to the winter holidays to see the lights and then again in the spring, the summer, and so forth. Lots to see here and of course it is ever changing since it's primarily focused on nature and plants. (I also plan to return to have lunch at Martha's Kitchen as it was already closed when I visited.) read more

Yew Dell Gardens is such a magical place -- so much so that my family and I visited last weekend to see fairy houses. Well not REAL fairy houses. Everyone knows they really live deeper in forests. ;-) Yew Dell has a special exhibit of fairy houses and doors, and it gave us a great excuse to see its beautiful grounds. It includes a small castle, ponds, a secret garden, log cabin, vistas, arboretum, sculptures and more. And this is all in a relatively small area. Not to say Yew Dell is small -- it just packs a lot in. The size was perfect for my mother in law, who recently had surgery, and my toddler son to explore. Be sure to take your camera because there is so much to take photos of. I also feel like we missed some neat things. I wish there had been a bit more signage, and the map was hard to follow. Just another reason I suppose to go back. Yew Dell also hosts some great events, especially in its barn. I went to one several years ago with my best friend. The music plus beautiful scenery made the experience even more special. There is also a nice gift shop in the barn you walk through to get in. The clerk was so nice to my son to, which I appreciated. This property spans a variety of environments, with small castle and a variety of event spaces, an arboretum, and a trail down to a more rustic environment ending in a pond. Not much was happening in the event spaces on the day I visited, though there were plants on sale by the greenhouse. I encountered a variety of wildlife, and there was plenty of charming and idyllic scenery. I didn't actually see that much in terms of educational material on plants, it was more about the aesthetics of the fairy woods and the Kentuckian limestone-crusted streams. Of note, they don't charge admission during the winter. You could walk the grounds in an hour or so, but it's certainly nice enough to stay longer. read more

This is a quaint place. The buildings are more impressive than the gardens. I give the shade gardens five stars. However many of the plants are mislabeled. The castle building looks ready to lease for parties of about 20-30. Cute gardens but it is not laid out well for an experience. No easy bathrooms or food and drink Available. One hour and you can see everything. Cool items in the gift shop. But why they do not sell basic water is a mystery.... Wedding or engagement photos would be lovely here and free electric car charging in the parking lot. read more

Wanting to get together with family but still be outside, I mentioned heading to Yew Dell. My mom looked over the website and agreed. We got here a bit early since it was Easter and we didn't know how busy they would be. Mother website mentioned picnics were allowed but didn't really specify if there were tables or benches. So we picnicked in the parking lot. Come to find out, there are tons of place to enjoy a packed lunch. Plenty of seating and benches throughout the gardens. I enjoyed the history behind the property. The castle that was once a pool house fascinated me the most. And I loved the hyacinths surrounding it. There was a pathway to follow and plenty to see. We did stop in the gift shop but didn't make any purchases. The only negative was that dogs are allowed on Sunday. There were A LOT of dogs. And unfortunately, most people weren't cleaning up after their dogs. I enjoyed the day and being able to safely be with family. In the future, I wouldn't visit on a Sunday. read more

This botanical garden has a little bit for everyone, but not too much for anyone. One really cool thing about the place. Is they have free electric vehicle charging. At least that's what it looked like to me. They also have really well developed shade gardens. The buildings scattered around the property seemed underutilized and understaffed. And the gardens are a little bit more naturalized and less groomed than a typical botanical garden. Check out the fairy village at the far corner of the property. While I was there, there were many engaged couples getting their wedding photos taken. I have a lot of fond memories of the place. And, the annual plant combinations and colors gave me a lot of great ideas for my own garden at home. read more

The culture pass is something that allows you to go to a local establishments and experience different cultures. Awesome addition for kids. I've wanted to visit Yew Dell for years but since it's out of the way, I always forget about the place. Over the weekend, I woke up... it was sunny and I said, "Let's go to Yew Dell!" So off we went. I figured peak Spring would be a perfect time to visit but I can see myself visiting again as the seasons change. A guy created this garden a while ago. When he died, commercial development threatened the place. Luckily a group of people saved Yew Dell and the rest is history. I've wanted Louisville to get a move on with their Botanical Gardens but that project has seen numerous delays. It's coming soon and Yew Dell gave me hope that our Botanical Gardens will be wonderful once they arrive. The place is just past Kentucky Artisan Distillery so you'll likely smell lovely whiffs of corn while you're at Yew Dell. Parking isn't an issue. Yew Dell has a huge parking lot so take your pick. They advertise plenty of events so I think that keeps it interesting. As far as Yew Dell goes, there's not much to do except walk around. The 1.5ish mile hiking trail helps the experience. If you're into general exercise and being outside, it's a great place to go. With that being said... I LOVED IT! While the place had plenty of flowers to look at, I think I expected more flowers... maybe even fields of flowers. Unfortunately, it's not that. There are more plants, trees, and the like. The hiking trail is nice because it allows you to spend more time there for the 9 dollar price of admission. There is a pond on one side of the trail and you'll see the occasional frog around the creeks but other than that, it's basic. There are numerous event spaces that you can walk in around the grounds. One thing that I thought was weird is that they have buildings that you can go in but when going inside them, it seems that you're not supposed to be in them. There aren't any signs telling you not to, but some of the buildings just have storage in them. There's one building that is greenhouse-like where they keep growing plants, cacti, and other plants. I like that building. There were quite a few things there that I had never seen. Most of the grounds had tulips scattered. They were beautiful, but again... the plants, trees, and occasional statues rule this place. I need just a little more color for this place to call itself a garden. My experience was enhanced by my mate. She knows all of the plants that you can eat! We don't even have to take snacks on the trail anymore because we can just eat the plants! Overall, I think you should visit. The 9 dollar admission price is cheap enough but it does seem expensive for what's there... especially if they have some type of event going on that blocks you from viewing certain areas. It's my understanding that they have birthdays/weddings happening there. I'd look into it before you go. There are numerous places to sit down and relax too. The place is definitely romantic and relaxing enough to spend some time at. In the end... you can spend around 1.5-2 hours there and see everything. read more

Truly breathtaking! We came out for opening day. It was a ticketed event. They sold out quick on Facebook. Check to see if they have restrictions or tickets needed. We were able to walk the grounds in about an hour. They also have plants for sell too. I wish I could have come a few weeks later to see the full bloom of everything. Many things had still not bloomed. Really nice outdoor activity for anyone. They have special events here and can also serve as a venue. This was our first visit here after seeing the sigh on the interstate for many years. So glad we came to visit. read more

Yew Dell is a really beautiful place that is just a short drive from Louisville. I took my wife there on a date a few weeks ago, when it was still warm. On a sunny day, there probably aren't many prettier places around here. The buildings were closed except for restrooms, and you were required to wear a mask in any enclosed area. That makes sense and is consistent with most businesses. This really did not bother us at all, but I think we'll be back for the buildings when they reopen. You can lose track of time if you are the type to take pictures. Small signs educate visitors about genus and species of plants and some interesting facts. The place is separated into different areas or zones, and you will see different plants and trees blooming depending on when you visit. This makes going in different seasons quite appealing. Make sure to check the website if there's something specific you want to see. On our visit, the crepe myrtles were in full bloom and they have lots of bees and butterflies on them. We visited at the very end of summer, so our next go visit will probably be in the Spring. Lastly, they do sell plants and trees, which is nice for people who see something they like. I'm not sure how competitive the prices are, but all of the plants appeared to be in excellent condition. I definitely recommend this as a date event or family outing. Small kids may not be ideal if they're on the rambunctious side, but probably 5-6 and up should be fine. read more

What a beautiful place. Daniel and I did a Tai Chi class on Saturday morning at Yew Dell gardens and it was so peaceful. For our $10 ticket- we got to hang out and explore the grounds after our class which was so nice. They have several covered pavilions for events and gorgeous garden spaces. While they are known for being a wedding venue, lots of other events are held there throughout the year. They have yoga, Tai Chi, live music and more. Yew Dell is sooo pretty! And a great wedding venue. I've seen Facebook friends get married here and I also saw one going on when I visited. I came on a Saturday morning. Early, of course, with my mom and sister. It was going to be hot that day so we had to start early. Walking around the grounds, it was pretty! There's a small little chapel and another venue that was dark inside. You can check out a greenhouse in here and some wonderful views. It's nice to sit and smell the flowers. There was also a fairy garden which I thought was really cute! Lots of small little houses someone made with leaves and wood and such. Very creative! It was busy here though! A lot of people seem to come just to walk around and such. It's pretty though, so I can't blame them. I'd love to come again! It's such a fun thing to do not so far from the city! read more

Oh, what a little slice of heaven in the middle of suburbia! I know that sounded cheesy, but you will agree with me once you set foot in Yew Dell Gardens. When I visit a botanical garden, I'm usually more drawn to the flora. But Yew Dell is different, both the flora and architecture are incredible. Yew Dell combines the undeniable "cuteness" of period architecture with modern, minimalistic buildings. At the entrance, a red barn encloses the visitor center. Once you enter the gardens, The Castle awaits your discovery. I have no words but to say: "super cute!" Again, you'll see once you see it. It is a bit shorter than you think a castle should be; hubby named it "Bilbo Baggins' Castle". Next, there is the modern barn and pavilion. Fresh, new, country, yet modern. I never thought I would say this, but this barn would be great for a wedding! And it does not have to be country themed! The secret garden and the holly archway make for a perfect setting for an outdoor wedding. And don't forget to check out the main house, log cabin, stone house..., etc. You will not want to leave this little slice of heaven. read more

A stroll the miles of colorful smiles, this was the perfect mid-day walk and getaway for me and the hubby. The Peking lot was fairly full, but we barely saw anyone once we were inside - very easy to socially distance oneself. Take your time and look at every plant and every flower - if you walk too quickly, you'll miss some great things! Even varieties of insects and bees and I had never seen. Spent several hours here with the family before Mother's Day. Staff was very friendly. Met a man named Jacob while walking around. He was very informative and friendly!! They had a wedding or reception going on - but that did not prevent you from seeing the grounds. Trails were closed due to heavy rain previously received. Just a reason to go back again. This sprawling botanical garden is wonderful. Everything is immaculately cared for and showcases many indigenous plants alongside some exotic ones. Highlights for me include the fairy garden where the imagination can run wild creating stories about the fairies who inhabit the homes, the trails on the lower part of the properties, and the memories made along the way. For the size of the property the $9 entry fee is reasonable. There's so much to see between different themed gardens and the occasional building. There are also 2 cats that are on the property which I sadly wasn't able to see. This is a great spot for a weekend date. read more
