Suntex Marina in Gloucester is a great place to keep a boat. The marina is well-maintained, the staff is friendly, and the overall experience has been outstanding. I especially want to recognize Preston, the Dock Master. He is always out on the docks working hard and making sure everything is taken care of. It's rare to see someone so hands-on and dedicated. Whether he's helping boat owners, checking on the docks, or keeping operations running smoothly, he's always visible and willing to lend a hand. After many years at YRYH, we made the decision to pick up anchor and move elsewhere. What used to be a marina with a restaurant has become a restaurant with a marina attached. Marina management has made it clear to slipholders who has sway here. The last straw for us is no more DIY in the boatyard. From what I hear, 35 other boats at YRYH left as well. If you are a transient coming for a weekend, you will be fine. But if you are looking for a longer term set up, you may want to consider sailing to another destination. read more

Morgan and Preston, GM & AGM, have made a pretty decent team and there have been some noticable improvements this year. The boatyard is no longer operated by YRYH, it is operated by boaters world and I would steer clear of them as they have built themselves a very poor reputation since taking it over. It's true that the restaurant, YROC, has become a big driver of traffic in the marina and they can be a pain for slip holders but that has been a little better this year as well, if they expand again I'm sure I'll need to change this as it will truly be a restaurant with a marina on property but so far so good. The docks are nice floating docks with plenty of room and well maintained. read more

Fantastic marina, you won't find one as the same caliber in the area! I've been keeping my boat here for almost 5 years now and haven't considered keeping it anywhere else during the Summer and Fall. Lots of recent changes with the yard, dock repairs, and some new policies in effect. I'm not especially pleased with a couple new policies regarding credit card charges but understand this may be a corporate decision from the top down. Love the pool and staff and the special events they host throughout the year. Keep up the good work as I plan to return every year if you'll have me!! read more

Very Nice Marina with lots of Friendly people. They offer some Water Sports Fun Rentals: BOATS, Yes BOATS, Kayaks, and Paddle Boards, etc. Shopping is always fun at their gift Shop, and they offer an excellent Restaurant with two decks on the water. Yacht Haven has a beautiful Swimming Pool, and Outside Grills. You could just live here and never leave. read more

Contacted this company as an alternative for a girls day out. Capt. Bill was amazing!! He went out of his way to accommodate my request for a specific day and time. We started on time, learned a lot about the area, history, and he even let us steer the boat! We also saw a family of dolphins which really topped off the trip. The marina itself is very nice. Good facilities, nice pool, floating docks, well stocked ship's store and a great restaurant. However, you should stay away from the repair yard at all costs. They are rude, slow, over priced and you will be among the lucky and very few if they get your job right. Our "6 week" repair took 4 months. Cost was a good third above what other yards would have charged. Boat was filthy when returned to us. Take your boat elsewhere for repairs. read more

I moved my boat here this year due to the low tax rate that they instituted last year. I have eaten at the restaurant several times and the food is actually very good. The docks are very clean and seem well organized also. My biggest complaint with this place is they refused to bill you on a monthly basis and you have to pay all of your dock fees upfront for the entire year. That is highly disappointing as there is no way I am going to give someone $4000 of my money all upfront when I haven't even used the facilities yet. I will definitely be moving my boat next year as it seems likelike it is very lazy on their part not to take the time to offer a monthly billing option. I have kept my boat in many marinas in Hampton roads and I've never seen one that refuses to bill on a monthly basis. In addition I got a bid for haul out, bottom paint, and waxing and their prices are some of the highest I've seen in the area. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS BOATYARD. IF I COULD GIVE A NEGATIVE 5 STAR RATING I WOULD HAVE. BOAT YARD....ZERO TRUST ZERO ETHICS. I have been around boats and boat yards my entire life. Currently own a 2005 Mainshp 34 Trawler. This is our seventh boat and we dock at York River Yacht Haven since we purchased her in April 2016. Countless boat owners warned us not to use the yard for anything. After using our own contractors for major engine and fiberglass repairs, we decided to give the boat yard a chance with a bottom paint and detailing. We made a huge mistake. 1- Bottom paint was done fairly, of what we can see, but after a month in the water it's showing excessive wear. Also the bottom paint was supposed to be black yet some running gear including trim tabs were painted blue. Total cost for a 34 boat 3500.00 USD. This amount includes 900 for detailing hull sides which work was fair at best. 2-. Charged 2500.00 USD for topside detailing that was never accomplished. GM Jason Gray came to the boat this morning to argue why the work looked so bad. Blamed it on Hurricane Matthew.. that was just a rain storm. He didn't even have the work order in his hand let alone even seeing it. This will be handled by our attorney. Don't be sucked in by their promises of change at this boat yard. Stay away. read more

Good place to keep a boat. I never had one there, but I used to help out on a friend's boat, and the people who worked there were always very helpful. There was (still is?) a Wednesday regata series in the summer time that was a lot of fun too, even though our boat never won a single race. ever. read more

After out first season as motor yacht owners, our Chaparral Signature 270 was in need of some light repairs and winterization. We arranged for this work with the Service Manager at the boat yard at York River Yacht Haven. After receiving the quote, we authorized the work. The standard requirements of winterization were easily performed. We had a scratch on the edge of the starboard bow that needed to be repaired, and with the cruiser out of the water we also noticed a problem with the hinges on the rear hatch, which were not seating properly, and some spider cracks in the gelcoat. After receiving a quote for this additional work, we opted to get those repaired as well. The work was progressing nicely until they encountered a problem matching the gelcoat color- a beautiful chaparral blue- after repairing the cracks. Event after contacting Chaparral for the color, it did not match. They then worked with a Chaparral rep on site, yet still no match. We visited the yard a couple of times during the repair process, and saw their multiple attempts to match the colors. We were told that gelcoat will fade over time (we purchased our boat from a previous owner) and that it was unlikely they could exactly match the color. However, rather than accepting a color that was "close", they continued to work for a color match. Finally, after many failed attempts to match the existing color, they offered a complete repaint of the blue gelcoat on our boat, at no expense to us. It looks beautiful! The work was flawless- better than a brand new boat- and we are excited to have our boat returned to our slip soon, ready for the upcoming season. What should have initially been a 7 - 10 days job, turned into weeks , yet each time we visited the yard the Service Manager and crew were friendly and honest with us regarding the status of the work being done. Despite their frustrations and the added costs to the yard, their goal was for the job to be done properly and our satisfaction with the completed work. We highly recommend them- especially Ron, Bryan, Kimber, and Jason- for any boat work you may need, and will certainly rely on them for our boat needs in the future. read more

Mr. Bacot and his son that run this marina are very unpleasant people to deal with. The restaurant is very slow at service and the quality of food is not what you pay for. Just about everything at this marina is in need of repair. The wooden docks are so bad that they are about to fall in the water. I won't dock there again because my kids got hurt on all the rusty nails hanging out of the rotting boards on the pier. read more
