I will start by saying I loved YMCA in Elkton and enjoyed my membership greatly. That is until the pool regulations changed to include a ridiculous enforcement of foam rubber life jackets for children that were not able to pass the swim test. I had been taking my grand daughter there for years and she learned to swim under water and on her back quite well but this past summer someone decided to enforce strict rules that all children without the swim bands had to wear a marshmallow life jacket which restricts every free water movement and prohibits the kids from enjoying the pool. (I totally understand safety and agree 100% that babies need floatation devices around water; however, my grand daughter is 7 and loved going to the Y to swim FREE!!! She increased her swim technique with every visit until that ridiculous restriction was enforced. I tried explaining to the Manager at Elkton, a young man out to make a name for himself as a stoic leader, but he refused to even have a discussion in common sense! The Y has always had strict rules that requires an adult to be IN THE WATER with a non-swimmer and all non-swimmers must stay on the shallow end of the pool which is roped off. Very good and sensible rules indeed! And that along with a waiver is all that should be needed to have a good time at ANY pool! Sadly, I stopped my memberships and until common sense prevails....I will not be back! There are other pools that do not have ridiculous rules and we were able to enjoy many beautiful days over the past summer! I hope this message is read and taken into consideration because I really loved my local Y and the staff are awesome folks!!! read more

Price is ridiculous and hours are extremely limited. If they have an event there they will flat out turn you away at the door. Worst experience I've had for any kind of gym membership. Even planet fitness is better then this. read more

My family of three has been a part of this YMCA for almost a year now, and we've loved it. The pool area in the summer is great for small kids, tons of lifeguard supervision, and smart rules to keep everyone safe. The swim classes have great instructors that work really well with hesitant toddler swimmers and their parents. The gym and cardio room are well stocked and orderly no matter the time of day we go. Finally, the stay and play area for kids is staffed with patient and loving teachers that are so kind and understanding of shy toddlers. I have nothing but positive experiences in this Y and am happy to bring my family here 5 days a week. Highly recommend. read more

It takes a truly horrible company to tell you that they are going to offer less services and charge you more money for their own profit. We signed our son up for summer camp that they offered at a price of $155 a week before covid. Now they are saying they will offer a limited version of the camp for $200 a week and will not honor the price we registered at. Their reason...because they only going to have a limited number of campers. This is price gouging and kicking people when they are down. I will never recommend them or ever consider rejoining their club. read more

My wife just went to the Y in Elkton with our two daughters (2 years old and 7 months old), putting them in the day care while she worked out. These two ladies who were supposed to watch the kids just sat on their butts the whole time. My baby was stuck in the bouncer for the entire hour, they didn't pick her up once. When my wife picked them up, my baby's pacifier (which was hooked to her) had food all over it, which means another kid either ate food and then sucked on her pacifier or they actually fed her food. In either case, my baby ended up consuming food (looks like some sort of grain-based snack bar) when she's way too young for that. She was in the bouncer right in front of the two lazy ladies, which means they just let it happen and did nothing. I understand that this is the YMCA, not a professional day care, but you still need to keep the kids safe. Needless to say, I'm pissed off. Update: My wife called the Y multiple times asking to speak with the manager, George, about the issues with their day care. Not just my wife but a number of her friends have also had issues there. Every time, it goes to George's voicemail, he never picks up the phone. Weeks later, George still hadn't called back. My wife called again and told the lady at the front desk that he hasn't called back, and instead of taking blame the lady said "they have a lot going on there", as if that excuses the manager from addressing complaints from 2+ weeks ago. We went ahead and cancelled my wife's membership there, due to the bad employees and even worse management. read more

I would not recommend using the child care center that they offer! It's high school teenagers who are on their phone not watching children and they do not report incidents that occur. A child was choked and the caregivers did not tell the parent. The child told the parent what happened when the parent confronted the caregiver they said "oh yea, your kid got choked by another kid" the parent had to REQUEST an incident report to be written up. I gave them one star but it should have been zero but that's the only way I could post my comment read more

Great spot, good swimming pools (inside and out). Gym is up to date and fitness advisers are on site. Bounce center is not bad for the kids either. Staff is usually friendly and helpful. Wifi SUCKS. Don't expect to use it, would be faster with a 56k modem. read more

I updated my credit card with their billing company but they still were trying to bill my old card which was no longer active. I went in to straighten things out. Not my fault the wrong card was being used but they still charged me late fees. So now i have to talk to someone else to try to get the late fees removed. If fees are not returned i will be cancelling my membership. I paid the whole time they were closed and this is my thanks. read more

Great place to swim and to work out. Staff is always friendly and give great advise on my old tennis injury and how to work certain machines. George P in admin was very friendly and helpful. He was willing to hear my concerns and respond to each issue with his professional staff. Since I am getting older near 50, I am not as much concerned about muscle mass and weight loss and staff very helpful, plus the Free fitness workout sessions are a great way to burn extra calories. I love the Racket Ball court and the ping pong area with fools ball to keep my kids humble and remind them that their "old man" still has game. Love the Basketball and Volleyball area, too.... I've only experienced the pool part of this YMCA, but there's also a gym here. So, first off, it was $10 to get in which for the quality of this place it's WAY too expensive. Usually it's $6 for adults or free at other pools. The pool water was a little warmer than bath water (not too good for lap swimmers) and has been over my 3 or 4 visits to the pool over the past 4 years. The lifeguards don't sit in the chair or even pay attention to the water either, so be careful if you plan on bringing kids here. I've been working at pools for the past 7 years and have never seen a pool this poorly managed. My suggestion, if you're going for the pool, is to find someplace else. The gym didn't look too great either, but I know there's a few gyms around the area so I'd suggest any of those before going to this YMCA (planet fitness, etc.). read more

Love this place, love the pool, sauna,gym, basketball courts. I get my money's worth.

The YMCA of Cecil county is the best place for preschool in the tri-state area. Not only were all the teachers and staff superb, the atmosphere was incredible. My son had swimming lessons while at school, experienced the 'bouncy room', a great playground, and a curriculum which got him ready for kindergarten. The facility is clean, and the gym equipment is top notch. My only complaint is: the pool water is too cold and the aerobic classes are NOT free. Every other YMCA has FREE classes for members. read more

We love the Y, and have had great experiences with their aerobics programs and their child care personnel. The evenings that my wife and I participle in the same fitness classes, the staff in the "play room" have demonstrated excellent care for our kids. On nice weather days they walk the age-appropriate kids out to the playground and encourage physical activity (it's the Y!). One day we looked out and couldn't see our 5 year old and had a brief panic. I went out to look for him and was told that he had to go back inside because he wasn't playing nicely with his friends on the playground equipment. This was great because it showed that the employees are aware of the interactions between the children and are appropriately monitoring them. I only wish that, with parents consent, the child care kids could play in the Bounce Room under the supervision of the child care employees. My kids LOVE the bounce room and it's great exercise in the colder months! Overall we love the Elkton Y! read more

We drive over from our usual bear Glasgow Ymca for a new pool experience. We walk in to check in and the woman working the front desk was rude and also yelling at her young son. Finally we make it out to the pool and they said he needed a swim test to go on the slide. I didn't think twice about if he would pass or not. He's been a green band for the past 4 years. The lifeguard failed him because he didn't use the correct stroke the whole time and you can only take one test a day. We were the only ones there basically. This meant he couldn't use the slide which was the whole reason we went. He was embarrassed as she put the red band on him without even telling him anything. To make it worse she said you can go in the deep end with floaties. He is almost 11 years old. I asked her why and she acted annoyed. I told her I wanted to speak with her manager and she said she was at lunch. Then I went back to the front desk for a general manager and they didn't have one. No wonder the employees were so lazy and rude. No one was managing them. We left very upset and went back to our wonderful y. Will never return. read more
