We discussed options frankly and discussed what was possible under my budgetary capabilities, and came up with a plan whereby I would address the employer proposing a rehire (since my manager and I were very close) and if that was denied from the company organs, who had bungled, then I would take "the other step." I appreciate the willingness to do that, because it is the moral and ethical way to go. Sometimes lawyers get a reputation for merely being "sharks" but this is not always fair. Used correctly and with conscience and with all reasonable steps taken first under advice, they can be an invaluable resource.
