Doesn't matter if you paint on the concrete; the window still looks out into a gutter.

Low rates for the town on a weekend night (less than $50 including tax). The front desk staff was extremely courteous and even seemed genuinely *enthusiastic* in greeting me when I walked in the door. That made me feel like I couldn't do too badly here. I was wrong. I probably should've just paid that extra $5 for another spot further up the road. What the check-in staff didn't bother to mention is that the single rooms are all lined up in the viewless *basement*. What you see is NOT what you get. This isn't just a two-story motel, it's a two-story motel with a claustrophobia-inducing basement corridor. In the dungeon-like room, there's a window that looks out to... a gutter. Had I been forewarned, I would have had the option to find a safer motel where I could keep an eye on my car full of heavy boxes which I was moving across the country and couldn't very well completely unload for a single night's stay. It really did NOT put me at ease that I couldn't at least have a room adjacent to or overlooking the parking lot. Plus, the steps littered with bug carcasses (little midwestern cockroaches?) wasn't exactly reassuring. The fake Christmas tree and poinsettia in the hallway would have been a quaint touch. Except it was August. At least the room itself had clean, bug-free surfaces, which is more than can be said for my previous stop. The room included a personal fridge, which is always nice. However, I gotta say, the cleaning staff still cut some corners... there was hair (not mine) on the furniture, and an old face towel behind the bed. The room smelled rather heavily of sweaty trucker. Or maybe it's just old. I woke up with a lungful of stench, which was motivation to get the hell out of there and back on the road as quickly as possible! So thanks to the Yorkshire Inn, I made pretty good time on the road that day.

You know immediately upon entering the room whether or not you've chosen a good hotel. Yorkshire Inn's lobby isn't all that inviting, but the rooms are clean, inexpensive, safe, smell nice, and I had no problems with noise or neighbors during my stay. Not top of the line, but good for the price. I'm picky about hotels (I stick to well-known chains, not 'off brand'), so it's saying a lot when I write that I would stay again. I judged the outside unfairly & ended up being a fan of this place! I would recommend staying. My room was on the top floor with two queen beds.

Large bathroom sink and counter with hangers available and luggage rack.

Roach motel. Awful, dirty toilet, empty bottles left in room behind night table, shower controls…read morereversed, worn out sheets. Roaches in breakfast area. Very unprofessional, uncaring staff. Avoid if you can.

My wife and I were in transit to the Grand Tetons in Western Wyoming on July 15.  We'd traveled 15…read more1/2 hours and were understandably tired when we arrived at New Victorian Inn & Suites in York, Ne. We'd previously stayed here 4  years earlier and that experience was positively outstanding.  Not so this time! The morning after our arrival several things were unfortunate found: 1.  My wife had dropped her cell phone charging cord between the nightstand and head of the bed.  As she reached to retrieve it, she spotted some type of animal feces! Upon inspection it was noticed this feces was dusty, indicating the room had not been properly cleaned** in some time 2. Prior to her discovery I noticed that the woodwork of the TV stand was extremely worn and aged. 3. My wife advised me that, when she had taken a shower, she'd found hair and soapscum in the bathtub, again bolstering our belief the room hadn't been cleaned properly. 4. We found an electrical plate/receptacle next to the alcove for hanging clothes was burned/discolored indicating an electrical short behind the plate. We went to the front desk to complain.  The clerk there at the time was not the same clerk who'd checked us in the prious evening.  The previous evening's clerk was on site we later found. The morning clerk assured us he would take our findings/complaint to the owner and that he would contact us.  As of today, Sunday, July 23rd, we have heard nothing!!  In fact, we took our complaint/concerns to the York county health department.  They attempted to contact the owner but he refused to talk to her without her providing the room number (105).  ** I would point out the Health Dept. had the date we'd stayed and the owner had the room number! We still have not heard anything. Given the refusal of the owner to address the issues, the health concerns of failure to properly maintain the room, and advertising a modern, up-to-date facility (old, very worn furnishings), I would highly recommend that travelers avoid the establishment at all costs!!
