The Vibe: A philosophy-rooted, music-free, fire-building flow. You will find your breath,…read moreinternal heat, focus, and community energy. The Studio: You walk up the stairs and immediately feel like you are in an urban sanctuary above the city. The space is light, bright, and spacious, with warm tones, natural light, and a calm energy throughout. There are two yoga rooms, an infrared sauna room, changing rooms, and cubbies inside the practice space. The reception area includes complimentary tea, a water station, and a simple self check-in. Friendly staff are present if you need anything. The Class/Teacher (Shiva Flow at 12:30 p.m.): After a morning job, slipping into this midday class was an absolute treat! Michelle May personally welcomed me, made sure I had a tour, brought blocks and a strap to my mat, and introduced herself before we began. We started in Easy Pose, where she opened with philosophy on tapas, the internal fire we step into to burn away what no longer serves. She guided us to notice the breath, then the mind, simply observing. Three collective Oms to connect the room. And then we were off...halfway through Sun B, I realized there was no music, just Michelle's voice and the sound of the room breathing together. It was that powerful. This was a strong, continuous flow with options for Crow, Flying Crow, Flying Splits, and creative transitions, such as Tree to Extended Standing Split and Half Moon to Warrior 3 and back again. Michelle continually reminded us to tap into the fire, breathe, and let go. It was that "non-stop, can't stop, don't want to stop, ahhhh, feels so good" kind of yoga. When we finally came down to the mat, she offered hands on adjustments. In reclined Eagle, she anchored my shoulder and gently guided my crossed knees toward the floor (serious Divine release!). We closed the same way we began, seated, noticing the breath, noticing the mind, three collective Oms. This class was FIRE, but conscious fire. Practical Notes: Free parking lot across the street designated for Shiva Yoga Complimentary tea and water station Self check-in system Infrared sauna room Changing rooms and bathroom Cubbies inside the yoga room Friendly, welcoming staff After Effects: I left feeling calmer, clearer, lighter, and very curious about their Power Yoga class. If this was Shiva Flow, I can only imagine . Such an afternoon gift. I will be back!

This training was incredibly transformative, and a huge part of that was Lou and the experience of working in his beautiful studio, Astro Gong. From the moment we stepped into the space, you could feel the intention behind it. The studio itself is stunning -- grounding, expansive, and filled with an energy that immediately invites presence and depth. Being surrounded by his collection of gongs and instruments created an atmosphere that felt both sacred and inspiring. Lou is a true gong master. His knowledge, passion, and reverence for the instrument are undeniable. Watching him play and learning directly from him ignited something powerful within me -- a deep desire to connect more fully with the gong and explore its potential. He teaches not just technique, but relationship -- how to listen, feel, and allow the instrument to speak. The experience inside his studio alone was worth it. It felt immersive, intentional, and deeply moving. I left feeling inspired, expanded, and profoundly grateful.

The Vibe: Freedom Begins with Noticing…read more I arrived on the 4th of July with three intentions: Freedom. Sovereignty. Awe. Rumi said, "What you seek is seeking you." Quietly...each one found me. From the second you approach this studio, you can feel an energetic buzz in the air. Fun music. Bright smiles. Three welcoming women had everyone checked in and ready to practice in no time. Field Note: Travel light. Mat, yoga towel, & sweat towel are all provided - and yes, there's onsite parking too. The Guide: Leah Soboroff * Power Flow Before class began, Leah greeted every new student by name. Then came the 1st invitation. She let us know we'd be practicing facing one another today, and invited us to turn toward another yogi, make eye contact, and simply say hello. I'll be honest. Resistance surfaced immediately. Oh, there you are again. (If you know, you know. Thank you, Ram Dass.) So I breathed. Exhaled. And moved with. Leah then reminded us that yoga isn't only an individual practice...it's also communal. Since it was Independence Day, she encouraged us to practice differently. Play. Laugh. Don't take yourself so seriously. Throughout class, she kept returning to one simple invitation: "Step outside and around yourself...and find a new perspective." Waiting... instead of rushing. Looking... instead of assuming. Meeting another person's eyes... instead of staying inside our own world. At one point, I wanted to hurry up & move ahead into the next posture before she cued it. Immediately, Leah gently reminded us to notice our tendency to hurry toward the next thing. I noticed. Oh...there you are again. Breathe in. Breathe out. Move with. (That felt like yoga.) We began lying on our backs, using a block beneath our neck as a gentle massage before slowly flowing into practice. Leah cued Sanskrit first, English second, and offered gaze cues to assist in transitions. One particular sequence stayed with me. Leah didn't just guide the movement. She gave the movement meaning. From balancing on one leg, she invited us to step courageously into the world as we launched into Crescent. Then she called us back: Return home to yourself. And there we were...launched back to balance. Along the way, she sprinkled in wisdom: Stretching the left side - notice your heart, your intuition. Stretching the right - notice the sun, your intellect. Even her assists carried intention. One in Down Dog invited stillness into the body so the mind could settle. Another gently opened my chest in Upward Facing Dog, creating a little more space. By the time we arrived in King Arthur and then Wall Pigeon, I couldn't believe class was already winding down. The Tribe: Practicing Together Facing one another is never my first choice; however, I'm convinced that's why it mattered. * Making eye contact, acknowledging another human being, and recognizing that wisdom exists all around us, not just inside us. Leah reminded us there are "pockets of wisdom" throughout the room. Sometimes all we have to do...is step outside ourselves long enough to notice. Space & Place: The studio carries a fresh, bright, and contemporary energy. Natural light, warm wood floors, clean white walls, curated artwork, sculptural pieces, and fully stocked amenities fill the space. The spacious, light-filled yoga room creates room for free movement in body & mind. The Takeaway Before class, Leah said something that stayed with me. Yoga lets us see our thoughts. Our tendencies. Our patterns. And then... I noticed. Oh...there you are again. Breathe in. Breathe out. Move with. Ahhh... Freedom. To notice. Sovereignty. To choose. Awe. That we can.

The class was challenging, and the heat was no joke, but Eric was super encouraging, and the music made the class feel less stressful. I love that they provide mats and towels when you arrive, and the studio is very well maintained. The studios and showers are super clean. However, parking is a pain since it is in Weho, I recommend giving yourself 10-20 minutes to find parking.

His method of movement and instruction is high energy, intense postures with fluidity, and a bit of cardio to get the heart moving. I loved that he made us take water breaks, but not enough to bring the heart rate down. His dance breaks kept the energy up when I thought I might give up. It is a class to attend and he is amazing. My second class was on Monday. The structure and outline of the Ali's 5:15 pm Mat Pilates class was great. It's my first time for any Pilates class and I think this was closer to the traditional with a little yoga and cardio. It was intense and strong. The only thing I would have liked would have been alternative moves for newbies in class for some of the more intense plank work with lots of movement. I just did downward dog with a little walk or knee movement or stayed in plank, if possible. But I wasn't sure if that was correct to do in the alternative or if there was another move I could have done. A verbal confirmation or suggestion would have been great. She definitely knows the body and how to push it to the max level of tuning. I will take her class again, but I feel like I have to research some of the yoga/pilates terms to know what position she is talking about. She's an excellent teacher for higher levels. I'll get there one day. They are very different in their instruction, but both highly effective. Thank you both for the challenge.

The Vibe: Presence Begins Before the Mat…read more Sometimes the yoga starts before you unroll your mat: Parking. An out-of-order payment app. Timing. ‍ Then came the first interaction. A smile & question: "First time?" Another line of students began to form, but the moment wasn't rushed. Directions were given. Questions were answered. Full attention stayed exactly where it was. Looking back, the teaching had already begun. That kind of presence is contagious. * Field Note: Whoever is standing in front of you...make them feel like they're the only one there. (I've got some practicing to do.) The Guide - North Ray Flow 2: Áine O'Regan We began in Supta Baddha Konasana, connecting breath before movement. Áine set the tone: See if you can keep your breath as steady throughout class as it is right now. If your mind wanders somewhere away from here...bring it back to yourself, back on the mat. From there, the class unfolded in such a gentle climb that an hour felt effortless. The cueing was so fluid that as we repeatedly moved from Star Pose into Goddess, I disappeared into the rhythm of Levo (Club Edit) by Recondite. (Completely immersed.) They've found the Goldilocks of hot yoga: The heat, the lighting, the pacing, the music, the movement. Everything feels just right. (If you're curious about hot yoga, this is an easy studio to recommend.) The Tribe: Presence in Practice During my short visit, I noticed people holding doors for one another, making eye contact, and smiling. After class, when I asked Áine about the music, she didn't simply tell me the song. She walked me through Spotify until we found the playlist. Space & Place: Modern bohemian Exposed brick. Skylights. Warm wood beams. Infrared heat. You'll leave drenched...somehow more energized. The Takeaway: Presence Is Contagious I came in open to whatever surfaced. Tonight...it was presence. It began at the front desk. Continued with the breath. Ended in Savasana. Some studios teach yoga. Some embody it. North Ray is one of them.

The Vibe: A Deep Exhale…read more The message begins outside with a giant reminder: BREATHE. Enough said, right? As soon as I walked in, MJ welcomed me & gave me a tour of the space. As we walked through the studio, we ran into our guide, Joe Kara. Meeting your yoga teacher before class is such a treat, and Joe was just as kind, welcoming, & grounded as MJ. The Guide: Joe Kara's Urban Flow 60 We began seated, grounding into the Earth and connecting with our ujjayi breath before moving through Surya Namaskar to gradually awaken the body. The class unfolded into a beautiful, steady vinyasa flow , one breath, one movement at a time. Joe's music was intentionally lyric-free: down-tempo electronic tracks. Songs like You Wish by Nightmares on Wax carried the practice forward, matching the rhythm of his calm, steady voice. As Joe moved quietly throughout the room, he read the energy of his students. His cues invited us to deepen through breath, alignment, & awareness. With permission, I received two assists during class. The first was in Hand-to-Big-Toe Pose, helping my body soften deeply into the fold. We played with rolling side-to-side in Parsva Dhanurasana (Side Bow Pose), which was new for me and had me feeling it in all sorts of places. Before I knew it, we were in savasana, where I received my second assist: A gentle grounding of my shoulders into the floor. It felt like I was melting into the Earth () We closed seated, observing the quality of our breath, the quality of our mind, & the quality of our spirit before Joe thanked us for sharing our energy, time, & presence with him on our beautiful Sunday morning. Ahhhh, yoga really is that sweet. The Tribe: Moving Together, Exploring Individually There was a nice collective rhythm in the room. We moved together breath by breath, yet Joe created plenty of opportunities to explore our own practice. Want to play with Crow to Headstand, handstands, or forearm stands? Explore. Prefer to stay with the back-bending sequence and his steady guidance? It's all good. That freedom to challenge yourself or honor exactly where you are is one of the things I love about yoga. The Space & Place: Industrial Calm & Simplicity Urban 728 is an unassuming little hidden treasure in Los Angeles. The exterior is modern and minimalist, with a giant BREATHE mural, a threshold between the outside world and the practice waiting inside. Inside, the space feels open, airy, and simple: Clean lines, natural light, polished concrete floors, warm wood details, and a fun retail area (I indulged ). The yoga room itself is spacious and beautiful, with dark wood floors, high ceilings, white walls, and plenty of room to move and breathe. Practical Notes - Parking: Free parking lot. Amenities: Private showers, restrooms, & plenty of amenities. Heat: Warm, but not hot. I came away with a light sweat (a shower is optional - I chose to simply change clothes). Good to Know: From MJ's thoughtful tour to Joe's welcoming presence and mindful assists, there was a genuine sense of care throughout the entire experience. The Sum-Up: A giant wall says BREATHE before you enter. Joe spends the next 60 minutes guiding you back to it. And by the end, you simply feel better.
