After the new ownership took over in early 2026 or so, the quality of the food has taken a dive. Although the recipes are the same, the preparation is horrible. The steamed dumplings are now gummy and gluey inside, and the shrimp balls are balls of mashed fried shrimp without that wonderful snap and juiciness. It's such a shame to have move my 5 stars down to one star. It only helps my waistline as I no longer have any desire to go here. read more

My 4 star rating doesn't mean that everything wasn't quite good; it's just that a dining experience must be genuinely exceptional for me to rate 5. My wife and I had initially intended to dine at a Mexican restaurant which we'd enjoyed in the past several doors down, however learned that they are closed on Sundays. We visited at approximately 3:30pm on an early December Sunday. There were about a half dozen tables occupied and we were seated at the booth of our choice within a minute. The servers were promptly and attentive. We were provided beverages and a bowl of tasty Wonton Crispies which were addictive! For my meal I selected the Szechuan Tofu with steamed rice and a bowl of Wonton Soup which were delicious but could only eat about half of my plated (thus shall enjoy it tomorrow whilst at work for lunch.) A person who was either the manager or owner came by to check on us and provided boxes (including for what remained of our second-floor serving of Wonton Crispies). We were given the check. Prices are reasonable and I'll gladly pay for quality, particularly for something which will traverse my innards. I recommend this highly if you are in the environs of Westminster, MD and fancy Chinese cuisine. Oh, they have what seems to be a full bar, however I didn't notice a buffet setup. read more

Idk why I didn't take the negative reviews seriously. I typically avoid places with less than a 4 star review. But I was craving shrimp egg foo young and my sister really wanted beef with broccoli. THIS is what they gave me for $16. The pork fried rice was greasy and had zero flavor. This egg foo young is the size of a mini pancake. They gave me a clear slimy vegetable type sauce for topping when it is supposed to be a thick gravy sauce. I am so upset. $16 and they gave me the worst meal I've ever had. I could've spent this money at chicfila. Never will I ever recommend this place. Overall the flavor was too salty and just not good. All in all I do not recommend this establishment and would wholeheartedly avoid it all together. Not only was it $16 for this small amount but everything tasted terribly. read more

I was told Forbidden City was the best Chinese food in Carroll County. Oh, boy. I hope that is not the case. I ordered takeout. The egg rolls were greasy. The seafood in the Happy Family was chewy and tough. The vegetables were soggy and overcooked. I suspect they were straight from a can. Very disappointing. My order was ready quickly. I guess that's a plus. And while I didn't eat in, I did pick up my order so I saw the dining room, and it looked nice. Maybe the food is better when you dine in. read more

Trying out a new place after the abrupt closing of our regular eatery. Egg rolls were very greasy, not sure if oil not hot enough, then the sweet and sour pork was way to crispy/crunchy, cook all of the moisture out of it. We were local in the Westminster area and as always we use YELP ! Chinese was our lunch choice ! Easy to locate this restaurant with plenty of parking in a private lot. The decor was very welcoming and very tasteful for the heritage . Extremely Clean ! We walked in and were cheerfully greeted and seated and our server was a young gentleman, very friendly and attentive! They brought us waters and a pot of hot tea and some crunchy noodles and kimchi, we think that what is what it was ... We placed our orders and why we gave them a 4-Star rating is the extended time for our food to be served, about 30 minutes and they had about 3-4 other tables. My wife enjoyed the General Tso Chicken with Fried Rice, I also ordered the same and sent it back, the sauce is different and was not impressed with the chicken, strange taste. We stopped for a late lunch 2:30 Thursday 2/11. The waiter was prompt to bring pickled cabbage, fried wontons, water and tea and sauces. We ordered off the lunch menu, Happy Family and Szechuan Beef and we started to eat it but it was not hardly warm and the fried rice was cold! The food itself was very tasty but not hot at all. We only ate half of our meal. The waiter never came back to check to see if everything was OK until he brought the bill. We would go back but we will make sure we ask for our food hot. read more

Dropped in for a quick bite before a movie. Our favorite waiter, Ridwan, accommodated us perfectly. The wonton soup was excellent and had more wontons than any id ever had. The Spring Rolls are consistently delicious. The Mu Shu Pork was delightful and plentiful. If you want traditional Chinese food, this should be at or near the top of the list. Oh... My experience with Forbidden City was horrendous tonight. I tried to place my order online but their site would not accept my bank card as payment method so I had to call my order in. When I went to pick up my order, they could not find it because the person that took my order did not put it under my name. She put it under my phone number. When I arrived home, my daughter went to eat her food & they gave her the wrong food. I ordered sweet & sour chicken for her & they gave her kung pao chicken instead. When I called about it, they told me they had it right since it was on the paper. I told them that they did not because my daughter does not like kung pao chicken. They offered to remake it but I would have to drive a half hour to pick it up. I am very disappointed in their service & attitudes tonight. I lived in this area for over 20 years and while it seems like soon good take out places have recently open it still feels kinda like a desert here. This place used to be it! Made from scratch/love and absolutely delicious egg rolls. The food was cooked and assembled with care. It was worth paying that little bit extra versus other similar style food joints. But i havent been in a while and to my dismay they are now gouging their customer with those prices it feels like. From recent reviews, the quality seems to have tanked as well. Seriously, some of the best Chinese I've had in a long time. The General Tzo Chicken was perfectly prepared, just the right amount of heat and sweetness. They make it with green pepper instead of broccoli which is a nice combination. The egg roll is huge... it's seriously like so big you can only eat one. Never seen that before. Picked up some expensive carryout-- garlic chicken, shrimp lomein. Both of which had wayy to much garlic. I know the dish is garlic chicken but this was rediculous! Almost inedible. The lomein had way to mich garlic... both almost like they spilled the entire jar into it. I have eaten here before and it was good but unfortunately I will not go back. When I move from MD and come back to visit, this will be on the top list of restaurants to visit when I come back. Incredible food unlike any other chinese left in MD that I know of. They seem to take that extra mile with their dishes. Such as adding veggies to the soup. The wonton soup and chicken rice both had additions of veggies. The wonton had baby shrimp. Both were very good. The general TSO had huge crispy chunks of chicken in a perfectly flavored sauce with peppers and onions. The egg rolls were so big we could only eat half. They were stuffed with chicken and shrimp and not greasy at all. The fried rice was old school style with a soy sauce color and all the right veggies. The dumplings....omg the dumplings..delicious and huge. Lastly, the szechuan beef very good, but a bit salty. The restaurant is in a strip mall. The inside is cute with some traditional chinese decorations and plants. They have plenty of booths and tables available for seating. This is advertised as the best Chinese restaurant in Carroll County. If that's the case, then I feel bad for the people who live here, because this is the worst carry-out Chinese food I've eaten. I have tried three different dishes, and they were all subpar. The steamed dumplings were too doughy and had no flavor. The crab wontons were hard as a rock and had very little crab, or for that matter, any filling at all. The General Tso's chicken was bland, almost tasteless. I honestly do not get the appeal of this place. People in Carroll County need to come to Baltimore County and get some REALLY good Chinese takeout. We ordered Chinese from this establishment through door dash. We ordered a pint of Mongolian beef, hot and sour soup,and lo mein which came with one pint of rice with delivery and tip everything was $50. So we called and asked why such small portions and they said that is the door dash size. They said the normal price is $13.50 and the dinner entree is $17. So even without the door dash factor this place is expensive. However, all the food was really good except the hot and sour soup. read more

My family, three generations, have been going to Forbidden City for 30+ yrs.They must have changed ownership recently. First their prices shot up, way over other Chinese restaurants in town, and their quality went down. Dishes have changed, from what had been served for 30+ years. Last night I ordered Hot & Sour soup. What was a brown based soup is now red broth. Red from peppers. It was so hot I threw it away. Everything I've ordered this past year is just meh and overpriced.
