My well-bred Siberian Husky, Newt, and I have shown many times throughout the years at the Yolo County Fairgrounds. We have always had a positive experience at the fairgrounds. Parking is $10 per day of a dog show weekend. Some dog show weekends are 3 days and some are 4. The grass is always nicely groomed and the main exhibit hall is spacious. It does get hot in the summer of course, but what can you do. The clubs bring in massive fans but with a bunch of dogs and people, it still gets stuffy. Depending on the dog show, there can be only a few rings spread throughout the grounds (both indoors and out) or many. There are ample areas to potty and groom my dog, and I've never seen parking fill up completely. We usually park on the side lot to avoid parking next to others, plus it's quieter there as well. I've also run Newt in FastCAT here, since there is plenty of space for that event. Additionally, I've seen AKC Fetch trials hosted, although I have yet to participate in one. Even though the dog shows boast a good number of entries, the layout of the fairgrounds means I can still find a quiet spot to myself to decompress and let Newt relax as well. This place is also extra special to me since Newt earned his AKC Grand Championship here back in September! Many clubs are now booking the Yolo County Fairgrounds these days compared to other fairgrounds and honestly, I'm pretty happy about it. It's one of the better fairgrounds we have here in NorCal for dog shows and I will definitely continue to attend shows at the Yolo County Fairgrounds as we very casually play towards Newt's Grand Championship Bronze title. read more

Ummm... highly disappointed. We came specifically for the 805 Night Market after seeing the advertisements online, and unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. Based on the marketing, I was expecting something much larger--more along the lines of FoodieLand--with a wide variety of vendors, entertainment, and food options. Instead, there were only around 20 vendors, and several of them were selling nearly identical items. The food we tried was underwhelming, especially considering the prices. The carnival-style games were also expensive for what they offered. The live band had plenty of energy, but the performance was noticeably off-key, which took away from the atmosphere. To make things even more awkward, there were two baby showers happening at the venue at the same time, making the event feel crowded in all the wrong ways rather than like a dedicated night market. Customer service from the staff also left a lot to be desired--they weren't particularly welcoming or helpful. I was also hoping to see more creativity from the non-food vendors, but many of the booths felt repetitive and lacked originality. Overall, this event didn't meet my expectations, especially after the way it was advertised. I won't be returning next year and will be sticking with FoodieLand instead. read more

I've been once for the Yolo County Fair, but most recently as an participating exhibitor for the Farm Connection Day put on by Yolo County 4-H and Yolo County Farm Bureau. Every spring students in grades K-6 are invited to spend the day at the Yolo County Fairgrounds where they learn about Yolo County's agriculture. This year's event attracted approximately 1,500 students! The event had several educational displays, presentations and hands-on activities on the topics like STEM, agriculture, natural resources, science, engineering, livestock and arts and crafts. Livestock areas had demonstrations on showmanship and animal handling (goats, sheep) and the Small Animal Barn had demonstrations (rabbits, chickens) and display boards, plus outdoor games, interactive gameshows, etc. I volunteered with my company Nuseed to work a booth at the Main Expo building from 9:00AM-1:00PM and it was bustling! Kids got to learn about what we do, and get some free swag. During breaks, I got to visit some of the other booths such as HM Clause, UCANR, UCD Bohart Museum, Mariani, Tauzer Bees, Air Quality Management, etc. and outside they had a big tractor on display, horseback sheriffs, a fire truck, and a dairy cow. There were also food vendors with soft serve ice cream, food trucks, etc. to feed the bus loads of kids and grownups. Arriving early, their entrance on East Gum had the gates closed, but the East Gibson entrance was open. They did have some volunteers directing traffic. Vendors had to bring their own lunch but they did provide bottled water and restrooms were okay. read more

No entrance fee. $5 parking across the street in the shopping mall. We came here last Saturday, it was so hot! The hottest day to be going to the fair! We come here occasionally when the fair comes into town. We always come for their tacos, delicious fried tacos stuffed with ground meat, topped with tomatoes and lettuce. They are freaking delicious! Other than that, they have your typical fairground foods, mostly fried goodies. We came during the afternoon, when the sun was at it's hottest. We had to take cover and try to cool down inside their buildings, that didn't help much due to lack of A/C, but they had giant fans blowing to cool people down from the inside. This is when you go and track down vendors serving cool treats! I got one of those Hawaiian shaved ice, it was delicious! Just perfect for hot days! They hold annual exhibits from your typical vendor booths, to art galleries, and quilt/sewing galleries. It was nice to see all the hard work put into creating such events. Like I said before, we only come for their tacos. Nothing really special about this fair, but I try to come once a year. read more

SO DISAPPOINTING 2022! Not open weekday afternoons. No early access to the tacos. Cannot bring in your own sodas (only water in plastic bottles). Long time food vendors banished (where are the wonderful cinnamon rolls?). No paper tickets to hand out to the kids so they can run around and choose their rides. Great place to hold major events and shows trade auto. This is what got me to show interest

Went to the *fair* to get something to eat after standing in line for over 1/2 hour this place has no chiken yet they have it advertised all over the place.I ordered a italian sausage and for $15 dollars what i.got was a dry ass bun with what it looks to me like a regular hot dog with some overcooked green peppers and 3 pieces of onions,, not even close to what they have in the pictures, I asked the guy whats up with that he says they ran out of onions, at 9 pm? Didnt want to.make a scene and ask for my money back but i regret it,, I should of asked for my 15 bucks back,the hot dog was harder than the bun,,worst 15 dollars i have ever spend in my life. obviously never spending a cent on this place again. Be aware and ask first if they have what they advertising and dont spect much from the food either. read more

This review is for the fairgrounds themselves instead of the Yolo County Fair. The fair itself is really good and should have a separate listing, but the fairgrounds are used for many other events. The fairgrounds are located in the southeast portion of Woodland along East and Gum streets near the County Fair Mall, of course. Access is an issue for the fairgrounds. It is not near a major road or freeway in Woodland requiring navigation through the surrounding residential neighborhoods, although the city does have decent signage along the route. There is parking on site which may require a fee, although many people appear to park at the mall for free. The layout of the fairgrounds is somewhat haphazard with random buildings and exhibit halls all over the place. Signage is limited with no clear direction to where various exhibits and facilities are located. This does add a little to the charm of the place leading to wandering and exploring, but it is hard to determine where you should and should not walk. Staff were pretty good with helpful parking attendants and volunteers. I appreciate the hard work and sponsorships required to keep the place operating at a low cost to the community, but I also feel that Yolo County deserves a better place to represent the community. A little extra cash could really make this a destination for the region. Until then, the Yolo County Fairgrounds are a decent place for a great county fair. read more

Just needed an overnight spot. It's about 4 miles off the interstate but that's its only flaw. Nice huge gravel sites, reasonably priced. Ran into the sheriff there who said it is a very safe location for Davis. Self check in, first come first served. Of course there is the usual long term ears there but they are pipeline workers and the sheriff monitors frequently. read more

I'm sorry honey, I dragged you to the county fair for lunch and viewing the animals when you wanted to go to Costco for a slice of pizza. Food choices during the county fair were expensive and limited. We paid almost $20 for two simple sandwiches, his a pulled pork which was mainly sauce and me a chicken. Mine had a lot of chicken in it, almost three boneless thighs, grilled, not smoked. Both were served on a french roll and were very difficult to eat. It was hot and we finally found a drinking faucet as we were leaving. It's attached to the locked bathrooms near the first aid station. There were other bathrooms available throughout the fairgrounds but if there were other drinking faucets, we didn't see them. We did enjoy viewing the animals and did see a calf just born an hour or so earlier. The poor chickens were suffering from the heat. My special talent manifested itself, I managed to step right in the middle of a big fresh pile of cow poop. I enjoy fairs and would go back again another year, provided it's cooler and I remember to bring along water and eat lunch beforehand (maybe that $1.99 slice of pizza from Costco). read more

This review is on the fairgrounds facility not a specific event. I have came to these fairgrounds for a few different events. I come here at least once a year for the Scottish Games. The parking is okay. they do a good job managing the traffic and parking flow. There are plenty of buildings for shops and such. the livestock area is designed well. They have a good amount of restrooms and lots of shade around. Works well for the events I have been to here. read more

This is a small OK park, graveled throughout. There are barking dogs that bark ALL day-and-night in the trailer park next to it. The fairgrounds is being used as the dirt, sand and rock pile for construction on streets around the area constant traffic and constant noise from the equipment. read more

This is my third fair of 2014, and I must say it was one of my favorites. The bands they had were epic. Alincia Band was on the 2nd stage and The Brody's on the main stage. There is nothing more fun like eating an Oreo stuffed funnel cake, and listening to your favorite bands. The reason I gave it 4 stars was, because the stage in my opinion was too close to the Destruction derby. We came here for the County Fair and were pretty pleasantly surprised! We went to a lot of fairs this year, and this was by far the smallest, but it also was the smallest county so I wasn't surprised by that. The grounds were pretty well kept, there are pretty decent facilities on site, and there is no entrance fee. Parking was $5 at the fairgrounds, or you could pick one of the many other parking locations directly around the fair that also charge $5. Given the size of the fair, and the size of the county, we didn't stay for that long, but the time we did spend was a really nice time. I'm glad we didn't have to pay an entrance fee, but given that there isn't one, it definitely was worth going to! read more

Nostalgic. For a little girl growing up in the dusty township realm of farming professionals as well as craftsmen and folks at local Ag club, the Yolo County Fairgrounds has served as a quick trip back in time as I close my eyes to reflect on the many experiences I've had here. My most vivid, is that of the July 4th fireworks, which apparently have no longer been held here due to hazards and safety. However, back in the day, I recall days of when open fields were more common and our family had a green long Oldsmobile back from the 80's, and my sister and I would sit on top of the hood of this steel drum and lay back on the windshield. The fireworks were so colorful and amazing, I do remember "ooohing" and "aaaahing" throughout the entire fiery spectacular above us. The fair, which passed through every summer, brought most of the town out to take a few days/night off from the toils of the tomato acres and to the fairgrounds to partake in sampling some cold homemade lemonade, cotton candy and corndogs still hot from the fryers. I'd munch on these delights and meander through the Ag stalls, as goats would sporadically attempt to make a swipe at my colorful frothy confection on a stick. Nostalgia. I come here yearly for the Scottish Games and always thoroughly enjoy myself. The fairgrounds are always well maintained, as our the restrooms. Parking isn't expensive, but they've started charging if you park in the parking lot behind the fairgrounds. They've caught on to our cheap antics! $5 is great for parking though, so we didn't argue. The fairgrounds are easy to find and located near a lot of things in Woodland: shopping, gas, etc. There's a back gate that we always utilize since it tends to be easier to get into (you don't have to park in dirt and you don't have to worry about crowds). I am a fan and love going to the fair. The staff office is excellent and run a great fair! However - the atmosphere is changing with the quality of people that attend which changes the dynamic from when I was kid. I go for food now a few times and leave when before I use to hang out almost all five days everyday. The carnival area at night seems a bit unnerving. read more

Huh. I have a friend that just moved to Woodland. She has a lovely home with hubby and two dogs. Never had any problems with anyone and it's a seemingly safe neighborhood. We walked the two blocks to the fair on Saturday night because we were in the market for delicious fair food. (No really, we go on food adventures.. I'm not kidding.) We left the place after several overpriced plates and sticks of delicious food were consumed. A funnel cake, pulled pork sandwich, nachos with jalapenos, a pickle, a sno-cone, corn-on-the-cobb... We were happy. The only problem with this place is the uh; how do I put it nicely. Less than stellar crowd? My friend definitely saw a drug deal go down. There was stereotyping going on by the fair employees, they were sure my very petite friend was 10 years old, and should come play a game because of a certain prize they had that asian girls go nuts over... ..and then there was the last straw. I couldn't figure out why a police officer was waving his Mag-lite as he walked in front of us. It was because two officers behind him were escorting a shirtless male out of the fair. He ended up throwing a fit and three officers had to pin him down. There is no entrance fee to the Yolo County Fair. In this case, you get what you pay for. read more

This review is for the RV side. We went here to dump the black/grey tank and fill up on water. It's a no frills type of place. There's a self service kiosk to pay the $15 to dump (other envelop for overnight) and then you just go and find your place. It's pretty much gravel/rocks so it gets a bit dusty when others drive by. One side has some shade. We will definitely be back as it's a great RV dump site! read more

The relative merits of the demolition derby, or the renaissance fair, or some cultural event featuring awkward children dancing to really bad music... The food poisoning endured after eagerly scarfing a half-cooked pulled pork sandwich while attending a long-forgotten county fair... The threatening look some out-of-towner might have received from a hostile adolescent preening for his friends... All of these issues are immaterial. As someone who has lived in this community for most of my life, and has roots in this area going back the better part of a century, I can't, in good conscience, not give this place five stars. Not because I attend the country fair every year, because I don't. Not because the buildings are new and frequently painted, because they're not And not because they offer a great corn dog every year during the fair, which they absolutely do! No, I'll give the fairgrounds five stars, for no other reason, than it's unquestioned status as part of the collective heritage of this community...and heritage is important. read more

Worst RV park EVER! A gravel lot, with zero amenities for $35/night? It felt like people lived there, and there were also people coming and going ALL NIGHT! The train is CLOSE and in the 11pm hour, was blowing it's horn for a solid ten minutes. Felt jaded by the horrible experience. Was going to stay two nights, drove home instead. read more

Fairgrounds were easy to find. Parking reasonable at $5. Attendants were pleasant in telling you were you needed to go to park. Admission to the Scottish games however, was really expensive. $15 admission and that doesn't even get you a program of the festivals schedule. plenty of room to walk around though, and the vendors were real nice. The restroom buildings were in good shape as well. I'd be interested bringing the family here again to these grounds to see how they handle different events read more

First time attending this event and boy was it hot. It's your typical fair with carnival games, deep friend delights, and rides. From what I hear this event is quite an historic one for Woodland. It's definitely a great event to bring your family too. read more

Who doesn't love the fair. It's free to get in, you just have to pay to park. They have the usual rides, food, and games. However what I particularly like is the demolition derby, huge art show, and the petting zoo. Just make sure you bring some water, it gets hot. read more

This is Woodland and there isn't really much action here. The fair is where you can go and always see old friends, family, co-worker's, etc. This is the biggest social event in Woodland. Alot of good unhealthy food. It's a good thing the fair is only once a year so you can't blame your weight problem on the fair food. It's also a good place to see what's going on around our town. I go every year and I always get a personalized key chain or something like that to remember each year. Before you could park at the Mall for free but I guess they wised up and now charge $5. Still not bad. As for the fair itself there is no charge. read more

I've always loved small homey fairs. It reminds me of my childhood and the fairgrounds in Bakersfield. True, these are a lot smaller, but I've really taken a liking to these. I've come here the past 10 years in a row for the crab feed in Feb and fair. Great space to have, great parking...what's not to love? read more

I was here for a wedding one evening and it was a very nice venue. Conformable and fun. One day I will come back and visit for the fair.

Went to the fair here last weekend and had a good time. We had more fun on $45 than the $150 we spent at the State Fair! Parking was plentiful and everyone here very nice. The dust kind of gets to you a bit, but all in all I would come back here. read more

The county fair is disgusting. The people are gross and the fair has nothing special to offer. The scottish games are good, but Ill never go back to the fair. The parking lot isnt very well lit and the fairgrounds arent either, dangerous. read more
