The Vibe: A philosophy-rooted, music-free, fire-building flow. You will find your breath, internal heat, focus, and community energy. The Studio: You walk up the stairs and immediately feel like you are in an urban sanctuary above the city. The space is light, bright, and spacious, with warm tones, natural light, and a calm energy throughout. There are two yoga rooms, an infrared sauna room, changing rooms, and cubbies inside the practice space. The reception area includes complimentary tea, a water station, and a simple self check-in. Friendly staff are present if you need anything. The Class/Teacher (Shiva Flow at 12:30 p.m.): After a morning job, slipping into this midday class was an absolute treat! Michelle May personally welcomed me, made sure I had a tour, brought blocks and a strap to my mat, and introduced herself before we began. We started in Easy Pose, where she opened with philosophy on tapas, the internal fire we step into to burn away what no longer serves. She guided us to notice the breath, then the mind, simply observing. Three collective Oms to connect the room. And then we were off...halfway through Sun B, I realized there was no music, just Michelle's voice and the sound of the room breathing together. It was that powerful. This was a strong, continuous flow with options for Crow, Flying Crow, Flying Splits, and creative transitions, such as Tree to Extended Standing Split and Half Moon to Warrior 3 and back again. Michelle continually reminded us to tap into the fire, breathe, and let go. It was that "non-stop, can't stop, don't want to stop, ahhhh, feels so good" kind of yoga. When we finally came down to the mat, she offered hands on adjustments. In reclined Eagle, she anchored my shoulder and gently guided my crossed knees toward the floor (serious Divine release!). We closed the same way we began, seated, noticing the breath, noticing the mind, three collective Oms. This class was FIRE, but conscious fire. After pandemic I was looking for the yoga studio. I tried several ones but they were kind of too modern for me. One day I saw a banner with SHIVA YOGA invitation and I tried it out. From the first class I got unlimited monthly membership. Shiva Yoga Studio surround you with kindness , love and acceptance without any condemnation. Classes has a convenient schedule and start from 6:15am till 7:30pm, 7 days a week, from gentle classes to power ones , which ever you choose. So many activities and workshops at the studio and outside the studio . All teachers are so wonderful, knowledgeable and unique in their own ways with their own wisdom. Had to try it based on their promotion! My wife and I are trying to start our new year's resolution a bit early and Shiva did not disappoint! From customer service to maintenance to vibes, this place had everything feeling absolutely right. And truth be told, I dread yoga at times!!! But this was not your ordinary class. Yes there were moments of tension and discomfort for my (aging) body, but I feel absolutely amazing since! I've been meaning to review Shiva Yoga for a while. I don't write many reviews, yet the quality and integrity of the studio made me want to. Garth, the owner, honors the traditions, the lineages of yoga that he has studied. So it is different from say, Core Power, in that it isn't corporatized yoga but a place dedicated to traditional yoga practice and creating a place of community (the teachers, monthly pot-lucks, events like sound-baths, etc.) There is something and someone for everyone. Classes range from breathe-work meditation, gentle and more yin yoga all the way to power yoga. As an Organization Development and Leadership coach, trainer, consultant, I admire how Garth selects his yoga teachers. They are an incredibly diverse group of teachers with one thing in common: their commitment to the teaching and practice of yoga. I like many of them, for different things and reasons. Went to a wonderful class on Sunday morning that was an hour and a half long. I've never done yoga for more than an hour. It was challenging and yet very invigorating. It was a great way to get my day started. The teacher was very skilled and she worked with each of us according to our ability. Thank you Yogi Sabrina. I'd also like to say that it was wonderful to find a place that has classes without the infrared heat. (They do also have heated classes.) So happy that I found Shiva Yoga. read more

Attending a Sound Healing class and one of the best soundbaths I love to follow was a great start to Nov'23! When I arrived at Shiva Yoga for the class, the owner Garth of Shiva Yoga warmly greeted and welcomed me to his studio, I really felt like I was welcomed into his home. The studio is beautiful, Garth shows a lot of love to every detail--the pictures of classes and sessions on the walls added to the feeling of home. Checking in was super easy along with getting setup and using the Wellness Living website. David and Shelley Romero led the Sound Healing class, it's really awesome to see them share their love and passion for what they do along with their experience and education in sound healing. They covered a lot of ground in 6 hours, providing the information in an easy to follow way. David and Shelly really made us feel at ease to express ourselves during the practical sessions of the class. I came away from the class with many tools for adding to my personal healing practice on top of having the basic information needed to start building a sound healing practice. I'm looking forward to the next class. On the first night of the class David and Shelly held a sound healing session, I'm always impressed with the way they gently bring us into the meditiation. The main room of the studio was great acoustically, I felt completely enveloped by the sounds and music during the healing session. The session brought me a much needed break in my medical condition, giving me relief that lasted for a few hours after the soundbath. The healing session also gave me the reset needed for tackling all the stressful things life throws at me. David and Shelly really give a great session, having attended quite a few soundbaths around town I say they're best in LA. Great yoga studio. New and clean. Friendly staff. Excellent yoga instructors. They have a huge line up of all the types of yoga that you would want: vinyasa, flow, power, deep (stretch), rest (nidra). Parking is across the street in an open lot next/behind Just for Dogs Food on Fairfax but on the other side of the divider. Look for the "Shiva Yoga Student Parking" signs in the lot. The spaces face Fairfax. The front desk of the studio is up some stairs on the second floor and the yoga studio is on the third floor. It is a huge room and very nice. Has bolsters, cork blocks, mats, etc. Little cubbies outside of the yoga room for shoes and an area inside the yoga room for your valuables. They have thought of everything. Affordable prices. You can get a day pass for $26, a 10-visit set, or a monthly membership. They really care about what they are teaching unlike some big yoga chains. They are also very eco-friendly on the premises. This yoga studio has become an important part of my weekly routine. The practice is both spiritually and physically challenging, and the instructors are patient and kind in feedback and guidance to help you improve. I've been at the studio for four weeks now, and I'm growing more fond of the ritual of attending. Came here for my first in person yoga lesson in two years, and it was a lovely experience! The owner is friendly and welcoming - you can tell they really want to make a community feel to this studio, which as an introvert, I appreciate! They hold a variety of events as well. There are cork blocks, bolsters and straps. The free tea sampling after class was a nice treat. We took a flow class which was 90 minutes with a fair amount of meditation/cool down included. There wasn't any music which might be because classes are live streamed. I think this studio is a bit more spirituality oriented than others I've been to in LA. I still got a good work out, but it's something to keep in mind for people just using yoga for exercise or general mindfulness. Overall, it was worth the visit and I'd be down to try out some of their other classes! read more

I tried Shiva when I felt that my yoga practice wasn't advancing at my previous yoga studio and it definitely was the right choice. The instructors are knowledgeable and amazing at meeting students where they are and know how to push and challenge to help the practitioner progress in their practice. They're not only focused on the asanas but they include all the other aspects of yoga that most studios in the area tend to ignore such as meditation and yoga philosophy. The studio also fosters a sense of community by adding community-building program in its schedule such as monthly potlucks, kirtans and workshops. I joined the studio back in January and have been SO happy with that decision. The yoga teachers are friendly, knowledgable, and offer variations to poses for all levels. I hadn't practiced in quite some time, and I can't believe what my body is capable of doing thanks to everyone at the studio! I've also taken advantage of the massage option as I work through a shoulder injury. PJ found all of the knots hiding in my shoulders and upper back and was able to work them out gentle without leaving me in bruises like some masseuses I've been to at other locations. This doesn't just feel like going to a gym, I feel like I'm actually welcomed into this community. No matter how lazy, tired, or inactive I feel before class, I'm always able to push myself to follow through because the energy in the room is wonderful and I love how I feel during/after the practice. read more

I have been attending classes at Shiva Yoga for a little over a month and have been having a great experience at this studio so far. The teachers have all been exceptionally consistent and dedicated and so have the students, which lends to a more serious and meaningful experience. There is a great balance here between meditation/spiritual intent and a solid workout as well. The rooms are airy with high ceilings and never feel cramped. I have been doing yoga for over 20 years and find this to be a great place to practice in a calm and nurturing environment. The facility is very modern and clean. The staff was super friendly and helpful. I booked my first cupping session with Lydia and it was great. The combo of massage to pinpoint the knots to apply the cups was very effective. My back felt much better after the session and Lydia was great walking me though it and explaining things to me and making sure I was comfortable the entire time. Before the pandemic, I hopped around in various workout classes. I did yoga, Pilates, and barre and while I always loved working out, it felt like I got up and did it just to say I did and to feel like I was making an attempt at being healthy. Then covid came and I spent most of my time inside my apartment, missing community, missing the feeling of being alive. Shiva Yoga is the first place I've come inside and done a workout since 2020 and it's a really lovely place. Everyone is so kind and positive, there's nothing but encouragement and a lack of ego. I'll admit, yoga was never my favorite workout. I hated the stillness. I hated being stuck with my never ending thoughts while I asked myself why I woke up to do something that doesn't necessarily "feel good." The vibe here is not just workout and I'm actually excited to take even just the shiva breath classes and work on filtering my thoughts instead of just running from them. Everyone greets each other, there's a bunch of community events, the studio is really clean and full of light. If you are finally ready to accept stillness in your life and have a nice community, I'd definitely recommend coming! Even though there are wildly varying skill levels throughout the studio, no one ever makes you feel bad for being unable to do something. It's just about being consistent and showing up for yourself. The classes are always live streamed if you'd prefer to workout at home, but the physical in person classes are always just a handful of people. It never feels crowded or overwhelming. read more

Tried out Shiva Yoga earlier this month for a class and liked it so much my fiancee and I decided to join! Have stayed consistent in classes each week since. Garth and the other teachers are very instructive and helpful, down-to- earth people with a lot of philosophical knowledge of the craft. I decided to try something new this week - and had never really done yoga before. Everyone has been very welcoming, helpful and supportive from top to bottom. Garth took my call and explained all of the class options to me with great patience. Joanna taught my first class (Vinyasa 2) and she got me set up with a loaner mat and all of the props I would need; she was so patient and helpful as I learned throughout the class, taking extra time to explain each pose. My second class was with Sam (Vinyasa 1) and she was a phenomenal teacher, helping me to find good form, deepen my stretches and breathe consistently. My friend and I went to Kirtan w/ Govinda Das last night. It was the first time for me in this studio. It's clean, friendly and the space is quite nice. People seem friendly and the staff welcoming. Unfortunately the atmosphere in the room for Kirtan was suboptimal. It was cold, the lights were bright and what was missing was a proper set-up. It felt almost clinical. We were wondering why they did not dim the lights or lit on candles. The door was wide open all the time. With that said we left early. I can't say anything about the yoga classes there, but I wouldn't go there again for Kirtan. read more
