The studio was cute and welcoming and Nikisha was a very good and attentive instructor. She was motivational but also very aware of who needed what and who could potentially do more. Where I really think they shine is with their prenatal classes. Very few studios have dedicated prenatal yoga classes. Yoga district has two per week (at different locations) and they are wonderful. UPDATE: First the owner (Jasmine Chehrazi) wrote that it was impossible to fix this situation (consistently charging the wrong person's credit card for classes). When I complained that this should have been resolved after it had been brought to her attention 2 months ago, the owner wrote that it was "not our fault," and that it wasn't fair that I kept saying it was her responsibility to ensure that her business charged the correct clients. When I asked what she had done to fix this in the last 2 months, the owner just wrote that Mindbody "said they would look into it and call me back. They never did." The owner (Jasmine) never even apologized for this situation, or for her handling of it. She took offense at my saying that she had a responsibility to ensure that her company was charging the correct students. When I looked at yelp reviews for another Yoga District location, I saw a man who wrote that this also happened to him. It seems to be a repeat issue. There are many yoga studios in D.C. After this experience, I will chose to find one that treats its students (and their sensitive financial information) better. ORIGINAL REVIEW: It doesn't matter how good your teachers are if you consistently charge the wrong client's credit card for classes and don't honor 10-class-packs because you've messed up your accounts. I have been dealing with this for almost two months now, so if this is not resolved soon, I'll count my class pack as a sunk cost and find a new yoga studio. For some number of months, Yoga District has been charging a different woman's credit card every time I took a class. And my login does not lead me to the 10-class pack that I purchased with my own credit card. I emailed the owner of the studio MANY times. She has not fixed the problem, and she has not apologized. I can only tell the owner so many times that she needs to fix this. And this is something that other students should be aware of before turning over their financial information. Tonight, I complained to a new volunteer (it was literally her first day there) who understood that it was a problem, and said that she would try to get someone to listen to me. I will update this review if the owner fixes this and makes it right. However, given my past experiences with this, I don't have high hopes. read more

Yoga District has been my yoga home for the past two years. I love that a space committed to accessibility and the fundamentals of both individual and collective wellness is able to thrive amid the exclusiveness of the high-priced workout studios on the same block. This review, however, is about one Yoga District teacher in particular, Andrea D. I've been practicing for about 15 years now, and I've encountered very few teachers who bring as much to yoga instruction as Andrea. Andrea is precise and intentional in ways that increase mindfulness but never get in the way of the flow. Her knowledge of anatomy is not only obvious but also very useful. She is constantly creating and innovating, so no matter how often I take her class it never feels like the same class twice--sometimes it's a new sequence, sometimes it's a new focus, sometimes it's a new way to think about linking the practice in the studio to life off the mat. Andrea is pure yogic dopeness! She has helped me take my awareness, and thus my practice, to a new level, and for that I'm grateful. read more

I love Yoga District. As I said in my original review of the Dupont location - it is one of the only yoga studios in the area that represents the humble, peaceful, non-competitive spirit of yoga. I actually really love the studio at this location - it is in an old studio apartment-type space. It reminds me of being back home in San Francisco - it is a very San Francisco style space. Also - it's $10 for your first 3 classes which can't be beat. This is a great studio if you are trying yoga for the first time or if you can't deal with all of the drama and chaos at Flow, Tranquil Space, Studio Serenity, etc. Thanks YD for doing all you do. I went to my first Yoga District class today, and I loved it. I had Brittany for Flow Yoga 1-2, and I'm a fan. She was personable and made sure to ask the class for any injuries/concerns...Something about her is really calming, and I really appreciated how smoothly the class went. She was great at showing and teaching the sequence, and then having the class do several rounds at their own pace. I've been in classes where the instructors can't handle a packed room of students or don't give much personal attention. She is excellent. I look forward to taking more classes! *The only thing that I found slightly annoying was the lack of soundproofing (including the crash booms from the class above us)... Okay, and some chick talking loudly on her cell phone while our class was still in session... Okay, and I find the MindBody platform really annoying, too. If you have already paid for a *one off* using credit card - check your statement immediately. They have been taking a full membership fee of $97 each month from my credit card since June (from a card I hardly use except for parking) and therefore hardly check up on. I was only in the DC area for one week and was shocked to see how much had been taken without any contract, permission or authorization. My emails addressing their mistake have been viewed a number of times with NO apology, no response, no attempt to communicate whatsoever. Fraud committed by a company who (in theory) should be running in line with Yoga values, (like not stealing and doing harm) feels worse than fraud committed by some big corporate. read more

My sister got me hooked on Yoga district. All of their staff and instructors are incredibly welcoming and kind and ready to help you improve. I love their variety of classes and locations. Since the pandemic they have made the switch to virtual classes so well- I hardly feel the difference. And they are affordable! I love their mission to make Yoga accessible to everyone. read more

Rich was the best instructor. I took an 8pm class with him. I went in anxious, but he was very welcoming and by the end of the class, my mind felt totally calm and my body felt wonderfully energized. I highly recommend this class. He had a great pace, incredibly well-thought out musical playlist, and taught so many new poses that I had never tried before! The other yogis really enjoyed his teaching too and were able to work on their individual levels with him throughout class. I couldn't say enough nice things about this yoga practice. I initially came due to a back injury - I just wanted a good stretch, because my chiropractor was concerned about my lack of flexibility and how it made more intensive workouts more dangerous for me. I started with two restorative classes - one with Christine and one with Aparna - and was instantly hooked. Since then, I have taken the Yoga 1-1.5 classes, Meditative Yoga, Kundalini yoga, Yin Yoga, and finally Yoga 1-2. The classes are perfectly described on the very user-friendly website, it is so easy to schedule and manage my account, the students there are all great, the staff is awesome, and the teachers are FANTASTIC. I do have favorites, despite the fact that they are all amazing - Aparna and Christine were the perfect introductory and continued instructors. They are genuine, they love what they do, and they make all of the proper adjustments needed during class. I really find peace when I'm working with them - even if it's one of their more intensive classes. They just give off "that vibe" that keeps me coming back! I'm going to keep this at a 5-star rating because this place is so dear to me, but my one complaint is the noise level in the main room at times. We'll be winding down or performing restorative, and the pilates and rocket students are always obnoxiously loud - and I think in interest of customer service, the staff is timid about telling them to lower their voices. This normally isn't an issue for the late evening class (8:00 pm) but it's always bad on the weekends. Anyway - I'm still a loyal customer. Love this place. Check them out. For my first review with a red badge...squeee! If you want a yoga clothes boutique, tea and cookies after class, spa options, and a fancy changing room, go to Tranquil space down the street at 17th and R st nw. You'll also get a $$$$ price tag and a lot of hardcore yogis showing off their scorpion poses. Don't get me wrong, I heart Tranquil space, but I 1) can't afford it 2) I'm not in the best shape of my life and 3) get annoyed with the showoffs. For the rest of us with tummies and some flexibility issues, Yoga District is no frills, low key, all-level friendly yoga in an unintimidating environment. You don't have to be in the best shape, taken yoga for years, or be all hardcore into meditation or spirituality. Nor do you have culty chanting. There's a class for everyone here. Is it a little disorganized, yes, but they give back to the community and do their best. Since I'm sporadic about my yoga attendance, I'm glad to see they finally have a phone at this branch and are more consistent about having someone open the door. They always save a handful of spots for walkins too. When I was a newbie I tried to get in here (couldn't sign in online on a 1-week newbie pass). They will generally carry over unused classes on the bigger passes if you sign up for another one. You can't beat their prices for DC yoga! *One week pass =$10=max 3 classes. Glorious. *$10 per drop-in class *unlimited passes =$70 a month +yearly activation fee $100 *$45 for 5classes/1 month, $85 10 classes/3 months They finally take credit card here. CC minimum $15 I particularly like their Yoga for Misfits class by Bernie on Sundays. He's really focused on correct alignment and making ppl feel at ease. Probably about a Yoga 1.5 level. Free towel usage! They also have $1 mat rentals, and free mat storage if you 1)put your name on your mat and 2)bind it. My mat did get stolen here when I went on vacation, but they were super helpful about trying to get it back for me. THIS STUDIO I like this studio better than Dupont because it's easier to get to for me, and also because you don't have to hike up 4 sets of stairs through a sauna of Bikram yoga sweat. Eeeew. TRANSPORTATION I don't like lugging my heavy mat around or undoing the calm that I get after yoga, so I avoid the metro afterwards. Orange/blue line: Since it's on 14th and T, you're right on the street for the 50 buses to get south to the orange/blue line at Mcpherson Square. You're also a block away from taking the 90 series buses east, which will get you to H St NE/Cap Hill/Eastern Market in 20 minutes. Or you can hike back to U St metro and do that metro thing, but I'm just lazy. read more

In the industry where so many studios seem prohibitively expensive, these have got to be the most affordable yoga classes in DC! I did yoga on and off for many years until I had my first child two years ago. During that pregnancy, I did some regular flow classes at another DC studio and just modified the practice as needed...yet I always felt awkward being the only pregnant person. There weren't any prenatal classes close enough to me (or reasonably priced enough) for me to justify going elsewhere. This second pregnancy, however, I was so happy to find Brittany and her prenatal/postnatal yoga classes at Yoga District on 14th Street! Brittany teaches 2 prenatal/postnatal yoga classes each week. It is so helpful to be in a room of other pregnant mamas who have similar needs and limitations. Brittany is so encouraging during the entire class and gives lots of personal attention as needed and gives plenty of options for modifications. She's also a Lamaze childbirth educator and doula, so she knows a lot about how to help mamas, and gives plenty of opportunity for clients to ask questions throughout the class. Highly recommend if you are pregnant and looking for a class to suit your needs! There are 2 rooms at this location and no reception area, but that's no problem. Drop in classes are $11.35+tax (so really, $12), but they have several package options as well that are even better prices. If you're rushing from work, there's a changing station available and bathroom so that you can get into your gear. Bring your own mat or rent one for $2. Supports like bolsters, blankets, and blocks are available for use during classes, and fresh cold water (and cups) are also on hand! read more

Since my idea of exercise is walking my overweight dachshund around the block, I was skeptical of paying for a more demanding exercise routine. Based on the soreness of every muscle in my body today, however, walking Cookie may have to take a backseat to Yoga District's classes. This location is across from St. Ex on 14th in an old townhouse--seriously, there are covered fireplaces in the studio. The class I took last night (with Jessica, who's adorable!) had a candlelit, chill atmosphere, which immediately put me at ease; that is, until Jessica's directions totally kicked my ass. After an hour of downward dogs, warrior poses, planks and sun salutations, my body wanted to melt right into the yoga mat. Thankfully there was a 15 minute meditation at the end of class, during which time I nearly fell asleep. Although part of me wanted to lie in bed and never get out after such a tough routine, another part of me felt calm and revitalized. I'll definitely return to Yoga District for the remainder of my 3-class introductory special (only $10!), and I'll probably buy the $85 10-class pass (you can buy 5 or 10-class packages, or drop-in for $10 each time). Hopefully I'll be able to move my arms above my head by then! read more

Not my favorite studio space of the Yoga District locations. The location is very convenient, right next to the Trader Joe's and right off 14th street. The studio has many great classes at convenient times of day, but the studio space itself is pretty lackluster. The front studio space towards 14th especially has a lot of loud noises from the foot / street traffic outside and the space feels cramped and not very "zen". The back studio space is a big larger and less cramped. Classes I've been to have all been great - especially the candlelight class on Sundays! Highly recommend it if you're looking for a space to unwind on a Sunday and just flow! read more

I love yoga district. I have been to pretty much every yoga studio in DC, and am really particular with my yoga studios. Reasons why it rocks: 1) Hannah - she is hands down the best teacher I have had in 8 years of practicing. Her yoga is so elegant, and she has an amazing spirit. 2) There are ample class types - from newbs to advanced. The latter of which is hard to find. Although I am experienced, I still find myself challenged and learning poses I have never tried/seen before 3) Great price 4) All the teachers are pretty great and are good at adjusting you and letting you know if you're doing something wrong 5) Best yoga in the city for spiritual development (not all teachers though) Cons (though not a big enough detail to detract from the overall rating): 1) Rooms are a bit small/can get crowded 2) Classes are very teacher specific... the same class with a different teacher can be a very different experience, so you have to know To deepen and improve my practice and grow spiritually I go to yoga district, I go to down dog to get a monster workout. read more

I am very much new to Yoga. I have been to two sessions at Yoga District, both at the 14th and T location, and have enjoyed each one. I liked the experience because it was very unpretentious, and was good for people at a variety of levels and experience. The two classes I attended were very different from one another. The first one was very challenging. I was in a constant sweat, the poses were challenging (my first time at yoga and I stood on my head?!), and I got a good workout in. The second time I went was early on a weekday morning. Very different experience. My body was not pushed nearly as hard, but the instructor gave me more guidance as to how to structure my poses. If you are looking for yoga look no further: I got three classes for $10.00! (careful you must use the three classes within a week). I have decided I enjoy yoga and will continue to practice in addition to playing sports and working out and running occasionally. read more

Thanks to yelp I've, yet again, found a favorite. I've walked by it a dozen times and never noticed the tiny hanging sign and yellow door. Up the stairs there is a tiny door to the left and mat to remove your shoes. Sarah set up my account and I got the $10/3class newbie pass. Only one other student came in and she was also a first-timer. So, we basically had private lessons! Sarah asked what kind of yoga we wanted to do and took our suggestions. I really liked her pacing and sensing of what was too much for us (i'm WAY more out of shape than i thought!). I had a great time, although like Danielle W. said, the street noise is apparent, but didn't bother me. I will definitely go back and look forward to checking out one of these outdoor classes at Malcolm X. The website is really useful and you can sign up for classes/ buy passes online. I've tried many yoga studios in DC and all over the world and nothing really compares to Yoga District. The teachers are knowledgeable, friendly and attentive and always make you feel right at home. Ive grown to love the practice of yoga so much through YD. YD offers the most diverse range of class types of anywhere in the city - there's a class for anyone. For a challenging class try Mike's yoga 1-3 or 4 (if very experienced). There are also meditation classes for free/by donation. There are more spiritual classes, more fun/music-driven classes...at times throughout the day so you can go when it's convenient for you. On top of all this, it's the most affordable studio around, offers free water and a clean, nice, but no-frills environment. I can't recommend this studio enough. If you go and don't have a lovely experience, email them. They're super responsive and will make things right. They're all about community and are wonderful at nurturing that. read more

As a frequent traveler and yoga practitioner, I came across Yoga District in DuPont Circle. I purchased a new student package (2 classes for $11.35, can't go wrong!) and learned the 14th street studio was equal walking distance to DuPont Circle from the apartment I was staying in. The studio was friendly and extremely clean. I took class with Paul. I cannot recommend is class enough! He has such a skill to be able to connect with an entire class as well as teach to multiple levels of yoga practices. He offered variations for experienced yogis as well as modifications for beginners. I really enjoyed my class this morning feeling amazing and energetic. As I leave tomorrow, I have Yoga District on the top of my list for my next trip to DC. It was totally worth it! read more

I hate to be the one downer review, but here goes. My review is based on two visits to the studio. My first time, I did a heated yoga with Michael, which I found to be very relaxing and slightly challenging. I appreciated that Michael came by to help deepen my stretches - I'm very flexible from training in circus arts and as an instructor at Pole Pressure down the street., which is not to say that I can't gain anything from yoga. There were certainly some challenging poses and my legs certainly could use some additional training and I can benefit from the meditative properties of yoga. I got a good sweat in, and liked the class just fine. I wasn't raring to go back, but I went back last Friday (with a six or so month hiatus in between) because I recently quit my gym (WSC) in favor of dropping into yoga now and then. Seemed cheaper since I wasn't going enough to justify the WSC cost. Now I might just go back...I went to a Dharma flow level 4 class and was not at all challenged. I preface that by saying I'm sure that this is a challenging class, but from what we did, I wasn't getting much out of it. I broke a light sweat, and yes some of the poses were challenging, but overall, I don't feel like I was given enough variations to push me or enough time to try the things that challenged me. There would be some balances I couldn't do, but we moved on fairly quickly, which really only gave me one shot at trying it out. I found my mind wandering a lot, and that's my own fault, but I kept thinking, "GOD, this class is sooooo long, when is it over." I am not all about the singing/chanting, so my mind was wandering during that portion of the class too. Backbends and arm balances were fine, but I train in contortion too so I didn't find them all that challenging and I would have hoped to be pushed more. The thing that really threw me over the edge was the fact that when we were finally done, I checked the time as I left since there are no clocks there, and the class went over by FIFTY MINUTES. My 1.5 hour class turned into a 2 hour and 20 minute class. HOLY FUCK!!!! What if students had other engagements to attend???? I guess it's up to you to keep time, but out of respect, I turned off my phone and stored it in my bag in the cubicle. I suppose its extremely generous of the instructor to give of his time so freely, and yes, my $10 certainly went a long way, but seriously??? Like all forms of fitness/activity/movement, each person will seek/take away something different from different classes and the instructors. I can't say that I'm enthralled with my experience at Yoga District yet and I'm a little adverse to using more time to figure it all out. I certainly don't want to take away from the other reviewer's experience since yoga/fitness/sports/movement are extremely personal ways of spending our time. I haven't been to CorePower in years, but I loved it and would say that I'll check out the G-town studio when it opens end of March even though it's a super trek from Columbia Heights. I found their classes more athletic and more in my vibe, what with the use of popular music and keeping the chanting to a minimum. read more

The fist time we took a class I was more than a bit skeptical about the walk-up studio carved out of the 2nd floor of an old run-down townhouse at 14th & T. We kept sampling classes at their various studios (and enjoyed them all). I used to kid my better half that going to the 14th Street was our attempt at doing ghetto yoga...but the friendliness of the teachers and volunteers and the quality of the classes have won us over. Shortly thereafter, the simplicity of the studio earned a special place in our hearts. We love all 3 studios...each has its own unique feel, with a common welcoming spirit. The teachers are all great, the price is right and Yoga District's commitment to the community only adds to the feel-good vibe. Yoga shouldn't be about a fancy studio with frills. After all, you only need an instructor and enough floor space with room for your mat...its about simplicity and breathing...while working to contort yourself into a pretzel. read more

I was really pleased with Yoga District on 14th. It wasn't nearly as packed as the one in Dupont, the instructors are super friendly, and the space made me feel like I was doing yoga in someone's living room and not some tricked out Matrix-style high-tech studio. I like my yoga to be relaxed and inviting, not metallic and hip. Keep in mind though that if you need absolute quiet this space might not be for you. The walls aren't well insulated and you can hear everything going on at 14th and T, which on this night happened to be a young man who kept yelling the word "bitch" and other words that I dare not repeat on Yelp. After cancelling my gym membership earlier this summer, I decided to give Yoga District a try (I was using the gym mostly for classes anyway). Although their locations in Downtown DC and on 14th Street have always caught my eye, I didn't explore it further until recently... which I absolutely regret not checking out earlier. Here are all the things I love about Yoga District: 1) The variety of classes and large schedule. This makes a huge difference for me because it means I don't have to rush. Since I can't always leave work promptly at 5:00pm to commute home, change, and make it to the studio, I find myself arriving already feeling relaxed. 2) There's a lot of flexibility on how to sign up and pay for classes (I highly recommend the 3-month pass). They also accept walk-ins. 3) The flexible cancellation policy. Pre-paid classes are fully refundable. You can cancel online up to 90 minutes before the class or send them an email (so I don't have to stress about not getting my money back if I'm stuck at work late). 4) Classes are affordable. When I have to pay more than $15 per class at other places, it's counterproductive because doesn't ease my stress at all. 5) Yoga District is operated like a non-profit and part of the staff are volunteers. 6) All of the instructors and fellow yogis are super friendly. So far, the only small complaint I have is that classes can get very crowded and uncomfortable, especially if there's a teachers training group in the class. I wish they had better measures for limiting class sizes. read more

Andrea D continues to challenge and inspire her students both physically and mentally. In class on 12/30/2019 (at 14th St), she had us do a much slower flow, actually 5 deep breaths per pose, as a way to make us cognizant of our breathing and how it connects to movements. I cannot wait to do that flow again. The positive energy and vibe from us in the room were clearly palpable. It is not all serious though -- Andrea uses humor with her students to keep a balance, such as when we joked about whether we would have to do the long breaths in chaturanga (yes, we did, and we loved it!). Andrea knows how to read the room each class and adapt her style -- it surely is a talent! read more

Average studio. Location at 14th irked me as there is no lobby, so I was chillin' awkwardly in a hallway with what looked like private residences. I don't need a shiny pink studio at all, but this was kinda weird. The teachers don't stick to the start and end times and weren't very creative (ie: no themes, no core or heart opening focuses). I didn't get a good work out either, but I rarely do in DC studios. read more

I'm new to yoga and am trying out a variety of studios - including Tranquil Space in Arlington and Buddha B just around the corner - but I recently bought the 3 classes in 7 days pass for $10. Last night was a Yoga 1/2 class with Julia, and it was absolutely marvelous. It was a little warm, true, but she showed us plenty of variations on poses, was encouraging, and really seemed to know her stuff. And, I feel GREAT the next morning. Sore enough, limber...yeah. I enjoy yoga for three reasons: (1) Mental relaxation; (2) Its spiritual elements; and (3) the physical exercise. Yoga district helped me achieve (1) and (2) but not (3). The space is intimate and my instructor was friendly. The session focused heavily on technique and concentration. I would have appreciated some more poses/exercises that were physically strenuous, particularly ones that focused on muscles (strength training) and less on tendons and ligaments (stretching). I went to a class here last night, and i've also been to the dupont studio as well. as far as the classes: i went to flow yoga at dupont, and then i went to power yoga at 14th, with Sean as the instructor. power yoga was by far my fav out of the two, it was a HARD workout, and Sean really pushes you. He was cracking me up, not your typical yoga instructor by any means, if you want peace and serenity dont go to his class, its hard core, and he curses and pushes you like you wouldnt believe. flow yoga at dupont was very basic venyasa,a nd the instructor wasnt memorable to me. both studio's are TINY! we are squeezed in there like sardines in a can, so it was really hard to get the full benefit of the class and some of the moves, because of that. make sure to register online for the class, it fills up every time, and they turned people away both classes! they rent out mats, and the 14th street one had all the perks, water, towels, blankets, cleaner, blocks, etc (i didnt see any of this in the other studio but maybe i just missed it. read more

Excellent low-key yoga studio with affordable prices. I've been practicing Kundalini for 15 years and Candice is one of the best instructors I've had. I recommend taking her classes if you are new to this kind of yoga. It would be great for Yoga District to offer Kundalini classes during the week! I think the only classes available now are Sunday morning (14th street) and Friday night (Glover Park). read more
