We sent a customers 4runner engine 3.0 in to be rebuilt, and after 2 months we got it back and installed it. We noticed an oil leak on the passenger side that we made them aware of, and they said "let us know what you find". After adding dye and re inspecting the leak we found it coming from the very rear corner of the head gasket passenger side. We let them know with pictures what we found, and with some back and forth it was decided we just needed to remove the head to inspect the cause. They acted like they were willing to help and wanted to be kept in the loop. So we proceeded to remove the head, we straight edged it to find there was a low spot in the head. I showed them the picture of the daylight under the straight edge, as well as the the head gasket clean spot where it didn't crush when torqued. They said they would have to check in with their machine shop and get back to us. Guess what Nick said!? They said the machine shop "has no idea what they are even looking at in the photos and it doesn't make any sense" and that it was not their fault. Lololololo, for someone who is in the business of rebuilding ONE line of engines I will get my proverbial crayons out and draw the picture for you so you can understand. The part of the head gasket that was not crushed in the torque procedure surrounds the oil drain back. So oil was escaping passed the gasket and out the side of the engine. I love how we stuck our necks out to disassemble a freshly rebuilt engine, by this supposedly upstanding operation, and hand then conclusive evidence of a mess up, and they cannot take any blame. No further discussion, just flat out denial. I was in disbelief they wanted to screw us so blatantly and play dumb that that could not be the leak. We needed to take care of our client, since Yota 1 obviously was not going to take of us. So we had the head machined and reassembled with new gaskets, and what do you know! No more leak! Thank you for your response. This will be the last thing that I will say because there is no sense on going back and forth. You stated, "If he had done his part the heat tabs would be intact." It puzzles me because my temperature gauge never went up high; it was always normal. My instructions from your shop were to have the Mikuni carburetors tuned (the very same carburetor that was recommended by your shop) and to also change the break-in oil after 500 miles. I did not know from the beginning that your shop does not know how to tune Mikuni carburetors and so I don't know why you would recommend something your shop does not know how to work on. Your shop had my truck for 9 months and then you tell me to have my carburetor tuned somewhere else because your employees don't know how to tune it. Keep in mind your shop installed the carburetor. Did you really expect me to leave my truck in your shop for another 9 months to figure out how to tune a carburetor? I did not even have a chance to change the break-in oil because the instruction was after 500 miles. My truck had less than 300 miles since it came out of the shop. You're accusing me of not doing your job as a performance shop by not tuning the carburetor that you installed and therefore it caused the following problems: * Bad Eagle Rods. * Bent Crank. * Incorrect block clearances. * Incorrect main clearances. * Bolts were loose inside the motor. * I paid for a performance cylinder head, and it was not. * Stock spring retainers used. Again, you state that because I did not do your job by tuning the carburetor that you installed it caused all the things I listed above. I will have the complete list and just make the various State agencies figure it out. I have had 22Rs since 1986 but I have no time to work on it and so I thought that I would bring it to a reputable shop. I saw a few negative comments but thought it might have been an anomaly, which now I regret. I never would have thought being a "performance" shop that you would not know to tune a Mikuni carburetor. I also did not know that being a performance shop you would NOT dyno the motor and test that it works properly. You are correct in letting the readers decide, but pictures are worth a lot more. Nothing else to justify on why I am not made whole for an inferior build. This is the last response because your explanation just makes your YOTA 1 shop look really bad and makes me more regret not doing my due diligence on finding a reputable shop. read more

Took my Son's 2001 Toyota Sequoia in for a Check engine light and loss of engine power. They were able to find the issue right away with the throttle body. 3 days was all it took and his vehicle runs like a champ. Still some minors things that need to be done but all in time. Best customer service I have experienced in a very long time! My original transmission on my 1986 4Runner was having severe issues and I called them asking about they're rebuilt transmissions and they helped me a ton! They told me the price, what else it came with (transfer case gasket, shifter gasket), the warranty on it and what the estimate time of build was. They beat the time line by 2 weeks and they called me a couple of times to remind me that my transmission was ready and I can pickup whenever I'm ready. Nick Redenbaugh is incredibly unprofessional and does not stand behind his work. I had him build me a 2.7l engine and ship it to New Jersey from California. They did not seal the timing cover properly and it poured motor oil out of it, upon sending nick proof of this he would not cover any labor that i had to pay to have it repaired, along with the fact he told me to inject loctite 518 into a zero clearance type seal. read more

Ordered an engine. 6 month wait was okay with me. at 4.5 months, figured they'd be contacting me, just to do a little customer relationship buffing. Nope. i contacted them: got a passive-aggressive rep who sounded very entitled and full of herself; someone's daughter working for Daddy i' guessing. Anyway, re-computed the costs and decided to cancel my order. They charged me a never-before declared fee for doing so. I'm po-ed. I purchased a rebuilt W56 5sp transmission from these guys; the price was competitive and I received excellent service from both Nick, the owner, and Shelby, the tech who assisted me. After installing it, I couldn't shift into 1st or 2nd, so I called them up and they had me bring the truck in anytime. Shelby pulled the transmission and found it was fine (he showed me on the bench that it was). He said don't worry and continued to work after their usual closing hours to help me and soon narrowed the problem down to my worn/bent top plate. He replaced it and my new transmission works great! I hadn't originally paid for labor (installed it myself the first time), but they had no problem getting me running at no additional cost. Rather than shopping around only for the cheapest price, it's best to find a shop where they take pride in their work and stand behind their products. I bought a 95 4runner I called the red curse. I bought it with a bad motor and took on the task of reinstalling a remanufactured motor myself. Much to my dismay, the 3vze was not running properly after installation and I could not get down to the root of the problem. This shop is fantastic, i broke timing chain on my 91 runner and got it towed there, Nick (owner) ran me down the different kinds of motors they build for the re22 in full detail. I end up having them swap motor for their stage 2 motor. During the assembly of new motor they found a couple things wrong with my old motor, he called and pointed them out and i had them swap it. These guys are real genuine to what kind of job they do, there is no "beating around the bush" . They motor runs flawless and they went over and beyond from what they originally were going to do. Nice people but hacks for mechanic's, Nothing but problems w/ my engine from bolts missing from engine mounts to transmission and oil leaks to a engine that feels like a it has 60% loss of power . 7 trips later back and forth I gave up, I still got a Toyota with non stop engine issues. 8500 miles still leaking oil and just blew the head gasket. read more
