Great place for your yoga practice. They offer a ton of mixed level classes. If you're a beginner, I would suggest basic beginners, gentle yoga, and either restorative or yin. If you're looking for a more of a challenge, or have some yoga knowledge of the asanas (what the poses are called in Sanskrit) then I would suggest either their vinyasa flow or hot yoga. Be warned hot yoga is called that for a reason, the room is heated to 95*. The heat of the room allows your muscles and tendons to open up, which allows for greater flexibility and movements. Being a advanced practitioner myself, with nearly a decade of practice. I tend to the more advance classes, and I've taken both the vinyasa and hot classes here at Santosha. I liked both classes but being a teacher myself, I find that my "attachments" get in the way...... If you've ever taken a class, it's likely you know what I'm taking about. What I think is great about this yoga studio is that they truly offer something for everybody- and I mean every BODY. People have this misconception and the stereotype yoga is only for the skinny, female, flexible types. But it's not true. Yoga is truly for every body type. You don't have to be flexible, be able to touch your toes or ever learn an arm balance or inversion (if you want to though, that's welcome!). Yoga is about being present. Letting go of the past and not worrying or obsessing over the future. Santosha is a very welcoming yoga studio. The teachers are patient, encouraging and knowledgeable in their specific classes. Like I said this yoga studio truly offers classes for every level of practitioners. From first timers, beginners to advance practitioners or even people with limited mobility or injuries (chair yoga offered!). There is a class for you. If you're looking to expand your yoga practice, they offer yoga teacher training here. Whether you just want to learn more about yoga- the history/lineage/8 limbs etc., take your practice deeper or if you're looking to become a teacher yourself. Then you could take YTT and get your 300/500 hours in. Drop in classes are $16, which is great. A lot of other studios these days are charging $20-$25 for 1 class. If you want to save even more money buy a pack of classes, or get an unlimited month or multiple month package. Be sure to bring everything your personal items- mat, water bottles and towels (for vinyasa and hot yoga), but know that they do provide props, should you need them. I decided to check out Santosha Yoga after looking for a studio offering Vinyasa and wanting to get back into yoga. It had been a decade since I'd been regularly to class and I was a little concerned Id be able to keep up. Put those fears away! Santosha is fabulous! The instructors are great and the owner is really committed to her business, clients, and providing high quality services. She has a soft, relaxing voice & cellphones are banned in the actual studio room (such a wonderful plus for the classes as it truly is an hour getaway!). The classes start promptly on time. The studio is relaxing with dimmed lighting, soft music, & climate controlled temperature. All new students get a week of unlimited classes for free. After this, classes are $9-15/class depending upon if you buy a package. They also have unlimited monthly options. Mats and props are free to use in class. The studio also offers a small retail area, workshops, & massage. Shoes and personal items are kept in cubbies outside the studio- leave ur cell and purse in the car! I LOVE Santosha Yoga. It's my sanctuary, church, doctor's office, exercise space, therapist. In October 2012 when I first started, I was a little intimidated to walk in the door. Preconceived notions of thin people judging me, poked at my low self-esteem and overweight body. How I wish I had gone in the day they opened their doors! Nothing could be further from reality. People of all shapes, sizes, ages, ethnicities, genders and levels of preparedness greeted me with a warm smile. I've learned to laugh at myself while steadily increasing my fitness levels, both mental and physical. It is the best thing I have done for myself, maybe ever. I often recommend Santosha Yoga to people face to face, but wanted to extend it to my friends online. I strongly recommend Santosha Yoga to anyone that really wants to do yoga the right way and get the maximum benefits from your practice. I have gone to a couple other yoga studios in the past and they pale by comparison to Santosha. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming for people of all fitness levels and whether you have done yoga for a decade or are just trying it for the first time, you will be well taken care of there by the staff. Santosha also has a good variety of times for their classes so that people like me with very busy schedules can even go at 8:15 p.m. This takes away the excuses for not taking time for yourself. They focus on letting go of stress and ego and just taking care of yourself for the time you are there. That is something I need more of in my life. There is also a little lounge area with some coffee/tea and water and they keep a jar of mints on the counter for you to have on your way in/out of class. I've only been to a couple classes but this place is awesome and exactly what I needed. I am from out of town here for a family emergency and was looking for a little peace during some really difficult times. The Zumba and crossfit is too much for me emotionally right now. I have never taken a exercise class in my entire life, but have always wanted to try yoga. Since I pass Santosha everyday on my way to work, I decided to take the plunge and try the free week of classes that they give to new members. I am not going to lie, I was super nervous about my first yoga class because I had no idea what to expect, and I had absolutely no clue what I was doing. My anxiety and stress, the reasons why I wanted to try yoga in the first place, were through the roof. Waiting for my first class, a super friendly lady at the front desk explained to me where to put my shoes and other belongings, where to find the restrooms, massage room, etc. She answered questions I had about class sizes and what to bring into class. I was pleasantly surprised that there are mats, blankets, ropes, and blocks always there for anyone to use at any time, since I obviously had no equipment whatsoever. The owner, Theresa, came over and introduced herself to me before class and really put my mind at ease about being a beginner and just going at my own pace. She, and the other instructors there I have practiced with, have great senses of humor, which is refreshing and personally important for me to feel comfortable. I left an hour later knowing that that was exactly where I was supposed to be, and that it was exactly the kind of therapy I need for my stress and anxiety and the toll it takes on me, not only emotionally, but physically as well. I have only taken three classes so far, but I know that this is the place I am going to invest myself in. Theresa even helped me pick out a mat to purchase that fits my height, and told me how to properly take care of it. They give you a free session to use up to 15 days from your birthday, and even offer a MILITARY DISCOUNT! Could you get any more perfect?
