On a cool and sleepy early spring Thursday, we ere the 1st customers for lunch, not having been here for most of a decade, since before the pandemic. That Ying Thai even exists speaks to the stability and staying power of the business. We really were wowed. The lunch specials are very cost-effective with portion sizes that represent exceeding good value. Spice can be moderated to taste (they will ask you to rate 1 to 5, how spicy) and service was rock solid by the charming waitress. One thing about spice level - order one level down from where your instinct suggests. The dozen or so lunch specials on the menu, all are priced the same, with a small variable depending on the protein you select (tofu, chicken, shrimp or beef). The physical space is small (we can easily imagine the dozen small tables being full) and parking is quite limited right nearby (tiny municipal paid parking lot) but this inconvenience is well worth it. The food is excellent!!! I've wanted to find good Pad Thai nearby forever, and Ying Thai has the best. I'm a Thai food novice, so I've been trying different dishes and they're all good. My favorite so far is Pad Se Ew. My only complaint is the parking/pickup situation. Parking is limited and you often have to double park to pick up carry out. read more

This is the definition of a "hole in the wall" restaurant. Assorted seating for less than 20 diners. Exposed kitchen. Mom and Pop running the place. Usually Mom is cooking, dad taking care of the diners. Each dish is cooked to order,no pre-prepared sauces or protein. It makes difference. Each dish is served piping hot. The pad Thai, the veggie spring rolls and the red curry, tofu and veggies my wife you got for the Tom Yum and I got the wonton soup I do like the small wontons. Everything was excellent. The service was fantastic and even though it was about 20 minutes before their lunchtime, which is between three and four, they are closed they got our food very quick so they could eat. Hits the spot when you need something different! Having lived in Asia for almost a decade and visiting Thailand many times for work, I realize that this restaurant is catering more towards the American palate, but hey! This is Westminster. I can't complain when there's a restaurant that is trying to make its customers happy and offering something different in an attempt to broaden the locals' culinary horizons. The only downside is that since the COVID scare is over, it would be good to clear up the dining room and dismantle the COVID takeout setup... it brings back bad memories. read more

I am absolutely in love with their fried rice. They always give the perfect level of spicyness that I ask for. Their appetizers are yummy as well. My husband loves their pineapple fried rice while I'm fond of their regular spicy fried rice with pork. Their iced Thai tea and iced Thai coffee were both amazing. It's a pleasure to support this small business and its owners- they are kind and devoted to their restaurant. The servers are all sweet and funny. The restaurant itself is a bit of a hole-in-the-wall with limited seating, but it's authentic and cozy, no complaints at all! I only wish it was closer to where I live! read more

Gyoza (Pot Stickers) - ordered steamed Garlicky, meat filled pillows of deliciousness. I foresee me getting these often. Served with a soy and vinegar sauce that didn't pair well with it. First, it was too thin to stick to it. So I tasted it separately and pretty much a vinegar taste with a faint taste of soy.  Maybe a little dark soy sauce alone or added to the vinegar sauce I think would elevate these delicious pillows further, but this sauce didn't do anything for it.    Gyoza (Pot Stickers) - ordered fried Good but steamed were much better. Frying takes the lightness out of the noodle which takes away from letting the filing shine through. Also served with same sauce with same issues as steamed. Chicken Sate Not impressed. Slight chicken taste but other than that, no flavor to speak of.  Peanut sauce tasted like watered down peanut butter and didn't help the chicken. The vinegar sauce with onions, was too thin to stick to it. Maybe if I soaked the chicken in it, it might flavor it.... but I doubt it. Tasting it separately, only got vinegar taste with nothing else. Pad See Ew - w chicken - ordered Spicy Garlicky and Spicy goodness that didn't over power the broccoli, chicken or noodles. Didn't have a lot of cabbage in it but that's OK,  even though I like cabbage. Just enough heat to hit, not over power and then give a lingering slow fade away that left you ready to do it again. Lo Mein - w Chicken - ordered Spicy Wish it didn't have red bell peppers in it. Other than that, garlicky and Spicy goodness as well. Also just enough heat to hit, not over power and then give a lingering slow fade away that left you ready to do it again. Both the Pad See Ew and Lo Mein were a lunch special that each came with a side.  I chose egg rolls for both. You got two per order and were small compared to most other egg rolls I've gotten. More the size I get most spring rolls in. They were decent but underwhelming since there small size didn't allow them to pack much flavor in them. They came with what appears to be duck sauce but I'm not a fan of duck sauce in general, so didn't try. Overall I will definitely go back many times for the Steamed Gyoza, the Spicy Pad See Ew and Spicy Lo Mein. Their lunch special portions for Pad See Ew and Lo Mein were each enough for two mealon and a great value given you get all that and a side. This place was a hole in the wall, and I do not regret going here. When we walked in we were greeted and told to sit wherever so we took a corner booth seat. Our server was so nice and sweet just made the experience that much better. For starters I ordered papaya salad spicy. For main I got crab fried rice and my boyfriend got two chicken and two sides, fries and dinner roll. For drinks we got mango smoothie and cola. They do not play on spicy, I love things hot but those two dishes took it to another level. My mouth was on fire and my ears were ringing. The waitress was sweet since my smoothie was late she gave me a free drink, thai tea, which helped with the heat of the food. For dessert we got thai coconut ice cream, came in a real hallow out coconut. I would recommend this place. read more

I came to hang out with a buddy who lives in Westminster. We came here to pick up carryout for lunch. We ordered pad thai, 2 orders of pad see ew, crab fried rice, and chicken curry. My friend frequents here and has established a relationship with the owner. The owner knows my friend's name which I thought was cool. He was very friendly and personable. The restaurant is fairly small, but cozy. They have a stamp card and for each entree you order you get a stamp. Once you have 10 stamps, you get 10% off your order. I noticed on the counter that the restaurant received a certificate on Yelp that read, "People love us on Yelp" for 2018. I thought that was a good indicator that I was going to enjoy my food. When we got to my friend's house, my first impression when we dug into the food was that the portions in the container appear to be generous in size. I started off with the pad see ew and thought it was flavorful and fortunately that the noodles weren't undercooked. In other restaurants where I've had it, the noodles were a bit tough. I also enjoyed the crab fried rice. Unfortunately, my friend and I agreed that the pad thai was a bit dry and needed more sauce. I'm not into curry so didn't have that. Having grown up in the diverse Montgomery County, I have to say that this restaurant surpasses any Thai restaurant I've had in the DMV area. I ordered via Yelp/Grubhub - and was given an estimated wait time of 55-75 minutes. 55 minutes after placing my order, I received a notification that my order was complete and ready for pickup - so I ventured into the restaurant to pick up my food. It wasn't ready. I waited another 55 minutes to get my food - during which only a handful of orders came out of the kitchen, and several Uber Eats and Door Dash drivers got disgusted and left. When asked about wait time the answer was either "I don't know" or "20 minutes" (which didn't actually mean 20 minutes). And to add insult to the ridiculous wait time, they left out an item that I ordered. Be prepared to wait 90 min - 2 hrs for your food. And if your delivery is delayed, it's not your driver's fault. My first bite of the pad Thai reminded me of a breakfast meal. I liked that it was moist and not dry like most pad Thais but the flavor wasn't there. My husband swung by to grab dinner on his way home one day and we decided to try this place out. We are newer to the area so still trying to explore and find our local go-to's in the area. We already tried the other popular Thai choice in town and it really didn't do it for either of us. I was a little worried about here as well since it also serves pho, which leads me to believe that they are confused and probably not that great. I ended up getting pad Thai so I could share it with my son, my husband got the larb gai and also the pho just because he heard it was good. Okay, so the pho really isn't your traditional pho. It's definitely got its Thai flare to it, almost tom yum-ish but not. I totally dig it!!! The rest of the food was also pretty good--I wouldn't say spectacular but much better than the other popular Thai choice in town. They forgot our chicken satay and was really apologetic about it over the phone and refunded our money. Definitely my favorite Thai restaurant in Westminster! Today I only wanted dessert and tried their mango sticky rice. Perfect! I taught English in Thailand for a short time and I can tell you the food at Ying Thai Cuisine is just as good. The owner is also a delight who can chat with you about nearly anything. Whether that's about life in Thailand or Baltimore crabs. I came during quarantine and they were extremely organized and brought the food straight outside for us.
