I noticed this store while driving in LA after having a bite to eat up the street and I had to stop here because I had seen Yolk featured in Lucky magazine. The store was just as I had imagined. There are so many cool and unique items for your home. I love the candles and stationary. We ended up buying a wooden toy for my son. They have an awesome collection of toys for the little ones. They even have really cute unique baby clothes. I recommend this store for anyone who is trying to find a special gift, or if you want to add some flavor to your home. I absolutely love and adore this little store nestled along Silver Lake Blvd. I remember when I first discovered this shop, I walked around, marveling at all the unique, design-saavy pieces. I can always rely on this store to find the perfect gift for any occasion. I have noticed a few changes under the new ownership. It's a little more cluttered with items that I might find at some of the shops on 3rd Street (soaps, candles, etc), but I still love it nonetheless. The owner is super nice and friendly and they offer a variety of special items, ranging from cute baby clothes to stylish costume jewelry to modern dinnerware. They have a great selection of fun useful items. There selection of children and family tableware is great. I love the child's chopsticks, floppy utensils and family plates. They also have more grown-up and stylish items, such as a selection of sleek and hip dinnerware. They carry jewelry by local designers. The back room is a child's delight and a great place to go go for children's gifts. Definitely a place I am going to stop by the next time I need a gift. read more

Great shop for gifts or that not so necessary gift to yourself! I was particularly fond of the ink blot tea set, but at $230 I couldn't justify it right now. There are more reasonably priced items though, and a lot of merch, so it's likely to have something to please everyone with a little sass and a lotta style. I agree with Sarah F. who noted the excessive and unnecessary line of candles that take up space that could be better suited to open up the floor plan.Loved the sacred heart wrapping paper, lace-like wall mirrors, and sake cups with little animals on them. Yolk is a groovy little object design shop in Silver Lake. Groovy house-wares and childrens stuff. This weekend they are celebrating their second (or third) aniversary on the block. To celebrate they're having a party that includes a showing of some brand new BLOK pieces created by my friend Rebekah Potter. Her stuff is very groovy and if you don't see something you like, you can easily comission her to do personalized bloks. My goal was to walk to the local businesses to buy a few remaining gifts for my closest friends. At Yolk I discovered some sleek kitchen items including a karaffe and handsome Italian drinking glasses. Among other surprisingly practical gifts were beautiful handcrafted children's toys, vintage textiles, designer throws and rugs. Love it! I made the trip from SM to the Eastside just to visit. They carry Envirosax, a line of great-looking shopping bags that are only $8! Now there's no reason to carry those plain old canvas ones when you can match these to your outfit. Seriously, super cute. read more

This shop has some cool eclectic stuff. I got a few xmas gifts here for a reasonable price. It's mostly houseware, books, jewelry, and baby stuff. Some things are a bit outrageously priced, but its the neighborhood and because its made from a one-armed single tribesman from Borneo. Great little shop filled with many treasures. Very unique selection of gifts and home goods. The kids section is also stocked with many things I've never seen anywhere else. Only downside is that the unique items come with unique price tags. Some items are reasonably priced while others are probably a little too high. I get it though. Small shop in a trendy area. I live in the neighborhood and think of Yolk for kids, moms, fun, and self presents. I like to browse their well-curated selection and see what's new, especially with kids' toys and offerings. I am disappointed as I have shopped and spent money here a few times and not had positive experiences with those working. Before, I wasn't acknowledged but was at least interacted with in checking out. This last time, I wasn't greeted by any of the 3 people working when I was shopping, was not offered any help or later acknowledged as I shopped for 10 minutes, and had an awkward experience at the register that had me wondering if I was done and dismissed? I have worked in and managed retail, so I understand checking in product, getting orders and plans done when you are in store, being busy, etc. Understanding all that, I went about my shopping and was kind to the workers when I had to step over one working in the middle of product space and then pay for items I chose, and I still wasn't met with acknowledgement much less kindness. I found this so odd. Even if you are busy working something else out, a smile or engagement or at least presence with me as I am paying you money are not unreasonable. I'm conflicted about shopping here as I enjoy the selection and prefer to shop local and support small business. I do not have a desire to spend money here after my experiences in store. read more

I was with two of my friends walking around the neighborhood and decided to go in and check this place out. We adored a lot of the cute gift ideas and crafty books so much I bought a book. It's has bright pops of color but it has a home feel to it when you walk in. By the register in the back there's an extended area for kids. Toys, books, and clothes I believe. Can't remember because I wasn't so focused on the kid section. Anywho the ladies in there didn't greet or asked how I was doing. But I bought the book anyway. I don't know they seemed busy in weird way but there was 2 other people in the store and a kid so I was a bit confused. One of my most favorite gift shops in town! Yolk has been a Silver Lake gift staple for years and I hope it continues to thrive! It's got a great variety (note: not overwhelming selection) of all types of items for the home, desk, jewelry box, and for the kiddos. Service is friendly and not pushy and thank goodness they honor KCRW discounts! I relish every visit I make which are few and far between since their unique items are slightly pricey. I am a generous gift-giver, so I do love a good giftie-type shop. I have stopped in here many times, especially around the holidays, and they always have suuuuper cute stuff. We went in today to look for a baby gift, and I felt like I was being followed around the (very small) store by one particular employee. I have not had that feeling since I was a teenager, and needless to say, it made my shopping experience pretty uncomfortable. My partner noticed it as well, so I don't feel like I was overreacting. I am a grown-ass woman and have money to spend! Anyway, we left and ended up in a cute shop down the street, where we were treated very well and bought a bunch of baby gift items. This place is so cute! They have a ton of locally made items. I really liked the bags, mugs, glasses, etc that had local neighborhood names on them. A lot of the items were pricey, but it's fun to browse. It can also give you an idea of some items to purchase when looking for some house decor. read more

Okay, so I don't know how this store used to be (see other reviews), but I sure do love how it is today. I went there just before the holidays to fetch a gift for my wonderful more-than-a-crush, and I was happy to find that they still had one left of the gift that he'd been eyeing but hadn't yet bought for himself. When I brought it to the counter to set down while I continued to shop, they cheerfully offered to wrap it for me while I waited, and were extremely gracious and fun to chat with. I scoured the rest of the store for other gifts, found a few great cards and some adorable wine gift bags, and admired many of the other fun and rather unusual items they featured. I know I'll be back again for more shopping excursions, or just to stop in and say hello after brunch at the Back Door Bakery down the street. read more

i love yolk because one day i was running late for a friend's one-year-old kid's birthday party out in the valley. i told the staff about my predicament--not having a gift, and two generally hating kids (they could only help with the former)--and they picked out this cool little wood horsey toy that was very reasonably priced. my friend's kid got a bunch of overpriced plastic crap from toys-r-us from all the other fools at the party, and all that crap is broken and discarded now; but my friend's kid--one year later--still carries around the REAL toy i bought her at yolk. that little brat loves her uncle joseph thanks to yolk! buy toys at yolk. the chinese don't need anymore plastic toy orders. they'll be okay if they only work 15 hours a day instead of 18, and the stockholders at hasbro too. really, they'll be okay. parking at yolk? what parking? you don't have a driver? welcome to silverlake. prices? i can only speak to what i purchased, which was very reasonable. staff? wonderful. they don't hate kids. very cute little store that you can feel good about buying from. buy at yolk. read more

Venturing out to Monkeyhouse toy store last week, I stumbled upon Yolk and at first sight, my eyes were buggin out of my head with the feeling that I was 5 years old in a toy store. This place IS INTERIOR HEAVEN! Marrimekko everything everywhere!!! Everything was mostly from Finland, Sweden, & Italy. For such a small store, it is chocked full of housewares for bath, bedroom, kitchen, and even baby clothes and toys. I really had to pay attention to the prices as I was rabbing everything I laid my eyes on. It's definately not cheap, so I sadly had to pick the pieces I loved the most and walk away. *tear* But I am so happy to know that when I do have some extra cash, this is where I'm going to blow it! read more

Wow is all I can say. We happened upon this spot after our Lamill coffee and trip over to Monkeyhouse. An amazing combination of household items and children's toy and clothing, we were floored by the uniqueness and variety that we found. My nephew and niece's birthdays were coming up and I'm pretty sure that I'll be the favorite uncle after bringing some stuff from this location. cute but dangerous! the perfect "mom and me" shop for hip moms. srsly. even though I have no kids, and live nowhere near southern cal, if I did, we'd (my fake child and I) be coming here.. like daily. as it was, I happened to be in LA for work and my bestie recommended stopping by. unfortunately my wallet didn't second the suggestion as about 10 minutes after walking in, I was walking out about $150 poorer. still, no regrets on my purchases. in fact, very pleased. the owner's got quite the eye for all things unique and lovely. picked up a gold bracelet, ring, and an amazing tobacco, leather, and wood scented candle for our apartment. pretty sweet souvenirs if you ask me :) p.s. it's directly next door to LAMILL (some of the best coffee I've EVER had). gotta give props on a 2-4-1. read more

For several years, I lived just down the block from Yolk. I never bought much, but my sister loved going in everytime she came to visit. I guess it's kind of a "girlie" store, but I like some of the stuff too. Lots of odd things for your house. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area. read more
