My Summer Haven!!!! I found Yoga Planet Studio on Groupon and I tried the Unlimited Yoga for a month like Lauren S. A month has passed since I used the Groupon and I still find myself coming back for more. I also managed to buy a 3 months Unlimited Yoga Pack for $199 ($100 Off Summer Special). I am currently addicted to the YinShape Hot Vinyasa Class, a class in a very hot room (around 85-90 F) and the place gets hotter as the class gets bigger. I usually create a puddle of sweat around so I always bring a yoga mat towel on top of my yoga mat to avoid slipping. Face towels are also provided in the studio. Another favorite class of mine is the Slow Flow Candlelight. Everyone should try this. The class is so serene and soothing with candles spread all over the bamboo floor. How relaxing is that??? Giuliana is my favorite instructor so far. She teaches most of my classes. She sets the ambience for the practice and motivates you to breathe (to achieve Victoria's Breath aka ujjayi breathing aka oceanic breath) throughout the practice. Giuliana also encourages you to create a modified pose when the yoga pose is far too advanced. She's very helpful in guiding you with the poses, especially for beginners. Jackie also does a great job teaching. She has a very calm personality that draws you in thus creating a very tranquil mood. The studio is very eco-friendly. From the cool bamboo wood floors to the zero VOC paint on the wall, the whole place is environmentally and socially responsible. The studio is also equipped with 2 restrooms/changing rooms. Because law school sucked out my soul and any inclination to do anything other than study and imbibe, I only recently got back into yoga and purchased a Groupon for a month of unlimited yoga at this studio. I have really enjoyed the classes, the atmosphere and, most importantly, the instructors. I have had Giuliana for the majority of my classes, and she does a wonderful job at providing instruction on how to easily flow into the postures and creates a wonderful mood and focus during the classes. I've also had Jackie for a Hot Vinyasa class (she kicked my ass during that class, but in a really good way) and Lindsay for the Ashtanga Elements class. Another great feature about the studio is that everything is made with recycled, chemical-free and toxic-free materials. The studio offers a pretty wide variety of classes at convenient times throughout the day and evening. Also, if you attend a class and find some of the postures difficult, the instructors always offer different, easier options so you can keep with the flow of the class. I've only been practicing here for a few weeks, but the studio has already offered two great discounts on packages. This was my 1st time at this studio, I took a class from Kate Makaroff (co-owner) Her class was delightful, it was the right amount of challenging and accessible! She pushed me to my edge safely, but also encouraged the room to rest and breathe when it was obvious students were "over efforting" Kate's music selection was also a component of the class I throughly enjoyed, the way she seamlessly blended the music and Flows was something I had never experienced before! i did a groupon for this place and I am so sorry that I did, I was so excited to take a class with Giuliana. She teaches most of the classes and got good reviews. I don't know what everyone was thinking. She gave me such a headache five minutes into the class. Talk talk talk the whole time. Slow flow yoga is supposed to be somewhat relaxing... The biggest complaint I have is how she used her legs to correct me and actually knocked me over. Are you kidding me?!!! I have taught pilates classes and would never use me legs to correct a student. She is rough and rude. I will NEVER take one of her classes again. I have 24 classes left, gosh I hope not all the teachers are like this. read more

I went to two beginner classes while visiting the area for the holiday. Really cute small studio, easy to navigate, friendly staff and teachers. The studio has one class space with coat storage and bathrooms in the back. Mats are available for rent for a $1 fee. Although the website says call ahead and reserve a space, I did not have any trouble showing up. In one class, the teacher gave massages with essential oils during savasana and I ran across the street to whole foods after to get the scent! Yummy! read more

I'm no pro yogi or anything, but I have been to a couple studios and this one is great. Such a great atmosphere. I did basic yoga with Jill. She was very helpful when explaining poses and very calming. I felt relaxed, stretched, and strong afterwards. She even gave some really good pieces of advice during meditation that I use often during every day things! Love that. Very clean studio. Gee, based on the responses from the Owner to mildly negative reviews, it makes me thankful I am not returning. I don't mean to "hide behind anonymous reviews", I actually did talk directly with Guliana regarding my request for an extension on my package due to surgery but she just talked over me and told me to "work it out" in front of a room full of people. This place needs some serious coaching on how to care for customers. And it appears they're having employees posting reviews on their behalf? Yuck. read more

First, I should say that I've practiced yoga for over 10 years and have been to more than just a handful of places offering yoga. Lately, I've been trying Groupons to find another place to add to where I already go. Every other yoga studio I have tried lately has been superior to Yoga Planet and I am going to forfeit the rest of the money I spent on this one. To begin my experience, when I looked at the Yoga Planet website, there were courses described that weren't in the schedule for the week and a course that was in the class schedule that wasn't described. I was confused, so I called, left a message. No call back. (A description of this course, Slow Burn, was added after my visit.) Since there was no answer. I decided to just go to a later class when someone would probably be there. (I had called early.) So, I did and encountered the woman mentioned positively in the other reviews, who was very defensive about what I thought I was just trying to get information about. She said that no one was there except when classes were going on so I couldn't reach them by phone. Ok, but what really bothered me is she started in on explaining that these courses I was asking about weren't being taught now, but would be kept on the description page of the website because one would be at a later time. (Later was over 6 months from now.) She claimed that other studios didn't update their websites often either. I know that to be far from true! The two other yoga studios that I just experienced lately (and they are both great in all ways) offer so many more classes and nothing is listed that is not taught that week at some time by someone. I went in to practice, more upset that I'd like at a yoga place where I go to relax and waited for the class to start. This receptionist/teacher (same woman, maybe owner?) didn't come to start the class until almost 15 minutes after the scheduled time to begin. She entered late with apologies. A woman had been in the wrong studio. I understand how this could happen, but at these other studios I have mentioned, there is someone at the desk most of the time to deal with things like this, and answer calls. The worst was to come.The physical shape of the yoga room here is like a shoebox, very long and narrow. My class began with some yoga doctrine, not uncommon, but this predominated the class instead of instruction on actual yoga poses. And due to the shape of the room and the instructor walking constantly from front to back, and I mean constantly, the volume of her voice went from low to high like a bad sound connection. Pretty frustrating when you are trying to learn a new sequence of poses. Then, at a point near the end, the music suddenly blasted through the room. Yikes! If you compare the number of offerings here to other studios online, that should give you your first glimpse into the limitations of this studio.The only time that I have seen fewer yoga offerings was at a gym (and the yoga experience was better there.) I am not going back even though my Groupon would cover four more classes. I know that yoga teaches acceptance, but don't go so far as to think that you have to accept everything to be a good yogi/yogini. read more

I always pass by this studio so I figured I would give it a try. The studio is quite spacious and clean. The staff is very welcoming and helpful. The prices are pretty reasonable and they have great packages (and a student discount!). The classes themselves are great. I absolutely love the YinShape Vinyasa classes (especially with Paul). They are sometime a bit crowded but not to the extent that they affect the experience. The flows are well constructed, very challenging with nice modifications for beginners. I often find myself creating a pool of sweat so towels are definitely a must. The teachers are motivating but I wish they would give a little more instruction and more adjustments. read more

My better half noticed this yoga studio while shopping at Trader Joe's (with friends we were visiting) and wanted to check it out. We were nicely greeted right away and to make a long story short, ended up taking a class the same day and one more the next day, before returning home. All in all, great experience, very nice place, very nice people offering a variety of classes (wish we could try every class and instructor) and great deals which unfortunately we could not take advantage of since we were in town for a few days only. Still, we are happy we gave them a try, way better than the yoga classes we have taken at our local 24 Hour Fitness. Smaller classes in a comfortable, intimate environment and incomparable more personal attention make for a much better yoga (learning) experience. Needless to say, we are currently looking for a similar studio in our area. :-) read more
