A tremendous benefit of working from home is that I can now take regular online classes with Edgar a couple of times a week with Yoga District. His classes are exactly what I want -- stretching, core exercises, and some strength training -- to help me stretch out my aging muscles on the days when I am not running. His classes are easy to follow, and you work up a little sweat without any difficult acrobatics. But it is mostly just stretching myself out and building some muscles. The prices are very reasonable. Having a set time helps me quit working and quickly unroll my mat to take class. I have never met Edgar in person, but I miss him on the days I miss class! read more

I took a class last weekend and was truly impressed. The instructor (Aaron) and the students were very welcoming. Aaron is by far an awesome instructor! His energy flowed through the room with the occasional light hearted comments to get us through some intense positions/holds. All while reminding us to breathe and make the experience our own. His class offers a great warm up, modifications and just enough difficulty to make you love the experience. Highly recommend! Also, the location is perfect for a post yoga brunch :) read more

4.5 stars Yoga District is hands down my favorite yoga chain in the District (affordable and nonprofit driven). Now that they've expanded to H St, it's much easier for me to get to from Capitol Hill (most of the yoga on the hill seems to be prenatal anyway). BONUS! Capital Bikeshare just opened a kiosk at 6th and H, so now I definitely don't have an excuse for skipping class. The 14th Street studio is still my favorite due to the variety of classes and times, as well as the layout of the rooms. That being said, this studio is a few months old and still establishing its community feeling. Small changing and waiting areas compared to their other studios (Dupont looks HUGE after seeing this place).The H St studio is still feeling things out, and sometimes the class times seem a little bit weirdly timed. The studio itself is kind of oddly laid out - the bathroom creates a weird nook on one side of the class, and the staircase leads to a narrow landing where you awkwardly try to remove your shoes without plummeting down the stairs. Plus, it's been overly warm a couple of times I've gone. I really dislike the heat in Bikram yoga, so please don't let your studio get that hot! But anyway, I'm just being nitpicky and haven't clicked with an instructor yet at this location. I love YD, their staff, and the community. Can't wait to try their restorative class on Tuesday nights (I can do yoga later at night? Because it's close to home!) Basics about YD across all five studios: Free towel usage, and free mat storage if you label and bind your mat. And of course, free water. I wish there was a general entry for yoga district because while the studios are all a little different (duh), the instructors rotate throughout all locations and each one has a similar design and pleasant environment. The H St location is especially nice, very airy and on this particular day in August the perfect temperature (I'll have to take more classes to properly assess, but heating/cooling issues is the #1 problem I have with yoga studios). It does have a hilariously narrow stairway to the upper floor studio so be careful and try not to accidentally smack people with your yoga mat like I did.... I'm a semi-regular at 14th, I St, Dupont and Bloomingdale but was drawn to H St by the title of a class I'd never seen offered at any of the other locations, "Yoga 1 with Soul Music". Hoping it would be a "soul train", not "your inner self" soundtrack I signed up right away. And total score! Yoga class to a soundtrack featuring Marvin Gaye is amazing :) read more

Update: I've been back a few times and the smell is 50/50. Sometimes there's no smell and other times its sickening. They really need to do something about it because the fans aren't helping. This place is bigger than the Dupont studio because it's a uniform shape - it's a long narrow row house with a new floor. The doors stay locked until 15 min before class. They are welcoming of the deaf community. Kelly was a wonderful teacher. She taught a challenging flow class, made corrections, and was just very charming. I still think 22 people is way too many people in this place. You can't see the instructor and have your mats too close to your neighbor. Unfortunately it's over a nail salon and sitting on my mat all I could smell was the fumes rising. The studio had the window open, fans blowing and incense burning but still the nail fumes were just too much for me. read more

Without a doubt, this is my favorite place in the city to practice. I love the atmosphere at all of the Yoga District locations I've been to, because you can tell it really is about the community and about the practice. But this studio is so beautiful--it feels like you're practicing in someone's home, which to me is very welcoming, and the exposed brick and big windows (on the second floor, so no one peeping in) are really inviting. While I wish it was slightly closer to my house, finding street parking here isn't completely impossible, and it's right off H St so very central to this part of the city. All of the teachers I've had have brought their own style of instruction, which I value, but all have the same welcoming and approachable attitude toward their classes. Many (most?) of their classes are taught at Levels 1-2 or All Levels, which means that someone new to yoga can show up and still feel like they're in the right place, but a more experienced yogi can find challenge. I also value their commitment to keeping prices low. It's $12/class without a mat rental, which is so reasonable, and I believe $100/month for unlimited yoga. I can't say enough wonderful things about this place! read more

I initially gave Yoga District a one-star review because an instructor taught an advanced class instead of the entry-level class their web site advertised. It was really a bad experience. However, I'm so happy with the way Yoga District handled it that I'm changing my review to 4 stars. I emailed the studio, complaining that their class descriptions didn't match at all with the actual classes. I got a long email back from the owner, who acknowledged there was a problem with their class descriptions. He said they hope to have a new web site up and running in October with more detailed descriptions of both the class AND the instructor's style. It's really impressive that the owner took my complaint seriously and devoted so much time to giving me a detailed response. Kudos! I'm leaving off one star because I think the studio is too crowded. I wish they'd either keep class sizes smaller or find a way to get more space. Give this place a try! read more

I just recently started attending classes at Yoga District. So far I've been to both the H Street and 14th Street studios. My favorite is definitely the H Street studio. It has a very relaxing vibe, and is just so easy to get to and park near. The other students are quite friendly and the mix seems to really represent the neighborhood. After searching for years for an affordable and low-key yoga studio in DC, I'm so excited to have discovered Yoga District. The classes are truly about the poses and the meditation rather than some I have attended which seem to focus exclusively on the physical results. I always leave class feeling refreshed and energized! I will say that thus far Paul is my favorite instructor. He is perfect for beginners as he explains poses, helps you make adjustments, and is just really approachable. read more

The studio's humbleness makes its authenticity shine all the more brightly within its walls. As one would imagine most yoga studios offer a supportive, compassionate and inclusive community, but Not Yoga District. After purchasing a package during COVID I became anxious about the ever changing pandemic guidance and struggled with postpartum and asked them to extend my package so I could practice when I was more comfortable. They refused to allow me more time to use the classes I purchased in the midst of this pandemic. Part of my anxiety also had to with the cleanliness of their H st studio. I appreciate the charm of an older studio but the stairs and corners are covered in dust, still I gave them grace and another chance because it's a pandemic after all, but unfortunately, they aren't so gracious in return. read more

Love the price and love the teachers! I've tried 3 different teachers with 3 different yoga teaching styles and all 3 of them were experts, friendly, and excited to practice with you. My favorite teacher, though, is Marie Belle. She is challenging and does the craziest poses but she shows you the different levels to get there so you could still be a beginner and take her class. However, I would recommend to have some level of experience before you try her Rocket Yoga class. My body definitely feels it the next day. They also have free water and towels for you to use. The only downside is the small space. You don't have any room to change and most of Marie Belle's classes are mat to mat. Luckily most of the students are nice, so they usually apologize if they kick you in the face. jk. read more

I've tried many yoga studios in DC and all over the world and nothing really compares to Yoga District. The teachers are knowledgeable, friendly and attentive and always make you feel right at home. Ive grown to love the practice of yoga so much through YD that I pursued a teacher training through them. YD offers the most diverse range of class types of anywhere in the city - there's a class for anyone. Patrick's Rocket yoga is one of my favorites at H Street. There are more spiritual classes, more fun/music-driven classes...at times throughout the day so you can go when it's convenient for you. On top of all this, it's the most affordable studio around, offers free water and a clean, nice, but no-frills environment. I can't recommend this studio enough. If you go and don't have a lovely experience, email them. They're super responsive and will make things right. They're all about community and are wonderful at nurturing that. read more

I have taken the Yoga 1 classes with Cara/Erin here as well as Power Flow with Klydie and Yogalates with Christina. While the space is small (it's only 1 room), it gets the job done. I have found all of the instructors to be extremely competent, kind, welcoming, and encouraging. I particularly appreciate the way in which they make the classes seem accessible to all levels. The vibe of the studio has not been a competitive one, which is typically a turn off to me therefore it works. It is more of a "Come and do what works for you" type of vibe. The Mon/Wed Yoga 1 class with Erin gets pretty full, so I highly recommend signing up in advance and coming a little early. Friday's Yogalates is super chill, just hard enough to keep me coming back, but not too intense that it wrecks my Friday night vibe. Power Flow was great and invigorating - not as challenging as I thought it would be but still a great pace and excellent energy in the room. Due to the full house classes, the teachers aren't able to give you assists as they do in smaller classes (when there is more space between people). I typically appreciate the assists but I do understand it's not physically possible. I have received assists in the less full classes but they always give an option to indicate at the beginning if you do not want an assist. Just something to keep in mind! This is a great value for your money, and if you live in the neighborhood it's really convenient! My practice continues to improve every week that I return. read more

While my overall experience at Yoga District has been good, this review is solely about my time with one teacher, Jarrick. I've practiced all over the US and in Europe for about 15 years now, and Jarrick is among the best teachers I've ever had. His technical skills as a practitioner and teacher are obvious, but he's also the right mix of the guide who effortlessly helps you connect the physical and spiritual elements of your practice, the coach who reminds you of everything you're capable of, and the cheerleader who celebrates your breakthroughs. I've been taking classes at Yoga District for a just under a year and I really like it. A few pointers: - Studio locations: I've been to the I St, H St, Dupont and Bloomingdale locations. The first three are all in old houses and cute, but the studios are small, oddly shaped, and can get really hot, especially in the summer. The Bloomingdale location, is actually shaped like a yoga studio, and it's on the ground level. There's tons of space, and it actually seems like the other students are more friendly, as well. -Pricing: I think Yoga District's pricing is really reasonable. I purchase the 10 class pass and generally have no problems using it up. They're really helpful about helping you transfer over unused classes, too, and understanding if you cancel and want to get that credit back. The pricing is especially reasonable when compared to other yoga studios in the district. They do want to make sure it's accessible. -Instructors: The instructors are great. They're all pretty young and very nice and helpful. The ones I've been to the most are Fiona, Cara G, and Kate A, and they're all great, but even the others I've been to here and there, they're great and down to earth. I've only had one kind of hippy-like instructor, but some people like that, so really there's someone for everyone. - Signing up: I think the online system is great, but it can get really packed. They say they save 2 spots for walk-ins, and they generally do a great job of fitting people in even above that, but it can get very crowded. I've noticed over the last year that the after work classes have gotten really popular, to the point where if you want to reserve, you need to sign up at least 3 or 4 days in advance. The good thing is you can always sign up and then cancel up to 2 hours in advance if you change your mind. If you're willing to wait a little longer, the later classes seem to be less full. When I go to 8:00 classes they always seem to have plenty of room for you, which also means the instructors can be more hands-on. Overall, I really like Yoga District a lot, and it's all but replaced my regular gym routine. Not only is it great exercise, it's also a great stress-relief and way to remind yourself to relax after a hard day of work. read more

Where do I begin. The moment I walked into this place I was greeted with giant smiles from the staff and fellow students. This was in stark contract to my only other Yoga experience which had been at a local Bikram place I will not name. It didn't feel like a yoga factory. It immediately felt like a family. The space itself was so cool being in an old, naturally-lit townhouse. The practice was challenging, but also not intimidating for a guy who has only done yoga a handful of times and is by no means flexible. I will be back many times. Where do I begin...The class, instructor and space were great. Although it was my first time, I plan to return. While challenging, nothing was compulsory. Instructor Andrew was interactive, encouraging and very personable. I was shocked that while I was a bit sore, after I got home I made an Epsom salt bath, woke up refreshed and energetic. Go figure! Really friendly teachers and pretty good classes. Not cheap but definitely affordable for the area/DC. They overbook their 5pm and 6:30pm classes though which makes for a very tight class where you're literally on top of each other...not as relaxing. I recommend 8pm class or afternoons during the weekend. read more

I like this studio, which feels like a cozy oasis floating just above the hustle of H Street. Prices are excellent and the instructors I've had were great. My problem is with the schedule, which consists almost entirely of fast-paced flow classes. Those are fine if you're looking for an alternative to Zumba, but there aren't many options for those of us with goals of realignment and stretching. I love Klydie's Reboot + Restorative class on Friday, but it's offered too early for the office workers it's intended for. I'd give YD five stars if they had more relaxing/restorative classes! read more

I love coming here! Marie belle, Hannah, and Patrick are my go to yogis at this location. They each inspire me to keep going and push myself to my edge. And the interns are awesome here. The studio is small so get there early, doors are opened 15 minutes before the next class, so you can get your mat in a good spot. I recommend a spot near the window, it's a revelation when they open the window and the fresh DC air rolls in on your sweat covered body. Seriously. Also just an FYI if you haven't come here before, the hallway/stairwell gets crowded when classes are colliding so be prepared to possibly have to put your shoes on outside or at the bottom of the steps. read more

It's a small studio, but I really love the proximity and the variety of classes offered. When I moved from Philly, I had only done power yoga (hot vinyasa). There are a few vinyasa classes that I take at this studio and it's actually much more affordable (although I miss the temperature of the old place I went to). Either way, great deal. read more

I'm trying to check out the various studios in my neighborhood and signed up for a 2 class new student pass to give the H St location a try. The studio experience is new for me and I'm definitely a yoga novice so trying new places makes me a bit nervous. My only other exposure has been with nearby Hot Yoga Capitol Hill which I found very welcoming and comfortable. My first class, Sunday Ashtanga, at Yoga District left me with a good impression - the space is calm and relaxing, I was checked in without problems, and the instructor was very engaged and helpful. Her corrections were genuinely useful and will help me improve moving forward. For my second class, I signed up for a Wednesday evening Flow Yoga 1.5+; parking in the area was difficult, which I should have anticipated, and I ended up being 4 minutes late. Signs on the door indicated that is locked when class starts and that I could try to knock lightly or just wait for the next session. I tried the former but didn't persist because I didn't want to disturb the class as I could hear it was in progress. This is all understandable and I appreciate that there is a policy in place to ensure students aren't interrupted. The information is clearly stated in the registration emails, so that's fair. My objection is to how my inquiry about joining another class was (not) addressed. I phoned right after leaving the building and left a message; no one responded. The next day, I sent an email to one address, received an automated response, and forwarded the email to another email address that was provided. That also resulted in an automated response. I really respect that YD is able to provide affordable and accessible service across the city. It just doesn't sit well with me that despite my three attempts to communicate with staff, no one was able to personally and directly follow up with me. Clearly with so many studios, one student here or there isn't going to make or break the company but it's off-putting that there isn't more of an effort to follow up and connect with a newcomer who has questions. It would only take a few minutes and would have a considerable effect on helping new students feel like welcome members of the community. The one class I attended was a positive and insightful experience and I would love to explore the other offerings but the customer service could use some work. read more

Been here twice for power flow yoga with Sara and Andrew, worked up a sweat, and really enjoyed it! It's a small 1-room studio space with a narrow stairwell (makes it a challenge getting in/out between classes) but you make friends easily while waiting outside for class to begin or chatting with your neighbor on the mat. :) And I really appreciate the low-cost drop-in classes and the option to volunteer to offset costs.
