We do I d this old kite from the town I am from whee my mom worked. What a surprise

Urban Mining recently moved to Midtown. We love they are so close. What a great place to find a something unique that you weren't looking for. Your treasure could be just around the corner. For instance we went on Saturday to check out the new location. While shopping, we turned the corner and there was kites, not ordinary kites, but kites from Hi Flyer a company from Decatur, IL where I am from and when my mom worked before I was born. They are the old fashioned paper kites that our Grandparents used to fly. Anyway a true treasure for us. You never know what you might find and you never know what treasure you will find. I love this place, lots of unique pieces you will not find anywhere else, one of a kind gems. Trust me, check out Urban Mining and go on a treasure hunt.

I am in love!!!! Urban Mining is now my favorite store in the entire universe. Located in Westport in the lower level of the Meyer Building (the entrance is in the back), Urban Mining is 3000 square feet of pure amazingness! It's a thrift store, antique shop and arts and crafts fair all rolled into one. There is so much stuff packed into every inch, it took us two hours to get through the store (check out my photos for an example!). Some favorite features: - Vimsey!! Vimsey is "whimsey plus vintage" which is junk art--it features cut-outs, game pieces, vintage images, jewels, flowers, etc. Classes are offered as well, see their website for details. - My Paper Garden by Lisa Presley, which is old maps and postcards remade into wallets, stationery and purses. A fun way to recycle! - TONS of vintage handbags and jewelry (a major weakness of mine) The only bad thing about this store--they're only open three days a month; the first weekend only. So mark your calendars!!! I promise you will love it. :)

    Cool!

My parents live in Kansas City and every time I come home, I hope it's a first weekend so we can go.

This gem of a store has been so clutch over the years for picking up gifts. Some of the people in my life are, um, a little hard to shop for, but when I come in here, I always come away with something great. It's all so well-curated; some gifts are classy, some funny, and many are versatile. It beats the socks off of going into a big box store in a million ways. Being in a charming stretch of a walkable area adds to its appeal, and the staff is always friendly. They also have Pickwick candles which are some of the best in town. These soy candles will last multiple seasons and almost all of them smell amazing. Cheers to this shop, they're doing it right and have saved my bacon every December since they've opened.

I bought a hilarious (and slightly inappropriate) oven mit and cocktail napkins for my aunt as a hostess gift. They have loads of candles, home decor, games, toys, jewelry, men's stuff, bath and body products, etc. If you're looking to check some folks off of your holiday list, stop in to The General Store, you're sure to find what you need! something for everyone! And support local, am I right?
