Yotel, Motel, Holiday Inn, Hip hop hippty hop..when one misses their flight there are options. You can sleep inside the airport like the movie "terminal", you can leave the airport and get accomidations outside, or ; get a yotel. At first i was like a "yo, what?" Then my sister introduced our family to this option. Basically, its a room and shower :rest area inside the airport where one can rest and clean up when waiting for delayed flights, cancelled flights. Or whatever without leaving the physical airport. This was a great alternative. No more needing to find a shuttle, or stressing to get back into the airport, the traffic. I hate traffic. Easy peasy, and just have to go through security and you are right at your gate. Pros: convenience, location, proximity to flight/gate incase your flight is early. Cons: an idiot was smoking when wr arrived and i was having major asthma attacks. I felt like i was dying. It was a major no no! Luckily, they went from room to room and found the culprit who was chain smoking. I literally wanted to choke the guy. Im glad we were able to find this alternative thanks to my sis. The entire plane filled with 300+ passengers were scrambling. We were lucky. Cons: if your luggage doesn't reach your destination, you have the airport that has Victoria's secrets and other options for toiletries , its just a hassle and the room is basic. My tv was broken, remote wouldn't work, and the shower was a bit questionable because water was venturing into places i was hoping it would not. For what it is, a quick-sleep hotel in a public airport, Yotel is amazing. Make no mistake this is not a sleeping compartment or sleeping pod. It is a hotel room, bathroom en suite. Tiny, but private. Clean and quiet. I generally have high expectations, loved it and would certainly stay again. As many people lay over in Amsterdam, these tiny rooms make a lot of sense if you don't want to hotel downtown for the night. Yotel is well-kept, comfortable and with a little white noise splendid and convenient sleeping before the next departure. This is not five star, five diamond luxury but it serves its purpose well. For what it is, it gets a five star rating. Otherwise, it has more of what you might call scaled down four-star trappings. The beds do recline flat and once horizontal, voila! You're on your way to slumber before zipping off to other corners of the world. McDonald's is a quick walk, but does have operating hours. Be sure to get your order in before closing or you could go to bed hungry. As for someone who wrote that they could not find Yotel, it's easy to reach. If I may offer a little unsolicited advice though: it's always good to brush up on spatial sense. read more

We had a long layover in Amsterdam in route to Dubai so we decided to try something new - getting a hotel room at the airport. Options for booking included overnight or in hours long blocks. Yotel was conveniently located plane side, a short walk from our arrival and departure gates. It was a little challenging to find, but it was upstairs next to the McDonald's and a small kids play area. The check in process was a little slow as apparently they were having some employee staffing issues. When I received the key to my room and went to unlock the door, I found that someone was already occupying the room. Thankfully, the key I had did not work to open the door. The front desk employee was very apologetic and gave me a different room. He also adjusted my check out time given the significant delay we had checking in. The room itself was small, but very functional. It had a motorized daybed that serves as both a sitting area and flatbed. It might've been all the travel we had had but I thought the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was small, but included all the necessities, including a shower. There was also a small tv in the room that we didn't turn on. The room we had could've benefited from a little bit of maintenance and upkeep, but overall, for a brief stay, and a place to get a little bit of rest in between flights, this was a great idea. read more

The mattress and pillows were fine. The room is very poorly lit, I could not see to put on makeup, to find things in my suitcase, I had to throw it onto the bed to see clearly. The bathroom a bit odd since every once in a while you could hear a loud suction noise coming from the drain! Our bed did not move and so we could not access the work table or use the chair, which was unfortunate since we were on a business trip. We called the front desk to ask and she said it was the electricity (??) meaning what? The bed was broken? All the beds are broken? Our electricity Also the charging area is very narrow and if you cannot pull up the table then you cannot charge anything larger than a cell phone. We were unable to charge our computers during our stay in the Yotel. The underbed area was absolute YUK- dust and food stains, so did not use it for our luggage storage. Woot! Ok, small cabin rooms...think like a big coffin motel. Stay in the airport inside security. Got a layover? Wake up late, shower and walk to your gate. Cheaper than the surrounding Airport hotels to boot. They have some crappy food and drinks available 24/7...which is good bc the airport tends to slow down past 9 pm. So they have two 'cabin' sizes...basically single or double bed. Disappointingly, it's not perfectly quiet. You can (and will) hear the staff walking in the hallways in the middle of the night or the neighboring cabin slide open its bathroom door. That said, it's a small price to pay for not having to go through security again except if you're flying back to the USA, you'll have to queue for a gate side screening, somewhat self defeating. read more

We found your hotel while we were walking around the airport during our outbound flight while waiting for our connection. We already had a booking at another hotel outside the airport but we were impressed with the convenience of staying inside the airport/air side which will save us a lot of time from having to go thru immigration, customs and security. We decided to cancel our existing reservation for the other hotel and booked with Yotelair. We were impressed too at how easy it was to choose the timing of our stay and that the rates were hourly. Based on our experience, we will consider booking with Yotelair again on our future flights. Kudos and more power! read more

I booked their smallest cabin for 4 hours during a layover in AMS. Check-in was a bit tedious but they just re-opened so computers are limited (no self-service kiosk check-in). I was able to sleep for 3+ hours and had everything I needed. Noise was not an issue although the plumbing does 'gurgle' sounds into the shower drain (just sounds, no water). Everything was very clean and in good working order. There were 2 pillows and a nice comforter on the bed. I didn't use the shower but soap and towels were provided in the bathroom. If you need a few hours sleep in a quiet, horizontal, comfortable place this is well worth the 50 euros (4 hrs). --------- Update: I liked the convenience of the Yotel SO much that I stayed overnight during my return trip and overnight layover in AMS. This time I booked the deluxe cabin which had more room. Total for 8.5 hours was ~$110. The Yotel just reopened October 5, 2015 and I asked the receptionist about the renovations. She told me that while there was terminal construction at AMS (in 2015) the Yotel was refurbished. Thus, some of the bad things you read from reviews prior to 2015 have 'mostly' been addressed. This means new mattresses, carpet, paint, TVs, etc. A few key tips if you book a stay at the Yotel: 1. Quarters are small but efficient- if you have more than 1 person & luggage, don't try to stuff yourselves into the basic room. I saw a Couple trying to fit themselves + 2 roll aboard suitcases and a backpack into a basic room... The wife looked pissed! Book the deluxe cabin if you have a mate. 2. Noise- there is some ambient noise from the hallway, plumbing, other guests, etc. Bring some ear plugs to keep from being disturbed. 3. Toiletries - while general purpose body wash is provided with towels in the bathroom, you'll feel better if you have some of your normal personal items (toothbrush + paste, shampoo, etc). I don't believe I saw a hairdryer, either. Enjoy! This place will save you time compared to other hotels in the area, so take advantage and get some rest. The best part of this hotel is that it's with-in the secured area of AMS, upstairs next to the McDonalds. This means no time wasted with back-and-forth through the airport security checkpoints. read more

Yay for Yotel! I felt like I was sleeping on a space ship, and if sleeping can be fun, you'll have fun sleeping here. Also, it keeps you insulated from the hustle and bustle of the airport. I don't plan on being in Amsterdam again, at least no time soon, but Yotel made the wait for a flight bearable, and I would recommend for those silly enough to fly standby or needing some rest on a layover. read more

I can't sleep on planes, so this little pod hotel helped me get a few hours of sleep between flights. The beds are super comfortable and the room gets really dark. Plus there's a toilet, shower and free wifi. Yotel is inside the security zone so you don't have to leave the airport and check in again. If I have one word for Yotel, it's GRATEFUL. read more

Yotel warned me a couple days before my stay that there would be construction in the airport the night of my stay and offered to let me cancel. Several years ago I had booked the same Yotel at Schiphol and they also had construction going on. That time they rebooked me at no additional charge at another hotel within the airport. They said they couldn't do that this time, and I had already made my plans and figured the noise wouldn't be so bad that I couldn't sleep so I kept the reservation. When I checked in, I asked if they would upgrade me to a premium room because of the construction; they said all those rooms were booked, tho I could see that most were empty that night and in the morning (the door to each room has a big window). They just offered me earplugs. The noise was like a jackhammer above my head all night, from 10pm to 4am. Also, their instructions say you can bring only carry-on luggage, but they didn't mention that the airlines won't let you check your bag the night before for a morning flight. Instead you have to take it to a luggage holding area in the bottom of the airport, pay 9 euros to store it and go back and forth through security the next morning to retrieve it, which took 45 minutes. read more

How long do you have to wait after a long flight to take a shower? I wanted to take a shower right away! It was a pleasure to use a shower at the Yotel that is located right in Schiphol airport, in Amsterdam. I think it is very convenient, cause Yotel is located right inside terminal building on level 2 near gate D. I paid 15 euros, around 20 dollars, and got the private room for 45 minutes with a shower, a sink, and a toilet. Towels, floor mat, shower gel and hair dryer were also available. Of course, there are free showers in the airport, but I wouldn't recommend using them. Youtel helped me feel much better. I suggest taking a shower over there.Clean and refreshed, I started my trip to Amsterdam. But this will be another review. read more

I had adjusted my expectations downward since this is a pod-style hotel. Staff were very nice. The room was cute and well organized. Everything seemed to work. But the temperature controls seem to be locked in a very tight range. Too warm for me. Also the room smelled a bit moldy. Lastly the lighting is too dim. read more

I had horrendous flight delays and ended up staying at Schiphol airport in Amsterdam for 9 hours. I was having a horrible day and I needed sleep. I finally found Yotel in lounge 2 of the airport and it truly brightened my awful day! The check-in staff were incredibly friendly (especially Joy!) and the tiny capsule room was perfect for an airport nap and shower. If you have a few hours and would like to be comfortable book this place! I had 12-hour layover so I decided to stay at the Yotel. The rooms are VERY small but that's the whole idea, you almost feel like this is how a first class cabin on an airplane would be like (just not as fancy). The bed was very comfortable, having a shower can get a little messy but for the short period, you are there it's great. Service is amazing. The only complaint is that since there are check ins and check outs at all hours and the walls are quite thin you can hear everything quite well, also whenever someone next to your room used the shower you hear the water flowing so I would recommend earplugs for people who are sensitive to sound. This place is a dump. Yes, it does provide a bed to sleep on and a restroom of your own. Yes, it has a TV. Yes, it's claustrophobic. Yes, it's disgustingly unhygienic. Yes, all the fabric is torn. Yes, the electrical movements are loud and jagged. No, you shouldn't stay here. On top of all that you pay a lot for the "privilege" to stay there. It's just like a Motel6, except more claustrophobic and less hygienic. I'm a Skyteam Elite+ so I always have KLM Crown Room access. It's much better than the Yotel for sleeping and relaxing, but I can't speak for the shower facilities. For many though they don't have that option and that is why, next time I'm in Amsterdam I'll check out the Mercure Hotel inside the non-Schengen area and write a review. read more

I booked the smallest cabin for 4.5 hours. At 7.30 am, check-in was smooth. It is best to think of the cabin as a lie-flat business class seat with an attached bathroom, but minimal food service and no windows. It worked well for me. Note that if you take a shower, the bathroom will be wet, so make this the last thing you plan to do there. There are indeed gurgling sounds from the plumbing. But, there was no external noise. I did not watch TV. The wi-fi was fine. The food-court outside is well-lit and reasonably priced for a European airport. I was at AMS between two economy flights (Africa-AMS, and AMS-USA, so the rest was worth the cost of 55 Euros. Note that if you pay by debit card, the cost is a bit lower. I take one staff off because there is a drop-down table, but no chair to sit on! read more

Yes, it may be good for the travelers who need just few hours of sleep and it's convenient since you don't need top go thru security again. It also is cheaper than the other options, but spending 40-100 euros more will be worth it. If I had to spend again a night in Amsterdam I would pick the other hotels, or even take a train 20 min to downtown and walk to the other hotels. Here is why: 1. the check - in was NOT easy: it is not automated, the girls at the front desk are a bit slow. 2. the small cabin just gets you sooo annoyed. 3. try to really get the promised "free" 24/7 hot drinks: you need top leave your room, go to the front desk and ask them to make it. Really inconvenient particularly if they have a line of people to check in. Once the coffee machine was not working so they send me to the nearby coffee stand and did not offer to pay for it, like any good biz would. 4. one of the front desks people promised to print something for me. She forgot and left the work. 5. if you are closer to the exit people who leave for earlier flights will wake you up, talking loudly. 5. If you are traveling as a couple forget about flushing a toilet at night without waking up the other person. It is exactly as loud as on an airplane. 6. the hallway is grey and depressing 7. They had construction noise and no earplugs to offer - when I asked for them at the front desk The idea is awesome. The execution needs refinement. read more

Ok, maybe I'm spoiled but this has to be the best thing available for any long winded travel. If you're on a 30 hour door to door journey nothing can be better than a quick four hour snooze in an actual bed, with an actual shower, a clean bathroom and wi-fi to keep updated. Located right in the terminal at the food court you just pay at the machine, choose how many hours you want and go rest and relax. It is quite small but how much space do you need to sleep? I clock in at over 250lbs and fit in more than comfortably. Never felt more refreshed halfway through a long journey read more

The room itself is fine. However the service was terrible. I had booked the room for 4 hours, all prepaid etc. However, when I showed up at the start of my time, there were several people in queue, and the person at the front desk was really slow. 20 minutes of the time I could have spent sleeping - lost right there. When i went to the room, it was still being cleaned and not available. I had to go back to the front desk to ask for another room. They gave me another room, the only one available where somebody had smoked and they couldnt get rid of the smell. By then I was just on the edge, feeling how my precious sleep minutes are ticking away. Lost 35 minutes from my 4 hours. and had to sleep in a smelly room. I would recommend an automated check in for people who have already paid. Just have a way to pick up room key and avoid the queue. Of course, they didn't reimburse me for my lost time. read more
